    Hi, i'm facing a strange LDAP configuration. Some admin, just created users as OU in OpenLDAP. To do it, the admin, changed some attributes in the OU like posixAccount, inetOrgPerson, organizationalPerson and person.. my question is what is the advantage to do it? It works, but i would like to know the drawbacks about it.

  • VirtualBox guest OS accessing local server on host OS.

    Hi, On my Ubuntu HOST I have my local webserver. I installed VirtualBox and Debian as a GUEST. I would like Debian guest to be able to hit my webserver running on my Ubuntu host (for example, I just type http://localhost:8080/ in the browser under Debian). How can this be done?     Hi, I'm working in solaris server machine. More than 10 people are logged in to the same server machine.It take one hour for finishing the installation. But after the installation is over , some other user is deleting some of the directories and files in my installation folder. Is there any way to know who removed the files? Or atleast I want to know can I see the command history of other users.

    I have an application installed in my RHEL6 box that has a GUI (AppGui.sh). My problem is that a few non-tech users would like to access this GUI remotely. I've tried several guides over the internet but I still cant make it work. I tried: -Installing X Window System -Enabling FORWARDX11=yes in my sshd_config -Exporting $DISPLAY variable -Connecting through ssh -X user@host (simply stays there) How can I setup my box from scratch to make this work?

    Good morning, I have a registry key that changes local users Internet Explorer LAN Settings to uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" tickbox. When I add this policy to the Terminal Servers user group it has no effect. I exported this key from my own registry after unticking the box. My computer runs Windows Vista Business Edition. Environment: We are using Server 2008 RC2 environment - two terminal servers with a session broker. Any idea's on how to get this working?

    I recently setup gitolite, where users access git repository with "gitolite" user through ssh. Now I would like to integrate that into LDAP. Each user has pubkey in LDAP and if he has "git" objectClass, he would be able to access "gitolite" user through ssh. I know it's possible to store public keys in LDAP, I'm not sure if it possible to allow authentication in "gitosis" account based on objectClass. EDIT: To clarify, with objectClass git, user "foobar" would be able to login as "gitolite" through ssh

  • dnsmasq local network works for some but hostnames are not resolving for others

    I have set up a local network and it seems that some of us can use it properly while others can't. The problem seems to be that the local hostnames I setup don't get resolved for everyone.     Normally we create service accounts in Active Directory, and if we install things like SQL Server, etc, we set the software services we set them to use those service accounts. The service accounts don't have the ability to be used to log into a workstation interactively. For Proof of concepts, we're installing SQL Server and other software on Virtual windows 7 workstations that aren't part of a domain, so we are creating local accounts that will be used by windows services. Is it possible to stop those users from appearing as options on the login screen?

    How can I manage a domain with the "Active Directory Users and Computers" from a computer that is not on that domain? I realize I'll need some domain admin (or less) credentials, but that's fine. I have 2 scenarios where I'd like to do this: From a machine on Domain 1 but I'd also like to manage Domain 2 (the 2 domains are in no way related) From a laptop that is not a member of any domain. If we can figure out #2, that will be "good enough" but #1 would be nice too.

    I would like to set an alias on my local PC for a network machine. I know that it can be done by adding an entry in the hosts file as long as the IP address of the machine is also specified. However, the problem is that IPs are dynamically assigned by a DHCP server so I don't know for sure the IP address. Is there a way to define just an alias based on the machine's network name? P.S.: I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • Some Windows XP users can't open any programs

    On my Windows XP PC several user accounts have been created (five to be exact), of these one has all the built-in programs disabled. When I click to open any of these programs it searches to find the program. This is bizarre because all the other users can open these programs just fine. Thinking that the user account is corrupted I created a new user and this new account has the same problem. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

    Right now if I try to add a non-system user not in the university's Kerberos realm I am prompted for a Kerberos password anyway. Obviously there is no password to be entered, so I just press enter and see: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error passwd: password unchanged Typing passwd newuser has the same issue with the same message. I tried using pwconv in the hopes that only a shadow entry was needed, but it changed nothing. I want to be able to add a local user not in the realm and give them a local password without being bothered about Kerberos. I am on Ubuntu 10.04. Recently I have spotted some users activate OpenVPN on their workstations and i have discovered that they connect on port 443 of an external server and then use a proxy to circumvent the company filters. Is there any method to monitor VPN connections on allowed ports or to avoid the connections?
