• Building a complex view with Three20 - resources?

  I'm using three20 for most of my iPhone app. One of the views I need to create is relatively complex. It needs a top bar (under the nav bar) with some controls and label, an image view below this bar (which occupies most of the body) and another bottom bar with more controls and labels (above the tab bar control). I don't have much UI experience - my only experience with anything UI is laying stuff out using CSS, etc on websites. Apple's online doc seems to assume that the reader knows a bunch about rectangles, layouts, frames, etc or is using InterfaceBuilder. And three20 isn't too well documented either. So my question is: Is it possible to design something like what I describe in IB and then still have a three20-based app use it? If so, any tips/pointers on how would be much appreciated. Can you point me to some documentation that explain how views/controls etc are rendered. I'm pretty sure I can figure it out if I find some decent explanation/tutorial for it.

• Offline iOS web app: loads my manifest, but doesn't work offline

  I'm writing a web app to be used offline on iOS. I've created a manifest, am serving it up as text/cache-manifest, and it usually works fine, when running inside Safari. If I add it as an app to my home screen, then turn on Airplane mode, it can't open the app at all -- I get an error and it offers to close the app. (I thought this was the entire purpose of an offline app!) When I load the app a first time when online, I can see in my logs that it's requesting every page listed in the manifest. If I turn off Airplane mode, and load the app, I can see the first file it's requesting is my main.html file (which is both listed in the manifest, and has the manifest=... attribute). It then requests the manifest, and all my other files, getting 200's for all (and 304's for anything requested a second time during this load). When I load the page in Chrome, and click around, the logs show the only thing it's trying to reach on the server is "/favicon.ico" (which is a 404, and which I don't think iOS Safari tries to load, anyway). All of the files listed in the manifest are valid and served without error. The Chrome inspector lists, under "APPLICATION CACHE", all the cached files I've listed which I expect. The entire set of files is about 50 KB, way under any limit on offline resources that I've found. Is this supposed to work, i.e., am I supposed to be able to create an offline iOS app using only HTML/CSS/JS? And where do I go about figuring out why it's failing to work offline? (Related but doesn't sound quite the same to me, since it's about Safari and not a standalone app: "Can't get a web app to work offline on iPod")

• Flex: View Stack Navigator

  Hi, I have a component mxml file in which i have a view stack, on click of a button i navigate to the first child, now i need to navigate to the second child during onclick of a button present in the second child. All the childs are component files included within the view stack. • Project Architecture For Enhancing Legacy project.

  I am working on legacy project. Now the situation demands project to be divided into parts. What strategy I should follow to do this task. Description: The legacy project (A) is fully functional web application with almost well defined layers. But now i need to extend the project to a further enhancement. This project usage maven as build tool. But it is used only for dependency managements only. (project exported to war form inside eclipse). The new enhancement needs me to add new data table, new UI(jsp, css, js and images). What should be my strategy to enhance to application. My proposed design. I am planing to create two new projects Project B : Main Enhancement works will done in this project. Will have all layers like service layer, dao layer and UI layer in itself. And will be a web application in itself. Project C : Extract some common model and service code form project-A and create this project. This project will be added as dependency to both the projects. If my this approach is okay! Then i presume there will be problem be problem in deployment. These two projects will demand to deploy separately(currently tomcat is used). But I must deploy these two projects as one war. So, i need to have a plan to change the web.xml entries to have configurations for both projects. This will comes with some more complexities with project. What should be my design for the project? Does my plan sounds good.

Why am I losing the fucntionality of the original base class at this level? Is it incorrect to add the element (button1) to the maskcontainer inside of the main.xaml? My end goal is to create a container that is reusable, but inherits all properties/methods that I've specified throughout the chain. Any help is appreciated.

• jQuery .load() and sub-pages

  Hi, I am not just a newbie with Javascript. I am developing a simple site to get my hands on web programming. The web site is simple and structure is like this: A simple ul/li/css based navigation menu Sub pages are loaded in "div" using jQuery, when ever user click appropriate menu item. Some of the sub-pages are using different jQuery based plugins such as LightWindow, jTip etc. The jQuery function that loads the sub-page is like this: function loadContent(htmlfile){ jQuery("#content").load(htmlfile); }; The menu items fires loadContent method like this: <li><a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="loadContent('overview.html');return false">overview</a></li> This loads a sub-page name "overview.html" inside the "div". That's it. Now this is working fine but some of the sub-pages using jQuery based plugins are not working well when loaded inside the "div". If you load them individually in the browser they are working fine. Based on above I have few qustions: Most of the plugins are based on jQuery and sub-pages are loaded inside the "index.html" using "loadContent" function. Do I have to call <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> on each and every sub-page? If a page is using a custom jQuery plugin, then where do I call it? In "index.html" or on the page where I am using it? I think what ever script you will call in "index.html", you don't to have call them again in any of the sub pages you are using. Am I right here? • Browser history back with scrollable div

  When I Jump to section 1 & 2 everything works fine, and the browsers I tested (IE8, FF3.6, Chrome 5.0.342.3) scrolls down to the respective anchor in the div. But when I press the browser history back button the div won't scroll back up. • Firefox reloading parent page in iframe when clicking named anchor

  My site has an iframe which is dynamically populated with html content. The html often contains named anchors, which work fine in IE/Chrome but in Firefox it reopens the entire page within the iframe. • Set the caret/cursor position to the end of the string value WPF textbox

  I am try to set the caret/cursor position to the end of the string value in my WPF textbox when I open my window for the first time. I use the FocusManager to set the focus on my textbox when my window opens. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas? • Websql to google maps markers

  I am busy with my web application for a school project. It has has two pages. The first page uploads the location(latitude and longitude), price, date and kind of fuel. It works and i saved it with websql.(see screenshot) Now i want to get everything out of the web database and put it as a marker on my google maps card. I have my own location already. But i dont know how to get everything from the database to the map as a marker. I'm using jquery mobile/html5/css/javascript only. • Flex: FileReference and Image unhandled IOErrorEvent

  The following code shows a button that allows you to select a file (should be an image) and display it into an image component. When I select an invalid image (e.g. a word document), I get the following error: "Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2124: Loaded file is an unknown type." I know I can pass a FileFilter to the FileReference:browse call, but that's beyond the point. My question is... • AStar in a specific case in C#

  Hello. To an intership, I have use the A* algorithm in the following case : the unit shape is a square of height and width of 1, we can travel from a zone represented by a rectangle from another, but we can't travel outside these predifined areas, we can go from a rectangle to another through a door, represented by a segment on corresponding square edge. Here are the 2 things I already did but which didn't satisfied my boss : 1 : I created the following classes : -a Door class which contains the location of the 2 separated squares and the door's orientation (top, left, bottom, right), -a Map class which contains a door list, a rectangle list representing the walkable areas and a 2D array representing the ground's squares (for additionnal infomations through an enumeration) - classes for the A* algorithm (node, AStar) 2 : -a MapCase class, which contains information about the case effect and doors through an enumeration (with [FLAGS] attribute set on, to be able to cummulate several information on each case) -a Map classes which only contains a 2D array of MapCase classes - the classes for the A* algorithm (still node an AStar). Since the 2 version is better than the first (less useless calculation, better map classes architecture), my boss is not still satisfied about my mapping classes architecture. The A* and node classes are good and easily mainainable, so I don't think I have to explain them deeper for now. So here is my asking : has somebody a good idea to implement the A* with the problem specification (rectangle walkable but with a square unit area, travelling through doors)? He said that a grid vision of the problem (so a 2D array) shouldn't be the correct way to solve the problem. I wish I've been clear while exposing my problem .. Thanks KiTe

  I have a bunch of elements like the following: <div class="droppableP" id="s-NSW" style="width:78px; height:63px; position: absolute; top: 223px; left: 532px;"> </div> They all have class droppableP but different id's obviously and I would like to factor the code in this script I am hacking on. The original script just has a specific selector for each of one of these divs, but the code is all alike except for the id it does things to, which is either the id of the parent or another div with a name that's related to it.   Hi, I have a list showing up when i click on button, the problem is that i want to hide the list whenever it loses focus i.e. user clicks anywhere on a page, but not on that list. How can i do this? Also, you can see how it should look at last.fm, where's list of profile settings (li.profileItem). • Problem with Binding Multiple Objects on WPF

  Hi, I'm developing a user control called SearchBox, that will act as a replacer for ComboBox for multiple records, as the performance in ComboBox is low for this scenario, but I'm having a big binding problem. I have a base control with a DependencyProperty called SelectedItem, and my SearchControl shows that control so that the user can select the record. The SearchControl also has a DependencyProperty called SelectedItem on it, and it is being updated when the user selects something on the base control, but the UI, wich has the SearchControl, is not being updated. I used a null converter so that I could see if the property was updating, but it's not. • WPF Image change source when button is disabled

  Hi, I'm trying to show a different image when the button is disabled. Should be easy with triggers, right?! For some reason, I have not been able to get the images to switch. I've tried setting triggers on both the image and button. What is wrong with what I have below? How can I change the image source when the button is enabled/disabled? Now what I need to do is: I want on the click that the image change for a loading element that is previously loaded in the page like this: <img id="loadingImage" src="../../Content/images/loader.gif" style="display: none;" alt="loading"/> And then when the load complete turn back the old button image, I ended with this code: function loader() { var $button = $('#myButton'); if (btnState == '1') { $button.find('img').hide(); $button.prepend($('#loadingImage')); $('#loadingImage').css({ 'display': 'inherit' }); btnState = '0'; } else { $button.find('img').hide(); $button.prepend($('#defaultImage')); $('#defaultImage').show(); btnState = '1'; } } This does the trick for ONE SINGLE button(since I pass its ID in the function) but, when I have for example a grid with a button on each line, I found inviable when managing a screen with many buttons do this for each of then. The main question is: How can I make this method general for all buttons/links on one specific class in the page? The goal is: Click a button, get the image and change it and stop(can be manual). I just don't wanna have to Hook ALL buttons.

• html5 vs flash - full comparison chart anywhere?

  So since Steve Jobs said Flash sucks and implied that HTML5 can do everything Flash can without the need for a Plugin, I keep hearing those exact words from a lot of People. I would really like to have a Chart somewhere (similar to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_layout_engines_%28HTML5%29#Form_elements_and_attributes ) that I can just show to those people. Showing all the little things that Flash can do right now, that HTML5/Ajax/CSS is not yet even thinking about. But of course also the things that HTML5 does better. I would like to see details compared like audio playback, realtime audio processing, byte level access, bitmap data manipulation, webcam access, binary sockets, stuff in the works such as P2P technology (adobe stratus) and all the stuff I don't know about myself. Ideally with examples of what can be accomplished with, lets say Binary Sockets (such as a POP3 client) because otherwise it won't mean a lot to non-programmers since they will just say "well we can do without Binary Sockets". And ideally with some current benchmarks and some examples of websites that use this technology. I've searched the web and am surprised not to find anything. So is there such a comparison somewhere? Or does anybody want to create this and post it to Wikipedia? ;-)

• Wrong getBounds() on LineScaleMode.NONE

  I have write a simple example that adds a canvas and draw a rectangle with stroke size 20 scale mode none. The problem is that if I call getBounds() first time I will get a correct result but after I call scale(); the getBounds() function will give me a wrong result. It will take in cosideration the stroke but stroke has scalemode to none and on the screen nothing happens but in the result I will have a x value smaller. "Hide" : "Show"); }); }); Instead of altering the text show I want to display a graphic, I want the grpahic to change based on the .toggle Current HMTL: <div id="wrapper"> LI ITEMS </div> <div class="help"> IMAGE </div> <div id="slider"> <a href="#">Hide</a> </div> I'd like to add two images into .slider, removing the <a>: <div id="slider"> <img class="show" title="Hide" alt="Hide" src="images/showbutton.png" /> <img class="hide" title="Hide" alt="Hide" src="images/hidebutton.png" /> </div> Perhaps I can use css to hide the 'hide' button, then switch that using jquery in some way? Any suggestions?

• Outlook style events calendar for project based on MVC framework

  I need large Calendar (not jQuery datepicker) with possibility to schedule events and show them on calendar. Calendar must support month/week/day views. It is very desirable for Calendar not to reload whole page when view changes (AJAX refresh). It must be easily customizable (CSS themes) and localizable. It should support drag & drop (for scheduled events). Such Calendar must be rendered on client side from JSON data snippet. I know there are too many requirements to find Calendar that matches them all but all they are important. I have found some free open source Calendar controls, but almost all are tightly tuned for ASP.NET but not MVC or have very "heavy" JavaScript codebase. Ideally i see it as jQuery extension but not server side ASP.NET control. The best ready-to-use solution I have found is FullCalendar by Adam Shaw (http://arshaw.com/fullcalendar/). It is jQuery plugin which source code I can change to fit my needs. If you can suggest some better existing solutions I'll be very appreciative.

  My goal is to become a good web developer. I'm interested in learning how to build complex websites as well as how to write web applications. I want skills that will enable me to write apps for <--insert hottest web trend here-- (Facebook & iphone apps for example) This is one of my goals as far as Tech. is concerned. I'd also like to have a brod knowledge of different areas of IT. I'm looking into majoring in "Computing & Security Technology". The program is offered by Drexel in conjunction with my CC. It's a 4 year degree. Can someone take a look @ the pdf below. Based on my goals of Web development & wanting a well rounding education in information technology, what do you think of the curriculum? How will I fare entering the job market with this degree? My goals here are a little different. I'd like to work for 2 to 3 companies over the course of 6-7 years. Working with and learning different areas of IT. I'd like to stay with a company an average of 2-3 years before moving on. My end goal is to go into business for myself (IT related). I appreciate any and all advice the community here can give me! :) Could someone also explain to me their interpretation of this major? thanks! P.S. I already know XHTML & CSS.
