• Transparent control over WM Player ActiveX component in .NET

  I have a Windows media player activex component in my Form. On top of this WM player i have a picturebox with background color set to transparent. When i set an image for this picturebox , thought the image contains transparent areas it is displayed as black when the picturebox is above the WM player component. Where as if i place the PictureBox somewhere else in the form. The transparent area are rendered properly. So is there anyway that i can place a transparent image on top of a WM Player component. (hmm something like watermark may be). I want this picture to be displayed with may be 50% opacity when the video is playing in WM player control. Will GDI+ be of any use in this case?

• How to change language/region in a YQL search.spelling/search.suggestion query?

  Hello, I'm trying to use YQL's spelling and search suggestions, but as much as I try I cant find a way to change the language/region for the query, how is this done? • Yet another Memory Leak Issue (memory is still gone when program terminates)- C program on SLES

  I run my C program on Suse Linux Enterprise that compresses several thousand large files (between 10MB and 100MB in size), and the program gets slower and slower as the program runs (it's running multi-threaded with 32 threads on a Intel Sandy Bridge board). When the program completes, and it's run again, it's still very slow. When I watch the program running, I see that the memory is being depleted while the program runs, which you would think is just a classic memory leak problem. But, with a normal malloc()/free() mismatch, I would expect all the memory to return when the program terminates. But, most of the memory doesn't get reclaimed when the program completes. The free or top command shows Mem: 63996M total, 63724M used, 272M free when the program is slowed down to a halt, but, after the termination, the free memory only grows back to about 3660M. When the program is rerun, the free memory is quickly used up. The top program only shows that the program, while running, is using at most 4% or so of the memory. I thought that it might be a memory fragmentation problem, but, I built a small test program that simulates all the memory allocation activity in the program (many randomized aspects were built in - size/quantity), and it always returns all the memory upon completion. So, I don't think that's it. Questions: Can there be a malloc()/free() mismatch that will lose memory permanently, i.e. even after the process completes? What other things in a C program (not C++) can cause permanent memory loss, i.e. after the program completes, and even the terminal window closes? Only a reboot brings the memory back. I've read other posts about files not being closed causing problems, but, I don't think I have that problem. Is it valid to be looking at top and free for the memory statistics, i.e. do they accurately describe the memory situation? They do seem to correspond to the slowness of the program. If the program only shows a 4% memory usage, will something like valgrind find this problem?

  I am writing HTML to an ASP.NET page (from a web service response), and the HTML has tags. Unfortunately, because the ASP.NET page already has a wrapped around it, a lot of the buttons on the page break. Does anyone know how I can nest the form inside the ASP.NET page without breaking the top-level form? Note: the HTML I am bringing in is a form with a bunch of hidden fields inside of it, and it has to be placed within the ASP.NET page, and thus nested in the top-level form. Thanks

• Alternative to Dispatch for ASP?

  Hi there, we've recently stumbled across the excellent Dispatch for ASP deployment plug in. It looks great apart from one thing: It doesn't work with Visual Studio 2010, at least for us, anyway. (It's supposed to work fine.) (Yes, we've tried everything: We've managed to get Dispatch working for another FTP site, but not the main one we regularly deploy to. We have managed to connect to our main site through FileZilla FTP, so the site itself is configured correctly. All settings have been triple checked, but the software still throws up weird errors (always to do with its internal libraries).) So does anyone know of any other comparable FTP-based, deployment plug-ins for Visual Studio?

  I am debugging a project and Visual Studio stops debugging and closes the program on the following line with no exceptions or error messages (I have enabled notifications for any thrown exceptions in options): var query = Session.Linq<RSS>() .Where(x => x.LastRetrieved <= date || x.LastRetrieved == null) .Where(x => x.Moderated); Where Session.Linq refers to LINQ2NHibernate. Anyway, the question is: what are the possible reasons for such behavior? Tested both on VS 2010 and 2008 - they behave identically just falling out of debugging.

  Occasionally I read news articles that mention about some computer models that computer scientists use to predict winners of some sporting events or the odds for betting which I think there must be a mathematical model behind it. I never bothered to think twice even though I am a "pseudo computer scientist" myself. With the 2010 FIFA World Cup just underway, and since I am also a "pseudo football/soccer player" myself, I just started to wonder about these calculations algorithms. For example, I know one factor is determining the strength of opponents, so that a win against a strong opponent can count more than a win against a weak opponent. But it now kind of gets in a circular loop, or at least how does one determine the strength of a team in the first place, before that team can be considered strong or weak? If it's based on a historical data then there's no way that could be accurate, because those players of the past are no longer on the fields so their impact is none (except maybe if they become coaches like Maradona) Anyway, long question short, if you're happen to be working in this field or have some knowledge, please shed some lights.

  Hello, I am trying to find a way to calculate a duration in days between my, time zone (Central), and (Pacific; Mountain; Eastern). Just do not know where to start. My criteria would be as follows: Cell C5:C100 would be the timestamps in this format:3/18/2010 23:45 but for different dates and times. Cell D5:D100 would be the corresponding timezone in text form: Pacific; Mountain; Eastern; Central. Cell F5 would be where the duration in days would need to be. • Server RAID 5 failed...all I have left is my compiled website

  Yesterday, 2 of the 3 drives in my dev server's RAID 5 decided to die on me (with no warning). I've come to grips with the fact that my data is most likely lost unless I shell out some major bucks for professional data-resortoration. People, don't be an idiot like me and treat your RAID as a data backup! Luckily I published the site about 4 hours before my files went bye-bye. Is there any way to run some [magical] program to restore my compiled site to their original files? Also: I develop on one machine with the files stored on the server...is there some visual studio 2010 web cache on my local machine (the one that didn't crash) that I may be able to use?

• drop down menu will not display outside containing div in IE7..

  I am tearing my hair out over this, I have a dropdown menu using CSS and jQuery (thanks to Soh Tanaka) and it works perfectly in Firefox, Safari, Google chrome and I.E. 8, but in IE 7 it will not drop down outside the 'Banner div'. It drops below the nav div however. I have moved the nav div higher in the banner the result is the same, menu drops until it reaches the border of the banner div and then vanishes.... Below is the css. This is my first website and I have some limited understanding of what I am doing. The drop down menu includes transparent png's as links (I know, I know...but it's what the Boss wants...) please could someone take a quick scan at the below CSS and let me know what is wroong? Is this some form of the IE z-index bug? i have tried all different combinations of z-index and still I can't get a different result. . The html is below as well. • How can I cover up a <div>'s border with another <div>?

  I am trying to move GCLI's input from the bottom of the page to the top. However, I can't get it to look quite right. Why can't I get the .gcli-panel-connector <div> to cover up the .gcli-tt <div>'s border? I think it has something to do with the z-index. • Why does casting to double using "String * 1" fail? Will CDbl(String) work on all systems?

  I have an application which contains the line below to assign a parsed XML value to a variant array. V(2) = latNode.Text * 1 This works fine on my system (Windows 7, Excel 2010) but doesn't work on some other system or systems - and I've not been able to get a response from the user who reported the problem. I've switched out the offending line for: V(2) = CDbl(latNode.Text) This still works on my system, but then I had no problem in the first place. The question is on what systems does the first approach fail and why, and will the second method always work? I'm sure I've used the "Stying * 1" trick elsewhere before and would like to know how concerned I should be about tracking down other occurrences. Thanks.

• Cannot debug tests using Resharper

  Hi, I'm not able to debug my tests using Resharper-Debug option in my project. I have seen this issue raised by lots of people, but has't come across a solid suggestion which solves my issue. The strange thing is that, if I create a sample project and write a simple unit test, I'm able to debug it without any issues.However when I try to do this in my current project, it simply throws a dialog box saying "Cannot Launch Debugger".I have checked this with my peers, and they does't face this issue :( Also I don't have any issues while running the test. Functional Programming seems to be making inroads in all areas, but is this just marketing to create interest in a programming arena where it appears that the state of the art has climaxed too soon. have the sales men got hold of the script, and selling ideas that can be sold, dumbing down the future? I see very old ideas making their way into the market place....what are the truly new things that should be considered fresh and new in 2010 onwards, and not some 1960-1980 idea being refocused.

  I need advise to create a simple port-scanner, who will need to detect if some specific devices are connected to the network from theire IP/MAC address. I am working on windows 7 and can use preferably C++ Builder 2010 Embarcadero, or java or Qt. The library have to be under a public domain or equivalent, as my software is a proprietary software. • Search server 2008 express working with WSS 3.0 (error when crawl second web application (website) s

  My search server 2008 express crawls 3 sharepoint servers and 1 windows file server. The file server and 2 other sharepoint server crawl all content and master and sub sites just fine. On the 3rd sharepoint server the default site crawl just fine...The second web application site (content database) crawls the top site and crawls all sub sites BUT The subsites get the below error in the crawl log. Deleted by the gatherer (The start address or content source that contained this item was deleted and hence this item was deleted.) I have checked the security rights (OK) I have checked the setting to crawl a SharePoint site (if wrong the top site would not work)... ???? Last part = I can crawl 3 other sharepoint sites (web applications/other content databases) on the same server...It seems to be just this one site...

  I'm now on my third full day this week of trying to get OpenCV to work with Python. (I have been trying on and off for the past 6 months).
