• restore content database in sharepoint server 2007

  I have a site collection set up at web app running at port 80. I have made the backup of the site collection content db using stsadm.exe tool. Now, I want to restore that backup as a new content db of a different site collection - the one set up at web app running at port 500. I have done the following: Created a backup Created new web app at port 500 (I did not create a site collection for this web app) I have removed the content db of that new web app using Central Administration I have run the stsadm.exe -o addcontentdb -url webapp-at-port-500 -databasename Command is successfully completed, however when I check the Content Database page for that web app, it says that the Number of Sites is 0! Also, when I try to open http://webapp-at-port-500, I get the error saying that the webpage cannot be found. Could anyone please help me, it's driving me crazy. Thanks.

• can't listen to tips on bill Jelen podcast disc

  Hi all, appreciate any suggestions you can offer. Am using windows 7-64 bit--have the bill Jelen disc with his podcasts on it. Can open the disc, select the podcast I want to listen to -it shows up on my screen but there seems to be no place to click to have the podcast acutally start running. Have used this disc before with xp and windows-not 64- and had no problem- would just click on the podcast and it would start to play. Would try on my other computer that it worked on but that computer is dead. Any ideas?? thanks

• VPN only connects to its server!

  Hi guys; Previously I bought a windows 2003 VPS and enabled routing and remote access so that users can make a vpn connection. I turend the firewall off and everything was working fine. But since 2 days ago whenever I try and connect to vpn it connects to vpn without any problem and I can see the connection status however it only connects to the server I mean what I can do with this vpn is to connect to the server via remote desktop and I can ping only the server's IP, neither I can open any webpages in browsers or ping other IP addresses beside the server one! I've also rebuilt the server and configured it for routing access and vpn connection from the beginning but it doesn't work either. It seems that server fails to route the traffic properly, as i'm sure that the firewall has been turned off I can't figure out what's the reason, any idea what's going on? Thanks in advance

• Running a small IPTV station

  I'm looking to run an iptv station for my dorm. I know I can serve multicast so that's not a problem. The station will serve out podcasts and other cc licensed content. The target endpoint is xbmc- a media center. So far I know that I need to serve an rtp stream over udp that's streaming an mpeg-4 avc main or high profile with aac ( or ac3 ?) audio. I've had some luck using vlc with vlm to stream but it seems limited. What are my other options?  Everything has to run on Linux- hopefully open source. How can I use playlists and not live streams? What are my software options?

  I'm looking for a FOSS web-based library management application. I want to manage the few books we have at our company, and I'm looking for applications that provide a simple web interface to: Add new books. Search for books. (Not Required) Place holds on books. My ideal would be something like Delicious Library, but web based and open source. I've looked at Koha (which I could not install), Emilda, which seems to be a dead project (last emails are from 2006 and I could not install it) and VuFind which looks awesome but doesn't provide (or I could not find) an interface to add new records to the library. Any suggestions?

• Gateway time out connecting to tethered server from Android

  I've got an Android device running android-wifi-tether. It works as advertised. I connect to it from my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop running Apache 2.2.22. The laptop is manually configured to IP 192.168.2.100 in the hosts file. It can ping itself and access it's own web server through that address. The WiFi tether hotspot gives the laptop the same 192.168.2.100 address(Laptop was configured to match the hotspot address as a troubleshooting step, and could be wrong.) Using ping I can ping the laptop from the phone using the 192.168.2.100 address. Using portscan the phone shows port 80 open on the 192.168.2.100 address. So, everything looks like it's in place, but any attempt to browse to http://192.168.2.100 fails after a few moments with a 504(Gateway time out) Any help would certainly be help.

• Best way to fix security problems caused by windows updates?

  I have a laptop running Windows 7 32-bit. Last nights security updates caused my logitech mouse to stop working (specifically, it caused several USB ports to stop altogether). After reviewing the system event log I found that the IPBusEnum component was failing due to an activation security error. A little more research and I found that this was caused by the TrustedInstaller replacing the security permissions on those keys and generally mucking them up. To fix this I had to open regedit, take ownership of ALL the keys related to IPBusEnum and force it to use the inherited permissions from the tree. Is there a better way to fix this when MS screws up the updates? I would hate to have to walk around to a number of machines and manually fix the registry key security settings.

• When using grep from VIM, how to jump to results?

  When using the grep plugin to VIM, I can search the current directory for all occurrences of a string within a set of files, like this: :grep Ryan *.txt This outputs something like this: file1.txt:3:Ryan was here file2.txt:10:Ryan likes VIM file3.txt:5:superuser.com is a fav of Ryan (1 of 3): Ryan was here Press ENTER or type command to continue If I press enter, it just takes me back to my editor. What I really want to do is be able to open up one of those files and jump to the place where the string was found. Is there a way to do this? The 1 of 3 part makes me think there's a way to tab through the results, but I don't know what commands are available to me. Can anybody shed some light on this?

• Synchronize pasteboard between remote tmux session and local Mac OS pasteboard

  Setup: I use iTerm2 on MacOS to connect to a remote server. The remote server runs tmux, in which I open files and edit in vim sessions. Problem: I can't copy/paste between the remote tmux session and the local iTerm client. I can use iTerm 2's alt/option + mouse selection to select text, but this copies over multiple vim panes/tmux panes - bad. Is there any elegant solution to make selections in tmux panes synchronize between the remote pasteboard and the local (MacOS pasteboard)? I've seen reattach-to-user-namespace, but I'm pretty certain it doesn't do what I want.

• Folder Redirection - Explorer requires manual refresh

  Hello, I am having an issue where - when a users my documents folder is redirected to a DFS share, windows explorer requires a manual refresh after creating a new folder, file, etc. (Interestingly, not when making a new briefcase) I have tried a number of MS knowledge base articles, a hot-fix and a registry change, all with no success. (( http:// support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823291 ; http:// support.microsoft.com/kb/873392 )) The problem only occurs when going through the my documents icon. If I map a home drive for the user to the exact same location (IE - H:\DFS\user\documents) , open that drive and make new folders, then there is no problem. Mapping my documents to H:\ also resolves the issue, however, as we need folder sync and people logging on off site with cached profiles this is not a workable solution (as H: will not map and there will be no access to their docs.) Has anyone managed to figure a fix for this? Thanks, Pete.

• User profile and desktop unclickable and unviewable from windows explorer

  Situation: Windows Vista, latest updates. After restarting to complete an installation, I find myself looking at a totally black windows desktop without any icons. The start menu and taskbar, including quickstart icons, appears. Some, but not all task bar tray icons appear. The systems seems stable. When I open Windows Explorer and click "desktop" in the folder treeview, the cursor immediately jumps back to the previously selected item. No error. Same when clicking on my user's profile or my documents. When I try "save as" in, say, Notepad, nothing happens, the dialog box (which defaults to "my documents") doesn't even show. Again, no error. Nothing serious afaict in the event log. Typing something Start Search shows "Search failed to initialize". Anybody ever encountered such abomination?

  Mozilla says that with Firefox Sync if you are working on one computer with 5 tabs open you can then switch to another computer or device and Sync can or will update the second computer with those tabs. How do I do this? BACKGROUND I have setup Firefox Sync on both devices and they have been synced. How do you sync them again? Is it automatically syncing them in the background? How often? How do you sync the tabs? Are the passwords synced? Documentation The documentation below describes how to add another device or computer to Sync. It says that when you add the device it syncs it. • Identify ENCRYPTED compressed files at the command line

  I have directories with hundreds of RAR files. Currently I use Powershell 2.0 with a script that utilizes WinRAR's RAR utility to decompress the files. The issue is that a small number of the files end up being encrypted, which pauses the script and requires interaction. Is there any way to do one of the following: Identify the encrypted files before trying to decompress Entirely ignore the encrypted files Automate an incorrect (or correct) password that will attempt to open the file, but just skip it if incorrect. NOTE: Some of the compressed files encrypt just file contents, whereas others encrypt file name and file contents. • Error when starting Outlook 2007 on Windows 7

  Every time I start Outlook 2007 SP2 on my Windows 7 box Outlook will look like its loading fine, then I get this error message: cannot start microsoft office outlook. cannot open the outlook window and outlook will close. I was able to get outlook to start by using outlook.exe /resetnavpane in the Start-Search box, a nice tip which I got from this social.microsoft.com page. But it didn't fix the problem since outlook is still complaining when it starts after a reboot. What can I do to get outlook to startup normally?

• How do I setup an FTP server on Windows 7?

  I'm having trouble getting an FTP server setup on Windows 7. I've added the service using Control Panel - Programs - Turn Windows features on and off. I can see the service has started in Control Panel - Services. But then when I fire up a Windows command-line window, cmd, I get Not connected., C:\Users\mattf>ftp localhost ftp> ls Not connected. ftp> open localhost ftp> ls Not connected. ftp> dir Not connected. ftp> quit C:\Users\mattf> And that's as far as I've got. I have no idea why this isn't working - could it be firewall settings?

• Copy-paste stops working on Windows 7

  Copy-paste functionality stops working after about an hour after each reboot on a Windows 7 64-bit system. Running Google Chrome (with gmail and few other tabs open like Calendar, Reader), MS Outlook (which I don't think has anything to do with the problem — I saw it when outlook was off as well), iTunes (9.1.1.12 if it matters). Would appreciate hints where and what for to look in a registry, and ideas for possible fix. That is not an Internet Explorer problem (I don't even run it) — it happens in all applications. Neither Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V nor context menu right-click Copy-Paste (actually, nothing happens on Copy, so there is nothing in a clipboard to Paste) are working. Drag-and-Drop (where supported) continues working though.

• Sun Grid Engine: Automatically Terminating Idle Interactive Jobs

  We're considering using Sun Grid Engine on a small compute cluster. Right now, the current set up is pretty crude and just involves having people ssh to an open machine to run their jobs. We'd like to allow interactive jobs, since that should ease the transition from manually starting jobs to starting them using qsub. But, there is some concern that, if we do, people might accidentally leave their interactive sessions idle and block other jobs from being run on the machines. The issue isn't just theoretical, since we previously tried using OpenPBS and there was a problem with people opening up an interactive job in a screen session and essentially camping on a machine. Is there anyway to configure SGE to automatically kill idle interactive jobs? It looks like this was requested as an enhancement (Issue #:2447) way back in 2007. But, it doesn't seem like the request ever got implemented.

• Ext3 partition doesn't mount on Snow Leopard using MacFUSE

  I'm dual-booting OS X and Ubuntu on a Macbook 4,1. I'm trying to mount my Linux partition in OS X. I installed MacFUSE 2.0.3,2 and fuse-ext2-0.0.7 on Snow Leopard 10.6.5. I created the directory /Volumes/Ubuntu and tried to mount the disk there using the command: fuse-ext2 /dev/disk0s4 /Volumes/Ubuntu/ This is the output I get: fuse-ext2: version:'0.0.7', fuse_version:'27' [main (../../fuse-ext2/fuse-ext2.c:324)] fuse-ext2: enter [do_probe (../../fuse-ext2/do_probe.c:30)] fuse-ext2: Error while trying to open /dev/disk0s4 (rc=13) [do_probe (../../fuse-ext2/do_probe.c:34)] fuse-ext2: Probe failed [main (../../fuse-ext2/fuse-ext2.c:340)] Any clue what's going wrong? • Scheduled task to map a network drive runs, but doesn't map the drive

  I have a task set up to run whenever the computer is logged onto that deletes all network folders and maps a network drive. Here is what is in the batch file: @echo off net use * /delete /y net use b: \\Server\Share /user:DOMAIN\Username password exit When the computer is restarted or logged off and back on, the task runs fine (according to the scheduled tasks window saying when it ran last) but the mapped drive doesn't show up. I'll open the command prompt and type "net use" and it simply says "There are no entries in the list". If I then right click on the task and run it, it works and the mapped drive shows up. I've checked the log and nothing shows up. I've tried adding a timer in the batch file so it waits 10 seconds (ping 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 10000nul) thinking that maybe the network wasn't connected, but that didn't work. What else can I try?   I am trying to open an additional mailbox in Outlook 2003 for one of my users. She already has three additional mailboxes in the list (found in the advanced account settings), and these work fine. When I click the "Add..." button, it immediately reports: The name could not be resolved. The action could not be completed. This is before I am prompted for the name. We're using an externally hosted Exchange 2007 server. How do I resolve this?

• Remote file access.

  Hi, We're needing to provide remote (read/write) access to a number of files on our network to several users (some technical, some non-technical) who will be running Windows. The non technical users will need to be able to access their files in an easy to use manner. From previous experience, we could do this with: (some sort of) VPN SSH and something like Dokan (i've only previously done this on linux with sshfs) WebDav FTP VPN and SSH access are more open that we need at present, so I'm leaning towards webdav, however I only have limited experience of it (setting up an SVN server several years ago), but my understanding is that users can access it through windows explorer. FTP I haven't had much experience of, as I've always used SFTP via ssh - but i'd imagine we could make this work in a similar way to ssh. So my question is - have I missed any obvious candidates for this task, or if webdav is (or isn't) suitable what are the security implications of using it for this (obviously https will be used for the transfers, etc). • Continuing permissions issues - ASP.net, IIS 7, Server 2008 - 0x80070005 (http 500.19) error

  I created an ASP.net MVC developed web application and I am trying to set up IIS. The Error: Http error 500.19, error code 0x80070005, Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions, config file: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\BudgetManagerMain\BudgetManager\web.config If I set the AppPool to use 'administrator' i have no problems and can access the site just fine. If i set to NETWORK SERVICE (or anything else including self-created admin or non-admin user accounts), i get the above error. Things I have tried: identity for Application pool named 'test' is 'NetworkService' Set full access privs for wwwroot and all children files/folders verified effective permissions and NETWORK SERVICE has full access. Authentication on my site is set for anonymous and running under Application Pool Identity I do not have any physical path credentials set on the website confirmed website is set to run under the application pool named 'test' using Process Monitor, here is a summary of what i found on the ACCESS DENIED event EVENT TAB: Class: File System Operation: CreateFile Result: Access Denied Path: ..\web.config Desired Access: Generic Read Disposition: Open Options: Sybnchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory file Attributes: N ShareMode: Read AllocaitonSize: n/a PROCESS TAB ...lots of stuff that seems irrelevant User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE

• What's the best way to know if your web server goes down?

  I noticed my website only got 8 visitors today, which means it probably went down very early this morning and I never noticed. Why it went down is another story. Ideally, I'd like to be emailed if my web server becomes unresponsive or does not return an HTTP 200. Is there either a cloud-based service (either free or pretty cheap) that can monitor your website? If not, is there a good free/open source program I can run on either a Linux or Windows machine that will monitor a website and email me if it goes down? Thanks!

• portable cross-platform WebDAV Client

  I am looking for a portable application that will allow me to do this: Browse a WebDAV share and open a file. Edit the file locally. Save the file, and automatically propagate the change to WebDAV. Is there any CROSS-PLATFORM application out there that will let me do this and exists as a portable? The reason I need this functionality is that I regularily have to access files via WebDAV from public machines where I do not have the neccessary permissions to natively mount a webdav share, or to install the neccessary components.

• Win 7 Privilege Level (Run as administrator) via GP or command line

  Is there a way to set the Privilege Level for legacy software via group policy or on the command line? I have some legacy software, which we unfortunately cannot move away from. This software requires administrator access. I know I can go into the Properties dialog and check "Run this program as an administrator" on every single instance on every single one of my workstations, but that gets old after the 30th install. If I had my way, we would dump this software, find some software that did what we needed, was fully compliant with Win7 security best-practices and give everyone limited user accounts... However, I am not the boss, so everyone gets administrator accounts. Given that, I suppose I could just tell everyone to open the context menu and choose "Run as administrator", but we have some very, very, VERY low-tech users, and half of them might just choose "Delete" instead. Anyone know of a way to set this option on the command line? or better yet, through Group Policy?
