  I connected my TI-89 to my Windows 7 system, and apparently it is not plug-and-play. There was a link to a Windows configuration setting made available that gave the option to automatically search their windows site for drivers and automatically install them each time i connect an unrecognized device. Well, I selected that link with the intention of it being temporary and just that one time. That didnt work and the location/install of a driver was not successful. How can I reset that setting to not automatically install whatever drivers it thinks might be fitting? I cannot find that configuration setting when I looked for it recently.

• VNC as a Support Tool Over the Internet

  I'd like to set up an environment where I can use VNC to remotely support my clients over the internet. No VPNs involved. I've used the UltraVNC repeater in the past, but the problem is that it requires a dedicated Windows server. What I'd like to do is as follows: VNC Client (me) - NAT - Internet - NAT - VNC Server (the person I'm offering support to) I'd basically like the same functionality that the UltraVNC repeater offers, but the only internet environment I have to host something on is a Linux shared server (standard hosting - PHP, Apache, etc.). Requirements: Multiple platform support for both Client and Server - specifically Mac and Windows Allows for connection with multiple NATs involved (Client and Server side) Will allow me to use my existing hosting environment for any repeater that might be involved I believe the way this would work is that the Server (the person I'm offering support to) when online would connect to a listener on the internet. When they needed support I would connect my Client to the same listener, see them connected, and use the listener (man-in-the-middle) to piggyback my Client to connect to their Server. I'm open to using any software (not limiting myself to VNC) but would prefer a FOSS solution (which is why I'm leaning towards VNC). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Flash movie randomly freeze the browser

  Just recently it seems that my flash player have had some troubles to display flash videos (youtube/dailymotions and others like this). This issue was supposed to be fixed with Flash Player 10 beta if I remember correctly. My flash player is currently at the lastest version available (10.0.45.2) I'm currently on Windows 7 x64. I tried to uninstall it and reboot and reinstall it, didn't work. Sometimes when it freeze and I reboot it "fixes" temporary the problem. The freeze problem is each and every browser. If one fails and freeze, every browsers using the plugin or ActiveX (Opera 10.5/Chrome 5/Safari 4/IE 8/FF 3.7 all installed) will freeze upon playing. I'm quite out of inspirations for fixing this up now I dare say.

• Ventrilo sound delay issue in Windows 7

  I've upgraded my machine to Windows 7 Professional (x64) (using format + clean install, not upgrade install). Everything seems to work fine except for Ventrilo. I used to have Vista Business x64 and Ventrilo worked fine there, on the same machine. The issue I am having is that when I am playing a game and using Ventrilo, everything works fine at first, but after a few minutes, I stop hearing anything that people say. If I minimize, I can see the speaker icons lighting up (meaning that people are talking), but I still can't hear anything. The sounds from the game and other OS sounds still play through the speakers just fine. Eventually, I will close ventrilo and then after a few seconds I will start hearing things that people were saying several minutes ago. I start hearing everything that was said, with no "silent time" in between. Note that the sounds keep playing even AFTER the ventrilo process is dead. I've tried using Ventrilo x64 and x86 versions. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this problem?

  Hi, can I rotate(+save / reencode) a .mp4 with ffmpeg? The only thing I found was on the mailinglist saying -vfilters "rotate=90" but ffmpeg says no vfilters. Tried -vf, it says there is no rotate. If I try to do it in VLC it simply does not rotate and kills the audio (did the vlc encoding EVER work? Every single freakin video I throw at it gets fu****d up in some way -_- ) I'm on a MAC and don't have iWork. Any ideas? I set up an Arch Linux VM and a Ubuntu VM (Ubuntu host), both sharing the same .vdi like so (I had in my mind a dual-boot situation): VDI file (25GB) |- /dev/sda1: 5GB (Arch Linux) |- /dev/sda2: [Ubuntu] |- /dev/sda5 (swap, 1GB) |- /dev/sda6 Ubuntu /, 9GB |- /dev/sda7 Ubuntu /home, 10GB I've now realised that I don't want a dual-boot-type setup, I'd rather boot each machine independently (my initial thought was to share /home between Ubunto and Arch). So, my question: Can I split /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 each to their own .vdi files so I can use them as completely separate machines? I'd rather not have to re-install either Arch (because it took me ages to work it out!) or Ubuntu (because I've already done a few GB of updates and don't want to redo them). I haven't been able to find anything about this - most questions I see are about converting a .vdi to a partition on the host, or splitting a .vdi into multiple smaller files (that are not independent), or converting a partition on the host to a .vdi file. cheers.

There are 3 videos in this series I put the cursor at the end of the last line on 1.1.B and hit Enter. The next line should begin with 1.1.C but nothing appears when the cursor returns to the next line. Another example, if I put the cursor at the end of 1.1.A and hit enter, I should get a new 1.1.B and the original 1.1.B should be renamed to 1.1.C. After hitting enter, a new 1.1.B doesn't appear and the previous 1.1.B drops all the way to the next page. So the next bullet number that should come up doesn't come up. I tried Microsoft Fix It to reset the Registry and that didn't work either. This is very frustrating. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Is there any way to get the MAC address of my stolen laptop, as I have all the docs that prove my ownership of the laptop? I've contacted HP to give me the MAC address, but they told me that it should be taken from the set itself and they can't help.

  I am trying to use MATCH() and/or LOOKUP() in LibreOffice Calc. I have the "Search criteria = and < must apply to whole cells" and the "Enable regular expressions in formulas" options selected. The item I am looking for is a multi word string. How do I provide a search criteria as a cell reference (E3) in to LOOKUP(E3, B1:B20, C1:C20) and have it match the value in B1:B20 EXACTLY? Right now it is matching partial strings rather than matching the cell values exactly.

• How to change font/number/bullet format for the whole list

  Hi, Let's look at a sample word 2010 file here. In this file you can see that the first group of text has their indent modified. The 2nd, 3rd group keep their default format. I want to apply the changed I've made in the group 1st so group 2nd and 3rd and for the new group I'm going to add instead of recieving the default indent. How can I do that? ps. Currently what I have to do is quite boring: Copy group 1 and paste to create new group to get the formatted, then remove the old text, adding new text :(

• GRUB-2 Bootloader fails to load for lack of floppy drive. Ubuntu 10.4 & Windows XP

  2010.07.21 while trying to install Ubuntu 10.4 Hello all, I've been trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my Dell workstation and am unable to get the Grub-2 bootloader to load properly. It seems to be failing for lack of a floppy drive on the system resulting in an error message that reads : error: fd0 cannot get C/H/S values. I've gone through the Grub-2 page at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2 to no avail and other sources having similar problems have likewise turned up no solutions. I would certainly appreciate any insight, here's the background: A while back I was trying to install a different version of Linux and had the same problems, then had to set the project aside for a bit. I don't think this has anything to do with Linux or Ubuntu per se, but rather Grub. The system is an old (4-5 years) Dell workstation that has one drive (128 GB) set up for Windows XP and a second new drive (500GB) which I installed for Linux. There is a DVD/CD drive and the system contains no floppy drive at all. In one attempt to get this working I tried modifying the BIOS to indicate there was a floppy drive - this created a failure earlier in the chain with the BIOS failing to load properly, not unexpected, just a shot in the dark at that point. At the moment I am considering just running out to buy and install a cheap floppy drive to see if that helps. I'll never use the thing though so I'd rather find a solution that doesn't require me to spend money on useless hardware. • Proper 16:9 video size for non-HD 4:3 video (for youtube/vimeo)

  Since High Definition video came out on all the online sites it has changed the default aspect ratio of the player from 4:3 to 16:9. This means that for people posting SD video you have to resize some of your videos to get them to fit right. For example, NTSC DVD quality (aka 480i/p) is 720x480 pixels (width x height). However, low-end High Definition (720i/p) is 1280x720. Resolution Chart Anyway, now that the video players are built for HD you will find that uploading standard quality videos will result in videos that are "letter boxed" which means they have extra black bars on the top and bottom (or sides). Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to get a 720x480 video to fit a box that is designed for HD the best practice would be to crop some of it off so that it fits as 720x404 since: 16/9 = 1.78 (1.7777777777778) 720/405 = 1.78 405x1.78 = 720.9 The same would stand for 640x480 (old TV quality) video that would need to be 640x360 correct? I'm asking because I'm not sure about all this and whether this is the proper way to fix these letter-boxing/display problems.

  Google Chrome stopped working for me today. When I launch Chrome, I see the following error: Windows - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the application. It fails to load the New Tab Page. After a moment, I see the following error: Google Chrome The following page(s) have become unresponsive. You can wait for them to become responsive or kill them. My operating system is Microsoft Windows Vista. I've tried: uninstalled Chrome rebooted reinstalled Chrome rebooted That didn't fix it. What now? Any ideas?
