• Is it OK to mixed NumberLong and normal integers in the same field in MongoDB?

  I have been using Morphia to persistent objects from Java. I have also been running some batch processes from the console. I just realised that some values are now stored as NumberLong and number as plain Javascript numbers. I have an index on this field. Everything seems to be ok, but if I query: {f: 100} from the console it still returns the object even if it actually contains {f: NumberLong(100)} Is this true of all the drivers? It is best practice to avoid NumberLong is I can fit the value inside 32-bit? Will I save a lot of data and index space if I convert all NumberLongs to basic numbers?

• Django - Empty session data in ajax requests

  Hi guys, I have an ajax view where I want to set a session variable like such: def upload(request, *args, **kwargs): request.session['test'] = 'test' request.session.modified = True print request.session.items() I have another normal view something like this: def advertise(request): print request.session.items() I get these two strings printed to shell: [('test', 'test')] [('_auth_user_backend', 'django.contrib.auth.backends.ModelBackend'), ('_auth_user_id', 26L)] Why is the session data that I set in the ajax view not passing to my regular views? If I set session data in regular view, everything works as fine, but it seems that ajax requests contain empty session data? Anybody dealt with something like this before? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A 24-bit display, of course, uses 24 bits, or 3 bytes per pixel, for color information. This gives 1 byte, or 256 distinct values each, for red, green, and blue. This is generally called true color, because 256^3 (16.7 million) He says 1 byte is equal to 256 distinct values. 1 byte = 8 bits. 8^2 bits = 64 distinct colors right ?? It's not adding up right to me. I know it might be something simple to understand, but I don't understand.

  Hi, I have a class with a set of properties As given below. class ContactInfo { [ReadOnly(true)] [Category("Contact Info")] public string Mobile { get; set; } [Category("Contact Info")] public string Name{ get; set; } } The objects of this class is being assigned to a property grid, so that the users can update an existing contact. you can see that Mobile is marked as ReadOnly. But, when I want to add an entirely new Contact, I would want the users to be able to edit the contact Mobile also. For that I need to remove the Readonly property dynamically from the Type, before assigning the object to the property grid. Is it possible?

  I know that peripheral devices such as a hard driver, a floppy driver, etc are controlled by reading/writing certain control registers on their device controllers. I am wondering about the following questions: Is it true that when these peripheral devices are plugged onto the computer, the addresses(port numbers) of their control registers are thus determined by how they are attached to the address bus (i.e. the hard-wiring rules, not any soft things)? Who makes the scheme of the port number assignment? If I was given a naked computer(with no operating system and with many peripheral devices), how could I figure out the port number assignment so I can use them to control peripheral deveices.   There are a lot of settings that can be used in H2 database. AUTO_SERVER, MVCC, LOCK_MODE, FILE_LOCK and MULTI_THREADED. I wonder what combination works best for high concurrency setup e.g. one thread is doing INSERTs and another connection does some UPDATEs and SELECTs? I tried MVCC=TRUE;LOCK_MODE=3lFILE_LOCK=NO but whenever I do some UPDATEs in one connection, the other connection does not see it even though I commit it. By the way the connections are from different processes e.g. separate program.

I've loaded an object 20px by 20px and when I do a collision check I have to use x/y position which is top left in Java2D. How can I do collision detection based on the entire object? • Does lookaround affect which languages can be matched by regular expressions?

  There are some features in modern regex engines which allow you to match languages that couldn't be matched without that feature. For example the following regex using back references matches the language of all strings that consist of a word that repeats itself: (.+)\1. This language is not regular and can't be matched by a regex, which does not use back references. My question: Does lookaround also affect which languages can be matched by a regular expression? I.e. are there any languages that can be matched using lookaround, which couldn't be matched otherwise? If so, is this true for all flavors of lookaround (negative or positive lookahead or lookbehind) or just for some of them?

  I am using N-Hibernate and have a class/table called Boxers I also have a prospect table which tells use if the boxer is a prospect. (this table is one column of just the boxersID) So i Want to get all boxers that are prospects (meaning all boxers that have there id in the prospects table) Public static IQueryable<Boxer> IsProspect(this IQueryable<Boxer> query) { return query.Where(x => x.Prospect != null); } this doesnt trim down my list of boxers to the boxers that are prospect... yet if i debug and look at any boxer it will have True or false next to each one correctly... Why isnt the where clause correctly trimming down the list?

• How to deal with the new line character in the Silverlight TextBox

  When using a multi-line TextBox (AcceptsReturn="True") in Silverlight, line feeds are recorded as \r rather than \r\n. This is causing problems when the data is persisted and later exported to another format to be read by a Windows application. I was thinking of using a regular expression to replace any single \r characters with a \r\n, but I suck at regex's and couldn't get it to work. Because there may be a mixture of line endings just blindy replacing all \r with \r\n doesn't cut it. So two questions really... If regex is the way to go what's the correct pattern? Is there a way to get Silverlight to respect it's own Environment.NewLine character in TextBox's and have it insert \r\n rather just a single \r?

• Tomcat startup fails with not a valid identifier

  I have tomcat 6.0.18 running on one server without a problem. With the exact same settings it fails to launch on my colleague's machine. He's even running from the same folder as me (I've stopped my copy while he tries to make it work) All we get when we fire off tomcat using bin/startup.sh is this: CATALINA_OPTS=-server -Xms768m -XX:+UseParallelGC -Xmx768m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:PermSize=128m -Djava.awt.headless=true: is not an identifier I had that definition in setenv.sh and moved it into startup.sh - same problem. Any suggestions? My brief look on google seem to indicate multiple IP address issues, but my server has two ethernet cards, and two IP addresses. Thanks.
