• Delphi - Create form behind another form.

  Hi guys, I'm using Delphi 4. I have a main form with a button that dynamically creates a new form. I'd like the new form to be visible, but shows up BEHIND the main form. I've tried calling SendToBack() immediately after FormCreate(). But that makes the window flicker quickly before it's actually sent to back. I've tried making the form invisible, then SentToBack(), then Visible := true. But the new form is still at the front. SendToBack() doesn't seem to work on invisible forms?? Any suggestions? Thanks!

• ListView not showing up in fragment

  When I insert a listview in a fragment in my application, it doesn't show up after I populate it with items. In fact, the application crashes due to a NullPointerException. Can anybody help me? • [R] multiple functions in one R script

  Hi, I guess it's a stupid question, but I don't get it :-( I wrote an R script, which creates heatmaps out of xls files. I am calling this R script with a Perl system call and pass over all the arguments. This all works fine. Now I wanted to make the R script less confusing by writing different functions in the R script, for example: args <- commandArgs(TRUE) parsexls <- function(filepath) { data <- read.xls(...) assign("data", data, globalenv()) } reorder <- function(var) { data <- data[order...] assign("data", data, globalenv()) } When I want to call the functions with parsexls(args[1]) reorder(args[2]) nothing happens. But when I place the parsexls(args[1]) in the script between the two functions shown above, the file is parsed correctly! The reorder(args[2]) seems never to be read. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? • How to update control state in asp.net/ajax?

  I'm trying to update certain controls according to a selection in a dropdown list. For example, in the "selectedIndexChanged" event of a dropDownList, if a user selects the value "sport-car" the text box "payload" is disabled and the textbox "max speed" is enabled. private sub dropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(byval sender as object, byval e as eventargs) handles dropDownList1.SelectedIndexChanged If dropDownList1.selectedValue = "sport-car" then textBox_payLoad.enabled = false textBox_maxSpeed.enabled = true end if end sub When I'm doing something like this, the controls aren't enabled/disabled, even the event (wich I've added a breakpoint) seems not to be raised (sometimes several time after it is raised). Also, when the instructions in the condition is executed, nothing changes. What am I doing wrong? Maybe this is a very easy issue, but I'm a begginer in MS Visual Web Developer.

  Hi, iam looking for a datagrid which contains objects from my class. class user { string name; int ID; ... } i tried AutoGenerateColumns = true. this will add columns (name, ID, ... like the properties of my class) but i want a different design. not all attributes from the object shold be shown and the columnheader shouldn't be generated from the variablenames... if i build a custom. column-design, i cant add my objects / they will not be displayed. is it possible to define my own columns according to my objects/class. i read about databindings, but i have no idea how i can bind objects/classes in WPF. (in Visual Studio i cant choose my class as datacontext)

• Random number within a range based on a normal distribution

  I'm math challenged today :( I want to generate random numbers with a range (n to m, eg 100 to 150), but instead of purely random I want the results to be based on the normal distribution. By this I mean that in general I want the numbers "clustered" around 125. I've found this random number package that seems to have a lot of what I need: http://beta.codeproject.com/KB/recipes/Random.aspx It supports a variety of random generators (include mersiene twister) and can apply the generator to a distribution. But I'm confused... if I use a normal distribution generator the random numbers are from roughly -6 to +8 (apparently the true range is float.min to float.max). How do a scale that to my required range?

• iPad doesn't trigger resize event going from vertical to horizontal?

  Has anyone noticed this behavior? I'm trying to write a script that will trigger upon a resize. It works fine on normal browsers, works fine on iPhone, but on iPad, will only trigger going from horizontal to vertical viewport, not vice versa.   I've only discovered a month ago the folly of directly accessing entities / models from the data access layer of an n-tier app. After reading about ViewModels while studying ASP.NET MVC, I've come to understand that to make a truly extensible application the model that the UI layer interacts with must be different from the one that the Data Access layer has access to. But what about the Business layer? Should I have a different set of models for my business layer as well? For true separation of concern, should I have a specific set of models that are relevant only to my business layer so as not to mess around with any entities (possibly generated by for example, the entity framework, or EJB) in the DAL or would that be overkill?

• Max number of web methods?

  Guys I have a web service in asp.net 2.0 that has 234 methods. It seems that when I add another method the site does not compile in VS2005 until I remove one first. I get a message saying that the new method I just added does not exist in a file that belongs in the Microsoft.Net/.../Temporary Files directory. I have restarted IIS, closed down VS2005, removed all files from this temp directory but to no avail. The only way to get the code to compile is to remove another one so as to keep 234 methods.... I can consistency replicate this behaviour so it cannot be my code. Now I know this seems strange but it is true! One other strange thing is that exactly 100 of the method names begin with the word GetXXXyyyZZZ Has anyone else experienced problems with the maximum number of methods that are allowed in a web service?   I have a hierarchical data structure which I'm displaying in a webpage as a treeview. I want to data to be ordered to first show nodes ordered alphabetically which have no children, then under these nodes ordered alphabetically which have children. Currently I'm ordering all nodes in one group, which means nodes with children appear next to nodes with no children. I'm using a recursive method to build up the treeview, which has this LINQ code at it's heart: var filteredCategory = from c in category orderby c.Name ascending where c.ParentCategoryId == parentCategoryId && c.Active == true select c; So this is the orderby statement I want to enhance. • Rails ActiveRecord- has_many through and belongs_to a related model

  I have 3 models sites, user_favorites and users. Relevant relationships: class Site < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users, :through => :user_favorites class UserFavorite < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user, :counter_cache => true belongs_to :site end class User < ActiveRecord:Base has_many :user_favorites has_many :sites, :through => :user_favorites All of that works just fine. I'd like to add a new attribute to the Site model to indicate which user created it. I don't believe this constitutes a has_and_belongs_to_many scenario. A site has many users through user_favorites but I want it to belong to a single user reflecting the owner/creator. I'm wondering what the ORM best practice is for this. SQL wise I'd just use different joins depending on what I was trying to query with a created_by FK in Site. Sorry if I'm missing something basic here. Thanks

• Load a bitmap from file in RGB format (without alpha)

  Hi, i simply want to load a .BMP file and get the Bitmap object in 24bit RGB format (or 32bit in RGB format). All methods I tried return a Bitmap/Image object with PixelFormat = Format32bppArgb. Even if of course BMPs don't have alpha. new Bitmap(System.Drawing.Image.FromFile(fileName, true)); new Bitmap(fileName); I currently solve the problem by copying the first object to another in memory bitmap at 24bit RBG. Is there a single method to do it? Thanks

  We have setup a .net application developed with .net framework 4.0 using MVC framework and WCF service on a Windows 2003, 32-bit server containing IIS 6 successfully. However, when the same application is set up on a Win 2008 R2, 64-bit server, we get the following error when the application is accessing the WCF service: No component for supporting the service was found Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: Castle.MicroKernel.ComponentNotFoundException: No component for supporting the service was found We have set the flag for Enable 32-bit apps in "Application Pool" to true on the 64-bit server.

• WPF with code only

  I've seen a lot of questions about the merits of WPF here, and essentially every answer says it's the bee's knees, but essentially every answer also talks about things like XAML, in many cases graphic designers and Expression Blend etc. My question is, is it worth getting into WPF if you're a solo coder working in C# only? Specifically, I don't have a graphic designer, nor any great talent in that area myself; I don't use point-and-click tools; I write everything in C#, not XML. Winforms works fine in those conditions. Is the same true of WPF, or does it turn out that important functions can only be done in XAML, the default settings aren't intended for actual use and you have to have a graphic designer on the team to make things look good, etc., and somebody in my position would be better off to stick to Winforms?

• Closing a dialog form closes the application

When i close the dialog form the application is closed, not just the dialog form! If i invoke the dialog form in other form it works normally. The form from which i invoke the dialog form is top level, but even if i change that i'm getting the same result. Does anyone know what's wrong?

• Implement subitem in SQLite

  How could I implement a sub item where the item would have a parent to that of the same item. For example, I have a database that holds tasks/todos. Each todo has a title(TEXT), completed(INTEGER [1 if true, 0 if false]), and due date(TEXT) column. I would like to add functionality to have subtasks, where a task could possibly have a parent task. How would I implement this in SQLite for Android? NOT IN SQL! So no foreign keys (triggers are allow, though)! Could I just have a separate table (subtask) and have a foreign key trigger to link subtask(INTEGER parent) to task(INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT _id)? Or should I add a column to my original task table(INTEGER parent)? How could I implement this?
