• C functions invoked as threads - Linux userland program

  I'm writing a linux daemon in C which gets values from an ADC by SPI interface (ioctl). The SPI (spidev - userland) seems to be a bit unstable and freezes the daemon at random times. I need to have some better control of the calls to the functions getting the values, and I was thinking of making it as a thread which I could wait for to finish and get the return value and if it times out assume that it froze and kill it without this new thread taking down the daemon itself. Also I could do other things like resetting the ADC before restarting. Is this possible? • Autoconf -- including a static library (newbie)

  I am trying to migrate my application from manual build to autoconf, which is working very nicely so far. But I have one static library that I can't figure out how to integrate. That library will NOT be located in the usual library locations - the location of the binary (.a file) and header (.h file) will be given as a configure argument. (Notably, even if I move the .a file to /usr/lib or anywhere else I can think of, it still won't work.) It is also not named traditionally (it does not start with "lib" or "l"). Manual compilation is working with these (directory is not predictable - this is just an example): gcc ... -I/home/john/mystuff /home/john/mystuff/helper.a (Uh, I actually don't understand why the .a file is referenced directly, not with -L or anything. Yes, I have a half-baked understanding of building C programs.) So, in my configure.ac, I can use the relevant configure argument to successfully find the header (.h file) using AC_CHECK_HEADER. Inside the AC_CHECK_HEADER I then add the location to CPFLAGS and the #include of the header file in the actual C code picks it up nicely. Given a configure argument that has been put into $location and the name of the needed files are helper.h and helper.a (which are both in the same directory), here is what works so far: AC_CHECK_HEADER([$location/helper.h], [AC_DEFINE([HAVE_HELPER_H], [1], [found helper.h]) CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -I$location"]) Where I run into difficulties is getting the binary (.a file) linked in. No matter what I try, I always get an error about undefined references to the function calls for that library. I'm pretty sure it's a linkage issue, because I can fuss with the C code and make an intentional error in the function calls to that library which produces earlier errors that indicate that the function prototypes have been loaded and used to compile. I tried adding the location that contains the .a file to LDFLAGS and then doing a AC_CHECK_LIB but it is not found. Maybe my syntax is wrong, or maybe I'm missing something more fundamental, which would not be surprising since I'm a newbie and don't really know what I'm doing. Here is what I have tried: AC_CHECK_HEADER([$location/helper.h], [AC_DEFINE([HAVE_HELPER_H], [1], [found helper.h]) CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -I$location"; LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS -L$location"; AC_CHECK_LIB(helper)]) No dice. AC_CHECK_LIB is looking for -lhelper I guess (or libhelper?) so I'm not sure if that's a problem, so I tried this, too (omit AC_CHECK_LIB and include the .a directly in LDFLAGS), without luck: AC_CHECK_HEADER([$location/helper.h], [AC_DEFINE([HAVE_HELPER_H], [1], [found helper.h]) CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -I$location"; LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS -L$location/helper.a"]) To emulate the manual compilation, I tried removing the -L but that doesn't help: AC_CHECK_HEADER([$location/helper.h], [AC_DEFINE([HAVE_HELPER_H], [1], [found helper.h]) CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -I$location"; LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS $location/helper.a"]) I tried other combinations and permutations, but I think I might be missing something more fundamental....

• JQuery-tmpl Template Switching Not working.

  I'm trying to implement "more/less" functionality using the official jquery-tmpl plugin. I've looked at the examples, but I cannot seem to get the functionality to work in my own implementation. When I click on one of my "More" buttons, I seem to get an error thrown of: Uncaught TypeError: Property 'tmpl' of object #<an Object> is not a function This is my implementation here From what I can tell, the example I'm trying to replace is doing the following: Render the "Master" template On-click: Find the corresponding template object (tmplItem) to the clicked element. Pass in reference to a new template. Call the update function to re-render. Have I understood the documentation wrong? From what I can tell I'm doing the same thing as the example on the official documentation.

• Better exception for non-exhaustive patterns in case

  Is there a way to get GHCi to produce better exception messages when it finds at runtime that a call has produced value that does not match the function's pattern matching? It currently gives the line numbers of the function which produced the non-exhaustive pattern match which though helpful at times does require a round of debugging which at times I feel is doing the same set of things over and over. So before I tried to put together a solution I wanted to see if something else exists. An exception message that in addition to giving the line numbers shows what kind of call it attempted to make? Is this even possible?

How do I use the generic update_object to edit the other side of many-to-many link?

  Hey everyone, I am calling a JS function through the ExternalInterface using Flex which requires the absolute X and Y coordinates to create a pop-up menu. The Flex application is displayed on the center of an HTML page, therefore there is an HTML X and Y offset to consider. I have tried using the LocalToGlobal and ContentToGlobal functions, but these are just giving me the X and Y coordinates relative to the Flex application, it is not considering the HTML X and Y offset of having the Flex app in the center of the page or varying different screen resolutions. Is the best approach to retrieve the HTML X and Y offset using JavaScript? Is there a Flex function I can use that provides the absolute X and Y coordinates based on the HTML page? Thanks!

• jsonp cross domain only working in IE

  EDIT: At first I thought it wasn't working cross domain at all, now I realize it only works in IE I'm using jQuery to call a web service (ASP.NET .axmx), and trying to us jsonp so that I can call it across different sites. Right now it is working ONLY in IE, but not in Firefox, Chrome, Safari. Also, in IE, a dialog pops up warning "This page is accessing information that is not under its control..." Any ideas? • Simaltaneous connections with PHP and SOAP?

  I'm new to using SOAP and understanding the utmost basics of it. I create a client resource/connection, I then run some queries in a loop and I'm done. The issue I am having is when I increase the iterations of the loop, ie: from 100 to 1000, it seems to run out of memory and drops an internal server error. How could I possibly run either a) multiple simaltaneous connections or b) create a connection, 100 iterations, close connection, create connection.. etc. "a)" looks to be the better option but I have no clue as to how to get it up and running whilst keeping memory (I assume opening and closing connections) at a minimum. • Is there a way to catch a MOUSE_UP Event over a static textfield in Flash?

  When the user presses the mouse, and releases it over a static textfield with selectable text, no MOUSE_UP event is fired - not on the stage and also nowhere else. I experienced this when using a scrollbar class on a movieclip with a nested static textfield. When the user drags the scroll handle and releases the mouse over the textfield, the dragging/scrolling is stuck. To test this, create a new AS3 fla file, place a static textfield somewhere, and put in some text. Make sure the selectable property is checked in the properties panel. Add this script to the timeline: import flash.events.* function down(event:Event):void { trace('down'); } function up(event:Event):void { trace('up'); } stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, down) stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, up) Now test the movie and click the mouse.   Hi all, I have a structure defined like so: typedef struct { int n; int *n_p; void **list_pp; size_t rec_size; int n_buffs; size_t buff_size } fl_hdr_type; and in my code I Have a function for initlialization that has the following fl_hdr_type *fl_hdr; fl_hdr = malloc(sizeof(fl_hdr_type) + (buff_size_n * rec_size_n)); where those buffer size are passed in to the function to allow space for the buffers as well. The size is pretty small typically..100*50 or something like that..plenty of memory on this system to allocate it. Any ideas why this fails?

  I've written code that can make a phone dial a number from a function call, that's done and dusted. What I would like to achieve is adding a Dial button to each phone number field on the forms in Dynamics CRM. Eventually this could also create a new phone record fill in the basic details and show it to the user to enter notes and an outcome for the phone call, and perhaps some other workflow bits to schedule the next call. Can I put a custom control on a standard form in place of the standard control. I'm assuming it would have to be an IFrame to an asp.net page, that pulls in the record id, and the field name, looks up the number to show in a text box, and passes the number to the DialNumber function. Hey presto... I assume its not going to be that easy... Has anyone tried this before, what's the process, what are the gotchas?

  Is there a performance or code maintenance issue with using assert as part of the standard code instead of using it just for debugging purposes? Is assert x >= 0, 'x is less then zero' and better or worse then if x < 0: raise Exception, 'x is less then zero' Also, is there anyway to set a business rule like if x < 0 raise error that is always checked with out the try, except, finally so, if at anytime throughout the code x is < 0 an error is raised, like if you set assert x < 0 at the start of a function, anywhere within the function where x becomes less then 0 an exception is raised?
