As you can see I allow user to select multiple Items. I want to open on Submit button click as many popup windows as many Items he selected in a list. Each popUp window should open some url like www.example.com/test.php?id=OPTION_SELECTED . So for each of the selected options I ll get a pop up window whith different url. Please Help.

• Changing character encoding in MySQL, PHP scripts, HTML

  So, I have built on this system for quite some time, and it is currently outputting Latin1 (ISO-8859-1) to the web browser, and this is the components: MySQL - all data is stored with the Latin1 character set PHP - All PHP text files are stored on disk with Latin1 encoding HTML - The output has the http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" meta tag So, I'm trying to understand how the encoding of the different parts come into play in my workflow. If I open a PHP script and change its encoding within the text editor to UTF-8 and save it back to disk and reload the web browser, the text is all messed up - unless the text comes from the DB. If I change the encoding of the DB to UTF-8 and keep the PHP files in latin1 I have to use utf8_decode() for the data to display correctly. And if I change the HTML code the browser will read it incorrectly. So yeah, I realise that if I want to "upgrade" to UTF8, I have to update all three parts of this setup for it to work correctly, but since it's a huge system with some 180k lines of PHP code and millions of posts in a lot of databases/tables, I don't want to start something like this without understanding everything correctly. What haven't I thought about? What could mess this up beyond fixing? What are the procedures for changing the encoding of an entire MySQL installation and what's the easiest way to change the encoding of hundreds or thousands of PHP files on disk? The META tag is luckily added dynamically, so I'll change that in one place only :) Let me hear about your experiences with this.

  Problem: I have an address field from an Access database which has been converted to Sql Server 2005. This field has everything all in one field. I need to parse out the individual sections of the address into their appropriate fields in a normalized table. I need to do this for approximately 4,000 records and it needs to be repeatable.   I studied a lot but did not find any good answer. My problem is i am calculating beats per minute of song.I used Bass api for that, now problem is i am able to get bpm of a file which i have in my resource folder but i have to get bpm of all songs of iPod library. I am getting path of song from MPMediaItemPropertyAssetURL property of MpMediaItem but when passing this one in api api is saying stream cant load BASS_StreamCreateFile(). In my point of view i am not getting right path of song. How can we access valid path? Did any one access ipod library song with external api? Please help me . • Creating Emulated iSCSI Target in a Lab/Testing Environment using Windows Server 2008 R2

  We have a single server running Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V installed running 5 virtual machines. I have purchased a second DELL R805 Server so that we can create a fail-over cluster to our current R805 that is currently in production. Right now, our R805 connects via iSCSI to a MD3000i iSCSI SAN. Before we try to roll out the second server and clustering to our production environment, I want to be able to test and "play with" the clustering features in our lab before rolling it out. The problem is that I don't want to spend a couple thousand dollars on another iSCSI SAN server just for testing. I already have two servers in my lab that are installed with Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit (one is the R805 and another spare desktop that was laying around) and with the Hyper-V roll enabled that should be ready to test with, but I don't have an iSCSI target to use as the Cluster Shared Volume. Is there anyway to install, either on a Hyper-V image or on a external spare computer that we have some sort of emulated iSCSI target? In our lab, we obviously don't need a real SAN, just something that we can test out how to setup the clustering properly outside of our production environment. Any advise is appreciated. FYI - I have read Jose Barret's blog on WUDSS at http://blogs.technet.com/josebda/archive/2008/01/07/installing-the-evaluation-version-of-wudss-2003-refresh-and-the-microsoft-iscsi-software-target-version-3-1-on-a-vm.aspx, but it seems awfully complex. I'm hoping for an easier solution.

• Java OO design confusion: how to handle actions modified by states modified by actions...

  Hi folks, Given an entity, whose action is potentially modified by states (of the entity and other entities) in turn potentially modified by other actions (of the entity and other entities) , what is the best way to code or design to handle the potential existence of the modifiers? Speaking metaphorically, I am coding a Java application representing a piano. As you know a piano has keys (which, when pressed, emit sound) and pedals (which, when pressed, modify the keys' sounds). My base class structure is as follows: Entity (for keys and pedals) State (this holds each entity's states, e.g. name such as "soft pedal", and boolean "Pressed"), Action (this holds each entity's actions, e.g. play sound when pressed, or modify others sounds). By composition, the Entity class has a copy of each of State and Action inside it. e.g.: public class Entity { State entityState = new State(); Action entityAction = new Action(); Thus I have coded a "C-Sharp" key Entity. When I "press" that entity (set its "Pressed" state to true), its action plays a "C-Sharp" sound and then sets its "Pressed" state to false. At the same time, if the "C-Sharp" key entity is not "tuned", its sound deviates from "C-Sharp". Meanwhile I have coded a "soft pedal" Entity. When that entity is "pressed", no sound plays but its action is to make softer the sound of the "C-Sharp" and other key entities. I have also coded a "sustain pedal" Entity. When that entity is "pressed", no sound plays but its action is to enable reverberation of the sound of the "C-Sharp" and other key entities. Both the "soft" and "sustain pedals" can be pressed at the same time with the result that keys entities become both softened and reverberating. In short, I do not understand how to make this simultaneous series of states and actions modify each other in a sensible OO way. I am wary of coding a massive series of "if" statements or "switches". • movie does not start in full screen in flash video player

  We have this legacy code of a flash video player that functions well enough but still has some loose ends I need to tighten up. It can do the basic "switch to full screen and back to normal size" stunts, however with one exception. As I understand it everything is stored as a pointer so I did try adding an additional constructor that took a pointer to foo but to no avail.

  Hi there. what i am trying to do is to play a full screen(1024x768) animation on ipad with an fps of around 20. i have got a scene with 1800 full screen frames. till now i have tried a lot of approaches but have encountered a lot of problems. my first approach was to get the texture using the following function t = [[CCTexture2D alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"(%d)",startIndex] ofType:type]]]; give it to sprite by using setTexture method and then release the texture then create a new texture with next frame and repeat the procedure but by using this approach i only get an FPS of about 7. my second approach was to preload about 10 textures in texturecache save them in an array and give them to sprite using setTexture and on the back end i am replacing the old textures with the new texture in a thread but the problem i face is that creating new texture and adding to array takes some time and when the settexture method is called the sprite displays the old texture because the new one is not loaded yet but after some time new texture get loaded. Is there any way i can run a full screen animation on ipad at around 20 fps plesae help me out. Thanks Farhan

• Javascript library: to obfuscate or not to obfuscate - that is the question

  I need to write a GUI related javascript library. It will give my website a bit of an edge (in terms of functionality I can offer) - up until my competitors play with it long enough to figure out how to write it by themselves. I can accept the fact that it will be emulated over time - thats par for the course (its part of business). However, what I cannot bear, is the idea of effectively, simply handing over all the hard work that would have gone into the library to my competitors, by using plain javascript that anyone can download and use. It is an established fact that no none in the industry I am "attacking" has this functionality, so the value of such a library is undeniable and is not up for discussion (i.e. thats not what I'm asking here). What I am seeking to find out are the pros and cons of obfuscating a javascript library, so that I can come to a final decision. Two of my biggest concerns are debugging, and subtle errors that may be introduced by the obfuscator. I would like to know: How can I manage those risks (being able to debug faulty code, ensuring/minimizing against obfuscation errors) Are there any good quality industry standard obfuscators you can recommend (preferably something you use yourself). What are your experiences of using obfuscated code in a production environment?

• Replacing content with jquery.

  I am loading a movie into a overlay. My problem is that when I close the div overlay the movie continues to play. I do not control the code on the move side it is imported via a script tag which then opens in a iframe. I am able to remove the content of the of the div and then the movie stops playing. Then of course when the user opens the div again the movie is gone. My current thinking was that I could simply replace the script tag with one just like it but the outcome of that is that there is nothing there. I have been using jquery. • Floating Point Arithmetic - Modulo Operator on Double Type

  So I'm trying to figure out why the modulo operator is returning such a large unusual value. If I have the code: double result = 1.0d % 0.1d; it will give a result of 0.09999999999999995. I would expect a value of 0 Note this problem doesn't exist using the dividing operator - double result = 1.0d / 0.1d; will give a result of 10.0, meaning that the remainder should be 0. Let me be clear: I'm not surprised that an error exists, I'm surprised that the error is so darn large compared to the numbers at play. 0.0999 ~= 0.1 and 0.1 is on the same order of magnitude as 0.1d and only one order of magnitude away from 1.0d. Its not like you can compare it to a double.epsilon, or say "its equal if its < 0.00001 difference". I've read up on this topic on StackOverflow, in the following posts one two three, amongst others. Can anyone suggest explain why this error is so large? Any any suggestions to avoid running into the problems in the future (I know I could use decimal instead but I'm concerned about the performance of that).

  At first I was using this as an extension method to update my detached entities... Correct me if I am wrong but that is because "ApplyCurrentValues" only supports scalars. To get around this I was just saving the FK_ID field instead of the entity object relation. Now I am faced with a many to many relationship so its not that simple. I would like to do something like this... Dim Resource = RelatedResource.GetByID(item.Value) Condition.RelatedResources.Add(Resource) But when I call SaveChanges the added Resources aren't saved. I started to play around with self-tracking entities (not sure if they will help solve my prob) but it seems they cannot be serialized to ViewState and this is a requirement for me. I guess one solution would be to add the xRef table as an entity and add the fks myself but I would rather it just work how I expect it too. I am open to any suggestions on how to either save my many to many relationships or serialize self-tracking entities (if self-trackingwould even solve my problem). Thanks!

• Global Temporary Table "On commit delete rows" functionality discrepancy.

  I have a global temporary table. I called my GTT, for that was it's initials. My GTT never hurt anyone, and did everything I bade of it. I asked my GTT to delete rows on commit. This is a valid function in the creation script of my GTT in oracle. I wanted to be able to have different users see GTT with their own data, and not the data of other people's sessions. 'Delete rows on commit' worked perfectly in our test environment. GTT and I were happy. But then, I deployed GTT as part of an update to functionality to a client's database. The database doesn't like to play well with GTT. GTT called me up all upset and worried, because it wasn't holding any data any more, and didn't know why. GTT told me that if someone did: insert into my_GTT (description) values ('Happy happy joy joy') he would sing-song back: 1 row inserted. However, if the same person tried select * from my_GTT; GTT didn't know what to do, and he replied 0 rows returned. GTT was upset that he didn't know what his playmate had inserted. Please, Stackoverflow, why would GTT forget what was placed into him? He can remember perfectly well at home, but out in the cold harsh world, he just gets so scared. :(

• Disable Eclipse warning about generated html?

  When developing Flex projects, Eclipse gives warnings about the default index.html file generated by Flex Builder. The file is in the 'target' folder (or "generated artifacts" folder. Yes, I'm also using Maven). Can I eliminate or disable this warning? The code which generates the warning is below, though I would definitely prefer not changing the html - as I say this is the template suggested by Adobe. Eclipse warns of "Undefined attribute name (xxx)" for scroll on the body tag, and most of the embed attributes. • Web Shop Schema - Document Db

  I'd like to evaluate a document db, probably mongo db in an ASP.Net MVC web shop. A little reasoning at the beginning: There are about 2 million products. The product model would be pretty bad for rdbms as there'd be many different kinds of products with unique attributes. For example, there'd be books which have isbn, authors, title, pages etc as well as dvds with play time, directors, artists etc and quite a few more types. In the end, I'd have about 9 different products with a combined column count (counting common columns like title only once) of about 70 to 100 whereas each individual product has 15 columns at most. The three commonly used ways in RDBMS would be: EAV model which would have pretty bad performance characteristics and would make it either impractical or perform even worse if I'd like to display the author of a book in a list of different products (think start page, recommended products etc.). Ignore the column count and put it all in the product table: Although I deal with somewhat bigger databases (row wise), I don't have any experience with tables with more than 20 columns as far as performance is concered but I guess 100 columns would have some implications. Create a table for each product type: I personally don't like this approach as it complicates everything else. C# Driver / Classes: I'd like to use the NoRM driver and so far I think i'll try to create a product dto that contains all properties (grouped within detail classes like book details, except for those properties that should be displayed on list views etc.). In the app I'll use BookBehavior / DvdBehaviour which are wrappers around a product dto but only expose the revelent Properties. My questions now: Are my performance concerns with the many columns approach valid? Did I overlook something and there is a much better way to do it in an RDBMS? Is MongoDb on Windows stable enough? Does my approach with different behaviour wrappers make sense?

• Telerik window automatically opens after every page refresh

  I am using Telerik RadControls in my project and and have a menu where I have an 'About' button. When I click the 'About' button a window pops up describing the application. The problem is if I refresh the page or navigate to another page then back to the first page the window automatically pops up. • How does someone without a CS degree get an interview in a sluggish economy?

  I've been programming off and on since 4th grade (for about 20 years). Technology is one of my passions but after working in the field for a couple years out of High School, I spent nine months and $15,000 getting an accredited certificate in music performance instead of CS. I've been doing lots of self study but I think a CS degree is overkill for most line of business applications. Even so, HR departments can't be expected to know that... How does one get their foot in the proverbial door without a degree, especially in a smaller "fly-over country" market? ...or... Where can I get the cheapest/easiest degree that will pass muster (including testing out of as much as possible)? Don't get me wrong, I'm down with learning new things but I don't necessarily need the expense or coaching to motivate me. EDIT Consolidating good answers: Networking/User Groups Portfolio/Open Source Contributions Look for hybrid jobs (How I got my start :) ) Seek un-elitist companies/hiring managers. (Play the numbers game) Start my own business. (This is a bit challenging for a family man but a very good answer. My reason for searching is to reduce my commute thereby allowing more time to cultivate income on the side) Avail myself of political subsidies to constituents in the teachers' unions ;) .

• Change the playback rate of a track in real time on Android

  Hello, I would like to know if somebody knows a library to changing the playback rate of a track in real time. My idea is to load a track and change its playback rate to half or double. Firstly, I tried with MusicPlayer but is was not possible at all and then I tried with SoundPool. The problem is that with SoundPool I can´t change the rate once the track is loaded. • How to handle alpha in a manual "Overlay" blend operation?

  I'm playing with some manual (walk-the-pixels) image processing, and I'm recreating the standard "overlay" blend. I'm looking at the "Photoshop math" macros here: http://www.nathanm.com/photoshop-blending-math/ (See also here for more readable version of Overlay) Both source images are in fairly standard RGBA (8 bits each) format, as is the destination. When both images are fully opaque (alpha is 1.0), the result is blended correctly as expected: But if my "blend" layer (the top image) has transparency in it, I'm a little flummoxed as to how to factor that alpha into the blending equation correctly. I expect it to work such that transparent pixels in the blend layer have no effect on the result, opaque pixels in the blend layer do the overlay blend as normal, and semitransparent blend layer pixels have some scaled effect on the result. Can someone explain to me the blend equations or the concept behind doing this? Bonus points if you can help me do it such that the resulting image has correctly premultiplied alpha (which only comes into play for pixels that are not opaque in both layers, I think.) • Correct way to generate order numbers in SQL Server

  This question certainly applies to a much broader scope, but here it is. I have a basic ecommerce app, where users can, naturally enough, place orders. Said orders need to have a unique number, which I'm trying to generate right now. Each order is Vendor-specific. Basically, I have an OrderNumberInfo (VendorID, OrderNumber) table. Now whenever a customer places an order I need to increment OrderNumber for a particuar Vendor and return that value. Naturally, I don't want other processes to interfere with me, so I need to exclusively lock this row somehow: begin tranaction declare @n int select @n = OrderNumber from OrderNumberInfo where VendorID = @vendorID update OrderNumberInfo set OrderNumber = @n + 1 where OrderNumber = @n and VendorID = @vendorID commit transaction Now, I've read about select ... with (updlock rowlock), pessimistic locking, etc., but just cannot fit all this in a coherent picture: How do these hints play with SQL Server 2008s' snapshot isolation? Do they perform row-level, page-level or even table-level locks? How does this tolerate multiple users trying to generate numbers for a single Vendor? What isolation levels are appropriate here? And generally - what is the way to do such things?
