  • How to achieve "merge" of two data sets with Insert SQL statemen (Oracle DBMS)t?

    - by Roman Kagan
Hi: What would be the insert SQL statement to merge data from two tables. For example I have events_source_1 table (columns: event_type_id, event_date) and events_source_2 table (same columns) and events_target table (columns: event_type_id, past_event_date nullalbe, future_event_date nullable). Events_source_1 has past events, Events_source_2 has future events and resultant events_target would contain past and future events in the same row for same event_type_id. If there is no past_events but future_events then past_event_date won't be set and only future_event_date will be and the opposite is true too. Thanks a lot in advance for helping me resolving this problem.

  • Improving MySQL Update Query Efficiency

    - by Russell C.
In our database tables we keep a number of counting columns to help reduce the number of simple lookup queries. For example, in our users table we have columns for the number of reviews written, photos uploaded, friends, followers, etc. To help make sure these stay in sync we have a script that runs periodically to check and update these counting columns. The problem is that now that our database has grown significantly the queries we have been using are taking forever to run since they are totally inefficient. I would appreciate someone with more MySQL knowledge than myself to recommend how we can improve it's efficiency: update users set photos=(select count(*) from photos where photos.status="A" AND photos.user_id=users.id) where users.status="A"; If this were a select statement I would just use a join but I'm not sure if that is possible with update. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Reusing an anonymous parameter in a prepared statement

    - by Chris Lieb
I am customizing the insert SQL generated by hibernate and have hit an issue. When Hibernate generates the query by itself, it inserts data into the first two columns of the table, but this causes a database error since all four columns of the table are non-nullable. For the insert to be performed properly, it must insert the same data into two columns of the new record. This means that I need Hibernate to bind the same data to two different parameters in the query (prepared statement) that I am writing. Is there some SQL syntax that allows me to refer to anonymous parameters bound to a prepared statement in an order different from which they are bound? Details REF_USER_PAGE_XREF ---------------------------------------- PK FK1 | NETWORK_ID | VARCHAR2(100) PK FK1 | PAGE_PATH | VARCHAR2(1000) | USER_LAST_UPDT | VARCHAR2(100) | TMSP_LAST_UPDT | DATE insert into REF_USER_ROLE_XREF( NETWORK_ID, PAGE_PATH, TMSP_LAST_UPDT, USER_LAST_UPDT) values ( ?, /* want to insert the same data here */ ?, ?, /* and here */ (select to_char(sysdate, 'DD-MON-YY') from dual) I want to insert the same data into the first and third anonymous parameters.

  • How to select the range for pasting using vba

    - by user1616384
I wrote some code for selecting the particular row and pasting it in column wise using paste-special property. It is working correctly my code is : lngRow = Me.TextBox4.Value strCol = Me.TextBox5.Value Set rng = Range("A:A").Find(What:=lngRow, LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt:=xlWhole) If rng Is Nothing Then MsgBox "Value not found in row 1", vbExclamation Else Range(rng, rng.End(xlToRight)).Copy Range("A1:E3").Columns(strCol).Offset(, 1).PasteSpecial Transpose:=True Range("A1:E3").Rows(1).Copy Range("A1:E3").Columns(strCol).PasteSpecial Transpose:=True endif the problem here is I am using Range(rng, rng.End(xlToRight)).Copy to copy the values and for pasting I am using Range("A1:E3").Columns(strCol).Offset(, 1).PasteSpecial Transpose:=True. How can I paste all the values which are copied? Because if the values are in column F then this macro will not paste those values.

  • How do I generate optimized SQL with my (added) partial methods on LINQ entities

    - by Ra
Let's say I have a Person table with a FirstName and LastName column. I extended the Person LINQ entity class with a get property "FullName", that concatenates the first and last names. A LINQ query like: from person... select fullName where id = x generates SQL selecting all Patient columns, since FullName is evaluated after firing the query. I would like to limit the select clause to only the 2 columns required. This is a simple example, but the limitation it shows is that I cannot isolate my business/formatting rules but have to embed them in the LINQ query, so they're not reusable (since it is in the select part) or I need select both columns separately, and then concatenate them higher up in the data or business layer with static helper methods. Any ideas for a clean design using the entity partial classes or extensions? Thanks

  • Swing: Multiple CellEditors for a column

    - by Luhar
Hi, In my JTable, I have two editable numeric columns. The editor for both columns extends AbstractCellEditor and uses a JFormattedTextField as an the editing component. The problem is that the format for input depends on the value of another column in the row. If condition X is met, the number of fraction digits should be Y, otherwise they should be Y+2. I attempted to override the getTableCellEditor(..) method to associate a TableCellEditor per row. See this example. However, since I have two editable columns, sharing a single TableCellEditor object per row gives some very odd results. I don't think this is an appropriate solution. Any ideas on how to approach this would be much appreciated! Thank you!

  • insert DropDownList and TextField in Gridview

    - by userk
HI,I need to create a GridView which DataSource is an object. Depending on the object I may need some columns with DropDownLists or TextFields (but not all rows) As I don't know the number or columns, they have to be dynamic. I found this solution: TemplateField t = new TemplateField(); t.HeaderTemplate = new GridViewTemplate("header", "title"); t.ItemTemplate = new GridViewTemplate("combobox", "val"); GridView1.Columns.Add(t); GridView1.DataSource = ds; GridView1.DataBind(); Where GridViewTemplate extends ITemplate. This didn't work for me, it fills all rows of a column and I had no way to control witch DropDownList and TextFields need to be created (object info). All the DropDownLists need to have an ID also only known by the object. There are some way I can do this?

  • Fetching a result twice with deferend name

    - by user1799842
I have 1 table with tasks named opentask:columns: id,title,description,expires,creator_id,creator_name, executer_id, executer_name, priority_id, status_id1 table with users named user: with columns: user_id, username What I want is to create a query where there will be all columns from opentask table where the executer_id will be equal to the user_id of user table AND the creator_id will be equal to the user_id again. This creates a confusion because the first equality excludes the second. So I need somehow to create a query where I will include the usernames for the executer with something like where "opentask.executer_id=user_user_id" and at the same time I will include the username again (as a differend name?) for the creator with something like "where opentask.executer_id=user_user_id"So I try this, which of course I know that is missing something, can you help? SELECT DISTINCT id, title, description, expires, creator_id, executer_id, oc_opentask.priority_id, oc_opentask.status_id, priority_name, status_name, user_id, username, (SELECT username FROM oc_opentask, oc_user WHERE oc_opentask.creator_id=oc_user.user_id) AS username2 FROM oc_opentask, oc_opentask_priority, oc_user, oc_opentask_status WHERE oc_opentask.priority_id=oc_opentask_priority.priority_id AND oc_opentask.executer_id=oc_user.user_id AND oc_opentask.status_id=oc_opentask_status.status_id ORDER BY oc_opentask.expires DESC

  • select row from table and substitute a field with one from another column if it exists

    - by EarthMind
I'm trying construct a PostgreSQL query that does the following but so far my efforts have been in vain. Problem: There are two tables: A and B. I'd like to select all columns from table A (having columns: id, name, description) and substitute the "A.name" column with the value of the column "B.title" from table B (having columns: id, table_A_id title, langcode) where B.table_A_id is 5 and B.langcode is "nl" (if there are any rows). My attempts: SELECT A.name, case when exists(select title from B where table_A_id = 5 and langcode= 'nl') then B.title else A.name END FROM A, B WHERE A.id = 5 and B.table_A_id = 5 and B.langcode = 'nl' -- second try: SELECT COALESCE(B.title, A.name) as name from A, B where A.id = 5 and B.table_A_id = 5 and exists(select title from B where table_A_id = 5 and langcode= 'nl') I've tried using a CASE and COALESCE() but failed due to my inexperience with both concepts. Thanks in advance.

  • Multi "column" DataGridView C#

    - by Wesley
I have a DataGridView that's bound to a DataSet. It has columns DateCreated, Weight, DateUsed. Those three columns do not take up much horizontal space on DataGridView that is nearly full screen. Is it possible to have those columns wrap back to the top if the view is wide enough to support a second group of those colums. So across the header it would read DateCreated, Weight, DateUsed, DateCreated, Weight, DateUsed. Then when a row is clicked, only 3 cells would be highlighted, not all six. Is there something that can provide this functionality?

  • Reading in a file - Warning Message in R

    - by Sheila
I have a file that has 22268 rows BY 2521 columns. When I try to read in the file using this line of code: file <- read.table(textfile, skip=2, header=TRUE, sep="\t", fill=TRUE, blank.lines.skip=FALSE) I get the following error: Warning message: In scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : number of items read is not a multiple of the number of columns I also used this command to see what rows had an incorrect number of columns: x <-count.fields("train.gct", sep="\t", skip=2) which(x != 2521) and got back a list of about 20 rows that were incorrect. Is there a way to fill these rows with NA values? I thought that is what the "fill" parameter does in the read.table function, but it doesn't appear so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • SSIS Script Component + Helper Assemblies (.dll's)

    - by Nev_Rahd
I got a script component which does Transformation / DataType conversions / Creating some calculated columns. All the transform validations / datatype conversion methods and for new column generation is put into custom .dll. As this script component would be same for all other tables, only thing is to define input / ouput columns and apply validation methods on required columns. This all works fine. On production server where do I need to deploy my .dll. Would just putting it into GAC will be enough or need to do something else. Regards

  • Importing data from a text file using python

    - by Will
I have a text file containing data in rows and columns (~17000 rows in total). Each column is a uniform number of characters long, with the 'unused' characters filled in by spaces. For example, the first column is 11 characters long, but the last four characters in that column are always spaces (so that it appears to be a nice column when viewed with a text editor). Sometimes it's more than four if the entry is less than 7 characters. The columns are not otherwise separated by commas, tabs, or spaces. They are also not all the same number of characters (the first two are 11, the next two are 8 and the last one is 5 - but again, some are spaces). What I want to do is import the entires (which are numbers) in the last two columns if the second column contains the string 'OW' somewhere in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Get drop down selection from GridView on button press

    - by Chris Stewart
I have an ASP.NET GridView that has four columns. The first three are typical BoundField elements bound to a DataTable. The forth is a TemplateField element that I create a DropDownList in on the OnRowCreated event for the GridView. What I'm attempting to do is walk down the data source for the GridView when a button is pressed. I really just need to get the values for columns one and four of each row. The first three columns have data as expected but the forth is displaying as empty. Is this because it wasn't a part of the DataTable originally? Is there any way to get the value for each drop down as I've described it, or will I need to rework this so each drop down list is a part of the DataTable?

  • Retrieving a single Guid in CRM 4.0

    - by user1746560
I'm new to CRM (version 4.0) and i'm trying to return a 'yearid' guide based on a given year (which is also stored in the entity). So far i've got: public static Guid GetYearID(string yearName) { ICrmService service = CrmServiceFactory.GetCrmService(); // Create the query object. QueryExpression query = new QueryExpression("year"); ColumnSet columns = new ColumnSet(); columns.AddColumn("yearid"); query.ColumnSet = columns; FilterExpression filter = new FilterExpression(); filter.FilterOperator = LogicalOperator. And; filter.AddCondition(new ConditionExpression { AttributeName = "yearName", Operator = ConditionOperator.Equal, Values = new object[] { yearName} }); query.Criteria = filter; } But my questions are: A) What code do in addition to this to actually store the Guid? B) Is using a QueryExpression the most efficient way to do this?

  • Can't INSERT INTO SELECT into a table with identity column

    - by Eran Goldin
In SQL server, I'm using a table variable and when done manipulating it I want to insert its values into a real table that has an identity column which is also the PK. The table variable I'm making has two columns; the physical table has four, the first of which is the identity column, an integer IK. The data types for the columns I want to insert are the same as the target columns' data types. INSERT INTO [dbo].[Message] ([Name], [Type]) SELECT DISTINCT [Code],[MessageType] FROM @TempTableVariable END This fails with Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.Message' with unique index 'IX_Message_Id'. The duplicate key value is (ApplicationSelection). But when trying to insert just Values (...) it works ok. How do I get it right?

  • SQL Outer joins

    - by dsquaredtech
Three tables courses, registration, students columns in students firstname, lastname, studentid, major, admitdate, graddate, gender, dob columns in registration courseid, studentid columns in courses coursenumber, coursename, credits select statement I need to modify select lastname as 'Last Name',sum(credits) as 'Credits Registered For' from students as s inner join registration as r on s.studentid = r.studentid inner join courses as c on c.coursenumber = c.courseid group by last name; the question on the lab is... Modify the previous query to show all students, even if they have not registered for a class. You should have 14 rows. Students who are not registered will show NULL in output. I know this requires outer join of some sort but I'm not fully grasping these joins i've read multiple posts on here and other sites but can't seem figure it out.

  • Is using a DataSet's column Expression works in background same as manual calculation?

    - by Harikrishna
I have one datatable which is not bindided and records are coming from the file by parsing it in the datatable dynamically every time. Now there is three columns in the datatable Marks1,Marks2 and FinalMarks. And their types is decimal. Now for making addition of columns Marks1 and Marks2 's records and store it into FinalMarks column,For that what I do is : datatableResult.Columns["FinalMarks"].Expression="Marks1+Marks2"; It's works properly. It can be done in other way also is foreach (DataRow r in datatableResult.Rows) { r["FinalMarks"]=Convert.ToDecimal(r["Marks1"])+Convert.ToDecimal(r["Marks2"]); } Is first approach same as second approach in background means is both approach same or what? EDIT: I want to know that first approach works in background as second approach.

  • Create macro to move data in a column UP?

    - by user1786695
I have an excel sheet of which the data was jumbled: for example, the data that should have been in Columns AB and AC were instead in Columns B and C, but on the row after. I have the following written which moved the data from B and C to AB and AC respectively: Dim rCell As Range Dim rRng As Range Set rRng = Sheet1.Range("A:A") i = 1 lastRow = ActiveSheet.Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row For Each rCell In rRng.Cells If rCell.Value = "" Then Range("AB" & i) = rCell.Offset(0, 1).Value rCell.Offset(0, 1).ClearContents End If i = i + 1 If i = lastRow + 1 Then Exit Sub End If Next rCell End Sub However, it doesn't fix the problem of the data being on the row BELOW the appropriate row now that they are in the right columns. I am new to VBA Macros so I would appreciate any help to make the data now align. I tried toggling the Offset parameter (-1,0) but it's not working.

  • Reverse-engineer SharePoint fields, content types and list instance—Part2

    - by ybbest
Reverse-engineer SharePoint fields, content types and list instance—Part1 Reverse-engineer SharePoint fields, content types and list instance—Part2 In the part1 of this series, I demonstrated how to use VS2010 to Reverse-engineer SharePoint fields, content types and list instances. In the part 2 of this series, I will demonstrate how to do the same using CKS:Dev. CKS:Dev extends the Visual Studio 2010 SharePoint project system with advanced templates and tools. Using these extensions you will be able to find relevant information from your SharePoint environments without leaving Visual Studio. You will have greater productivity while developing SharePoint components and you will have greater deployment capabilities on your local SharePoint installation. You can download the complete solution here. 1. First, download and install appropriate CKS:Dev from CodePlex. If you are using SharePoint Foundation 2010 then download and install the SharePoint Foundation 2010 version If you are using SharePoint Server 2010 then download and install the SharePoint Server 2010 version 2. After installation, you need to restart your visual studio and create empty SharePoint. 3. Go to Viewà Server Explorer 4. Add SharePoint web application connection to the server explorer. 5. After add the connection, you can browse to see the contents for the Web Application. 6. Go to Site Columns à YBBEST (Custom Group of you own choice) and right-click the YBBEST Folder and Click Import Site Columns. 7. Go to ContentTypesà YBBEST (Custom Group of you own choice) and right-click the YBBEST Folder and Click Import Content Types. 8. After the import completes, you can find the fields and contentTypes in the SharePoint project below. Of course you need to do some modification to your current project to make it work. 9. Next, create list instances using list instance item template in Visual Studio 10. Finally, create lookup columns using the feature receivers and the final project will look like this. You can download the complete solution here.

  • SQL Server – Learning SQL Server Performance: Indexing Basics – Video

    - by pinaldave
Today I remember one of my older cartoon years ago created for Indexing and Performance. Every single time when Performance is discussed, Indexes are mentioned along with it. In recent times, data and application complexity is continuously growing.  The demand for faster query response, performance, and scalability by organizations is increasing and developers and DBAs need to now write efficient code to achieve this. DBA and Developers A DBA’s role is critical, because a production environment has to run 24×7, hence maintenance, trouble shooting, and quick resolutions are the need of the hour.  The first baby step into any performance tuning exercise in SQL Server involves creating, analysing, and maintaining indexes. Though we have learnt indexing concepts from our college days, indexing implementation inside SQL Server can vary.  Understanding this behaviour and designing our applications appropriately will make sure the application is performed to its highest potential. Video Learning Vinod Kumar and myself we often thought about this and realized that practical understanding of the indexes is very important. One can not master every single aspects of the index. However there are some minimum expertise one should gain if performance is one of the concern. We decided to build a course which just addresses the practical aspects of the performance. In this course, we explored some of these indexing fundamentals and we elaborated on how SQL Server goes about using indexes.  At the end of this course of you will know the basic structure of indexes, practical insights into implementation, and maintenance tips and tricks revolving around indexes.  Finally, we will introduce SQL Server 2012 column store indexes.  We have refrained from discussing internal storage structure of the indexes but have taken a more practical, demo-oriented approach to explain these core concepts. Course Outline Here are salient topics of the course. We have explained every single concept along with a practical demonstration. Additionally shared our personal scripts along with the same. Introduction Fundamentals of Indexing Index Fundamentals Index Fundamentals – Visual Representation Practical Indexing Implementation Techniques Primary Key Over Indexing Duplicate Index Clustered Index Unique Index Included Columns Filtered Index Disabled Index Index Maintenance and Defragmentation Introduction to Columnstore Index Indexing Practical Performance Tips and Tricks Index and Page Types Index and Non Deterministic Columns Index and SET Values Importance of Clustered Index Effect of Compression and Fillfactor Index and Functions Dynamic Management Views (DMV) – Fillfactor Table Scan, Index Scan and Index Seek Index and Order of Columns Final Checklist: Index and Performance Well, we believe we have done our part, now waiting for your comments and feedback.
