  • App is crashing as soon as UITableView gets reloaded

    - by OhhMee
    Hello, I'm developing an app where TableView needs to reload as soon as the login process gets completed. The app crashes with error EXC_BAD_ACCESS when the table data gets reloaded. It doesn't crash when I remove all case instances except case 0: What could be the reason behind it? Here's the code: - (void)viewDidLoad { [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(loginDone:) name:@"loginDone" object:nil]; statTableView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger) section { return 6; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; } // Configure the cell. switch (indexPath.row) { case 0 : cell.textLabel.text = @"Foo:"; NSLog(@"%@", data7); UILabel *myLabel2 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(200, 10, 20, 30)]; myLabel2.text = (@"%@", data7); myLabel2.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; myLabel2.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; myLabel2.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Trebuchet MS" size:14]; [cell.contentView addSubview:myLabel2]; break; case 1: cell.textLabel.text = @"Foo: "; UILabel *myLabel4 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(200, 10, 20, 30)]; myLabel4.text = (@"%@", data11); myLabel4.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; myLabel4.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; myLabel4.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Trebuchet MS" size:14]; [cell.contentView addSubview:myLabel4]; break; case 2: cell.textLabel.text = @"Foo: "; UILabel *myLabel8 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(200, 10, 20, 30)]; myLabel8.text = (@"%@", data3); myLabel8.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; myLabel8.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; myLabel8.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Trebuchet MS" size:14]; [cell.contentView addSubview:myLabel8]; break; case 3: cell.textLabel.text = @"Foo: "; UILabel *myLabel10 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(200, 10, 20, 30)]; myLabel10.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", data4]; if ([data4 isEqualToString:@"0"]) { myLabel10.text = @"None"; } myLabel10.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; myLabel10.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; myLabel10.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Trebuchet MS" size:14]; [cell.contentView addSubview:myLabel10]; break; case 4: cell.textLabel.text = @"Foo: "; UILabel *myLabel12 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(200, 10, 20, 30)]; myLabel12.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", data5]; myLabel12.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; if ([data5 isEqualToString:@"Foo"]) { myLabel12.textColor = [UIColor redColor]; myLabel12.text = @"Nil"; } myLabel12.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; myLabel12.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Trebuchet MS" size:14]; [cell.contentView addSubview:myLabel12]; break; case 5: cell.textLabel.text = @"Foo: "; UILabel *myLabel14 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(200, 10, 50, 30)]; if ([data6 isEqualToString:@"Foo"]) { myLabel14.textColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:(0/255.f) green:(100/255.f) blue:(0/255.f) alpha:1.0]; myLabel14.text = @"No Dues"; } else { myLabel14.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", data6]; myLabel14.textColor = [UIColor redColor]; } myLabel14.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; myLabel14.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Trebuchet MS" size:14]; [cell.contentView addSubview:myLabel14]; break; /* [myLabel2 release]; [myLabel4 release]; [myLabel8 release]; [myLabel10 release]; [myLabel12 release]; [myLabel14 release]; */ } return cell; }

  • Interface Builder only allows one button to be "touchable"

    - by STLMikey
I'm making a clone of the classic game simon, the memory matching game. My (iPad) app will load fine, i tap start, the game screen loads, and only one of my four buttons will respond to touch commands. To troubleshoot, I tried creating a second unrelated nib and just populating it with four buttons not linked to anything. However, only one of those four buttons would respond to touch! There are no IBActions being called, nothing. Both the view itself, and all four buttons are touch enabled in the inspector...I'm stumped. I'm moreso asking if anyone has encountered anything simillar, as I'd rather not burden potential help with app-specific questions if it's avoidable. Thank you!

  • MPMoviePlayerController playback problem

    - by Fahri
Hello all, I'm having trouble with playing audio stream using MPMoviePlayerController in the background. On the foreground it's playing the audio just fine, but when the application goes to the background, sound disappears and the time keeps going. I have initialized the AVAudioSession with AVAudioSessionCategoryPlayback and have put the required background modes to audio in info.plist file. Also I have set player.useApplicationAudioSession = YES;. What could be the possible problem here? Thanks in advance :)

  • Populate tableView with more than one array

    - by Ewoods
The short version: Is there a way to populate one specific row in a tableView with one value from one array, then populate another row in that same tableView with one value from a different array? For example, cell 1 would have the first value from Array A, cell 2 would have the first value from Array B, cell 3 would have the first value from Array C, etc. The long version: I hope this isn't too confusing. I've got an array of names, and then three more arrays with actions associated with those people. For example, the names array has Jim, Bob, and Sue, and then there's an array for eating, reading, and sleeping that records every time each person does one of these things (all of these arrays are populated from a MySQL database). The names array is used to populate a root tableView. Tapping on one of the names brings up a detail view controller that has another tableView that only has three rows. This part is all working fine. What I want to happen is when I tap on a name, it moves to the detail view and the three cells would then show the last event for that person for each of the three activities. Tapping on one of those three events then moves to a new view controller with a tableView that shows every event for that category. For example, if I tapped on Bob, the second page would show the last time Bob ate, read, and slept. Tapping on the first row would bring up a table that showed every time Bob has eaten. So far I've only been able to populate the second tableView with all of the rows from one of the arrays. I need it the other way around (one row from all of the arrays).

  • Problem with a NSString that equals to (null)

    - by Guy Dor
    Hi, I have an UIViewController named MainViewController I have another UIViewController named LeftSharingViewController; I would like to get and use the NSString from MainViewController in my LeftSharingViewController I have a problem, I always get (null) instead of the NSString wanted value. Here's my code and how does the NSString get it's value MainViewController: - (void)webViewDidFinishLoad:(UIWebView *)webView { leftWebViewString = [NSString stringWithString:leftWebView.request.URL.absoluteString]; } LeftSharingViewController.h: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "MainViewController.h" #import <MessageUI/MessageUI.h> #import <MessageUI/MFMailComposeViewController.h> @class MainViewController; @interface LeftSharingViewController : UIViewController <MFMailComposeViewControllerDelegate> { MainViewController *mainViewController; NSString *leftWebViewUrl; } @property (nonatomic, retain) MainViewController *mainViewController; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *leftWebViewUrl; @end LeftSharingViewController.m: #import "LeftSharingViewController.h" #import "MainViewController.h" @implementation LeftSharingViewController @synthesize mainViewController; @synthesize leftWebViewUrl; - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { self.leftWebViewUrl = self.mainViewController.leftWebViewString; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Compose Mail -(void)displayComposerSheet { MFMailComposeViewController *mailPicker = [[MFMailComposeViewController alloc] init]; mailPicker.mailComposeDelegate = self; [mailPicker setSubject:@"Check Out This Website!"]; [mailPicker setMessageBody:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Take a look at this site:%@", leftWebViewUrl] isHTML:YES]; mailPicker.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; [self presentModalViewController:mailPicker animated:YES]; [mailPicker release]; } Thanks!

  • How can i see if dealloc is being called on a uikit object, or any object not created by myself

    - by Gyozo Kudor
I think i have an UIImage that has a higher retain count than it should have and i am probably leaking memory. I use this image as a thumbnail, to set a custom background to a uibutton. So the uibutton is holding a reference to it and so do i. But instead of 2, the retainCount is 3. Do i have to create a custom UIImage derived class and override dealloc if I want to place a log message there and then change the class used from UIImage to my class, or is there an easier way. Thanks in advance.

  • How to achieve a hidden status bar using three20 framework

    - by Angelfilm Entertainment
I'm using the TTThumbsViewController section of the three20 framework, and I have the status bar hidden throughout my application. When the user views the full size image, taps the screen(hiding the controls), when they tap again the controls reappear but the status bar is there too. I've searched through the whole library and been unable to isolate the section where this is happening. I'd love it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks, BB

  • Can't return a String value and append it...why?

    - by squeezemylime
I am writing an app and am having problems returning a simple string value, and I'm not sure why. The function I am using (within a file called APIManager.m) is: - (NSString*) returnVenueUrl { NSString *venueUrl = [devEnvironment stringByAppendingString:@"venue/id/"]; return venueUrl; } I can return this properly by doing this in another .m file: APIManager *apiManager = [APIManager apiManager]; NSLog(@"view venue URL is here: %@", [apiManager returnVenueUrl]); But when I go to append a variable cast as a String onto it, I get nothing.. venueURL = [apiManager returnVenueUrl]; venueURL = [venueURL stringByAppendingString:venueId]; NSLog(@"the Full Venue URL is: %", venueURL); If anyone has any advice on how to fix this, it would be much appreciated!

  • When are dynamically loaded NIBs assigned frames and bounds data?

    - by thebossman
In one of my UIViewControllers, I am calling initWithNibName:bundle: for several other UIViewControllers. I am grabbing the view property in each of those dynamically created controllers and placing them, one after the other, in my parent view. For instance, the y offset of viewControllerB should be equal to the height of viewControllerA. The y offset of viewControllerC should be equal to the height of viewControllerB, and so on. I am initalizing these nibs in viewDidLoad, yet none of them have any meaningful bounds or frame properties. The sizes and positions of each are all zero. Where is the 'correct' place to do this type of operation so that I can grab meaningful values from these properties?

  • Is there an easy way to merge Localizable.strings files?

    - by mystify
Problem: Using genstrings to create Localizable.strings files from a project. A few weeks later, some things changed and I run genstrings again. 75% of the new file is already in the old file. How could I merge the new file with the old file, so that the old file contains all of those 25% new key-value-pairs?

  • How to use UISwipeGestureRecognizer on UIButton?

    - by Ashutosh
I have a UIbutton which i want to work as a joystick. So i am trying to add some gesture recognizer on the same button. I have this in my code right now: UISwipeGestureRecognizer *recognizer; recognizer = [[UISwipeGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(handleSwipeFrom:)]; [recognizer setDirection:(UISwipeGestureRecognizerDirectionUp)]; [self.gestureRecieverButton addGestureRecognizer:recognizer]; [recognizer release]; recognizer = [[UISwipeGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(handleSwipeFrom:)]; [recognizer setDirection:(UISwipeGestureRecognizerDirectionDown)]; [self.gestureRecieverButton addGestureRecognizer:recognizer]; [recognizer release]; -(void)handleSwipeFrom:(UISwipeGestureRecognizer *)recognizer { NSLog(@"Swipe received.%@",recognizer); } This is the error i am getting now: -[CUETutorialSixteenClusterRootController handleSwipeFrom:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x79b71b0 2012-03-28 13:25:55.724 CUETrainer[1788:11f03] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[CUETutorialSixteenClusterRootController handleSwipeFrom:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x79b71b0' But its not actually doing anything. • Problem adding UIBarButtonItems to a ToolBar

  • Displaying very large images on the iPad

    - by Brodie4598
I need to display some very large images on the iPad. The files are jpgs and are about 6700x2700 (maps). Is there any way around loading the entire image into memory? Currently I load it int a scroll view for zooming/panning. The images are stored locally on the device.

  • rotating circle with swipe question

    - by Joe
Okay so I'm making something that basically works as a knob, but only half on the screen -- so I just need horizontal swipes to cause it to rotate. I have it nearly all sorted with one exception: if you change direction of your swipe in mid-swipe, the rotation doesn't change direction. I even can see the problem, but not sure what to do about a solution. So in my touchesMoved, I get the swipe into radians in the predictable way: CGFloat radians = atan2f(location.y - centerY, location.x - centerX); I then store radians, add/subtract it to previous rotation and then give the result to the CATransform3D. So the prob is that even though the swipe changes direction, there is a "balance" which doesn't allow an immediate change of direction. Does this make any sense?

  • strange memory error when deleting object from Core Data

    - by llloydxmas
I have an application that downloads an xml file, parses the file, and creates core data objects while doing so. In the parse code I have a function called 'emptydatacontext' that removes all items from Core Data before creating replacements from the xml file. This method looks like this: -(void) emptyDataContext { NSMutableArray* mutableFetchResults = [CoreDataHelper getObjectsFromContext:@"Condition" :@"road" :NO :managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest * allCon = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [allCon setEntity:[NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Condition" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]]; NSError * error = nil; NSArray * conditions = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:allCon error:&error]; [allCon release]; for (NSManagedObject * condition in conditions) { [managedObjectContext deleteObject:condition]; } } The first time this runs it deletes all objects and functions as it should - creating new objects from the xml file. I created a 'update' button that starts the exact same process of retrieving the file the preceeding as it did the first time. All is well until its time to delete the core data objects again. This 'deleteObject' call creates a "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" error each time. This only happens on the second time through. See this image for the debugger window as it appears when walking through the deletion FOR loop on the second iteration. Conditions is the fetched array of 7 objects with the objects below. Condition should be an individual condition. link text As you can see 'condition' does not match any of the objects in the 'conditions' array. I'm sure this is why I'm getting the memory access errors. Just not sure why this fetch (or the FOR) is returning a wrong reference. All the code that successfully performes this function on the first iteration is used in the second but with very different results. Thanks in advance for the help!

  • How to have a UISwipeGestureRecognizer AND UIPanGestureRecognizer work on the same view

    - by Shizam
How would you setup the gesture recognizers so that you could have a UISwipeGestureRecognizer and a UIPanGestureRecognizer work at the same time? Such that if you touch and move quickly (quick swipe) it detects the gesture as a swipe but if you touch then move (short delay between touch & move) it detects it as a pan? I've tried various permutations of requireGestureRecognizerToFail and that didn't help exactly, it made it so that if the SwipeGesture was left then my pan gesture would work up, down and right but any movement left was detected by the swipe gesture.

  • Using Kal calendar without doing the initialization (and so on) in the AppDelegate

    - by testing
I'm using the Kal calendar. For the code shown below I'm referring to the Holiday example. In this example the allocation and initialization of Kal is done in the applicationDidFinishLaunching in the AppDelegate. The UITableViewDelegate protocol (e.g. didSelectRowAtIndexPath) is also positioned in the AppDelegate class. The AppDelegate: #import "HolidayAppDelegate.h" #import "HolidaySqliteDataSource.h" #import "HolidaysDetailViewController.h" ## Heading ###import "Kal.h" @implementation HolidayAppDelegate @synthesize window; - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { kal = [[KalViewController alloc] init]; kal.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Today" style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered target:self action:@selector(showAndSelectToday)] autorelease]; kal.delegate = self; dataSource = [[HolidaySqliteDataSource alloc] init]; kal.dataSource = dataSource; // Setup the navigation stack and display it. navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:kal]; [window addSubview:navController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } // Action handler for the navigation bar's right bar button item. - (void)showAndSelectToday { [kal showAndSelectDate:[NSDate date]]; } #pragma mark UITableViewDelegate protocol conformance // Display a details screen for the selected holiday/row. - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { Holiday *holiday = [dataSource holidayAtIndexPath:indexPath]; HolidaysDetailViewController *vc = [[[HolidaysDetailViewController alloc] initWithHoliday:holiday] autorelease]; [navController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; } #pragma mark - - (void)dealloc { [kal release]; [dataSource release]; [window release]; [navController release]; [super dealloc]; } @end I don't want to put this into the AppDelegate, because there could be some overlapping code with other views. It should be a separate "component" which I can call and put on the stack. In my navigation based project I have a main view, the RootViewController. From there I want to push the Kal view on the stack. Currently I'm pushing an additional ViewController on the stack. In the viewWillAppear method from this ViewController I do the things shown in the code above. The following problems appear: Navigation back has to be done two times (one for the Kal calendar, one for my created view) Navigation to my main view is not possible anymore In the moment I don't know where to put this code. So the question is where to put the methods for allocation/initialization as well as the methods for the UITableViewDelegate protocol.

  • iOS: How to access the `UIKeyboard`?

    - by MattDiPasquale
I want to get a pointer reference to UIKeyboard *keyboard to the keyboard on screen so that I can add a transparent subview to it, covering it completely, to achieve the effect of disabling the UIKeyboard without hiding it. In doing this, can I assume that there's only one UIKeyboard on the screen at a time? I.e., is it a singleton? Where's the method [UIKeyboard sharedInstance]. Brownie points if you implement that method via a category. Or, even more brownie points if you convince me why it's a bad idea to assume only one keyboard and give me a better solution.

  • ObjectiveC - Releasing objects added as parameters

    - by NobleK
Ok, here goes. Being a Java developer I'm still struggling with the memory management in ObjectiveC. I have all the basics covered, but once in a while I encounter a challenge. What I want to do is something which in Java would look like this: MyObject myObject = new MyObject(new MyParameterObject()); The constructor of MyObject class takes a parameter of type MyParameterObject which I initiate on-the-fly. In ObjectiveC I tried to do this using following code: MyObject *myObject = [[MyObject alloc] init:[[MyParameterObject alloc] init]]; However, running the Build and Analyze tool this gives me a "Potential leak of an object" warning for the MyParameter object which indeed occurs when I test it using Instruments. I do understand why this happens since I am taking ownership of the object with the alloc method and not relinquishing it, I just don't know the correct way of doing it. I tried using MyObject *myObject = [[MyObject alloc] init:[[[MyParameterObject alloc] init] autorelease]]; but then the Analyze tool told me that "Object sent -autorelease too many times". I could solve the issue by modifying the init method of MyParameterObject to say return [self autorelease]; in stead of just return self;. Analyze still warnes about a potential leak, but it doesn't actually occur. However I believe that this approach violates the convention for managing memory in ObjectiveC and I really want to do it the right way. Thanx in advance.
