  • Globally disable Ext JS Animations

    - by ifwdev
    I'm testing an intranet web app in the iPad but the animations to open "windows" and show message boxes are horribly slow. I've tried setting the global Ext.enableFx to false, and confirmed that flag is still false after page load in Firebug. The animations are still occurring though so I must be doing something wrong. Thanks...

  • How do "modern JVMs" differ from older JVMs?

    - by Lord Torgamus
    Here's a phrase that I heard a lot throughout high school and university computer science classes: "That's not an issue for modern JVMs." Usually this would come up in discussions about overall performance or optimization strategies. It was always treated as a kind of magical final answer, though, as if it makes issues no longer worth thinking about. And that just leads me to wonder: what are the differences between the prototypical "modern JVM" and older JVMs, really?

  • JS assignment order of properties in objects

    - by devdev
    Just had a quick question about why a certain order of assignment works and another doesn't. I wanted to create a simple "inherit" / "copy" function (just for testing it) that copies properties from one object to another: var cat = { tail:"yes", hairy:"yes, hairy" }; var dog = { sick:"extremely ill"}; function inherit(obj1, obj2) { for (var p in obj1) { obj2[p] = obj1[p]; // this works, but "obj1[p] = obj2[p];" doesn't. Why?? } } inherit(cat, dog); console.log(dog.tail);

  • capturing user IP address information for audit

    - by Samuel
    We have a requirement to log IP address information of all users who use a certain web application based on JEE 5. What would be an appropriate sql data type for storing IPv4 or IPv6 addressses in the following supported databases (h2, mysql, oracle). There is also a need to filter activity from certain IP addresses. Should I just treat the representation as a string field (say varchar(32) to hold ipv4, ipv6 addresses)

  • Js Variable Reference Quickie

    - by Nikki
    Hoping someone can clear this up for me. Let's say I have 2 globals: var myarray=[1,3,5,7,9],hold; and then I do this: function setup() { alert (myarray[0]);//shows 1 hold=myarray; alert (hold);//appears to show 'hold' containing all the values of myarray. first number shown is 1 myarray[0]=2; alert (hold);//shows the values of myarray with the updated first entry. first numbe shown is 2 } Am I to take it that 'hold' is simply keeping a reference to myarray, rather than actually taking all the values of?

  • Problems using the Razor model when creating my knockout ViewModel

    - by Emil Kantis
    I'm having problems with using the Model in a javascript call when setting up my knockout VM.. @model List<AdminGui.Models.Domain> <script src="http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/knockout/knockout-2.2.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function ViewModel() { var self = this; self.domains = ko.observableArray( ko.utils.arrayMap(@Model, function(item) { return new Domain(item.guid, item.description, item.namespaces); })); } I get a syntax error on @Model in the ko.utils.arrayMap call. I suspect it might be my Razor-fu that is lacking... :)

  • Use JS to add characters into textfield

    - by Thomas
    I want to add a $ symbol before a users entry into a text field without actually submitting the $ when the user clicks submit. Additionally, I need to prohibit the user from entering anything but numerical values in to the text input. I know about the JQuery input mask (http://www.conetrees.com/2009/03/blog/jquery-masked-input-plugin-increase-usability-for-masked-format-input-fields) but this plugin requires you to set the exact number of digits/letters that the user is supposed to enter, which is no good for my current project. Can anyone think of a way to accomplish what I have described above?

  • Broken JS Loop with Google Maps...

    - by Oscar Godson
    My code is below, and I had an issue with nearly the same code, and it was fixed here on StackOverflow, but, again, its not working. I haven't changed the working code, but i did wrap it in the for...in loop youll see below. The issue is that no matter what marker I click it always triggers the last marker/infoWindow that was placed. $(function(){ var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(45.522015,-122.683811); var settings = { zoom: 10, center: latlng, disableDefaultUI:true, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.SATELLITE }; var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), settings); $.getJSON('api',function(json){ for (var property in json) { if (json.hasOwnProperty(property)) { var json_data = json[property]; var the_marker = new google.maps.Marker({ title:json_data.item.headline, map:map, clickable:true, position:new google.maps.LatLng( parseFloat(json_data.item.geoarray[0].latitude), parseFloat(json_data.item.geoarray[0].longitude) ) }); var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({ content: '<div><h1>'+json_data.item.headline+'</h1><p>'+json_data.item.full_content+'</p></div>' }); new google.maps.event.addListener(the_marker, 'click', function() { infowindow.open(map,the_marker); }); } } }); }); Thank you for whoever figures this out!

  • Another passing variable through function jQuery/JS problem...

    - by dallen
    Here's my code: function mouseOver(variable) { return function() { $(variable).fadeIn(100); }; } function mouseOut(variable) { return function() { $(variable).fadeOut(100); }; } function lawyer(var1, var2, var3, var4) { return function() { $(var1).bind('mouseenter', mouseOver(var2)).bind('mouseleave', mouseOut(var2)).click( function() { $(var1).unbind('mouseenter').unbind('mouseleave'); $(var1).removeClass('off').addClass('on'); $(var3).bind('mouseenter', mouseOver(var4)).bind('mouseleave', mouseOut(var4)); $(var3).removeClass('on').addClass('off'); $(var4).hide(); }); } } lawyer("#group", ".b", "#group2", ".l"); What would be the reason for this not working? It works in that it hides $(var4).hide();, but clicking on the object doesn't seem to do anything. It works if I take the code out of a function and just copy/paste it a few times and change the targets. I'm not seeing it... Any help would be appreciated!

  • Backbone: rendering syntax

    - by ksol
    We're using Backbone.js in one of my team's projects, and this is the first time I use it. I've seen many times this kind of code (it's coffeescript, but clear enough I think. @ means this.) clients_view = new Homespa.Views.Orders.Clients.SectionView(collection: @options.clients) @$("#clients-section").html(clients_view.render().el) clients_search_view = new Homespa.Views.Orders.Clients.SearchView @$("#clients_search_modal").html(clients_search_view.render().el) Isn't there a better way to do this? I would expect to just call render on my view, and then everything's good, I shouldn't have to get the html and append/replace it by hand. Thanks for you time !

  • XML Outputting - PHP vs JS vs Anything Else?

    - by itsphil
    Hi everyone, I am working on developing a Travel website which uses XML API's to get the data. However i am relatively new to XML and outputting it. I have been experimenting with using PHP to output a test XML file, but currently the furthest iv got is to only output a few records. As it the questions states i need to know which technology will be best for this project. Below iv included some points to take into consideration. The website is going to be a large sized, heavy traffic site (expedia/lastminute size) My skillset is PHP (intermediate/high skilled) & Javascript (intermediate/high skilled) Below is an example of the XML that the API is outputting: <?xml version="1.0"?> <response method="###" success="Y"> <errors> </errors> <request> <auth password="test" username="test" /> <method action="###" sitename="###" /> </request> <results> <line id="6" logourl="###" name="Line 1" smalllogourl="###"> <ships> <ship id="16" name="Ship 1" /> <ship id="453" name="Ship 2" /> <ship id="468" name="Ship 3" /> <ship id="356" name="Ship 4" /> </ships> </line> <line id="63" logourl="###" name="Line 2" smalllogourl="###"> <ships> <ship id="492" name="Ship 1" /> <ship id="454" name="Ship 2" /> <ship id="455" name="Ship 3" /> <ship id="421" name="Ship 4" /> <ship id="401" name="Ship 5" /> <ship id="404" name="Ship 6" /> <ship id="405" name="Ship 7" /> <ship id="406" name="Ship 8" /> <ship id="407" name="Ship 9" /> <ship id="408" name="Ship 10" /> </ships> </line> <line id="41" logourl="###"> <ships> <ship id="229" name="Ship 1" /> <ship id="230" name="Ship 2" /> <ship id="231" name="Ship 3" /> <ship id="445" name="Ship 4" /> <ship id="570" name="Ship 5" /> <ship id="571" name="Ship 6" /> </ships> </line> </results> </response> If possible when suggesting which technlogy is best for this project, if you could provide some getting started guides or any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • js object problem

    - by haltman
    Hi everybay! I use an object to check that a group of radio buttons have a precise value like set on "rule" object. Here is an example: arr = {a:"1", b:"1", c:"1", c:"2"}; //that's my object rule var arr2={}; //here I create my second array with charged value $("#form_cont input:checked").each(function() { arr2[$(this).attr("name")]=$(this).val(); }); //here I make the check for (k in arr2) { if (typeof arr[k] !== 'undefined' && arr[k] === arr2[k]) { $("#form_cont li[name$='"+k+"']").css('background-color', ''); } else { $("#form_cont li[name$='"+k+"']").css('background-color', 'pink'); } } The problem is when I have to check the "c" key I get last the one (2) and not the right value how that may e 1 or 2 thanks in advance ciao, h.

  • using respond_to format.js to replace the content of a textarea on rails

    - by Stacia
    I have some saved text in my create controller. If it's not stressful, I'd like it to populate a textarea on the page with the saved text along with displaying the error message fields (which is what's already happening). I've used things like replace_html before, but I don't know if there's an easy way to get to textarea or text field IDs and just replace the value of the text. For now I'm just going to do some javascript but it would be nice to know the rails shortcut. edit: I wasn't in the right mindset because this app uses extjs and was trying to figure out how to do it this way. The text box is actually an ext status bar (same as here : http://www.extjs.com/deploy/dev/examples/statusbar/statusbar-demo.html ) which doesn't get created until the page is finished loading. When I try to enter commnands like the first poster suggested, I get "setvalue is not a function". Playing with firebug on the page I can get it to set the value after loading by using (whatever method to get it through ext or scriptaculous).value = "lol" but none of the page update things work with this.

  • Inspiration and influence of the else clause of loop statements in Python?

    - by Aristide
    Python offers an optional else clause in loop statements, which is executed if and only if the loop is not terminated by a break. For an interesting discussion about this neglected commodity, see this question. Here, I just wanted to know: if the very concept of this loop-else construct originates from another language (either theoretical or actually implemented), conversely, if it was taken up in any newer language. May be I should ask the former to Guido, but he surely is a too busy guy for such a futile inquiry. ;-)

  • What does ZIP stand for (the compression format, not the postal codes)

    - by codymanix
    Does anybody know for what the acronym ZIP stands for which was and is used in programs like PKZIP and GZIP? There is a compression algorithm named Lempel-Ziv-Welch-Algorithm (LZW) maybe the guy named Ziv invented together with other people ZIP? I cannot find anything about it, maybe its not an abbreviation but instead it just means "to zip files" but I think originally there was more about it..

  • Measure CPU performance via JS

    - by Nicholas Kyriakides
    A webapp has as a central component a relatively heavy algorithm that handles geometric operations. There are 2 solutions to make the whole thing accessible from both high-end machines and relatively slower mobile devices. I will use RPC's if i detect that the user machine is ''slow'' or else if i detect that the user machine can handle it OK, then i provide to the webapp the script to handle it client side. Now what would be a reliable way to detect the speed of the user machine? I was thinking of providing a sample script as a test when the page loads and detect the time it took to execute that. Any ideas?

  • Toastr.js notifications as modal notfication

    - by Maxsteel
    I know it's not what toastr (or toast notifs in general) are meant to be used for, but I want to use them as a modal notification. My idea is following. On toast show: toastr.options.onShown = function() { //Create an overlay on the entire page} Overlay: #overlay { background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.8); z-index: 999; position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; display: none; } And on toast close: toastr.options.onHidden = function() { //make overlay go away } Also, I'm setting timeout of toast to 0 so it won't disappear by itself. Question: I want the toast notification to stay atop the overlay and not behind it as overlay will cover everything. How can I do it?
