  • Running Long Process: Indexing 5GB docs with Lucene

    Situation:I have an ASP .NET application that will search through docs using Lucene. I want to run the initial indexing (the index will be incremental after the initial run so there wont be need to index the whole directory again in future). Currently, I have about 5GB of docs (45000files). Problem: My application times out before completing the process. I have altered the TimeOut like this: HttpContext.Current.Server.ScriptTimeout = 200000; but it still does not complete the process. How can I run the index?

  • Creating two Windows by running one as a process from another - C

    Hello, I have a windows form that has a simple menu and performs a simple operation, I want to be able to create another windows form with all the functionality of a menu bar, message pump etc.. as a seperate process so I can then share the results of the operation to the second window. I.E. 1) Form A opens Form B opens as a separate process 2)Form A performs operation 3)Form A passes results via memory to Form B 4)Form B display results I'm confused as to how to go about it, the main app runs fine but i'm not sure how to add a second window if the first one already exists.     Hi, I am required to create a custom Process Template on using VSTS 2010 Beta 1. Given that I did not use templates in VSTS 2008 I am not even sure where to start. The TFS and VS 2010 are all installed and configured. First I tried to create a test project and selected a built-in template "MSF for Agile Software etc." I wanted to try to modify (customize) it to begin with but was not sure how to do it. I searched high and low but could not find a sample/walkthrough/hint/help on how to develop a process template from scratch. Sorry for the messy explanation but I am kind of VERY frustrated...

  • Oracle data provider hangs IIS worker process when web site is stopped

    We're experiencing a nasty issue in Oracle 11g Release 2 where the w3wp process takes over and entire processor core, and debugging shows that the Oracle data provider is throwing ThreadAbortExceptions infinitely. A developer found this issue by doing the following: 1) Browse a web site that uses Oracle data connections locally (http://localhost/OracleWebSite) - we use IIS, not the ASP.NET dev server, for all of our sites. This ensures that the w3wp process is running and that an active Oracle pool of connections exists in the app pool. 2) Stop the web site (or perform a Rebuild All operation in Visual Studio on the web site in question). Our Oracle connection handling in the affected applications (all Oracle web apps) is well-established and robust. This issue does not occur if we disable connection pooling. This issue does not occur in Oracle 11g Release 1.

    Hello, I've asked this before but I was hoping for another answer and perhaps some code samples because I've been having a difficult time with this. I have an asp.net page. The user hits the "Run" button and I have code IN AN ASSEMBLY, not in the APP_CODE folder that is called and runs a long process that moves product info from a file into the database. While the user waits, I would like them to see status updates like what product the import process in on and status info. I'm assuming I'd break off into another thread and use Ajax but I have no idea how to do this. Some code samples would be very helpful, thanks.

    Hello, just a quickie (or maybe not:] ): Is it possible to get somehow list of running applications/processes and, while running in background, check which process is active? Additionally - if somehow, the answer was yes, is it possible to react for change of active window / application react just as if it was Event, or bind to it custom event (e.g. Event.SystemActiveAppChange)? Thank you for answers as well as pointers. EDIT: Due to probable missunderstanding, I mean local applications - on your win/mac/linux machine - I would like to (in process of learning of language) track what apps I use the most, make a little graph maybe? So, the point is: in AIR app, developed in FLEX, I would like to get/list all running applications/processes, as well as which one is active (on user's PC/Mac/Linux)

    Hi all, Have had a good hunt through the archive but can't find anyone trying to do this... hope someone familiar with the facebook API can confirm if it's possible? Basically I have a client who wants to replicate their membership sign up process in a tab on their facebook page. The form would still submit to their own website to process, we'd just be replicating the form fields. As an additional requirement they want to capture peoples facebook user ID and get permission to post back to a users wall at the same time... The idea being that once the user is a member we can post back to their wall so their friends see that they've signed up... Basically after a sanity check that: 1) these things are possible to do; 2) the best method to build the form in a FB page - I'm guessing using JS to create all fields & ajax to submit to the external site?   • Unsafe, super-fast cross-process memory buffer?

    Cross-process memory buffers always have some overhead, and my understanding is this is quite high. But what if you're implementing a cross-process render-buffer, this isn't critically important in the same way as other data so are there techniques we can use to get 'raw' access to a chunk of memory from multiple processes, with no safety nets apart from it not crashing? Or do modern operating systems simply not work with unabstracted memory in a way to make this possible? I'm working in C++ but the question applies to Win XP/Vista/7, MacOSX 10.5+ (& Linux less importantly).

  • Account for cancelling an update process

    I'm trying to develop the logic of updating my (Java) application but I'm stuck on a particular problem. The user can, at any time, be it on purpose (by clicking the Cancel button) or unwillingly (system/power failure) cancel the update process. If the updater was busy downloading files or unpacking files and thus didn't make any changes to the main application yet, this can be easily recovered by re-downloading the files and continuing the update process like normally. But, how can i account for changes made to the main application (i.e. a file was only partially replaced, some files were corrupted, etc.) that result in a main application that can't be launched anymore? Is it possible to rollback the changes made during the update without having to keep a full backup of my application or without doing a full reinstall? Are there any standards for updating an application that can help me with this?

    I'm studying computer systems and I've made this very simple function which uses fork() to create a child process. fork() returns a pid_t that is 0 if it's a child process. But calling the getpid() function within this child process returns a different, nonzero pid. In the code I have below, is newPid only meaningful in the context of the program, and not to the operating system?     How is it possible to auto start my application or run a process when the user turns on the phone. If you look at ex. Outloock WP7 included in the operating system then updates the icon so that you can see that there are new mail. This is a process in the background running. But I've read a bit about this now, but can not find out that this is possible using the SDK from Microsoft? Is it not possible?? If possible, how does one do that? Notice: I do not want any solution that involves jailbreak.

  • Detecting when a process has finished (but not exited)

    I have a program that's run in unix (that I have no control over) that when finished prints 'Completed successfully' but does not exit. I want to automatically detect when the process finishes (by checking the output of the command), so that I can kill the process and so that I can proceed do other activities. The complexity comes because I want to be able to run multiples of these scripts concurrently. (One activity I need to do requires the script to be called with various inputs, but each time the script runs it takes a while to return, and so I want to do them in parallel) Has anyone done something similar to this? I could redirect the stderr and stdout output of the command to a temporary file which has a random file name, then tail the file and pipe to grep for the end conditions (I.e. the certain log lines). The problem is, surely tail -f would keep running, and so it would never exit. Should I poll? If so, what's the best approach?

I want to query the table in chunks and process each chunk in 10 threads. Each thread basically will send the data to an individual node on a 10 node cluster on the cloud..     Remember iwantsandy.com? It was quite popular for what it did. ANyways, I'm looking to do something similar, but my question is, how does one process incoming emails? Let's assuming I'm using PHP or maybe even Ruby to do this. I would need a way to process the emails and dump them into a DB or something. Ok fine, but my main question is getting a script to kick off when an email comes in. I have a VPS so I have full control over my environment and it's running Centos.

    Ok so I am learning C++ slowly. I am familiar with all the console syntax and everything, but now I'm moving on to windows programming. Now what im trying to do, is create a DLL that I inject into a process, so it's hooked in. All I want the C++ application to do, is have text in it, that says "Hooked" if it's successfully injected, and an error if something wrong happened. Or even if I can do it without a DLL, Just open an executable, and when the certain process I'm trying to hook is opened, the status is changed to "Hooked". Also I have a safaribooksonline.com account so if there is any good reads you would recommend, just write it down. thanks

    In Linux and other UNIX-like operating systems, it is possible for two (or more) processes to share an Internet socket. Assuming there is no parent-child relationship between the processes, is there any way to tell what process originally created a socket? Clarification: I need to determine this from "outside" the processes using the /proc filesystem or similar. I can't modify the code of the processes. I can already tell what processes are sharing sockets by reading /proc/<pid>/fd, but that doesn't tell me what process originally created them.

Ideally what I'm looking for is some way of setting a process ID to the first script and being able to see if it is running or not via that ID from the second. Additionally, I'd like to be able to terminate that long running process. Any cool shortcuts exist to make this happen?
