• How does 37signals job preview functionality work?

  Hi all, I'm interested in getting a preview functionality working similar to how the 37signals job site does: http://jobs.37signals.com. Below are some screen shots of how it works. Step 1. Create your ad http://cl.ly/dfc4761b015c7f43c8ab (URL /jobs/new) Step 2. Preview your ad http://cl.ly/9c4b4041cfea83d8569e (URL /jobs/new/preview) Step 3. Publish your ad http://cl.ly/a58284d90fd380d2c26b (URL /listings/new/purchase?token=5198) So assuming you have Post model where Step 1 usually takes place in the new/create view/actions, how should one continue to Step 2 Preview and then after previewing, proceeding to the Step 3 publishing the post/ad? Do they actually save the ad/post in the database before continuing to Step 2 (Preview) but set a flag (like a boolean field called preview set to true)? It looks like they set a token paramater but I'm not sure what it's used for) I'm interested in this because it seems to go against the CRUD/REST and I thought it would be good to know how it worked.   Hi, Im loading an entity 'Member' from its id in route data. [ListItemsForMembershipType(true)] public ActionResult Edit(Member someMember) {...} The attribute on the action loads the membership type list items for a dropdown box and sticks it in viewdata. This is fine for add forms, and search forms (it gets all active items) but I need the attribute to execute BASED ON THE VALUE someMember.MembershipTypeId, because its current value must always be present when loading the item (i.e. all active items, plus the one from the loaded record). So the question is, what is the standard pattern for this? How can my attribute accept the value or should I be loading the viewdata for the drop down in a controller supertype or during model binding or something else? It is in an attribute now because the code to set the viewdata would otherwise be duplicated in each usage in each action.

  Hay guys, I'm writing a simple app which logs recipes. I'm working out my models and have stumbled across a problem My Dish models needs to have many Ingredients. This is no problem because i would do something like this ingredients = models.ManyToManyfield(Ingredient) No problems, my dish now can have many ingrendients. However, the problem is that the ingredient needs to come in different quantities. I.E 4 eggs, 7 tablespoons sugar My Ingredient Model is very simple at the moment class Ingredient(models.Model): name = models.TextField(blank=False) slug = models.SlugField(blank=True) How would i go about work out this problem? What fields would i need to add, would i need to use a 'through' attribute on my ManyToManyfield to solve this problem?

• A question about Drupal Node and Views

  I have created an "Add Question" content-type node which lets users ask questions. The questions have a title, image attachment option, and the content. I am showing the questions which have image as a block by filtering it as "Content: Photofield - list True" in Views. This way, only the questions which have images attached to the question appear in this block. Photofield by the way is the content type. I want to create a new block which only shows the questions which have no attached image. I have done filtering this block view by keeping filters as "Content: Photofield - list False" but in vain. There's also some expose option and I did some messing around with it too without coming to the result I want. Can anyone help?

• [Ruby] How can I randomly iterate through a large Range?

  I would like to randomly iterate through a range. Each value will be visited only once and all values will eventually be visited. For example: (0..9).sort_by{rand}.map{|x| f(x)} where f(x) is some function that operates on each value. A Fisher-Yates shuffle could be used to increase efficiency, but this code is sufficient for many purposes. My problem is that sort_by will transform the range into an array, which is not cool because I am working with astronomically large numbers. Ruby will quickly consume a large amount of RAM trying to create a monstrous array. This is also why the following code will not work: tried = {} # store previous attempts bigint = 99**99 bigint.times { x = rand(bigint) redo if tried[x] tried[x] = true f(x) # some function } This code is very naive and quickly runs out of memory as tried obtains more entries. What sort of algorithm can accomplish what I am trying to do?

• Should I continue using R v2.8.1 ?

  I've been using R v2.8.1 for a long time. Normally I would upgrade it to the latest version but something keeps me away from the builds later than 2.8.1: I use read.table(file=file.choose(),header=TRUE) frequently in my libraries. After upgrading to 2.9.0, R started not to remember the latest directory used while selecting file. I downgraded to 2.8.1 and now R can remember again the last directory used. I don't know why they changed that behavior in this direction but this is absolutely crucial for me. It wastes my time in v2.9.0 every time I try to find a specific directory when R cannot remember it. Now R 2.10.1 is released. I don't know if they have corrected this issue. Should I upgrade or is it just enough to continue using v2.8.1? Will I miss something if I stick at 2.8.1?

• Clicking MDI children form doesn't bring it to front

  This is a winform question in .net. In a MDI form, if I open several children forms, for some forms, if they are not activated (if you overlap them with the activate one, they are not up to front. Only the activate form is up to front.), clicking them don't bring them to front. This is even true if I click controls on them, such as a textbox. The textbox gets focus and you can intput things, but that form is still not activated. Interestingly enough, this is not the case for all the children forms I created. Some forms behave correctly but others don't. Did I do something wrong? I think the correct behavior is that, everytime I click a form, bring it up to front. Thank you for any suggestion.

• Trouble compiling some decompiled C# code

  I was decompiling an open-source project (because the source for the latest version hasn't been released yet). Using RedGate's Reflector tool, it gave me this block of code: if(somecondition == true) { ref Vector3i vectoriRef; float num17 = length - num; Vector3i end = vectori3; (vectoriRef = (Vector3i) &end)[1] = vectoriRef[1] - ((int) num17); } somecondition is a boolean. length and num are floats defined outside the code. vectori3 is also defined outside the code and is of type Vector3i. The type Vector3i is essentially this code, but with x, y, and z stored as integers. When I try to compile this decompiled code, I get the following errors: Line 2: Only assignment, call, increment, decrement, and new object expressions can be used as a statement Line 3: ; expected Line 3: Invalid expression term 'ref' Line 6: 'Vector3i' is a 'type' but is used like a 'variable' Any thoughts on how I can fix this code so it compiles correctly and does whatever it was intended to do?

  I am working on rewriting my unexpected error handling process, and I would like to ask the community: What information do you capture both automatic, and manually, when software you have written crashes? Right now, I capture a few items, some of which are: Automatic: Name of app that crashed Version of app that crashed Stack trace Operating System version RAM used by the application Number of processors Screen shot: (Only on non-public applications) User name and contact information (from Active Directory) Manual: What context is the user in (i.e.: what company, tech support call number, RA number, etc...) When did the user expect to happen? (Typical response: "Not to crash”) Steps to reproduce. What other bits of information do you capture that helps you discover the true cause of an applications problem, especially given that most users simply mash the keyboard when asked to tell you what happened. For the record I’m using C#, WPF and .NET version 4, but I don’t necessarily want to limit myself to those. But having variables with names like "inputStream0" and "inputStream1" is an antipattern too, so for this code I'm working on, anonymous code blocks would be helpful.

Accordion.setActiveItem outputs: "setActiveItem" is not a function in a browser's error window. Second issue is that hideCollapseTool property, when set to true in the initialisation, doesn't do anything. Collapse tools still are being displayed. I am using ExtJS 3.1.1.   I know that if I have a block of code I don't want compiled when in release mode I can wrap that code block in: #if DEBUG while(true) { Console.WriteLine("StackOverflow rules"); } #endif This will keep this code block from compiling in any mode other than DEBUG. I know there is an attribute that can be placed on an entire method that will do that same, but for the life of me I can't remember what that attribute is. I believe that it’s down the System.Diagnostics namespace, but I'm not really sure. BTW: I'm using .NET 4, but I know this attribute existed in .NET 2 because I have used in in old projects. Thanks

After server restart - one record have new date and others have the same as first after restart. It's look like some data cache is using but I can't found where. database: mysql 5.1.25 django v1.1.1

  Having looked into How can I make a JQuery UI Dialog automatically grow or shrink to fit its contents?, I am using the height: "auto" option when building a jQuery modal dialog box: $( "#dialog-message" ).dialog({ autoOpen: false, width: "400", height: "auto", show: "slide", modal: true, buttons: { Ok: function() { $( this ).dialog( "close" ); } } }); However, the height isn't "growing" to fit all of the contents. I'm still seeing a vertical scrollbar as in this image: Is there a way right in the definition code I listed to ensure that the height grows enough so that a vertical scrollbar doesn't show? Or, do I need to do this programmatically before opening the dialog box? Edit 1 Not sure why, but Chrome is displaying this fine but IE 8 isn't. I need it to specifically work in IE 8 so I believe I'm just going to put a bottom margin on the text.
