• Lucene: Fastest way to return the document occurance of a phrase?

  Hi Guys, I am trying to use Lucene (actually PyLucene!) to find out how many documents contain my exact phrase. My code currently looks like this... but it runs rather slow.   Hello guys ! I'am trying to retrieve an parameter passed in a url using the zend framework. But of course, it is not working ! My code looks like this : Generating the url : <?php echo $this->url(array('controller' => 'poll', 'action' => 'showresults', 'poll_id' => $poll['_id']), null, true) ?> Retrieving the "poll_id" parameter in showresultsAction() : $request = new Zend_Controller_Request_Http(); $poll_id = $request->getParam('poll_id'); The problem is that $poll_id is NULL. When I do a var_dump of $request-getParams(), it is also NULL. I have glanced trough the Zend Framework doc, but it was not very usefull. Any idea ? Thanks !

• Is there a linear-time performance guarantee with using an Iterator?

  If all that you're doing is a simple one-pass iteration (i.e. only hasNext() and next(), no remove()), are you guaranteed linear time performance and/or amortized constant cost per operation? Is this specified in the Iterator contract anywhere? Are there data structures/Java Collection which cannot be iterated in linear time? java.util.Scanner implements Iterator<String>. A Scanner is hardly a data structure (e.g. remove() makes absolutely no sense). Is this considered a design blunder? Is something like PrimeGenerator implements Iterator<Integer> considered bad design, or is this exactly what Iterator is for? (hasNext() always returns true, next() computes the next number on demand, remove() makes no sense). Similarly, would it have made sense for java.util.Random implements Iterator<Double>?

  I have an application which second thread calls GetMessage() in a loop. At some point the first thread realizes that the user wants to quit the application and notifies the second thread that he should terminate. As the first thread is stuck on GetMessage(), the program never quits. Is there a way to wait for messages with a timeout? I’m open to other ideas too. EDIT: (additional explanations) The second thread runs that snippet of code: while ( !m_quit && GetMessage( &msg, NULL, 0, 0 ) ) { TranslateMessage( &msg ); DispatchMessage( &msg ); } The first thread sets m_quit to true.

• Android - Issue with View when set above another View while scrolling

  I've created a ScrollView with a RelativeLayout inside of it. I have a TextView aligned at the bottom of the RelativeLayout using layout_alignParentBottom="true" and a ImageView above the TextView using "layout_above". The layout works perfect when I am on a device where the display is large enough to not have to scroll up and down. When I test it on devices where you need to scroll to see the ImageView and TextView the ImageView doesn't line up above the TextView. Actually I haven't a clue where it goes because I can't see it anywhere. It might be behind the TextView. This also happens when I'm editing an EditText with the Soft Keyboard up, which causes the RelativeLayout to scroll. Anyone knows what's going on here?

• Catching KeyboardInterrupt when working with PyGame

  I have written a small Python application where I use PyGame for displaying some simple graphics. I have a somewhat simple PyGame loop going in the base of my application, like so: stopEvent = Event() # Just imagine that this eventually sets the stopEvent # as soon as the program is finished with its task. disp = SortDisplay(algorithm, stopEvent) def update(): """ Update loop; updates the screen every few seconds. """ while True: stopEvent.wait(options.delay) disp.update() if stopEvent.isSet(): break disp.step() t = Thread(target=update) t.start() while not stopEvent.isSet(): for event in pygame.event.get(): if event.type == pygame.QUIT: stopEvent.set() It works all fine and dandy for the normal program termination; if the PyGame window gets closed, the application closes; if the application finishes its task, the application closes. The trouble I'm having is, if I Ctrl-C in the Python console, the application throws a KeyboardInterrupt, but keeps on running. The question would therefore be: What have I done wrong in my update loop, and how do I rectify it so a KeyboardInterrupt causes the application to terminate?

  Hello, So I downloaded the latest version of zChaff (2007), and was trying out some very simple SAT problems. But zChaff does not output the solution (variable assignments). A very simple example input: p cnf 2 2 1 2 0 1 -2 0 And what I get: c 2 Clauses are true, Verify Solution successful. Instance Satisfiable 1 -2 Random Seed Used 0 Max Decision Level 1 Num. of Decisions 2 ( Stack + Vsids + Shrinking Decisions ) 0 + 1 + 0 Original Num Variables 2 Original Num Clauses 2 Original Num Literals 4 Added Conflict Clauses 0 Num of Shrinkings 0 Deleted Conflict Clauses 0 Deleted Clauses 0 Added Conflict Literals 0 Deleted (Total) Literals 0 Number of Implication 2 Total Run Time 5.1e-05 RESULT: SAT I can see the 1 -2 on the left of "Random Seed Used", but shouldn't this be outputing the variable assignments as "v ..." ? I'm still seeing a vertical scrollbar as in this image: Is there a way right in the definition code I listed to ensure that the height grows enough so that a vertical scrollbar doesn't show? Or, do I need to do this programmatically before opening the dialog box? Edit 1 Not sure why, but Chrome is displaying this fine but IE 8 isn't. I need it to specifically work in IE 8 so I believe I'm just going to put a bottom margin on the text.

  As of last night, I decided to start learning about WPF and have been reading through a number of online tutorials and books. This is a huge shift. One feature that has fascinated me is the implicit property value inheritance. I know in the WinForms world, if a control is not visible then neither are any of the child controls. Same seems to be true in the WPF world, as expected. I wondered if explicitly setting the child control's Visibility property would allow for an invisible parent and visible child and it did not. Is this something that would be possible in WPF? Can you have a container control that is hidden with visible children? This is more an exercise of curiosity than anything. I'm still trying to wrap my head around a lot of what I've been reading.

But, the problem occurs when I try to find the newly added script.   I have a loop which basically calls this every few seconds (after the timeout): while(true){ if(finished) return; switch(select(FD_SETSIZE, &readfds, 0, 0, &tv)){ case SOCKET_ERROR : report bad stuff etc; return; default : break; } // do stuff with the incoming connection } So basically for every few seconds (which is specified by tv), it reactivates the listening. This is run on thread B (not a main thread). There are times when I want to end this acceptor loop immediately from thread A (main thread), but seems like I have to wait until the time interval finishes.. Is there a way to disrupt the select function from another thread so thread B can quit instantly?
