  • Source for Names to use in web scraping

    - by PyNEwbie
Can anyone suggest a good source of names that I can use to help analyze some tables on web pages. The first column of the tables I am scraping have names alone, names and titles or just titles. The names can be as varied as John Smith to Vikram Saksena. I have been poking around for a compiled list of words that can be found in proper names.

  • jQuery: Gmail Star?

    - by st4ck0v3rfl0w
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had any good tutorials around creating a gmail inbox star (favorite) ? EDIT: I guess I want to create something just like the stackoverflow star or gmail inbox star. I have a set of list items that i've added several controls to. One being a checkbox (for archiving, or batch deleting) and another I have a placeholder checkbox for favoriting. I'm just curious as to what the best approach is for making it snazzy with jquery.

Any help would be really good. Thanks.

  • Recommended Bean Utility Libraries for Java

    - by Jim Ferrans
I'm looking for a good, well-supported, and efficient Java library that uses reflection to automate JavaBean operations. These include making a deep copy of an arbitrary bean hierarchy (with nested lists and maps of beans), comparing two bean hierarchies for deep equality, and "transmorphing" one bean to another of a different class. Some possibilities include Apache Commons BeanUtils, Spring's BeanUtils, and Java's Bean support. Which libraries would you recommend?

  • Tic-Tac-Toe AI: How to Make the Tree?

    - by cam
I'm having a huge block trying to understand "trees" while making a Tic-Tac-Toe bot. I understand the concept, but I can't figure out to implement them. Can someone show me an example of how a tree should be generated for such a case? Or a good tutorial on generating trees? I guess the hard part is generating partial trees. I know how to implement generating a whole tree, but not parts of it.

  • Zen Code + jQuery

Hi, I just read this article at Smashing Magazine (http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/11/21/zen-coding-a-new-way-to-write-html-code/) about Zen Code. Maybe there is any jQuery plugin for this? Might be good for json data inserting/templating.

  • git push current branch

    - by Nocturne
I use the following command to push to my remote branch: git push origin sandbox If I say git push origin Does that push changes in my other branches too, or does it only update my current branch? (I have three branches: master, production and sandbox). (The git push documentation is not very clear about this, so I'd like to clarify this for good) What branches/remotes do the following git push commands exactly update? git push git push origin ("origin" above is a remote) (I understand that "git push [remote] [branch]" will push only that branch to the remote)

  • App.Config Best Practices ?

    - by abmv
Normally when you have a application configuration file in your application and your application is expected to read from it. Is it good to check initially at start up if this file exists and raise an error and not to proceed at all ? (Worse case senarios) Or leave it to the unhandled exception manager to handle it and shut down the application? (WPF/Winforms etc)

  • Javascript event detection

    - by Ben Shelock
I can't find any good documentation on this suprisingly so I'm posting it here. What's the raw javascript equivilent to this: $(elem).click(function(){ alert(this.text()); }); All I can find is this <elem onlick="func()" /> which is not what I want, I want to be able to do it just with javascript not within the context of an element.

  • Turn off iPhone/Safari input element rounding

    - by Alex
My website renders well on the iPhone/Safari browser, with one exception: My text input fields have a weird rounded style which doesn't look good at all with the rest of my website. Is there a way to instruct Safari (via CSS or metadata) not to round the input fields and render them rectangular as intended?

  • Testing a Doctrine2 Entity with assertEquals results in fatal out-of-memory error

    - by Matt
I have a PHPUnit test that's using a Doctrine2 custom repository and Doctrine Fixtures. I wanted to test that a query gave me back an expected entity from my fixture. But when I try $this->assertEquals($expectedEntity, $result);, I get Fatal error: out of memory. I'm guessing it is recursing into all the relations and the entity manager and whatnot. Is there a good way to test this equality? Should I just assertEquals on the IDs of the entities?

  • Tips for transitioning from Visual Basic to Xcode

    - by Cyclone
I've been programming in VB.net for a while now, and I finally got access to a mac to make ipod apps. What are some useful sites, videos, etc. that could help me get used to Objective C and the Xcode IDE? I've stumbled upon the samples on the apple dev site, but none of them really give good examples which I could learn the syntax of the language from. Thanks for the help, Objective C is really a big change from VB.net!
