• How to get a debug flow of execution in C++

  Hi, I work on a global trading system which supports many users. Each user can book,amend,edit,delete trades. The system is regulated by a central deal capture service. The deal capture service informs all the user of any updates that occur. The problem comes when we have crashes, as the production environment is impossible to re-create on a test system, I have to rely on crash dumps and log files. However this doesn't tell me what the user has been doing. I'd like a system that would (at the time of crashing) dump out a history of what the user has been doing. Anything that I add has to go into the live environment so it can't impact performance too much. Ideas wise I was thinking of a MACRO at the top of each function which acted like a stack trace (only I could supply additional user information, like trade id's, user dialog choices, etc ..) The system would record stack traces (on a per thread basis) and keep a history in a cyclic buffer (varying in size, depending on how much history you wanted to capture). Then on crash, I could dump this history stack. I'd really like to hear if anyone has a better solution, or if anyone knows of an existing framework? Thanks Rich

  hello all i have the following piece of code, that im looking forward to optimize, since i'm consuming gobs of memory this routine is heavily used first optimization would be to move the stringbuilder construction out of the download routine and make it a field of the class, then i would clear it inside the routine can you please suggest any other optimization or point me in the direction of some resources that could help me with this (web articles, books, etc). i'm thinking about replacing the stringbuilder by a fixed (much larger) size buffer ... or perhaps create a larger sized stringbuilder thanks in advance.   My only real exposure to the ideas of REST has been through Ruby on Rails' RESTful routing. This has suited me well for the kind of CRUD-based applications I have built with Rails, but consequently my understanding of RESTfulness is somewhat limited. Let's say we have a finite collection of Items, each of which has a unique ID, and a number of properties, such as colour, shape, and size (which might be undefined for some Items). Items can be used by a client for a period of time, but each Item can only be used by one client at once. Access to Items is regulated by a server. Clients can request the temporary use of certain items from a server. Usually, clients will only be interested in getting access to a number of Items with particular properties, rather than getting access to specific Items. When a client requests use of a number of Items, the server responds with a list of IDs corresponding to the request, or with a response that says that the requested Items are not currently available or do not exist. A client can make the following kinds of request: Tell me how many green triangle Items there are (in total/available). Give me use of 200 large red Items. I have finished with Items 21, 23, 23. Add 100 new red square Items. Delete 50 small green Items. Modify all big yellow pentagon Items to be blue. The toy example above is like a resource allocation problem I have had to deal with recently. How should I go about thinking about it RESTfully?

For that matter, I’ve registered my theme inside template.php file which reside in my theme folder. • Can we solve the table row background image problem, in chrome, in multi celled tables??

  It is frequently asked – but I haven’t seen a good answer yet (and I looked). If you set a background image in CSS to a table row- the image will repeat itself in every cell. If you set the position: relative (for the row) and set the background-image: none (for the cells) it solves the problem on IE but not on chrome! I can't use background positioning since there are many calls and their size varies. (And the picture is not symmetrical- It's a fade out from one side. Anybody?? Example for the css code : tr { height: 30px; position:relative;} tr.green {background: url('green_30.png') no-repeat left top;} tr.orange {background: url('oranger_30.png') no-repeat left top;} tr.red {background: url('red_30.png') no-repeat left top;} td {background-image:none;} The HTML is basic - A multi cell table. • Dimension Reduction in Categorical Data with missing values

  I have a regression model in which the dependent variable is continuous but ninety percent of the independent variables are categorical(both ordered and unordered) and around thirty percent of the records have missing values(to make matters worse they are missing randomly without any pattern, that is, more that forty five percent of the data hava at least one missing value). There is no a priori theory to choose the specification of the model so one of the key tasks is dimension reduction before running the regression. While I am aware of several methods for dimension reduction for continuous variables I am not aware of a similar statical literature for categorical data (except, perhaps, as a part of correspondence analysis which is basically a variation of principal component analysis on frequency table). Let me also add that the dataset is of moderate size 500000 observations with 200 variables. I have two questions. Is there a good statistical reference out there for dimension reduction for categorical data along with robust imputation (I think the first issue is imputation and then dimension reduction)? This is linked to implementation of above problem. I have used R extensively earlier and tend to use transcan and impute function heavily for continuous variables and use a variation of tree method to impute categorical values. I have a working knowledge of Python so if something is nice out there for this purpose then I will use it. Any implementation pointers in python or R will be of great help. Thank you.

• MATLAB: svds() not converging

  So using MATLAB's svds() function on some input data as such: [U, S, V, flag] = svds(data, nSVDs, 'L') I noticed that from run to run with the same data, I'd get drastically different output SVD sizes from run to run. When I checked whether 'flag' was set, I found that it was, indicating that the SVDs had not converged. My normal system here would be that if it really needs to converge, I'd do something like this: flag = 1 svdOpts = struct('tol', 1e-10, 'maxit', 600, 'disp', 0); while flag: if svdOpts.maxit > 1e6 error('There''s a real problem here.') end [U, S, V, flag] = svds(data, nSVDs, 'L', svdOpts) svdOpts.maxit = svdOpts.maxit*2 end But from what I can tell, when you use 'L' as the third argument, the fourth argument is ignored, meaning I just have to deal with the fact that it's not converging? I'm not even really sure how to use the 'sigma' argument in place of the 'L' argument. I've also tried reducing the number of SVDs calculated to no avail. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated. EDIT While following up on the comments below, I found that the problem had to do with the way I was building my data matrices. Turned out I had accidentally inverted a matrix and had an input of size (4000x1) rather than (20x200), which was what was refusing to converge. I also did some more timing tets and found that the fourth argument was not, in fact, being ignored, so that's on me. Thanks for the help guys.

That works, but the real problem it's that I cant afect an marker cause I don't know how to call it and modify this marker. • CSS - Why is this invisible margin being applied to my <a> tag css-button?

  I was having trouble with two types of buttons. It was a form button and a css button basically. And I was advised that the css button whould use display:inline-block; This made the whole a href tag actually look like a button. But this invisible margin seems to be screwing up something. I tried separating them into separate css classes, but oddly, applying a real margin to the css button gives an additional margin as well. What's causing this?   I am using prepared statement for bulk insertion of records. Iam iterating a list which contains values and their dataTypes differ. One of the data type is BigDecimal and when i try to set calling preparedstatement, it is throwing null pointer exception.   I use a GridView to display the records from the database. Also i've attached a Hyperlink to the GridView using TemplateField. When I try to add "onclick" attribute to the HyperLink inside the RowDateBound event, I get the following error.. • tcp/ip accept not returning, but client does

  server: vxworks 6.3 calls the usual socket, bind, listen, then: for (;;) { client = accept(sfd,NULL,NULL); // pass client to worker thread } client: .NET 2.0 TcpClient constructor to connect to server that takes the string hostname and int port, like: TcpClient client = new TcpClient(server_ip, port); This is working fine when the server is compiled and executed in windows (native c++). intermittently, the constructor to TcpClient will return the instance, without throwing any exception, but the accept call in vxWorks does not return with the client fd. tcpstatShow indicates no accept occurred. What could possibly make the TcpClient constructor (which calls 'Connect') return the instance, while the accept call on the server not return? It seems to be related to what the system is doing in the background - it seems more likely to get this symptom to occur when the server is busy persisting data to flash or an NFS share when the client attempts to connect, but can happen when it isn't also. I've tried adjusting priority of the thread running accept I've looked at the size of the queue in 'listen'. There's enough. The total number of file descriptors available should be enough (haven't validated this yet though, first thing in the morning)

• Algorithm to determine indices i..j of array A containing all the elements of another array B

  I came across this question on an interview questions thread. Here is the question: Given two integer arrays A [1..n] and B[1..m], find the smallest window in A that contains all elements of B. In other words, find a pair < i , j such that A[i..j] contains B[1..m]. If A doesn't contain all the elements of B, then i,j can be returned as -1. The integers in A need not be in the same order as they are in B. If there are more than one smallest window (different, but have the same size), then its enough to return one of them. Example: A[1,2,5,11,2,6,8,24,101,17,8] and B[5,2,11,8,17]. The algorithm should return i = 2 (index of 5 in A) and j = 9 (index of 17 in A). Now I can think of two variations. Let's suppose that B has duplicates. This variation doesn't consider the number of times each element occurs in B. It just checks for all the unique elements that occur in B and finds the smallest corresponding window in A that satisfies the above problem. For example, if A[1,2,4,5,7] and B[2,2,5], this variation doesn't bother about there being two 2's in B and just checks A for the unique integers in B namely 2 and 5 and hence returns i=1, j=3. This variation accounts for duplicates in B. If there are two 2's in B, then it expects to see at least two 2's in A as well. If not, it returns -1,-1. When you answer, please do let me know which variation you are answering. Pseudocode should do. Please mention space and time complexity if it is tricky to calculate it. Mention if your solution assumes array indices to start at 1 or 0 too. Thanks in advance.

• Dropdown not working in some IE 6 browsers

  We unfortunately find ourselves having to support our product in IE 6 because some of our largest users use it. One of them called today and told me that one of the dropdowns doesn't work when he clicks on it - it simply selects the first item. I checked the markup and the entire contents of the select control are being sent: <select onchange="SDateFilter_S('#ctlDateRange')" size="1" name="ctlDateRange" style="width:100px;"> <option selected="selected" value="0"> All Dates </option><option value="1"> Within </option><option value="2"> Before </option><option value="3"> After </option><option value="4"> Between </option><option value="5"> Last </option><option value="6"> Since </option> </select> This is done in ASP .NET but I am fairly certain the issue isn't with ASP .NET as when I try it in my copy of IE 6, it works correctly. Do you have any idea what would cause a dropdown list in some copies of IE 6 to effectively not work?

  Is there a way to specify a packet-based protocol in XML, so (de)serialization can happen automatically? The context is as follows. I have a device that communicates through a serial port. It sends and receives a byte stream consisting of 'packets'. A packet is a collection of elementary data types and (sometimes) other packets. Some elements of packets are conditional; their inclusion depends on earlier elements. I have a C# application that communicates with this device. Naturally, I don't want to work on a byte-level throughout my application; I want to separate the protocol from my application code. Therefore I need to translate the byte stream to structures (classes). Currently I have implemented the protocol in C# by defining a class for each packet. These classes define the order and type of elements for each packet. Making class members conditional is difficult, so protocol information ends up in functions. Is there a way to separate protocol and code, even if packets 'include' other packets and have conditional elements?

• [php,mysql] insert only adds upto 1000 records and ignoresall records after that.

  Hello i have a large database where the client stores personal messages and fire email notifications [if allowed by the users]. certain users have the option of sending messages to their entire network of friends. some users have over 5000 friends in their network so if they select the whole network they'll be sending messages to over 5000 friends and system will store all the messages into a table. the problem is this that it does not insert more than 1000 records and ignores all inserts after the first 1000. i have increased the packet size, bulk_insert_buffer_size but still no luck. since the system stores some of the info in another table for reports, every insert returns its new message id. due to this i can not use the "insert into table (column1,column2) values (value1,value2) , (value1,value2)....etc." table engine is innodb, mysql version is 5.1.3 and is hosted on amazon web services. all i want is to fix this issue of inserting more than 1000 records at a time. as mentioned earlier, it works fine but only up to 1000 records and simply ignores all the records after that. i'm using php foreach(){} to insert message for each friend and if email is available, send notification to the user. this foreach(){} also inserts the same record in another table [with only 3 columns] for generating reports. thank you in advance for all the help and support. • Time gaps between host clEnqueue_xxx calls

  Consider these OpenCL calls (3 memcpy DtoH, 4313 cl_float elements each): clEnqueueReadBuffer(CommandQueue, SpectrumAbsMem, CL_FALSE, 0, SpectrumMemSize, SpectrumAbs, 0, NULL, NULL); clEnqueueReadBuffer(CommandQueue, SpectrumReMem, CL_FALSE, 0, SpectrumMemSize, SpectrumRe, 0, NULL, NULL); clEnqueueReadBuffer(CommandQueue, SpectrumImMem, CL_FALSE, 0, SpectrumMemSize, SpectrumIm, 0, NULL, NULL); When I analyze these with the NVIDIA visual profiler, I see that the actual memcpy operation only takes 8 us, but there is a significant gap of around 130 us after each memcpy. I'm already using the supposedly asynchronous method (the CL_FALSE in the argument list). When I use only one operation, but with three times the size, the operation is way faster. Why is the time gap between the actual memcpy operations so huge, whereas the gap between the kernel execution (exactly before these three operations) and the first memcpy is only 7us? Can I get rid of it, or do I need to accumulate more data before starting a memcpy? If so, is there a convenient way how I could combine mutliple arrays into a single contiguous block of memory, but still have a cl_mem object as a separate device memory pointer to each section?

• Upload file using jquery dialog not working

  i want to upload file using jquery dialog. I have created a partial view and showing that partial view in the dialog. The problem is, when I directly browse the partial view and upload a file, it works perfect. BUT when I put the partial view inside a jquery dialog, it submits the form, but don't submits the file. So i have null value. I really dont understand what is the difference here!!
