JSF2 - Why does render response not rerender component setting?

From the tutorial: "If the request is a postback and errors were encountered during the apply request values phase, process validations phase, or update model values phase, the original page is rendered during Render response phase" (http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/bnaqq.html) Does it mean that if view is restored in "Restore View" phase and then any apply request/validation/update model phase fails and skips to "Render response" that Render response only passes restored view without any changes to client? Connection Timeout exception for a query using ADO.Net

Update: Looks like the query does not throw any timeout. The connection is timing out. This is a sample code for executing a query. Sometimes, while executing time consuming queries, it throws a timeout exception. I cannot use any of these techniques: 1) Increase timeout. 2) Run it asynchronously with a callback. Saving a "project"-type document (containing sub-documents)

I'm trying to create a "project"-like document, in that it contains subdocuments in a specified directory. I'd like a brand new save of a document to set up that directory with appropriate subdirectories. I'd like a "Save As" to copy all those subdirectories and any files within them to the new location. But I'd like a "Save" to only update certain data files and (of course) not overwrite all the subdocuments! What's the "safe" way to do this? I tried keeping track of the file's location in my document, and checking to see if it was the same or different than the save location, but it feels messy, and I'm worried that Apple is doing something behind the scenes that will make this direct URL-to-URL comparison fail in some circumstances. Is there a standard way to do something like this?

AnkhSVN, mysisgit and Pageant

I have recently installed msysgit on my machine (its running Windows 7) to use Git for some projects. A lot of my projects are under SVN, in which I use AnkhSVN in Visual Studio 2008 to commit etc. Since I have installed msysgit everytime I try to commit, update etc inside Visual Studio, the program C:\msysgit\bin\ssh.exe loads up, asks for my password, then Ankh throws an exception. I currently use Pageant to save my login credentials for SVN - I have TortoiseSVN installed, which is still working fine... Has anybody got any suggestions to get Anhk working again - without uninstalling msysgit? Thanks

Visual Studio 2010 Database Projects: Are there any videos/tutorials or comments about the new Datab

I have recently upgraded to Visual Studio 2010. I have kept database projects separate to application projects. The database project was converted from and old DPR project and added a whole lot of additional folder. I deleted those, but now I suspect I need to recreate the project as these new projects work very differently. Now that I have need to update scripts, it seems I can even paste new SQL files into the project so am a bit stuck. Are there any tutorials / walkthrough that show the basics on starting and creating a database project? Or even better a video? Also if there are any tips and tricks or comments on this, I will be happy to hear them?

SSRS Tablix Header Row Formatting

I've got several reports and they have been built with various formatting. Nothing huge just the header row is different between them. I'd like to pick a standard and just update the reports so they all look the same. This can be done on a textbox by textbox basis - setting the font, font color, font size and background color. It seems like I should be able to select more than one textbox and set the formatting on them all at once but the "textbox properties" item is disabled when I've selected more than one. Any thoughts?

Computer Spec: Windows 7 Running processes: 46 Running threads: +/- 650 NVidia GeForce 9200M GS Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26Ghz Game-spec with normal run: Memory: between 80 MB and 110 MB CPU: between 9% and 20% CPU when time rewinding: 90% The same values for the debugging session, except when I rewind the time: CPU: 20%. Is there any reason for? Is there a way to reach the same performance with a normal run. We need to create a simple web service in ASP.NET that can be called from PHP or other languages. This in turn will be used to update records in a database for an item submission. The core part is fairly simple, we have a base set of fields for the object - first name, last name, birth date, city, etc. In addition however we need to accept a list of items associated with that object that can range from 0-n. Jan 1 2009, ABC May 1 2010, 123 Jun 30 2010, XXXXX What would be the best way to structure this so it can be easily passed to the ASP.NET web service and processed as a single call for the entire object? How to load a page with its default values after a postback

I'm creating user controls that i will put into an update panel and make them visible only when required using triggers. Once visible it will float in a dialog box so it has a close button which will just hide the control on client side. The controls have multiple post back states, like a wizard, i'm using a multi view control to accomplish that. My problem is that once the user is at step number two in the control, if the user closes the dialog, than opens the dialog again, (note that the control is made visible on the server and reloaded by updating the updatepanel) the second step will still be displayed. The reason is . because whenever there is a postback the control will load its state using the viewstate, even if EnableViewState is false it will still load it using the LoadControlState method. so my quesion is how can i force a user control to load fresh with its default values without any postback data.

Deployment project not updating .exe

I have a Winforms project with a single .exe file as the primary output. I'm using a deployment project to distribute it, but the .exe file is not being updated when the new version is installed, meaning I have to ask the users to manually uninstall and then install the new version. Here's what I'm doing: I increment the assembly version on the output project (which is the primary output of the deployment project) I increment the deployment project version (and update the product code when prompted) The deployment project is set to remove previous versions the 'Permanent' property on the .exe is set to False I'm sure I've done this before successfully, but I can't seem to do it now. What am I doing wrong? Edit: I got it to work by changing the file version in the project properties, as in this answer

Where are my $_FILES? Ajax Uploading

If I output print_r($_POST), the parameters are sent properly, but only the file name of the image. So it seems the files themselves are not being sent along. How do I handle this? Thanks Rich

Fixing warning from git

I've been doing a workflow of making a git repository on a remote central repository, cloning that repo on my local dev machine, doing some work, and then pushing the changes back to the same repo on the remote server. However, and I believe this was after an update I did to git recently, after pushing up a change, I'm getting the following warning: Counting objects: 2724, done. Can someone explain to me exactly what this warning means, and what I'm doing wrong in my workflow to not receive this warning?

Activator.CreateInstance fails in Windows Service

I have an issue with a Windows Service which throws a NullReference exception whenever I try to use var myType = Activator.CreateInstance(typeof(MyType)) There is no problem whenever I run the exact same code in a console window - and after debugging the obvious "which user is running this code" I doubt that it is a mere fact of changing the user running the service as I've tried to run the service using the computer's Administrator account as well as LocalSystem. I'm suspecting a Windows Update fiddling with default user rights but that's a bit of a desperate guess I feel. Remember: The type and assembly exist and works fine - otherwise I wouldn't be able to run the code in a console window. It is only when running in the context of a Windows Service I get an error. The question is: Can I in any way impersonate i.e. LocalSystem in a unittest by creating a GenericPrincipal (how would that GenericPrincipal look)?

What emoticons can you put into class names in your language?

I've just had a "discussion" with a developer about naming classes in C#. My final throw away line was, "Let's not put any emoticons in our class names." I can't think of a way you could put emoticons in C# class names, but I haven't thought too hard about it. Is this possible? Does any programming language allow it? What would be the best/worst language to be able to perform this in? Update: The Scheme answer bests answers my question. It was a quick idea after a quick discussion so I'm going to accept after a short amount of time and then move on with my life. Thanks for the responses.

I am using the WMI namespace exchange_publicfolder to try and add an Exchange server (using the servers DN) to the AddReplica procedure. Every time I run this I get an invalid parameter as an exception. Below is the code that I am using to do this. Bash script "read" not pausing for user input when executed from SSH shell

I'm new to Bash scripting, so please be gentle. I'm connected to a Ubuntu server via SSH (PuTTY) and when I run this command, I expect the bash script that downloads and executes to allow user input and then echo that input. It seems to just write out the echo label for the input request and terminate. wget -O - https://raw.github.com/aaronhancock/pub/master/bash/readtest.sh | bash Any clue what I might be doing wrong? Hi I have a controller named "places" with some actions like "view", "new", "create" When a user goes to mysite.com/places I want to execute the action "show" of another controller called "cores" So I've put this in the routes.rb file: map.connect '/:id/show', :controller => "cores", :action => "show" But it doesn't work. A strange problem using jquery in IE6.

I am using jquery load method to update divs , it works great until I test my code under IE6. The problem is : under IE6 , when I click a button to trigger a load method , the page is remaining unchanged until I move my cursor, that means if I click my mouse and keep my hand away from the mouse , the page is unchanged , if I move the mouse , the page is updated. This problem is only occurred under IE6 . IE7 , IE8, Firefox all have no problem. Have you guys ever encountered this kind of problem ?

Is possible to auto-import a module from a diferent subfolder in other subfolder?

I have a kind of plugin system, with this layout: - Python -- SDK -- Plugins ---- Plugin1 ---- Plugin2 All 3 have a __init__.py file. I wonder if is possible to be able to do import SDK from any plugin (as if SDK was in the site-packages folder). I'm in a situation where need to deploy, update, delete, add or change SDK files or any of the plugins under non-admin accounts, and wonder if I can get SDK in a clean way (I could sys.path.append in all plugins but I wonder if exist a better option). I imagine that using this in the Plugins init coulkd work: import sys import os ROOT_DIR = os.path.abspath(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__),'..')) print ROOT_DIR sys.path.append( ROOT_DIR ) But clearly is not executed this code (I imagine init was auto-magicalled executed in the load of the module :( )

Best way to handle SQL Server fulltext index updates

Hi all, I have a fulltext index which doesn't need to be immediately up-to-date, I'd like to spare myself the I/O (when I do bulk updates, I see a ton of I/O related to the index) and do the index updates during low usage times (nightly, perhaps even weekly). It seems there are two ways to go about this: Turn off change tracking (SET CHANGE_TRACKING OFF) and add a timestamp field to the indexed table, so that you can run alter fulltext index on <table> start INCREMENTAL population, or Enable change tracking, but set it to MANUAL, so that you can run alter fulltext index on <table> start UPDATE population when you need it updated. Is there a preferred method? I couldn't tell from this overview if there was a performance benefit one way or the other. Tom
