• Smart Client App: How to give Different Settings for Different Users

  Hi! I have a smart client application being deployed with a CickOnce webpage. here's the current scenario. User runs the application, and the application shows a login form. User enters ID/Password in the login form, and the application sends that information to the server. The server authenticates the user and sends configuration and data to the application. Different users have different configuration and data for their application. I was concerned that anyone can download the application from the webpage if they know the URL. So I'm trying to change the authentication scheme, so that users can login at the webpage to download the application. I want to send the authentication info from the webpage(Program running at the server) to the smart client app, so that application can download the configuration information from the server, without prompting users to make a login again. How can the webpage send the ID/Passoword to the application securely?

• Self-signed ceritificates for many users/browsers/sites

  Here is my problem - I have a lot of users using different browsers accessing many internal web sites using https. I can create my own Certificate Authority, than create a certificate for each server and after that have all the users import it. Obviously, it cannot work in reality - there are too many users and too many sites, and some sites will be added in the future. I'm looking for a way to automate this. Is there a way to create a certificate so that all major browsers (IE, FF, Opera, Chrome and Safari) would trust it for all servers ? If so, what is the best way to install it automatically in all major browsers ?

  I have MOSS. I want to make a page where a user, say administrator, could send some instructions to a server, for example using standard library and make task for a group of users forcing them to read files. After the reading users would press "already read it" and administrator would know who did it/who did not. I created simple workflow in office designer and choose assigne task to Group1, which is in the sharepoint server. After WF run everyone who is in Group1 get message about a task, that's great. However this task is general for group and if we go to the site section "current tasks", we can see it, while I want this task for every person in Group1. Futher question, is it possible to create form where administrator will choose users for this task, 'cause now I munualy set group in WF.

• Python - Using "Google AJAX Search" API's Local Search Objects

  Hi! I've just started using Google's search API to find addresses and the distances between those addresses. I used geopy for this, but, I often had the problem of not getting the correct addresses for my queries. I decided to experiment, therefore, with Google's "Local Search" (http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxsearch/local.html). Anyway, I wanted to ask if I could use the "Local Search" objects provided by the API within python. Something tells me that I can't and that I have to use json. Does anyone know if there is a work around? PS: Im trying to make something like this: http://www.google.com/uds/samples/random/lead.html ... except a matrix type deal where the insides will be filled with distances between the addresses. • Select distinct users with referrals

  I have a bunch of Users. Since Django doesn't really let me extend the default User model, they each have Profiles. The Profiles have a referred_by field (a FK to User). I'm trying to get a list of Users with = 1 referral. Here's what I've got so far Profile.objects.filter(referred_by__isnull=False).values_list('referred_by', flat=True) Which gives me a list of IDs of the users who have referrals... but I need it to be distinct, and I want the User object, not their ID. Or better yet, it would be nice if it could return the number of referrals a user has. Any ideas?

  Hi, I have a stateless session bean and a standalone-java-program acting as a client. The bean method executes just fine when the interface is marked @Remote. However,when I mark that interface with @Local instead of @Remote, I get the following Exception. [java] javax.naming.NamingException: Could not dereference object [Root exception is java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not find InvokerLocator URL at JNDIaddress "chapter1/HelloUserBean/local"; looking up local Proxy from Remote JVM?] But I expected even the latter to work, since it is the same computer that the code executes in. Seeing this behavior, I am assuming that, the Application-Server and the Standalone-Java-Program use different JVM instances and not a single JVM instance and so this client can access only through a remote interface. Is that assumption correct ? Thanks !

  i have a single sql database in sql server express. i have a login MAINLOGIN, for this database. i want insertion of data in this database through multiple users, U1,U2,U3, each having different userids & passwords. These users would be created by MAINLOGIN , manually or via the winform application. So while creating MAINLOGIN , i would give him permission to further create logins. For this what should i do? i cannot create MULTIPLE users, because for one database, only one user can be created under one login. so should i create multiple logins, L1,L2,L3, then map, U1, U2, U3 to them. Or, is there a better way to do this? like application roles etc. i dont want to use windows authentication. because if i know the system password, then i could simply connect sql via the application and insert wrong data.

  I have a survey web-app that is public facing. I want to set up automated testing with Selenium, but selenium can't capture javascript alerts that we're currently using on the site. I'm thinking about changing our user-facing error notifications to some web 2.0 javascript library so that it is accessible to Selenium. However, I'm not sure how many of our users would be able to experience them properly. How backwards-compatible do I need to be in the present day? I have collected a database of actual user-agent strings of our users. I asked here how I could group them into meaningful data about what browsers our users are actually using.

  Hello, I am trying to use Federated authentication on Azure. I found a example of having a local sts outside azure which is used for authentication from a web role hosted in azure. This works perfectly. My issue is, i dont want to have an application outside azure. Instead, I want to host the local sts website also in azure. So in effect I will have two web roles (1. my actual website, 2. the sts). I tried the above approach my creating a new webrole and moving the files from my original sts project. But i am getting compilation errors even if I reference the required dlls. I have also set "copy local" to true. It will be very helpful if somebody can guide me.. Thanks

  I'm working on a sports website and need to convert the server's match start time to local match start time. After much googling, I figured the fastest and most accurate way is to get the GMT offset value in JavaScript. The trouble is, I can't pass the GMT offset value to PHP. I've tried using both the PHP session and cookie variables, but both are always empty. The website doesn't require a user account, so there isn't any stored GMT value in the database. I'm trying to auto-detect each user's local timezone every time he/she visits the website, and then calculate the local match start time based on the timezone offset. Can someone please advise me? • Finding a users maximum score and the associated details

  I have a table in which users store scores and other information about said score (for example notes on score, or time taken etc). I want a mysql query that finds each users personal best score and it's associated notes and time etc. What I have tried to use is something like this: SELECT *, MAX(score) FROM table GROUP BY (user) The problem with this is that whilst you can extra the users personal best from that query [MAX(score)], the returned notes and times etc are not associated with the maximum score, but a different score (specifically the one contained in *). Is there a way I can write a query that selects what I want? Or will I have to do it manually in PhP?

Suppose that my website is xyz.com and I have 3 clients "abc", "klm", "pqr" and I want to give access to features of xyz.com under the link as follows www.xyz.com/abc www.xyz.com/klm www.xyz.com/pqr and Client abc has N users and I want to set 3 roles for every client's user role. Is there any sample application in .NET that support this kind of website access per client having multiple users? And If I use ASP.NET Membership will that be a suitable membership solution or Do I need to opt for any other type of Membership defined by my own or already available in open source market for .NET. Edit: All the clients will have same functionality. I would like to build a generic model for www.xyz.com/{whatever} so that in future if a new client want to register with me he/she just have to give client name and up on adding client name all the features avaiable to exising clients will be applicable.

However is any of these things possible: EITHER * Have another user download a file which is still being uploaded by another user ( in progress ) OR * Make a user automaticly ( instant ) download a file from another users PC through our website OR * Make a user automaticly (instant) download a file from our server ( so it's directly downloaded to the users pc and the progress shown on our website of the download progress, without the normal internet explorer dialog downloading the file or firefox ).   Hi, I want to keep tabs on the number of concurrent users of my application. I therefore log a time_start and a time_stop. If I now want to query the database for the maximum number of logged on users and return the start date, how would I do that. The table looks like this: id | time_start | time_stop ----+---------------------+--------------------- 1 | 2010-03-07 05:40:59 | 2010-03-07 05:41:33 2 | 2010-03-07 06:50:51 | 2010-03-07 10:50:51 3 | 2010-02-21 05:20:00 | 2010-03-07 12:23:44 4 | 2010-02-19 08:21:12 | 2010-03-07 12:37:28 5 | 2010-02-13 05:52:13 | Where time_stop is empty the user is still logged on. In this case I would expect to see 2010-03-07 returned, since all users (5) were logged on at that moment. However if I would run the query with 'where time_start BETWEEN '2010-02-17' AND '2010-02-23' I would expect to see 2010-02-21 with a maximum of 2. Is this possible direct in SQL (using postgres) or do I need to parse the results in PHP? Thanks, lleto

  We have some problems with users performing a specific action twice, we have a mechanism to ensure that users can't do it but somehow it still happens. Here is how our current mechanism works: Client side: The button will be disabled after 1 click. Server side: We have a key hash in the URL which will be checked against the key stored in SESSIONS, once it matches, the key is deleted. Database side: Once the action is performed, there is a field to be flagged indicating the user has completed the action. However, with all these measures, still there are users able to perform the action twice, are there any more safer methods?

  I am working with UIWebView project and I want to load an HTML file from a project resource. It is working fine when I run from the URL, but when I view the HTML file locally, JS files are not loaded. Loading the local HTML local file doesn't refer to js files in UIWebView.   I am the create_user() function that Django provides to create my users. Also I want to store additional information about the users. So I tried following the instructions given at http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/auth/#storing-additional-information-about-users but I cannot get it to work for me. Is there a step-by-step guide that I can follow to get this to work for me? Also, once I have added these custom fields, I would obviously need to add / edit / delete data from them. I cannot seem to find any instructions on how to do this.

  In my deployment on JBoss 5.1.0GA with JavaEE-5 I have beans of the general form public interface Foo { void baz (); } @Stateless public class FooBean implements Foo { void baz() { // ... } } I have assumed that this is the same as if I have explicitly annotated the Foo interface with @Local. From seeing a stack trace in the code I think that it is actually using a remote interface, whereas I want all of my beans to be local. Do I need to explicitly annotate interfaces as Local or is there some default? Finding documentation on this is proving challenging so any links to relevant documentation would be greatly appreciated.

• Git on live Windows Server - Trying to pull from the repo but local files already modified

  I have my Git repository hosted at github.com. I would like to push updates and such to github.com and then log into my Windows server and do a git pull to get my changes (that are verified to work on my local machine. Ideally I should have another server setup as my local machine settings are different from the live server. But I'm cheap.). It seems like whenever I try to do a git pull on the server, the files seem to get modified somehow since the last pull. And so I am unable to get the update as git says I need to commit my local (Windows server) changes. How can I use git like I want to? Or is there a better way?

  Are you able to use open id to log into the local development server with google app engine sdk version 1.4.1 and python 2.5? When I execute this self.redirect(users.create_login_url(continue_url, None, openid_url)) I get redirected to http://localhost/_ah/login rather than the openid url. The openid url and continue url are valid. My app.yaml looks like this - url: /_ah/login_required script: do_openid_login.py - url: /users/(.*) script: routers/user_router.py login: required If I browse to http://localhost/users/ I am also redirected to http://localhost/_ah/login rather than http://localhost/_ah/login_required Is there a config issue or does openid not work locally?

  I have a web app that is supposed to be run on a single local machine (kiosk display), but I want the option to let a user make changes on the web (from any PC) and update the instance on their local PC (kiosk display). From what i imagine, the MySQL instance on the web will just be replace the MySQL instance on the local (kiosk display) machine. Does anyone know of a way to do this?   I have a simple GAE app that includes a login/logout link. This app is running on the dev server at the moment. The base page handler gets the current user, and creates a login/logout url appropriately. I have the three following tables: users (id, name) products (id, name) owners (userid, productid, date) One product can be sold by user A to user B and then back to A. Now, I want the list of all products currently owned by every single user with the date of transaction. Currently, my query is this one, but I'm stuck with old data (first association of one product to one user, and not the newest one): SELECT users.name, products.name, date FROM products JOIN owners ON products.id = owners.id JOIN users ON owners.id = user.id GROUP BY product.id Do you have some hints?
