  • Base X string encoding

    - by Paul Stone
    I'm looking for a routine that will encode a string (stream of bytes) into an arbitrary base/alphabet (like base64 encoding but I get to choose the alphabet). I've seen a few routines that do base X encoding for a number, but not for a string.

  • Multiple login locations for an online app.

    - by Goro
    Hello, I am working on a browser based application that will have many users. The catch is that every user should have their own customized login page, but the actual application is the same for everyone, and needs to be in a central location. What is the most secure way of doing this? Would it make more sense to have a copy of the application for each user, and keep the database centralized? The projected number of users is not very high, probably around 20-80. Thank you,

  • Ruby - Read file in batches

    - by Algorist
    Hi, I am reading a file that is 10mb in size and which contains some id's. I read them into a list in ruby. I am concerned that it might cause memory issues in the future, when the number of id's in file might increase. Is there a effective way of reading a large file in batches? Thank you

  • SQL Server Query

    - by Scott Jackson
    Hi, I'm trying to do some work with my SQL table. I have 2 buildings with room numbers 1 - 100 in building 1 and 101 - 199 in building 2. I have a location field (which I've just created) and want to run a query to populate it with either 'Building 1' or 'Building 2' depending on which room number it has in the 'Room' field. Many thanks for your help. Regards Scott

  • Normalizing Item Names & Synonyms

    - by RabidFire
    Consider an e-commerce application with multiple stores. Each store owner can edit the item catalog of his store. My current database schema is as follows: item_names: id | name | description | picture | common(BOOL) items: id | item_name_id | picture | price | description | picture item_synonyms: id | item_name_id | name | error(BOOL) Notes: error indicates a wrong spelling (eg. "Ericson"). description and picture of the item_names table are "globals" that can optionally be overridden by "local" description and picture fields of the items table (in case the store owner wants to supply a different picture for an item). common helps separate unique item names ("Jimmy Joe's Cheese Pizza" from "Cheese Pizza") I think the bright side of this schema is: Optimized searching & Handling Synonyms: I can query the item_names & item_synonyms tables using name LIKE %QUERY% and obtain the list of item_name_ids that need to be joined with the items table. (Examples of synonyms: "Sony Ericsson", "Sony Ericson", "X10", "X 10") Autocompletion: Again, a simple query to the item_names table. I can avoid the usage of DISTINCT and it minimizes number of variations ("Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X10", "Sony Ericsson - Xperia X10", "Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson") The down side would be: Overhead: When inserting an item, I query item_names to see if this name already exists. If not, I create a new entry. When deleting an item, I count the number of entries with the same name. If this is the only item with that name, I delete the entry from the item_names table (just to keep things clean; accounts for possible erroneous submissions). And updating is the combination of both. Weird Item Names: Store owners sometimes use sentences like "Harry Potter 1, 2 Books + CDs + Magic Hat". There's something off about having so much overhead to accommodate cases like this. This would perhaps be the prime reason I'm tempted to go for a schema like this: items: id | name | picture | price | description | picture (... with item_names and item_synonyms as utility tables that I could query) Is there a better schema you would suggested? Should item names be normalized for autocomplete? Is this probably what Facebook does for "School", "City" entries? Is the first schema or the second better/optimal for search? Thanks in advance! • Balancing heuristics (for timetable problem)

    - by genesiss
    I'm writing a genetic algorithm for generating timetables. At the moment I'm using these two heuristics: Number of holes between lectures in one day (related) (less holes - bigger score) Each hour has some value, so for each timetable I sum values for hours when lectures are on. (lectures at more appropriate hours - bigger score) I want to balance these two heuristics, so the algorithm wouldn't favor neither one. What would be the best way to achieve this?

  • How do you hook a C++ compiled dll function to a sql database?

    - by Thomas
    I want to do something like: lastName SIMILARTO(lastName, 'Schwarseneger', 2) where lastName is the field in the database, 'Schwarseneger' is the value that lastName field is being compared to and 2 is the maximum number of characters (edit distance) that can differ between the lastName field, and the entered value. I can implement the SIMILARTO function in C++ using the Levenshtein distance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levenshtein_distance), but how do hook the function in a dll to a mySQL implementation?

  • CoreData NSFetchedResultsController Empty Section Display

    - by user280390
    Hello I would like to show a fixed number of sections in a table view with a Fetched Results Controller as the data source. If you image the contacts app where sections organised by the alphabet, it will not have a header for B if there are no contacts in that section, so the section headers you see are A then C. I would like to display a section header in my table (for B), but without any rows. an empty section in effect. Can NSFetchedResultsController do this for me?

  • Changing tabs in android

    - by Pavel
    Hi guys. Can someone please tell me how to change tab by clicking on element INSIDE the tab? I already tried it with global data. The code looks like this: public class Tabs extends TabActivity { int tabNumber = 0; private TabHost tabHost; int returnedTabNumber = 0; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); Resources res = getResources(); // Resource object to get Drawables tabHost = getTabHost(); // The activity TabHost TabHost.TabSpec spec; // Resusable TabSpec for each tab Intent intent; // Reusable Intent for each tab // Create an Intent to launch an Activity for the tab (to be reused) intent = new Intent().setClass(this, Tribocracy.class); // Initialize a TabSpec for each tab and add it to the TabHost spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("map").setIndicator("Map", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_artists)) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); // Do the same for the other tabs intent = new Intent().setClass(this, Areas.class); spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("areas").setIndicator("Areas", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_albums)) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); // Do the same for the other tabs intent = new Intent().setClass(this, Settings.class); spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("settings").setIndicator("Settings", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_albums)) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); tabHost.setCurrentTab(tabNumber); } protected void onResume() { super.onResume(); GlobalData globalData = ((GlobalData)getApplicationContext()); returnedTabNumber = globalData.getTabNumber(); tabHost.setCurrentTab(returnedTabNumber); } } The global adapter looks like this: public class GlobalData extends Application { //---------------------------------------------------- private int Point1; //define the vars here private int Point2; //define the vars here private int Point3; //define the vars here private int Point4; //define the vars here private int Point5; //define the vars here private int Point6; //define the vars here private int tabNumber; public int getTabNumber() //getter of the value { return tabNumber; } public int setTabNumber(int number) //setter of the value { tabNumber = number; return tabNumber; } } Now when I'm trying to change tab in my ListActivity tab by clicking on one of the items it doesn't do anything and stays on the ListActivity tab. Perhaps I shouldn't use onResume() here. Basically I want to go to first tab when I click on one of the items in the list. Please help!

  • Problem on a Floyd-Warshall implementation using c++

    - by Henrique
    I've got a assignment for my college, already implemented Dijkstra and Bellman-Ford sucessfully, but i'm on trouble on this one. Everything looks fine, but it's not giving me the correct answer. Here's the code: void FloydWarshall() { //Also assume that n is the number of vertices and edgeCost(i,i) = 0 int path[500][500]; /* A 2-dimensional matrix. At each step in the algorithm, path[i][j] is the shortest path from i to j using intermediate vertices (1..k-1). Each path[i][j] is initialized to edgeCost(i,j) or infinity if there is no edge between i and j. */ for(int i = 0 ; i <= nvertices ; i++) for(int j = 0 ; j <= nvertices ; j++) path[i][j] = INFINITY; for(int j = 0 ; j < narestas ; j++) //narestas = number of edges { path[arestas[j]->v1][arestas[j]->v2] = arestas[j]->peso; //peso = weight of the edge (aresta = edge) path[arestas[j]->v2][arestas[j]->v1] = arestas[j]->peso; } for(int i = 0 ; i <= nvertices ; i++) //path(i, i) = 0 path[i][i] = 0; //test print, it's working fine //printf("\n\n\nResultado FloydWarshall:\n"); //for(int i = 1 ; i <= nvertices ; i++) // printf("distancia ao vertice %d: %d\n", i, path[1][i]); //heres the problem, it messes up, and even a edge who costs 4, and the minimum is 4, it prints 2. //for k = 1 to n for(int k = 1 ; k <= nvertices ; k++) //for i = 1 to n for(int i = 1 ; i <= nvertices ; i++) //for j := 1 to n for(int j = 1 ; j <= nvertices ; j++) if(path[i][j] > path[i][k] + path[k][j]) path[i][j] = path[i][k] + path[k][j]; printf("\n\n\nResultado FloydWarshall:\n"); for(int i = 1 ; i <= nvertices ; i++) printf("distancia ao vertice %d: %d\n", i, path[1][i]); } im using this graph example i've made: 6 7 1 2 4 1 5 1 2 3 1 2 5 2 5 6 3 6 4 6 3 4 2 means we have 6 vertices (1 to 6), and 7 edges (1,2) with weight 4... etc.. If anyone need more info, i'm up to giving it, just tired of looking at this code and not finding an error.

    - by Alan
    I have followed answer given by CMS in relation to getting a menu to stay in one place on the page whilst you scroll the page as per this original question and it works very well but I also have a number of images on the page where I'm using the jquery fancylink plugin to show an enlarged image on click. The problem is when you then close the fancylink popup and scroll to the top of the page the static DIV then decides to stick to the very top of the page. Any ideas or help would this would be greatly appreciated.

What is the best way for doing that?
