    A friend of mine was seeking some help regarding HTML tables and JQuery. I have decided to write a few posts demonstrating the various techniques I used with JQuery to achieve the desired functionality. ?here are other posts in my blog regarding JQuery.You can find them all here.I have received some comments from visitors of this blog that are "complaining" about the length of the blog posts. I will not write lengthy posts anymore...I mean I will try not to do so..We will demonstrate this with a step by step example. I will use Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. You can also use Visual Studio 2012 Express Edition. You can also use VS 2010 editions. 1) Launch Visual Studio. Create an ASP.Net Empty Web application. Choose an appropriate name for your application.2) Add a web form, default.aspx page to the application.3) Add a table from the HTML controls tab control (from the Toolbox) on the default.aspx page4) Now we need to download the JQuery library. Please visit the http://jquery.com/ and download the minified version.5) We will add a stylesheet to the application (Style.css)5) Obviously at some point we need to reference the JQuery library and the external stylesheet. Now let's say that we want to highlight only alternate rows of the table.We need to add another rule in the style.css.alternate { background-color:#42709b; color:#ff6a00;} The JQuery code (comment out the previous JQuery code) follows  <script type="text/javascript">        $(document).ready(function() {                     $('table tr:odd').addClass('alternate');        });    </script>  When I run my application through VS I see the following result You can do that with columns as well.   • If You Include the Groovy Editor...

    ...in a NetBeans RCP application, what additional JARs will you need to include for the Groovy Editor to work? Leaving aside the debate on the current state & quality of the NetBeans Groovy Editor, so, assuming you need the Groovy support that the NetBeans Groovy Editor provides, you would check the Groovy Editor checkbox in the Project Properties dialog of your application: As you can see, however, the Groovy Editor depends on other modules, some of which, in turn, depend on yet other modules, and so on. So, I clicked the "Resolve" button above and then created a ZIP distribution, to see which additional JARs had been included. Until that point, I had only been using the "platform" cluster, which means that absolutely everything found in the ZIP's "ide" cluster and "java" cluster have only been included so that the Groovy Editor could be included, i.e., all thanks to clicking the "Resolve" button above. Let's first look at what that means for the "java" cluster: That's not so bad and kind of a side effect of Groovy being Java, i.e., a lot of Java functionality is needed. Now let's look at the "ide" cluster: So, in answer to the original question, if all you want in your NetBeans Platform application, in terms of editor functionality, is the Groovy Editor, then you have a pretty high price to pay. At the very least, I would have assumed that the project support JARs and the debugger support JARs would not be so tightly coupled with the Groovy Editor. That would be a cool thing to separate out from the editor support.

  • Fixing SharePoint 2010 Permission Problems on Windows 7

    I had a tough time trying to have SharePoint working perfectly on a Windows 7 development machine that was occasionally disconnected from the Active Directory (when I am home I must connect through a VPN). I mostly had problems with service applications such as User Profile, Managed Metadata, Business Connectivity Services and the like, and all I knew were cryptical messages such as “access denied” or “the service or application pool is not started”. I was sure that both the services and application pools were running under a domain account that had proper permissions on the SQL Server instance, and basically it was a fresh installation. Lots of people are having the same problem, apparently. After banging my head against the wall for several days, I remembered about farm (what I had) versus stand-alone (which I had never tried) installations. Bingo! Here’s what I did: I dropped all SharePoint databases and logins and reinstalled SP from scratch, only this time not in farm mode, but as stand-alone. After the SharePoint Configuration Wizard started, I cancelled it and started the Management Shell. I created the configuration database manually by using the New-SPConfigurationDatabase cmdlet where I specified a local account – something that the Configuration Wizard wouldn’t allow me to do. Then I restarted the Configuration Wizard and everything began working perfectly! Yes, I got some pre-configured service applications and also some content which I didn’t need, but I realized it was possible to drop and recreate everything the way I wanted to. All services and application pools are now running under local accounts, which is fine for my development needs. Really, Microsoft… I hope this will bring light to someone facing the same problems!

  • Getting a lot of postmaster undeliverable notices for non-existent users

    I've had my domain (straightpathsql.com) for a few years now. I host my e-mail with Google Accounts for business and have for awhile. ALl of the sudden in the past week I am starting to get a lot of postmaster delivery fail notices from various domains, most of them involving bogus e-mail addresses at my domain ([email protected], for example)... My assumption here is that someone is trying to relay on some other host (not my hosts which are secure through google apps for business, I presume) and there isn't much I can do to stop it. But I just want to make sure there isn't something else I need to be looking at here.. An example delivery fail notice is below.. I know nothing of those addresses below and they look like garbage... (Quick edit: the reason I get these messages is I set myself up as a catch all, so it doesn't matter what e-mail you send a note to at my domain, I'll get it if the account isn't setup... All of the failure messages are sent to bogus addresses on my domain) The following message to <[email protected]> was undeliverable.     Quite often most of us require Calculator application to evaluate percentage calculations, divisions,etc. Whenever I needed a calculator application I launch Windows Calculator application as it’s built into each and every version of Windows I use.  But the moment I learn that almost all the web browsers have a built in calculator, I stopped using Windows Calculator.  Google Search Box – Every Browser’s Built In Calculator Google Search Box is the built in calculator of every web browser. The search box is capable of evaluation simple expressions like 20/50+10 as well as complex arithmetic formulas that include functions like sin, cos, tan,etc. Almost every web browser has Google Search box by default, if not you can install it very quickly. In Google Chrome browser, Google Search box is built in right inside the address bar. Oracle’s Primavera P6 Analytics 2.0 business intelligence solution enables organizations using Oracle’s Primavera P6 Professional Project Management to do just that: identify critical issues and uncover trends in stores of project data. Primavera P6 Analytics provides management with the ability to look at not only how a single effort is progressing, but also how the entire organization is doing from a project perspective. The latest release includes new features that make it even easier to gather and analyze critical information.     We are getting some great proof point stories now from our customers who are succeeding with the Exalytics in-memory system for OBI and Essbase.  See below for some recent testimony: San Diego Unified School District Harnesses Attendance, Procurement, and Operational Data with Oracle Exalytics, Generating $4.4 Million in Savings: according to independent assessment by Mainstay Salire, the district is on track to achieve substantial benefits from the Oracle Exalytics solution, including an $8.25 million increase in attendance revenue, $75,000 a year savings in operational efficiencies, and $1 million in hardware cost avoidance.   • Algorithm to use for shop floor layout?

    I ran into a classroom problem yesterday (business oriented class, not computer science) and I found it interesting from an algorithmic perspective. The problem goes something like this: Assume there is a shop floor with N different rooms, and you have N different departments that need to go in those rooms. The departments and the rooms are all the same size, so any department could go in any room. There is a known travel distance from each room to each other room. There is also a known amount of trips necessary from one department to another (trips are counted the same regardless which room they originate from, so a trip from A to B is equivalent to a trip from B to A). Given those inputs, determine a layout of departments into rooms which minimizes travel time. What is the best way to approach this problem algorithmically? Is there already a particular algorithm or class of algorithms designed to solve this type of problem? Does this type of problem have a name in computer science? I am not looking for you to design an algorithm to solve this, although feel free to do so if you would like. I'm wondering if this is a problem space that has already been well defined and studied algorithmically and if so get some links to research further. I can see a lot of different data structures and algorithms that might apply to this and I'm curious which approach would be "best". And don't worry, you are not doing my homework for me. This is not a homework problem per se, as this is a business course and we were simply discussing the concepts and not trying to solve the problem algorithmically.

  • IIM Calcutta &ndash; EPBM 14 &ndash; Campus Visit &ndash; Day 2 &ndash; IS_Strategy and Internationa

    Hey Guys~ So the second day of the week starts, and we were all set for coming sessions on : - IS & Strategy and, - Changing Geo-politics & Business Environment We did our daily chores, rushed for breakfast, and reached Auditorioum, almost on time. IS & Strategy session was quite informative and interactive, and the prof. gave lot of examples, and it really gives us solid understanding by relating things with examples. Then goes the lunch, but the IS session over shoot for 15 minutes so our idea of taking a nap in lunch was not working out, but anyway we did our lunch and tried to sleep for 10-15 minutes. We got back and session on International Business started. Frankly, it’s a great topic, but we had tough time to be attentive, and it was hard to keep ourselves awake :P Anyhow the session came to an end, and we went to Library, and roamed around campus. Got back, had dinner, and went for a night walk, and ice-cream party. Lastly we did went to the platform inside the lake, and had a gag session, got back and  did “ITC eChaupal” case study. We have planned to visit Kali Mandir tomorrow, so I’ve to sleep for few hours…GN! Stay tuned for more… ram :)

  • Oracle DB, Oracle ADF, GlassFish, JDeveloper, NetBeans IDE

    Today I started some experiments with Oracle guru Steven Davelaar, who lives about 20 minutes away from my place in Amsterdam by underground. Very convenient. He showed me a bunch of things in JDeveloper, while I showed him a bunch of things in NetBeans IDE. He managed to deploy an ADF application to GlassFish in JDeveloper. And, so far, I failed to do the same thing in NetBeans IDE. Quite a few (around 100) JARs are needed, aside from the question of correctly setting up or importing an ADF application, and we're still figuring out which and who and when and where. And how. And if. And why. Nonetheless, I did manage to get Oracle DB set up in NetBeans IDE, after downloading it from here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/products/express-edition/downloads/index.html Here's what it looks like when registered in NetBeans IDE, i.e., notice that I have a cool sample database available:   Data from the above database I managed to display very easily via the various NetBeans code generators in a PrimeFaces application, exactly as has been done many times in demonstrations and tutorials everywhere, i.e., generate JPA entities, then create an EJB, then inject the EJB into a PrimeFaces data table: The next step is to somehow do the same with ADF in NetBeans IDE. I had some trouble with passwords for Oracle DB, the command line (with Steven's help) proved helpful: Wish us luck as we continue our ADF-inspired journey.     Il 26 Giugno scorso presso l’Aula Magna della Fondazione CUOA si è tentuo il workshop “L’evoluzione dei modelli e dei sistemi di analisi e reporting direzionale”, promosso dal Club Finance CUOA con la collaborazione di Oracle .  Una recente analisi di Gartner ha evidenziato che Executives Finance ed IT hanno identificato Business Intelligence, Analytics e Performance Management come tema prioritario su cui concentrare gli investimenti “tecnologici” nel 2013 confermando, se mai qualcuno ne avesse avuto bisogno, la continua e crescente attenzione delle aziende alla propria capacità di definire, produrre e gestire informazioni funzionali all’identificazione di opportunità, alla valutazione di rischi ed impatti, alla simulazione degli effetti di operazioni ordinarie e straordinarie...in un solo concetto, informazioni funzionali alla guida dell’azienda. Questo dato è ancora più interessante se incrociato con il risultato di una survey condotta da CFO Magazine e KPMG International nella quale il 48% dei CFO intervistati ha dichiarato di ritenere i propri sistemi datati ed poco flessibili, quindi un limite, se non proprio un freno, alla loro volontà di essere agenti del cambiamento. A fronte di tutto questo, le aziende dimostrano un crescente interesse a capire cosa fare, oggi e domani, per migliorare la propria capacità di sfruttare una risorsa aziendale estremamente pregiata quale l’informazione.     The info360/AIIM conference is March 22-24 in Washington DC.
