  • Why am I getting a segmentation fault when I use binmode with threads in Perl?

    - by jAndy
    Hi Folks, this call my $th = threads->create(\&print, "Hello thread World!\n"); $th->join(); works fine. But as soon as I add binmode(STDOUT, ":encoding(ISO-8859-1)"); to my script file, I get an error like "segmentation fault", "access denied". What is wrong to define an encoding type when trying to call a perl thread? Example: use strict; use warnings; use threads; binmode(STDOUT, ":encoding(ISO-8859-1)"); my $th = threads->create(\&print, "Hello thread World!\n"); $th->join(); sub print { print @_; } This code does not work for me. Kind Regards --Andy

  • Benefits of migrating my work to a new web development framework?

    - by John
    When I first started programming with PHP, I was ignorant of other php frameworks (like code igniter, cake php, etc...). So I fell into the trap of re-inventing wheels, which had the benefit of being "fun" and "educational". Overtime, I discovered other open source products that I found useful, like smarty templating engine, jquery library, tcpdf library, fdf etc...so I started bundling these technologies along with things I've built over the years into a LAMP development framework to make life easier for myself. This pass year, I've been having fun developing on the code igniter framework. It does many of the things I do in my framework. Coding in CI feels natural because the MVC and ORM feels similar to the MVC and ORM of my framework. So now I'm contemplating migrating a lot of the plugins in my framework over to CI. The pros and cons I can think of for such a project are: Pros: benefit from the vast community of CI developers lots of other developers will be familiar with it better documentation Cons: I've built a lot of useful plugins against my own framework, and it will take a lot of time to move even just the essential ones at the moment, I still, work faster against my own framework than CI, just because I'm more familiar with it even if I did migrate to CI, there will always be newer and better frameworks in the near future, and i'll be contemplating this scenario again So my question is the following: perhaps I should leave my old framework as is, and for each new project I receive, I make a decision on whether the requirements are best served by developing with CI or my own framework. Is this the right approach?

  • How can I retrieve CSV data from a web server using Flex?

    - by samoz
    I am trying to retrieve a stock quote from Yahoo! finance using Flex. I currently have it set so that it will pull the quote like I want, but it opens it in a new file. However, I want to store the CSV data in a variable so that I can use it in my program. How do I do this? Here is the code that I am using right now: navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=aapl&f=l1"),"_self");

  • How do I open a web browser from a .NET Program? Process.Start() isn't working?

    - by Scott Whitlock
    I have a URL and I want to launch it in the default browser. I've tried two methods: Process.Start("http://stackoverflow.com"); ... and the one detailed in this other question using ShellExecute. In both cases I get the error: Windows cannot find 'http://stackoverflow.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. It shouldn't be trying to open it as a file though... from what I understand, it should recognize it as a URL and open it in the default browser. What am I missing? By the way: OS = Vista, and .NET = 3.5 EDIT: According to this MS KB article, since Process.Start sets the UseShellExecute by default, it should launch the default browser.

  • What is IPKVM and why would I need that to install SQL Server on my Web Server?

    - by Eric
    Hello. I have a dedicated server, and will be installing SQL Server. However, my hosting company said they can connect an external CD ROM drive and give me KVM over IP to install SQL Server. My question is, what is IPKVM, and how does it work? Do I need special hardware or software on my side to use it....or do I just connect via remote desktop? Also, why can't I remote into my server through remote desktop instead of using KVM over IP?

  • Spring/Hibernate: InvocationTargetException when deleting entity

    - by niklassaers
    I'm sorry if this question is a bit vague, but I'm quite confused. I've got a controller that calls a service to delete an entity and then create an entity in its place. In the service, I've got my DAO, and my entity, and I want to delete my entity, so I call DAO.delete(entity); Then, seemingly out of nowhere, I get an InvocationTargetException. The parameters here are: method: public org.springframework.web.servlet.ModelAndView tld.myproject.view.web.controller.MyController.replaceEntity(org.springframework.web.multipart.MultipartFile,javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest) target: tld.myproject.view.web.controller.MyController@185918e args: [org.springframework.web.multipart.commons.CommonsMultipartFile@14812a6, org.springframework.web.multipart.support.DefaultMultipartHttpServletRequest@c08a64] ex: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException private Object doInvokeMethod(Method method, Object target, Object[] args) throws Exception { ReflectionUtils.makeAccessible(method); try { return method.invoke(target, args); } catch (InvocationTargetException ex) { ReflectionUtils.rethrowException(ex.getTargetException()); } throw new IllegalStateException("Should never get here"); } Does anyone have a suggestion to what's going on? Anything I can use in my debugging? Cheers Nik

  • RESTful web services - best way to return result of an operation?

    - by saille
    I am designing a RESTful API and I would like to know what the most RESTful way is to return details about an operation. E.g. an operation on a resource occurs when some data is POSTed to a URL. HTTP status codes will indicate either success or failure for the operation. But apart from success/failure I need to indicate some other info to the client, such as an ID number. So my question is, should the ID number be returned in an XML document in the response content, or should it be returned in some custom HTTP header fields? Which is more in line with the principles of REST? Or am I free to choose.

  • help merging perl code routines together for file processing

    - by jdamae
    I need some perl help in putting these (2) processes/code to work together. I was able to get them working individually to test, but I need help bringing them together especially with using the loop constructs. I'm not sure if I should go with foreach..anyways the code is below. Also, any best practices would be great too as I'm learning this language. Thanks for your help. Here's the process flow I am looking for: -read a directory -look for a particular file -use the file name to strip out some key information to create a newly processed file -process the input file -create the newly processed file for each input file read (if i read in 10, I create 10 new files) Sample Recs: col1,col2,col3,col4,col5 [email protected],[email protected],8,2009-09-24 21:00:46,1 [email protected],[email protected],16,2007-08-18 22:53:12,33 [email protected],[email protected],16,2007-08-18 23:41:23,33 Here's my test code: Target Filetype: `/backups/test/foo101.name.aue-foo_p002.20110124.csv` Part 1: my $target_dir = "/backups/test/"; opendir my $dh, $target_dir or die "can't opendir $target_dir: $!"; while (defined(my $file = readdir($dh))) { next if ($file =~ /^\.+$/); #Get filename attributes if ($file =~ /^foo(\d{3})\.name\.(\w{3})-foo_p(\d{1,4})\.\d+.csv$/) { print "$1\n"; print "$2\n"; print "$3\n"; } print "$file\n"; } Part 2: use strict; use Digest::MD5 qw(md5_hex); #Create new file open (NEWFILE, ">/backups/processed/foo$1.name.$2-foo_p$3.out") || die "cannot create file"; my $data = ''; my $line1 = <>; chomp $line1; my @heading = split /,/, $line1; my ($sep1, $sep2, $eorec) = ( "^A", "^E", "^D"); while (<>) { my $digest = md5_hex($data); chomp; my (@values) = split /,/; my $extra = "__mykey__$sep1$digest$sep2" ; $extra .= "$heading[$_]$sep1$values[$_]$sep2" for (0..scalar(@values)); $data .= "$extra$eorec"; print NEWFILE "$data"; } #print $data; close (NEWFILE);

  • Web app that contains a check-list based task management UI?

  • In search of a packaged .Net security solution for web-forms.

    - by Chuck Conway
    We are looking for a security solution for asp.net that has security down to the control level. This is not a necessity but, it would be nice. At the very least it needs to extend-able to allow for control level permissions. The solution should have an administration panel of some sort. It also needs to support roles, groups, and individual permissions. We haven't seen anything like this in the marketplace -- we are in the process of rolling our own solution. We'd rather use an off the shelf solution.

  • What is the equivalent to IScriptControl for Web.UI.Page?

    - by Jeff Dege
    We've been using IScriptControl to tie javascript objects to our UserControls and ServerControls, and it's worked fine. The problem is that ASP.NET seems to provide no method to tie a javascript object to a Page. Up to now, we've been putting plain functions in the global namespace, but I am developing a serious allergy to that practice. It'd be easy enough to wrap our functions into a javascript class, and to include the javascript file on the page, but how to instantiate the object, how to reference it from callback events, and how to pass data to it from the code-behind, I haven't figured out. Or rather, the methods we've been using up to now (hidden fields, emitted javascript strings, etc.), really bug me. Anyone have better ideas?

    I'm building a website that needs to support different language translations. I have strings in PHP, JavaScript and Smarty Template files that need to translated. I want to use something like PHP's gettext() function and have a single language file for each locale. This is easy when the translatable strings are in the PHP files but I also have text in the Smarty Templates and JavaScript files that also need to be translated. I really want one single file that holds all the translatable strings. What is the best way to achieve this?

  • How am I supposed to deploy an ASP.NET MVC 4.0 website?

    - by Matt Frear
    What's the recommended way to deploy a website created with ASP.NET 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010? I've previously always added a web setup project to my solution, and used that to create an MSI, even for small applications. But when I build a web setup project in VS2010 it kind of works but some stuff still seems broken: 1. I need to turn on IIS 6 Compatibility on a Win 2008 R2 box to get the msi to run. 2. The msi includes web.config, web.debug.config, and web.release.config. I thought VS's web.config transformations was supposed to take care of that. -Matt
