  This is a simplified example - I have two threads: Can JavaME and/Proguard ever reorder the obX = ... statements, such that thread_B will have a null pointer exception at ob2.someMethod? thread_A: Object ob1 = null; Object ob2 = null; ... ob1 = something1; ob2 = something2; thread_B: if (ob2 != null) { ob1.someMethod(); ... } P.S. I do realise that synchronising these will avoid the issue. Synchronisation has both a performance overhead, and more importantly, a chance to introduce deadlock.

  Hi there. I'm trying to use XSL-stylesheets in order to transform some generated XML-data to HTML-output. The architecture that I'm using is as follows: [Client Side] Web-Browser = [Server Side: Glassfish v3] JSP-pages - Web-Services. My web service generates some XML-data, then I want to format it with XSL-stylesheet, pass the result to JSP-page and show to user. I'm using JAXP for XSL-transformations and I want to create a javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource object with XSL-file stream for the javax.xml.transform.Transformer object, but I'm having a difficulty with specifying the path/URL for the XSL-file. So the question is: where should I put my XSL-stylesheets in a project and how should I access them from code? I'm using Glassfish v3 and NetBeans 6.8. Thanks.

  In BioPerl, a sequence object can have any number of features, and each of these can have subfeatures nested within them. For example, a feature may be a complete coding sequence of a gene, and its subfeatures might be individual exons that are concatenated to form the full coding sequence. However, when I use BioPerl to write a sequence object to a file in genbank or embl format, only the top-level features are written to the file, not the sub-features nested within the top-level features. How can I store my subfeatures in sequence files? Should I just convert all my subfeatures into top-level features, and then reconstruct the tree structure next time I read in the sequence?

• initWithCoder works, but init seems to be overwriting my objects properties?

  Hi guys, I've been trying to teach myself how to use the Archiving/Unarchiving methods of NSCoder, but I'm stumped. I have a Singleton class that I have defined with 8 NSInteger properties. I am trying to save this object to disk and then load from disk as needed. I've got the save part down and I have the load part down as well (according to NSLogs), but after my "initWithCoder:" method loads the object's properties appropriately, the "init" method runs and resets my object's properties back to zero. I'm probably missing something basic here, but would appreciate any help! • Getting error 2048 at whatever I'm doing in Eclipse

  Hi, whatever I'm doing in Eclipse, I get an error. At start up I get an error at Java tooling initializing. I get an error when I want to open a type. And it's always the same error. For example, when opening a type I get: An internal error occurred during: "Cache refresh". 2048 The error at the start up also prints the error code as 2048. I'm using the most up to date version of Eclipse. Do you know a way to fix this issue?

At first I thought that all magic in that example happened because of object being placed in $error by iteration implements __toString() but it seems no iterations happens at all...

I have no problem getting the other non-collection fields back.   I want to access a newspaper site and then download their epaper copies (in PDF). The site requires me to login using my email address and password and then it permits me to access those PDF URLs. I'm having trouble 'setting my session' in wget.   Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, but I want to keep a user object alive during all requests of the current user. From reading several resources I learned that you should create your own IPrinciple which holds this. But I don't want to trigger the database every authentication request. Any recommendations on how to handle this?   Hi, I am in the process or learning NHibernate so bare with me. I have an Order class and a Transaction class. Order has a one to many association with transaction. The transaction table in my database has a not null constraint on the OrderId foreign key. I am wondering if it's anything to do with the threads? But I wouldn't know how to solve it if it was. The complete exception thrown is: The object invoked has disconnected from its clients. • Entity Relationship Multiple 1:1's

  I have an application where I have a generic object (table) called Hull. Each hull in the table is unique. I have another object that has three hulls, but they are specifically the Port_Hull, Center_Hull and Starboard_Hull. Rather than create a One to Many relationship, I was trying to create a one to one relationship for each one, but this results in numerous errors unless I make the relationship from Hull to Vessel one to many (which it is not). Any idea how I go about this, or should I abandon the concept and make the vessel to hull relationship one to many and deal with lists that always have three entries? p.s. Using uniqueidentifiers as many users can be adding records while disconnected. Hull Table HullID uniqueidentifier (primary key) plus bunch of hull data fields Vessel Table VesselID uniqueidentifier (primary key) MainHullID uniqueidentifier (tried as key and non-key) PortHullID uniqueidentifier StarboardHullID uniqueidentifier plus bunch of Vessel data fields

• Can't seem to disable Java Automatic Update

  I'm just tweaking out my new Windows 7 laptop and wanted to disable the automatic Java updating (and thus kill the silly jusched.exe background process), but I can't seem to get it to actually turn it off. I found the Java Control Panel applet and found the settings on the Update tab that should control it. I can turn them off, apply them, and close the dialog successfully. But if I just open the dialog backup again right away, I see that the changes weren't actually made. I've tried it numerous times and it just doesn't take. What's up with that? I also tried to disable the icon in the system tray and got the same effect. Changing the size of the Temporary Internet Files cache work however. Any ideas? Thanks!

Now initially I inserted lots of person in company and the ids in person_ids fields is huge. Now I deleted most of person from company down to 8 people. Now I don't get why person_ids fields of Company object storing all the deleted ids of person.   Bit of an edge case, but any idea why &&= would behave this way? I'm using 1.9.2. obj = Object.new obj.instance_eval {@bar &&= @bar} # => nil, expected obj.instance_variables # => [], so obj has no @bar instance variable obj.instance_eval {@bar = @bar && @bar} # ostensibly the same as @bar &&= @bar obj.instance_variables # => [:@bar] # why would this version initialize @bar? For comparison, ||= initializes the instance variable to nil, as I'd expect: obj = Object.new obj.instance_eval {@foo ||= @foo} obj.instance_variables # => [:@foo], where @foo is set to nil Thanks!

• Best way to access database from android

  I am working on a Android app and I have a dilemma. I have a list of Objects. I have to update each of these objects with a database. I have 2 methods: Method 1: I can loop through the Objects. For each object I can connect to the server, update it, and then move on to the next Object, and so forth. Method 2: I can store the Objects in a list, send the whole list to the server, update it on the server side, then return a list of updated objects. My questions are: Which method is faster? Which method is easier on the phone's battery? By the way, Method 1 is easier for me to code :). Thank you.
