    I'm a young engineer looking into different fields I can get into, and recently I've come across tons of FAE jobs (live in Japan) Another position is a service engineering position. My question is what's the difference between a Field appllication engineer and service engineer? (I hear that FAE job's require more sales and human interaction with pre-sales and post-sales support? And service engineers are basically highly specialized technicians that service broken equipment or something?) Appreciate any help

  • Error calling webservice from JQuery

    I have a strange problem when I'm trying to call a simple webservice method from Jquery. Locally it works fine, but on my test-server it does not. The jquery request looks like this (only showing the actual request and not the rest of the method): $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/Service/Service.asmx/AddTab", data: "tab=" + element.innerHTML, success: function(msg) { alert('success'); } }); When I run this locally from the test-server it works fine, which has me wondering if it could be some setting that I've missed in the IIS. If I navigate to the .asmx file and click the AddTab method I get a list of SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2 XML, but not the HTTP POST request. If I navigate to it locally I get all three (SOAP 1.1, SOAP 1.2 and HTTP Post) The service is set up as follows: [WebService(Namespace = "mynamespace")] [WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)] [System.ComponentModel.ToolboxItem(false)] [ScriptService()] public class Service : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod(EnableSession=true)] [ScriptMethod()] public void AddTab(string tab) { //Some code to add a tab which evidently works locally... } } Anyone have a clue what I'm missing here?

    How should I store an Java Enum in JavaDB? Should I try to map the enums to SMALLINT and keep the values in source code only? The embedded database is only used by a single application. Or should I just store the values as DECIMAL? None of these solutions feels good/robust for me. Is there any better alternatives?   • Why does Java's TreeSet not specify that its type parameter must extend Comparable?

    e.g. The code below throws a ClassCastException when the second Object is added to the TreeSet. Couldn't TreeSet have been written so that the type parameter can only be a Comparable type? i.e. TreeSet would not compile because Object is not Comparable.   • Invalid character in a Base-64 string when Concatenating and Url encoding a string

    I’m trying to write some encryption code that is passed through a Url. For the sake of the issue I’ve excluded the actual encryption of the data and just shown the code causing the problem. I take a salt value, convert it to a byte array and then convert that to a base64 string. This string I concatenate to another base64 string (which was previously a byte array). These two base64 strings are then Url encoded.     hi, i am having problem updating a blob with hibernate. my model have these getters/setters for hibernate, i.e. internally i deal with byte[] so any getter/setter convert the byte[] to blog. I can create an initial object without problem, but if I try to change the content of the blob, the database column is not updated.     I have the following IComparer defined for boxed RegistryItem objects: public class BoxedRegistryItemComparer : IComparer<object> { public int Compare(object left, object right) { RegistryItem leftReg = (RegistryItem)left; RegistryItem rightReg = (RegistryItem)right; return string.Compare(leftReg.Name, rightReg.Name); } } I want to use this to sort an ArrayList of boxed RegistryItems (It really should be a List<RegistryItem, but that's out of my control). ArrayList regItems = new ArrayList(); // fill up the list ... BoxedRegistryItemComparer comparer = new BoxedRegistryItemComparer(); ArrayList.sort(comparer); However, the last line gives the compiler error: "Cannot convert from BoxedRegistryItemComparer to System.Collections.IComparer". I would appreciate it if someone could point out my mistake.

    I am trying to add a custom activity designer for an activity that I have. The activity looks a little like: public class WaitForUserInputActvitiy : NativeActivity { public InArgument<UserInteractionProperty[]> UserInteraction { get; set; } } I am trying to put a designer on the activity to make it a bit nicer to set these values (so you don't end up typing VB in directly. My designer is based on mindscape property grid. I have an ObservableDictionary source that I want to get the values from and put them in to the InArgument. Currently I am using private void TestGrid_LostFocus(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { using (ModelEditingScope editingScope = this.ModelItem.BeginEdit()) { Argument myArg = Argument.Create(typeof(WaitForUserInputActvitiy), ArgumentDirection.In); this.ModelItem.Properties["UserInteraction"].SetValue(source.Values.ToArray()); editingScope.Complete(); } } However this results in an ArgumentException "Object of type UserInteractionProperty[] cannot be converted to InArgument`1[UserInteractionProperty[]]. So how do I convert my array of UserInteractionProperties into an InArgument?

    I'd like to use an object across AppDomains. For this I can use the [Serializeable] attribute: [Serializable] class MyClass { public string GetSomeString() { return "someString" } } Or subclass from MarshalByRefObject: class MyClass: MarshalByRefObject { public string GetSomeString() { return "someString" } } In both cases I can use the class like this: AppDomain appDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("AppDomain"); MyClass myObject = (MyClass)appDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap( typeof(MyClass).Assembly.FullName, typeof(MyClass).FullName); Console.WriteLine(myObject.GetSomeString()); Why do both approaches seem to have the same effect? What is the difference in both approaches? When should I favor the one approach over the other? EDIT: At the surface I know that there are differences between both mechanisms, but if someone jumped out of a bush and asked me the question I couldn't give him a proper answer. The questions are quite open questions. I hoped that someone can explain it better than I could do.

    I need to register a custom ELResolver for a Google App Engine project. Since it must be registered before any request is received, as specified by the Javadoc: It is illegal to register an ELResolver after the application has received any request from the client. If an attempt is made to register an ELResolver after that time, an IllegalStateException is thrown. I'm using a ServletContextListener: public class RegisterCustomELResolver implements ServletContextListener { @Override public void contextInitialized(ServletContextEvent sce) { ServletContext context = sce.getServletContext(); JspApplicationContext jspContext = JspFactory.getDefaultFactory().getJspApplicationContext(context); jspContext.addELResolver(new MyELResolver()); } ... } The problem is that JspFactory.getDefaultFactory() returns always null. I've alreay filled a bug report. Any idea for a workaround?

  • How do I improve the efficiency of the queries executed by this generic Linq-to-SQL data access clas

    Hi all, I have a class which provides generic access to LINQ to SQL entities, for example: class LinqProvider<T> //where T is a L2S entity class { DataContext context; public virtual IEnumerable<T> GetAll() { return context.GetTable<T>(); } public virtual T Single(Func<T, bool> condition) { return context.GetTable<T>().SingleOrDefault(condition); } } From the front end, both of these methods appear to work as you would expect. However, when I run a trace in SQL profiler, the Single method is executing what amounts to a SELECT * FROM [Table], and then returning the single entity that meets the given condition. Obviously this is inefficient, and is being caused by GetTable() returning all rows. My question is, how do I get the query executed by the Single() method to take the form SELECT * FROM [Table] WHERE [condition], rather than selecting all rows then filtering out all but one? Is it possible in this context? Any help appreciated, Lee

  • Finding the best folder for all users on a Windows machine

    We are making a game which will add a level editor feature soon. We want the user to be able to put levels he's downloaded in a folder and then play it in the game, without any hassle. So, we're looking for a folder that anybody can find, open, write, read, and is multiuser. On Windows Vista / 7, the folder /Users/Public/ look like a great candidate. However, It's not listed in the .net enum System.Environment.SpecialFolder. I have went through them all, and checked what they yield on different Windows versions, and none live up to my requirements. I did find Environment.SpecialFolder.CommonApplicationData, that kinda works, but that folder is hidden (C:\ProgramData) and I assume most users don't display hidden folders. As it stands now, it looks like we'll have to settle for the personal documents folder, but we'd really like a multi user folder? Anyone have any tips? (Hard coding c:\Users\Public\ is out of the question, it will only work on english systems)

That is, I would like to have some function like .format above which takes a format string specifying properties on some object, and an instance with those properties, and formats the string accordingly. Is it possible to do accomplish this feat in Java?

    I am trying to work with several projects on visual studio 2005. I have one project that depends on two others. I have included those two project in the first project solution, and set the dependencies correctly.
