• Process video (canon) mov files

  Well i would like to program something to process HDR made by magic lantern a canon add on. That doesnt change the format its just some kind of add on, that can produce HDR video. Its a bit complex to make such videos so i would like to use some math and make it myself and makee the software freeware (as a thanks to the creators of magic lantern). The problem with that HDR that normal converts have a lot of artifacts, and i would like to make something (for free) using some new algorithms. I have made, this works fine on individual images, my ideas work. I would want to do this on that canon 60d video format. Canons mov format, and am so far out of luck to read that out. It must be possible dough as i know in some projects they do it too. I would not like to export a movie first to jpg and then back to video as that requires a lot of disk space, i would like to retrieve individual frames, do my math based multiple frames, and then build a new movie on it. The output video can be of any type, avi or mov again. Does anyone know of a library who can do that ? (read and save), So i could use it in a C# project (i prefer C# above c++, but c++ is an option to program in to for me).

• JavaScript and callback nesting

  A lot of JavaScript libraries (notably jQuery) use chaining, which allows the reduction of this: var foo = $(".foo"); foo.stop(); foo.show(); foo.animate({ top: 0 }); to this: $(".foo").stop().show().animate({ top: 0 }); With proper formatting, I think this is quite a nice syntactic capability. However, I often see a pattern which I don't particularly like, but appears to be a necessary evil in non-blocking models. This is the ever-present nesting of callback functions: $(".foo").animate({ top: 0, }, { callback: function () { $.ajax({ url: 'ajax.php', }, { callback: function () { ... } }); } }); And it never ends. Even though I love the ease non-blocking models provide, I hate the odd nesting of function literals it forces upon the programmer. I'm interesting in writing a small JS library as an exercise, and I'd love to find a better way to do this, but I don't know how it could be done without feeling hacky. Are there any projects out there that have resolved this problem before? And if not, what are the alternatives to this ugly, meaningless code structure?

• MacBook repeatedly disconnects from WiFi

  I have an early 2008-model MacBook (2.4GHz). The WiFi router I have at home is a Linksys WRT54GX2 that I have had for a few years. My MacBook has recently started disconnecting from the router every few minutes, which is rather annoying. I can reconnect again without having to restart the router or anything, as it seems that the MacBook is just dropping the connection. I have tried changing the channel on the router, and upgrading the laptop from Leopard to Snow Leopard made no difference either. I'm only about six feet from the linksys device, so distance isn't an issue. This only happens with the Linksys router, while I can use the local library's open network without issue. The problem also seemingly becomes more pronounced after midnight. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

• How to allow Mac OS X's native Apache/PHP installation to access WebServer directories?

  I have a problem bugging me with Mac OS X's native Apache/PHP installation. With my PHP scripts, I have to alter the file permissions on each folder I want to access. For example, in an upload script I would have to set the destination directory to 'read & write' for the group 'everyone'. However, I believe this is not the best practice and would like all of my directories to be readily writable to PHP. My scripts are stored in /Library/WebServer/Documents/, which is Mac OS X's default directory to serve web pages locally.

• Where does a Quick-Time powered application store changes to the user interface?

  I have downloaded an application written with the Quick Time library (for Windows 7). The application does not need an installation: just unzip it in a directory and run the program. It works, but I have a problem: the program allows the user to change a lot of values using its interface but does not have an option to reset them to their default values. What is more problematic is that when I exit the program and run it again, the interface still has the changed values. In the program directory there is no file that stores the changes done to the UI of the program. I suspect that Quick Time records these changes somewhere, but I can't find the right file. I have even deleted the application and re-unzipped it to another location - but the UI values still remain the same values changed by me!

• wordpress makes duplicate images of different size

  I have a wordpress website. I upload my pictures to the media library. And when I import a picture in a post, you get the options, one of which ask you what size to display it in. And doing this results in creating a new image file that is a different size, rather than wordpress using html to control the size of the image. • How to migrate Lotus Notes Mail in database to Exchange public folder?

  I need to migrate a Lotus Notes Mail database to Exchange. In the past, Users get mails in their Notes mail accounts and sort them manually by drag and drop in a specific folder structure in a seperate Notes mail database. This should be mapped to Exchange. I considered using outlook and a sharepoint Library mapped to outlook, but Outlook does not support drag and drop from the mail account to a standard doclib and the discussion libs do not support folders. So I think it's the easiest way to use an Exchange public folder instead of a sharepoint lib, which should work as in Notes (correct me if I'm wrong). But how I do migrate the old Notes db to the public folder including all subfolders? Thank you!

• Open Directory authenticated bind succeeds, but creates incomplete record

  I have about a dozen Macs running 10.6.7 or 10.6.8, which are all failing to bind properly to my new 10.7.4 Server OD. I can bind them just fine via Directory Utility or dsconfigldap, and it reports success. However, when I look at the record, it is failing to write the MAC address. Even if I manually update the record with the MAC address, MCX doesn't do anything and clients can't log in to OD accounts. All of the affected clients have hundreds of lines in the /Library/Logs/DirectoryService.error.log like so: 2012-09-15 22:23:18 EDT - T[0x00007FFF70292CC0] - GetMACAddress returned 0x *** bad control string *** 8x I do know that all of these clients were previously managed with the Guest computer account, and I also know that they were all imaged with a DeployStudio image when they were purchased. I've tried dscacheutil -flushcache, but after that I'm drawing a blank. Google has a few hits, but nothing very helpful. Re-imaging would be ideal but probably isn't going to happen. Anyone come across this before?

• When adding second processor to SQL Server, will it automatically balance the load?

  We have a SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.5) on a dedicated box with a single 2.4Ghz processor, which regularly runs at 70-80% CPU. We are going to be adding a significant number of users to the application and therefore want to add a second processor to the box (scale up). Will SQL Server automatically use the second processor to balance threads, or is there additional configuration that will need to be done? In other words, will adding the second processor drop my CPU usage to 35-40% per CPU, automatically balancing the load? Based on what I read here, it seems that it will: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181007.aspx However, I've read elsewhere that CPU performance gains can be made by assigning database tables to different filegroups, but I'm not sure we want to get that complicated at this point.

• Can GnomeKeyring store passwords unencrypted?

  I have a Fedora 15 laptop with the root and home partitions encrypted using LUKS. When it boots I have to enter a pass phrase to unlock the master key, so I have it configured to automatically log me in to my account. However, GnomeKeyring remains locked, so I have to enter another pass phrase for that. This is unpleasant and completely pointless since the entire disk is encrypted. I've not been able to find a way to configure GnomeKeyring to store its pass phrases without encryption. For example, I was not able to find an answer here: http://library.gnome.org/users/seahorse-plugins/stable/index.html.en Is there a solution? If not, is there a mailing list where it would be appropriate to plead my case?

• Solaris: What is the difference between .so and .so.1 files?

  I am trying to understand how/why certain library files are dynamically loaded by the linker on Solaris. I am using ldd to see this (with the -s switch to see what paths are tried by the linker). As an example, if I run "ldd /usr/local/bin/isql -s" I notice that one of the libraries that is searched for is called "libodbc.so.1". I notice that this does NOT match a file it finds along the way called "libodbc.so". So, it finally resolves to a place where there is a symbolic link between "libodbc.so.1.0.0" and "libodbc.so.1". My question is - what is the significance of the ".1" here? Is it to indicate a version number? Why do some installers create these symbolic links, while others don't?

  I've writing a date-time library, and need to implement the addition of a duration to a date-time. If I add a 1 month duration: P1M to the 31st March 2012: 2012-03-31, does the standard define what the result is? Because the resulting date (31st April) does not exist, there are at least two options: Fall back to the last day of the resulting month. This is the approach currently taken by the ThreeTen API, the (alpha) reference implementation of JSR-310: ZonedDateTime date = ZonedDateTime.parse("2012-03-31T00:00:00Z"); Period duration = Period.parse("P1M"); System.out.println(date.plus(duration).toString()); // 2012-04-30T00:00Z Carry the extra day to the next month.   i followed this tutorial http://library.linode.com/email/exim/send-only-mta-debian-6-squeeze?format=print When i got to the end, i sent the email to [email protected]. I didnt receive it. I didnt get spam either, i got nothing. I also didnt get an error message on the console. How do i properly sent up a smtp server and send an email from it? I'll not i am testing this on my VM on my local computer. My ISP doesnt block any traffic whatsoever (which is one reason why i use them) so... what can i do? i also tried this tutorial

• How do I keep user input and rendering independent of the implementation environment?

  I'm writing a Tetris clone in JavaScript. I have a fair amount of experience in programming in general, but am rather new to game development. I want to separate the core game code from the code that would tie it to one environment, such as the browser. My quick thoughts led me to having the rendering and input functions external to my main game object. I could pass the current game state to the rendering method, which could render using canvas, elements, text, etc. I could also map input to certain game input events, such as move piece left, rotate piece clockwise, etc. I am having trouble designing how this should be implemented in my object. Should I pass references to functions that the main object will use to render and process user input? • Easy way to reload multiple applications under a single IIS Website after AppPool Recycle?

  I'm not sure where to begin or even if my thinking is in the right direction. Hopefully someone here can tell me what to do or at least give me a direction to start travelling. I work on a Intranet Website, that contains multiple MVC3 and Coldfusion Applications. I have set the AppPool to Recycle every morning at 2:00 AM. Now, I would like to create a Scheduled Task to reload every application contained under that IIS Website so that when the first user comes in in the morning, they don't have to wait 30 seconds to 2minutes for their application to be reloaded into the IIS AppPool. Is there an easy to to do this? As I see it my only options are: Writing a bash script, inserting each website manually to load Writing a program that would try to find every application and load them Now, if there those are my only options, is there possibly a .NET Library I can tap into that would allow me to easily find the MVC3 Applications under IIS?

  I’ve been looking at various asynchronous resource-loaders and I’m not sure which one to use yet. Where I work we have disparate group-efforts whose class-modules may use different versions of jQuery (etc). As such, nested dependencies may differ, as well. I have no control over this, so this means I need to dynamically load resources which may use alternate versions of the same library. As such, here are my requirements: Load JavaScript and CSS resource files asynchronously. Manage dependency-order and nested-dependencies across versions. Detect if a resource is already loaded. Must allow for cross-domain loading (CDN's) (optional) Allow us to unload a resource. I’ve been looking at: Curl RequireJS JavaScriptMVC LABjs I might be able to fake these requirements myself by loading versions into properly-namespaced variables & using an array to track what is already loaded...but (hopefully) someone has already invented this. So my questions are: Which ones do you use? And why? Are there others that my satisfy my requirements fully? Which do you find most eloquent and easiest to work with? And why?

• Is there a chroot build script somewhere?

  I am about to develop a little script to gather information for a chroot-jail. In my case this looks (at the first glance) pretty simple: The application has a clean rpm-install and did install almost all files into a sub-directory of /opt. My idea is: Do a find of all binaries Check their library-dependencies Record the results into a list Do a rsync of that list into the chroot-target-directory before startup of the application Now I wonder - ist there any script around that already does such a job (perl/bash/python)? So far I found only specialized solutions for single applications (like sftp-chroot). Update I see three close-votes for the reason "off topic". This is a question that arose because I have to install that ancient piece of software on a server at work. So if you still feel this is off-topic - leave a comment...

• Cross-platform builds with OGRE3D via CMake. Any tips?

  I've been trying to compile a simple project for both OSX and Windows platforms, using OGRE3D, but I've got some problems on the way. I'm using CMake to create my platform specific project files (VS solution & Xcode project). Some problems I found are: OGRE3D source is distributed in 2 flavors, Windows sources and UNIX/OSX sources. In OSX, compiling dependencies (freetype, FreeImage and specially OIS) is such a pain. I don't know how to handle precompiled dependencies (they exist for both Win & Mac). May sound like a noob question, but I would appreciate some tips on this. Resources, forum posts, anything. There exists any "cross-platform base project for OGRE3D" on the net? Would be really helpful if someone who already managed to do this can bring some light. Btw, I'm not basing the project on OGRE3D, it's just that is the biggest library I'm probably using, so I depend a lot on it. Thanks in advantage!

• Wifi interface changes name seemingly at random

  I'm currently having some issues getting a wireless interface to work continuously under an install of Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. Some of the issues I'm experiencing include Connection will drop out after some time after it has initially worked. Interface will be a different name after a reboot. For example, wlan0 will become wlan4 when using the ifconfig -a command. Ubuntu will take a long time to boot, looking for network adapters. The purpose of this build is to function as a web kiosk in a library. The computer is supposed to boot up into a web browser, and allow for browsing of the catalog. For some reason this interface does not appear to be working as it should. Are there any explanations for some of these problems I'm having, and perhaps some solutions? The wireless card appears as this after doing an lspci ... Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI In the /etc/network/interfaces file I have the following configuration for the interface. auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp wireless-essid UDwireless wireless-mode Managed Thanks in advance for help on this.

• Can my machine run Ubuntu( kubuntu | xubuntu | mint ) 12.04 WELL?

  I have a 9 year old computer packing the hardware listed below. My question is, can I run 12.04 ( Ubuntu, Kubuntu, MINT or Xubuntu ) WELL? I was running Ubuntu 10.10 and I upgraded to 12.04 by going through each release via the update manager: 11.04 - 11.10 -12.04 During the installation process for 12.04 I saw an error message that there was an error installing and setting up part of the kernel. Later, when I tried installing a package in synaptic, I got another error message mentioning the kernel. When I rebooted, I got told somehting about my video and graphics was not configured properly and that I would have to do it manually ( like I know ). It gave me the option to enter the system in low graphics mode, but it just hanged. I had an old livecd of Xubuntu 10.10 around so I used that to get into my computer and copy data over to an external hard drive. I think tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 from the livecd, with the option "download updates" checked. The install process moved along a bit, then halted for about 5 hours. I rebooted my machine and tried the Xubuntu 10.10 installer WITHOUT the option to "download updates". The install completed in about 15 minutes. So, all of that is making me wonder if there is someting about 12.04 that does not like my hardware. I'm willing to try again, but only if I know I will not have to spend hours just to get to an error message and a hosed up system like I did last night. I also think I have a lot more RAM than is being reported in the output below. I had extra ram installed last year. I'm not good with the command line readouts, but there seems like there should be a lot more. I wasn't thrilled with Unity. I am willing to try Kubuntu 12.04. Will I run into the same problems? What is the highest version of a *ubuntu can I upgrade to? • Sound not working with Ubuntu 12.10 clean install

  Did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.10 from 12.04 and the sound is not working now. In 12.04 it worked out of the box. I ran hwinfo --sound > hal.1: read hal dataprocess 4222: arguments to dbus_move_error() were incorrect, assertion "(dest) == NULL || !dbus_error_is_set ((dest))" failed in file ../../dbus/dbus-errors.c line 282. • Draw "vision cone" / targetting element onto game world

  I'm wanting to indicate various things using a "pie slice" sort of shape as below. Similar to vision cones in stealth game minimaps, or targetting indicators in RTS type games for frontal area attacks. Something generic enough to be used for both would be ideal. I need to be able to procedurally (and efficiently) change things like the slice width and length, color, transparency, position in the world, etc. For my particular situation, there's no concern with elevation, funky terrain, or really any third axis at all as far as this element is concerned. I have two first inclinations on how to accomplish this: 1) Manually generate the vertices for a main triangle, (possibly two, superimposed to get the border effect), a handful more to approximate the arc at the end, and roll it into a mesh. 2) Use some sort of 2D drawing library to create a circle and mask it off at the right angles, render to texture, and use that. For reference, I have some experience with Ogre3D, but I'm not attached to it as this is a mostly academic pursuit at the moment. Other technologies that might be better at accomplishing this are more than welcome. Finally, I'm kind of curious about how to do a "flashlight" or similar 3D effect that could produce the same result, but on all surfaces in the lit area.

• REST API wrapper - class design for 'lite' object responses

  I am writing a class library to serve as a managed .NET wrapper over a REST API. I'm very new to OOP, and this task is an ideal opportunity for me to learn some OOP concepts in a real-life situation that makes sense to me. Some of the key resources/objects that the API returns are returned with different levels of detail depending on whether the request is for a single instance, a list, or part of a "search all resources" response. This is obviously a good design for the REST API itself, so that full objects aren't returned (thus increasing the size of the response and therefore the time taken to respond) unless they're needed. So, to be clear: .../car/1234.json returns the full Car object for 1234, all its properties like colour, make, model, year, engine_size, etc. Let's call this full. .../cars.json returns a list of Car objects, but only with a subset of the properties returned by .../car/1234.json. Let's call this lite. ...search.json returns, among other things, a list of car objects, but with minimal properties (only ID, make and model). Let's call this lite-lite. I want to know what the pros and cons of each of the following possible designs are, and whether there is a better design that I haven't covered: Create a Car class that models the lite-lite properties, and then have each of the more detailed responses inherit and extend this class. Create separate CarFull, CarLite and CarLiteLite classes corresponding to each of the responses. Create a single Car class that contains (nullable?) properties for the full response, and create constructors for each of the responses which populate it to the extent possible (and maybe include a property that returns the response type from which the instance was created). I expect among other things there will be use cases for consumers of the wrapper where they will want to iterate through lists of Cars, regardless of which response type they were created from, such that the three response types can contribute to the same list. Happy to be pointed to good resources on this sort of thing, and/or even told the name of the concept I'm describing so I can better target my research.
