• How can I equalize the heights of text input fields?

  What is the best way to equalize the height of my <select..> elements and my <input type="text"..> elements? It's proving difficult because of differences in box-sizing models. Google Chrome's user agent stylesheet has this: select { -webkit-box-sizing: border-box; } ..whereas other text input fields use the content box model. Why the difference? Should I perhaps make all of my text-based input fields use the border-box model? BTW, I'm using standards-compliant mode (by using <!DOCTYPE html>).

  Does anyone have some idea as to how come questions posted here on SO are showing up so quickly on Google?. Sometimes questions submitted are appearing as the first 10 entries or so - on the first page within 30 minutes of submitting a question. Pray tell, what sort of magic is being wielded here? Anybody have some ideas, suggestions?. My first thought is that they have info in their sitemap that tells google robots to trawl every N minutes or so - is that whats going on? BTW, I am aware that simply instructing Googlebots to scan your site every N minutes will not work if you dont have quality information (that is constantly being updated on your site). I'd just like to know if there is something else that SO may be doing right (apart from the marvelous content of course)

  We had some content restructure recently and I'd like to put in some redirect rules into web.config so bookmarks to the old pages can get routed to their new locations/pages. I tried using this approach: <location path="~/product/productA.aspx"> <system.webServer> <httpRedirect enabled="true" destination="~/product/category/productA.aspx" exactDestination="false" childOnly="true" httpResponseStatus="Permanent" /> </system.webServer> </location> But all I'm getting when I go to "http://www.oursite.com/product/productA.aspx" is our http 404 page. Am I doing something wrong, or is the httpRedirect tag in web.config not supported in mono? worked, but not ideal for what we want to achieve. Thank you :)

• Linux - Create ftp account with read/write access to only 1 folder

  Hey guys.... I have never worked on linux and dont plan on working on it either - The only command I probably know is "ls" :) I am hosting my website on Eapps and use their cpanel to setup everything so never worked with linux. Now I have this one time case - where I need to provide access to a contractor to fix the CSS issues on my website. He basically needs FTP (read/write) access to certain folders. At a high level - this is my code structure /home/webadmin/example.com/html/images /css /js /login.php /facebook.php /home/webadmin/example.com/application/library /views /models /controllers /config /bootstrap.php /home/webadmin/example.com/cgi-bin I want the new user to be able to have access to only these folders /home/webadmin/example.com/html/js /home/webadmin/example.com/html/css /home/webadmin/example.com/application/views He should not be able to view even the content of other folders including files like bootstrap.php or login.php etc If any sys admins can help me set this account up - will really appreciate it.   I am trying to make an Android application which would try to recover deleted content from the SD Card. How feasible it is ? I have following method in mind: 1) Since, the files are not actually deleted, can I access the file system to see files which has been marked to be overwritten. 2) Or will I have do header/footer file carving ? Is it possible from the application layer of android ? I am concerned about files stored on contiguous sectors and not the fragmented once. I want to do a basic file retrieval. Please let me know some resources which I can use to make this application ?

• How to return an image in an HTTP response with CherryPy

  I have code which generates a Cairo ImageSurface, and I expose it like so: def preview(...): surface = cairo.ImageSurface(cairo.FORMAT_ARGB32, width, height) ... cherrypy.response.headers['Content-Type'] = "image/png" return surface.get_data() preview.exposed = True This doesn't work (browsers report that the image has errors). I've tested that surface.write_to_png('test.png') works, but I'm not sure what to dump the data into to return it. I'm guessing some file-like object? According to the pycairo documentation, get_data() returns a buffer. I've also now tried: tempf = os.tmpfile() surface.write_to_png(tempf) return tempf Also, is it better to create and hold this image in memory (like I'm trying to do) or write it to disk as a temp file and serve it from there? I only need the image once, then it can be discarded.

• SimpleModal bug when positioning HTML5 video

  I am trying to use simple modal to display a modal window containing a video. I'm using the HTML5 "video" tag to do this. Using JQuery and SimpleModal, I can get it working in Chrome and Firefox, but for some reason Safari fails to maintain the centered positioning of the modal dialog for the video. In other words, when you scroll up and down in the windows, the modal window stays in its place, but the video scrolls up and down with the rest of the content outside the window. I've put together a 29 line piece of HTML code that you can cut and paste to test. https://pastee.org/z5sw Anyone know what I can do to fix this? I've been trying for a few hours now and no combination of JQuery, SimpleModal, or CSS changes can seem to fix this. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

• HTTP vs FTP upload

  I am building a large website where members will be allowed to upload content (images, videos) up to 20MB of size (maybe a little less like 15MB, we haven't settled on a final upload limit yet but it will be somewhere between 10-25MB). My question is, should I go with HTTP or FTP upload in this case. Bear in mind that 80-90% of uploads will be smaller size like cca 1-3MB but from time to time some members will also want to upload large files (10MB+). Is HTTP uploading reliable enough for such large files or should I go with FTP? Is there a noticeable speed difference between HTTP and FTP while uploading files? I am asking because I'm using Zend Framework which already has HTTP adapter for file uploads, in case I choose FTP I would have to write my own adapter for it. Thanks!

  I want to understand event cycles. I have a form with a grid and textboxes. It has a grid, bound to DataTable, and textboxes bound to same table too. I'm trying to debug something and need to know how to identify ALL events fired in the form to see what may solve an issue for me. Anyhow, unless I explicitly subclass every class on my form, and override / attach to every event to my own event handlers, how can I get / listen to all events being fired during a certain action... Such as changing a "Selected" road in a DataGridView. It obviously updates its own "CurrentRow"... I need to know what / how to maybe FORCE a re-loading of SAME CurrentRow. Reason: during a form level "Edit Mode", and I change the content in another "Textbox" control, and reject changes, I need it to simulate the current "Record" is reloaded to go back to its original values.

• Displaying a DHTML layer over a Silverlight UI...

  I have a MOSS 2007 publishing site which incorporates some Silverlight components on various pages. Beyond a few areas the rest of the site is SharePoint and ASPX (i.e. standard HTML/javascript). I'm looking at incorporating a dynamic/dropdown menu to the main navigation. Unfortunately on a few of the pages the menu sits close to a Silverlight area and, when a menu is pulled down it falls "behind" the Silverlight block. Is there something simple I'm not doing or is there a limitation that Silverlight always be on top of dynamic content displayed via the rest of the HTML DOM? Any ideas? -Kevin

  Hello, I'am looking for a way to have a webview content selectable in the very same way as the stock browser does. user long presses the text the whole word is selected two pins appear at the word's boundary allowing the user to stretch/shrink the selection. I should note that Dolphin HD shows exactly the same text select functionality as the default browser (same icons, animation, etc), so it really should be possible. But I can't figure out how. Then for checking if it works I executed the page using the preview button. The value appeared fine but when I refreshed the page, the value of the template variable disappeared ?   Hello everyone! First time using this service for a question. I hope I am not asking something that has already been answered. I attempted to find an answer to my question with the search engine but i was unable to. My question is as follows: Using php, javascript, or anything actually, is it possible for me to track how my users are viewing the pages on my blog/website? Specifically, I want to track the time the user's browser spends reading specific sections of my content on the same page. For example, it would answer questions such as: How much time did someone spend reading the introduction to my article vs the conclusion? (located on the same page) Basically, tracking the "eyes" of a web visitor by looking at where the browser is currently scrolled down the page too. I'm sorry if i'm a bit noob!   As you may know we have got a new ActionResult called FileResult in RC1 version of ASP.NET MVC. Using that, your action methods can return image to browser dynamically. Something like this: public ActionResult DisplayPhoto(int id) { Photo photo = GetPhotoFromDatabase(id); return File(photo.Content, photo.ContentType); } In the HTML code, we can use something like this: <img src="http://mysite.com/controller/DisplayPhoto/657"> Since the image is returned dynamically, we need a way to cache the returned stream so that we don't need to read the image again from database. I guess we can do it with something like this, I'm not sure: Response.StatusCode = 304; This tells the browser that you already have the image in your cache. I just don't know what to return in my action method after setting StatusCode to 304. Should I return null or something?

  Let's say you want to save a bunch of files somewhere, for instance in BLOBs. Let's say you want to dish these files out via a web page and have the client automatically open the correct application/viewer. Assumption: The browser figures out which application/viewer to use by the mime-type (content-type?) header in the HTTP response. Based on that assumption, in addition to the bytes of the file, you also want to save the MIME type. How would you find the MIME type of a file? I'm currently on a Mac, but this should also work on Windows. Does the browser add this information when posting the file to the web page? Is there a neat python library for finding this information?
