• Xcode custom project template creates only references to files

  Hi, I tried to create a custom project template for setting up unit testing. The problem is that when i create a new project based on this template it creates references to the template files : When i edit a file, it changes my template files instead of my actual project files ! When i delete my template, files from my actual project becomes red ! The project template is in : /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/Library/Xcode/Project Templates/Application/Test-based Application Reading some question on stack overflow i tried to install my template project in /Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Xcode/Project Templates But i cannot see my template when i create a new project. • Is using ReaderWriterLockSlim a bad idea for long lived objects?

  I am trying to track down the reason that an application has periods of bad performance. I think that I have linked the bad performance to the points where Garbage Collection is run for Gen 2. I get a profiling tool (CLR Profiler) and was quite surprised by the results. In my test I was spawning and processing millions of objects. However the biggest hog of the Gen 2 space comes from something Called Threading.ReaderWriterCount which comes from System.Threading.ReaderWriterLockSlim::InitializeThreadCounts. I know nothing about the inner workings of ReaderWriterLockSlim but from what I am getting from the reports it is okay to have 1 or 2 Locks for longer lived objects but try and use other locks if you are going to have many smaller objects. Does anyone have any comments or experience with ReaderWriterLockSlim and/or what to look for if it seems that GC is killing application performance?

• ASP.NET treeview populate child nodes. How can I avoid a postback to server?

  I am trying to test populate on demand for a treeview. I follow the procedure from these links: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/e8z5184w.aspx But the treeview still make a postback to the server if I expanded one of the tree nodes (If you put a breakpoint in the first line of Page_load event), thus refreshing the whole page. • ASP.NET Web App to compare performance on different hardware?

  I'm looking for an open source C# ASP.NET Web App that can be loaded onto 2 or more dedicated servers and provide me with metrics on how that server is performing. E.g. Click on a page and the app does a number of in-memory iterations and/or calculations to test processor throughput. Another page would do a bunch of disk access and report on that. I could put one together myself but there might already be something out there with a whole ton of tools in it to do this. I would imagine that I'm not the first one that would want to compare two machines for use as a web server.

• IE8 AJAX GET setRequestHeaders not working unless params provided in URL

In IE8 however, all of my AJAX test requests work EXCEPT for ones where I'm performing GETs without any query string params (such as the one above). POSTs work without question, and GET requests only work whenever I include query strings in the URL, like this: xhr.open( 'GET', '/ajax/?foo=bar' ) I'm also 110% positive that my server code is handling these requests appropriately, so, this stumps me completely. Does anyone have any clue as to what might be causing this?

  I have a few applications running under one app domain using port 80. I'm using port 80 to test and develop web application code. I want to take those same applications and publish them in a different app domain under a different port, 8001. This way, clients can view my applications that's using port 8001 while I develop and compile my project on port 80. However, when I debug my application, it freezes both the web applications on both port 80 and 8001. How can I debug my application under port 80 without affecting the web applications under port 8001?

• Windows CE 5.0 emulator needed

  I need an emulator for Windows CE 5.0 to test an embedded device (not PDA or smartphone) application that I am developing. This is what I have already tried: Visual Studio 2008 Pro includes an emulator. Unfortunately, it does not include a Windows CE image (only Windows Mobile and Smartphone). Yes, there is a difference, see the screenshots here. Windows CE includes a "start button", windows that can be minimized, moved around etc. There is a Windows CE Device Emulator available from Microsoft. Apart from the fact that its license only permits non-commercial use, it does not run in Windows 7 (it requires .net Framework 1.1, which is incompatible with Windows 7) nor in Windows XP mode (error message: "Emulator for Windows CE will not run one virtual machine within another. Please run the virtual machine on the host operating system"). Is there any option that I have missed?

• JKS, CER, SignCode issue

  Currently, I've got an intresting problem about signing an EXE file using the SignCode tool from Microsoft and a certificate (from GlobalSign)... So, we've bought a new certificate as the current one will expire in short time. The original format is JKS. I exported this certificate from .JKS to .CER so I can install on local machine in the Root Trusted Certificates section. I've installed it and if I open the certmgr.msc I can see it, but if I open the Control Panel - Internet Options - Content - Certificates - Root Trusted Certificates etc then I can't see it... I thought it should be here as well. When I run the signcode.exe tool I get the "unable to open a csp provider with the correct private key" error message. Note! The signcode.exe command is correct, because it works if I test with the old certificate. Please advise. Thank you in advance! Serge

  We make use of a java application that manages a pinpad via the serial port. This works perfectly on windows with the Sun Comm.jar, the supplied dll and the properties file. Now we are attempting to use this solution on Linux (actually it does run on various other flavours of linux out in the field) - with Ubuntu server mode. After much attempts - blood, sweat and almost tears we have this scenario: Java version 1.4.2_17 Linux - Ubuntu Comm libs - Comm3 supplied by sun with the default driver specified An external comm test shows the comm ports: /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1 But the java application says unable to open port /dev/ttyS1 (using the RXRT files produces invalid port errors) Has anyone been able to use java 1.4.2 on linux for serial port communication and found a solution that I could apply in my scenario? greatly appreciated Phill

  Let's say a question has many tags, via a join table called taggings. I do a join thus: SELECT DISTINCT `questions`.id FROM `questions` LEFT OUTER JOIN `taggings` ON `taggings`.taggable_id = `questions`.id LEFT OUTER JOIN `tags` ON `tags`.id = `taggings`.tag_id I want to order the results according to a particular tag name, eg 'piano', so that piano is at the top, then by all the other tags in alphabetical order. Currently i'm using this order clause: ORDER BY (tags.name = 'piano') desc, tags.name Which is going completely wrong - the first results i get back aren't even tagged with 'piano' at all. I think my problem is that i need to group the tag names somehow and do my ordering test against that: i think that doing it against the straight tags.name isn't working due to the structure of the resultant join table (it does work if i just do a simple select on the tags table) but i can't get my head around how to fix it. grateful for any advice, max

  Hi, I have used the excellent gskinner.com/RegExr/ tool to test my string matching regex but I cannot figure out how to implement this into my jQuery file to return true or false. The code I have is as follows: ^(http:)\/\/(.+\.)?(stackoverflow)\. on a url such as http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask this would match (according to RegExr) http://stackoverflow. So this is great because I want to try matching the current window.location to that string, but the issue I am having is that this jQuery/js script does not work: var url = window.location; if ( url.match( /^(http:)\/\/(.+\.)?(stackoverflow)\./ ) ) { alert('this works'); }; Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here?   I am trying to initiate a OTA app install from within a phonegap iPad app. I have tried this: var url = "http://www.example.com/test.plist"; window.open("itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=" + url, "_blank"); This works in iOS 5 but NOT iOS 6. I have also tried using the ChildBrowser plugin to point to a page with a link to the OTA app install but that doesn't work either. (If I visit the webpage directly from within the native iPad browser, it works fine) Does anyone know how I can initiate a OTA app install from within the phonegap iPad app? (must work in iOS 5 and iOS 6) I am trying to implement an auto update feature within a Ad-Hock iPad app (not through App Store). So when the app detects that there is a new update, it will prompt the user to install the new update and thats where I need this functionality.

  I'm trying to simply test my RESTful API with cURL. Using the following invocation: curl -d "name=jimmy" -H "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded" http://127.0.0.1:3000/people.xml -i Rails is dying though: ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken (ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken): :8:in `synchronize' Looks like it's running this through a protect_from_forgery filter. I thought protect_from_forgery is excluded for non-HTML HTTP POST/PUT/DELETE type requests? This is clearly targeting the XML format. If I pass actual XML content, it works. But my users will be submitting POST data as URL encoded parameters. I know all the various ways I can disable protect_from_forgery but what's the proper way of handling this? I want to leave it on so that when I do have HTML based forms and handle format.html, I don't forget to re-enable it for then. I want users to be able to make HTTP POST requests to my XML-based API though and not get bombarded with this.

  Hello, I have recently been introduced to EasyMock and have been asked to develop some unit tests for a FileMonitor class using it. The FileMonitor class is based on a timed event that wakes up and checks for file modification(s) in a defined list of files and directories. I get how to do this using the actual file system, write a test that writes to a file and let the FileMonitor do its thing. So, how do I do this using EasyMock?   I have a requirement to store the data in encrypted form in database tables. I want to do it at database level but the problems I am facing: ( a) Data Type of the field should be Varbinary. ( b) Encryption is not supported by Workgroup edition ( c) Is it possible to encrypt Numeric Fields? I want to access the encrypted data in tables to fetch in views and stored procedure for some processing but due to above problems I am not able to. Here is my Environment: Development Platform - ASP.Net,.Net Framework 3.5,Visual studio 2008 Server Operating System - Windows Server 2008 Database - SQL Server 2008 Work group edition I was also thinking to adopt a different approach to resolve this issue (yet to test it's feasibility). I was just wondering if I could create a CLR function (which could take parameters to encrypt and decrypt data using Cryptography types provided in .Net framework) and use the CLR integration feature of SQL Server and call that function from stored procedure and views. I am not sure if I am thinking in right direction? Any advice on this as well please.

• Tutorials for .NET database app

  My earlier question and comments are at "What is ADO.NET". This shows my level of knowledge about c# database apps. Can someone point me to tutorials and/or primers that can help me proceed from where I am (also stated in other question)? I've looked and all I've found are tutorials that talk about general db basics (ie, not helping with VS/C#), or talk about connecting to existing SQL db's. I need help setting one up and configuring it, as well as help on how to create and use queries to test the db schema.

• Good tools which generate NUnit unit tests for .NET assemblies in Visual Studio 2008

  Hey guys, I'm pretty new to Unit Testing so bare with me. I realize that best best practice is not to auto generate unit tests, however I'd like to use Code Generation to set-up the basic skeleton of the tests. Now, I know Visual Studio 2008 already has the built in "create tests", however, it just creates a flat list of all the classes it's going to test... and it's not for NUnit right? Ideally, I'd like the code generation to follow the folder AND namespace structure of the assembly its generating tests for. Can you guys recommend any good tools which generate NUnit unit tests for .NET assemblies in Visual Studio 2008? cheers!

• Setup requires .NET 4.0 - System already has .net 4.0

  Hi all, I created a service which I now want to install to test, I created a setup program from the templates in VS2010. When running the setup program it prompts me to download and install .net fw 4.0, but I already have it installed. I did try to just install the file that I get pointed to (4.0 cliet), but not only does it still not work, it causes vs2010 to throw an unknown error and can't open. I've now uninstalled everything (including vs2010 beta) and started afresh with VS2010 ultimate trial full version, framework 4.0 and win 7 but it still prompts me to install fw 4.0 when I try to run the setup. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Thanx in advance Willem

• Screen capture from windows service

  I've got DirectShow based screen capture software. Internally it calls CopyScreenToBitmap function to grab screen. Then the picture is compressed by ffdshow. It works fine as a desktop application, but as window service, on certain computers it does not work (black picture). I've set 'Allow service to interact with desktop' and run that service on current user account. Any ideas what could be wrong? I test it on windows XP, but it is expected to work on Vista and 7 as well. Yes it works as desktop application on all computers, but on some of them (on majority of them) it fails as a service.
