  • How to copy path on a mac?

    Windows refugee here. On Windows you can easily copy the path and paste it elsewhere to get to the directory. Here is the situation on the Mac. I am in the Finder 20 folders down and I see the file I want. I go to my application and want to open it, so I pick Open Document from the File menu. However, it is exceedingly difficult and time-consuming to get to the place I want. Is there a way to copy the path in the finder and paste it in the File Open dialog of my application?

    After playing PC games after a few hours I decided to take a break. When I opened up My Computer in Windows 7 I noticed I one of my drives had disappeared. Thinking it was just a glitch, I tried to restart. Upon restart, the BIOS took forever to get through (I didn't notice my disappeared hard drive in the listed drives) and the computer seemed stuck at the "Starting Windows" screen. I hard shut down everything. Opened up the case, used canned air to clear the dust out and made sure all devices were snugly in place. I hooked everything up and powered on. This time, after a few seconds the computer restarted (nothing showed up on screen either). After its restart, the computer didn't do anything. The hard drive indicator light was on the whole time. What happened? :( PC Specs: Windows 7, 3GB RAM, Core 2 Duo, 3 Hard drives

  • 32-bit Ubuntu or 64-bit w/Intel Atom D510 w/4GB RAM?

    (I've seen this question and some related ones, and perhaps this is a duplicate although part of my question is specific to the Atom D510.) I'm going to be installing Ubuntu on a new silent desktop as my latest (and hopefully last) attempt to switch from Windows to Linux for at least most everyday tasks. The new machine is entirely passvely cooled, but as a consequence, not astonishingly powerful — an Atom D510 (dual-core, 1.6GHz, HT) on Intel's D510MO board. That's fine, I won't use it for gaming, (much) video editing, etc. It's a 64-bit processor and I'm maxing the board out at 4GB of RAM (hey, that 1.6 CPU needs all the help it can get), which naturally raises the question of whether to install Ubuntu 64-bit or 32-bit (and if the latter, either live with the missing RAM, or do the PAE kernel dance). Although I've used Linux on servers for years, I'm very nearly a Linux desktop newbie and am not currently in the mood to fight driver wars and such. So if I'm setting myself up for failure with 64-bit, I'll live with the missing ~0.8GB or fiddle with PAE. But if 64-bit is entirely "ready," great, I'm there. So: Do most mainstream apps (now) play nicely with 64-bit Linux? I can't help but notice the "AMD" in the ISO image filename ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso and I know AMD lead the way on this stuff — does Ubuntu 64-bit play nicely with Intel processors? Just generally, would you recommend one or the other? (And if anyone has any experience with Ubuntu specifically on the D510 [32-bit or 64-bit] which might lead me one way or t'other, that would be useful.) Thanks in advance.

    We have test tools that require us to call SIP addresses like localhost:5061. I used to use SJPhone on Windows XP, and an older version of X-lite, which both worked fine, and didn't require the SIP phone to be registered with a SIP proxy. I have just upgraded to Windows 7 and SJPhone doesn't seem to work any more (see forum here for others with the problem) - it says "No sound input device / No sound output device" at startup. I have tried a range of other softphones (X-lite 3, X-lite 4, Zoiper, 3CX), but I can't seem to find any that will install on Windows 7 and will let me call a SIP address like localhost:5061. It might be that I just don't know how to configure these phones to do it...

  • Excel crashes when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer

    I have been running into some issues when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer, generally the first document or two will open fine but after that trying to open a file will cause Excel and Internet Explorer to crash to the desktop without any notifications being given. This doesn't happen for users who are running Excel 2007, but for users with Excel 2003 it may or may not happen to them. The files in question are Excel XML files and Internet Explorer 6 and Excel 2003 are being use. At this time it would not be possible to upgrade Internet Explorer, but it would be able to upgrade to Excel to version 2007 if that would resolve the issue. Overdue Update: We recently upgraded to Firefox at the office which has rendered this error a non-issue; however, it is still unresolved from the standpoint that we haven't been able to come up with an explanation to the issue. Since IE6 is still installed on the systems, a fix to the problem (or explanation of why it's happening) would be appreciated.

    I need to remove some malware from my computer. It is a trojan, and very annoying. It blocks access to Google and search sites. The trojan, with its name spelled out on each line cause it seems to block sites when i reference it in a url, is a r t (some text to mess it up) e m (more text i s First off, what is it, what does it do? Second, why can't I access google or yahoo or any other search sites at all? Third, can it be removed via McAffee? It says it quarantined it when I scanned I found a suspicious process "c"s"r"s"s".exe and it will not let me terminate it, and this is what Mcaffee says it is. Why on earth isn't Mcaffee getting rid of it? I even blocked internet access for this program. Thanks so much, I get kinda freaked out with things like this...   • Cheap dvr media server

    I would like to build a new computer to be used as a DVR and media server. I am thinking of using mythtv as the DVR software, but short of that decision I am completely open to suggestions. Requirements: Must be cheap. Must have low power consumption (since it will always be on). Should be quiet. Should be small. I'm really not sure where to start with this project, and am open to any hardware/software suggestions. Is it possible to build a small quiet and cheap system? *Keep in mind I am working on this project because I am tired of Cable rate increases, but I can't imagine living without a DVR so cost is very important and I would like the system to be sub $200.00.     I can't get access to a folder on our server and can't understand why. Perhaps someone will see what I'm overlooking... Trouble accessing /Library/Subdirectory/NextDirectory/ User joe can ssh to the server just fine and cd to /Library/Subdirectory/ however trying to cd into the next folder, NextDirectory, gives this error: -bash: cd: NextDirectory/: Permission denied both username joe & bill are members of the group admin and both can get INTO Subdirectory without any trouble... hostname:Library joe$ ls -l | grep Subdirectory drwxrwxr-x 3 bill admin 102 Jun 1 14:51 Subdirectory and from w/in the Subversion folder hostname:Subdirectory joe$ ls -l drwxrwx--- 5 root admin 170 Jun 1 22:19 NextDirectory bill can cd into NextDirectory but joe cannot!?! What am I overlooking? What tools do we have to troubleshoot this? thanks!

Is there any flag I can use on ipconfig to hide all virtual interfaces? Or is there some other way around this problem? Since they always say "Media disconnected" I suppose disabling could be an option, but if possible I'd rather not turn any functionality off. I just want to control what output I get from ipconfig. Also, I know these are related to IPv6 stuff. However, most of what I find on google merely states what these are, and that they're harmless - nothing about hiding/removing them.

    I recently discovered and fell in love with Roboform. In less than a week it's become indispensable. So far I've only seen Roboform's ability to fill out fields in web browsers and Windows GUI apps. I'm an app developer and sometimes I need to use Telnet/SSH. My SSH client of choice is PuTTY, but I can't find any way to integrate Roboform with PuTTY. Is this possible? If not, is there another [free] SSH client that will work with Roboform?

The problem is that when i look at my computer's display it is saying that I am using the intel graphics that came with my CPU. Is there a way that i can get the Radeon graphics to run instead? Also, I tried plugging a DVI cable into the graphics card itself and my monitor was unable to receieve the signal. Is there a reason to that?

  • Mac does not recognize wide screen

    I am using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 on my Mac mini, with Samsung monitor with default resolution 1360 x 768. My Mac mini is connected to Samsung VGA port by Apple mini port to VGA adapter. When starting, my Mac does not recognize the wide screen resolution and always starts in a 4:3 mode, (but it shows 1360x768 as the resolution in the settings). I have to do one of the following actions to bring my Mac to the wide screen resolution: (1) Changing to some other resolution and bring back to the default resolution. (2) Unplug the Apple mini port to VGA adapter and re-connect again. (3) Put the machine to sleep and wake it up again. I am using Ubuntu 12.04, (in a different partition) in the same hardware, but Ubuntu is perfectly recognizing the display.

    I tried parsing a gigantic XML file and I ended up running out of virtual memory. The OS put all my applications on pause and gave me a screen to shutdown applications to free more space. I killed the XML parsing application and now have tons of space but I can't resume my paused applications anymore. What should I do?

  • MS SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel under Win7 x64 - steering works but force feedback not

    I just bought this second-hand ancient but professional steering wheel: Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel. I hooked it up to my Win7 x64 machine, it recognized it without installing anything, it did show up in the "Devices and Printers" section. Right-click - I could calibrate it, I could use it under Flatout2 right away. However, force feedback does not seem to work. The steering wheel has a force-button. If I set it using force feedback, it should lit up according to the manual (originally written for Win98). However, instead of lighting up, it blinks. The manual does not associate anything to blinking. I never used any game controllers before on any Windows. Is there a way to check/calibrate force feedback?

  • Microsoft Word 2007 opening all docs with field codes toggled off

    Recently, something changed with my Microsoft Word 2007 installation/preferences on Windows XP, such that whenever I open a word document, all the field codes are displayed raw instead of as their expanded value. For example, my header reads: My Name { TITLE \* MERGEFORMAT } Version { REVNUM \* MERGEFORMAT } But, if I copy and paste it here, it reads expanded: My Name My Doc Title Version 42 I expect to see the copy and paste version directly inside Word, I can work around this by right clicking on each such field and choosing toggle field codes, however, I never had to do that before, as previously, the document opened with all such field codes expanded. Another example is the Table of Contents which shows as: { TOC \o "1-3" \h \z \u } Instead of the full table of contents. I searched the word options dialog, but could not find anything that appeared relevant. Please suggest how to restore the old behavior.
