• POX return data from WCF Data Services

  I am using WCF Data Services (netfx4) to provide data sourced from SQL via EF, the standard OData mechanism is fine and JSON works as well but I need a third option for generic POX (plain old xml). I have yet to come across a simple strategy or switch that allows me to control this but I am sure one must exist or a workaround method might be available. Any ideas? Ideally I would like to be able to use something like the JSONP option wherein I append 'format=JSON' to the URL, in this case 'format=pox' or 'POX=true' or something of that nature.

• How do I stop IIS7 from putting out its own 404 before my MVC app gets a chance to handle it?

  I have an ASP.NET MVC 2 application, which has an Application_Error event handler in global.asax. In this, I'm detecting the case where the Exception type is HttpException and the HTTP code is 404, and redirecting to my own 404-handling page. This works fine on my Cassini development server, but now I'm trying to move it over to my production server which has IIS7. When I request a non-existent URL, IIS7 is showing its own 404 page, and so far as I can tell, my Application_Error method is never called. How do I fix that?

• CPU consumption of my process

  Hi all I would like to use Performance Monitor to check the CPU consumption of my process. Right now I am working on a MultiCore machine. If I have a look at my process in TASK MANAGER I see that my process consumes 20% of CPU. If I start performance monitor, I select Process--% Processor Time I see values peaking up and over 100%. Do you know why and how to get the real measure? I also looked at the CPU consumption for all of my 4 cores, but I don't know exactly how to attribute consumption to my process. If you can suggest a link or url about how to read CPU usage I would really appreciate! Thanks a lot! AFG

  Using the jQuery Star Rating plugin everything works well until I select a star rating from the rating's callback handler. Simple example: $('.rating').rating({ ... callback: function(value){ $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: ... data: {rating: value}, success: function(data){ $('.rating').rating('select', 1); } }); } }); I'm guessing this infinite loop occurs because the callback is fired after a manual 'select' as well. Once a user submits their rating I'd like to 'select' the average rating across all users (this value is in data returned to the success handler). How can I do this without triggering an infinite loop?

  Hi everyone, i'm trying to realize non-editable QTableView with widgets in cells that should contain clickable listed text. With following code i'm setting widget in definite cell: view = QTableView() label = QLabel( <some html text> ) ... view.setIndexWidget(index, label) I used html to make label's text clickable, but links became blue with underline and moreover by clicking on it with right mouse button appears popup menu with "Copy Link Locaion" option, where i wanted to place some hidden information instead of url and of course do not let user see this info. I'm looking for light-weight widget, i thought that insertion of QGraphicsView in each cell will lead to big computer loads, but can't think of any other solution. I want to perform the inverse: creation of a string from an integer. i.e. I want some function int2base(num,base) such that: int( int2base( X , BASE ) , BASE ) == X the function name/argument order is unimportant For any number X and base BASE that int() will accept. This is an easy function to write -- in fact easier than describing it in this question -- however, I feel like I must be missing something. • jQuery ajax() function is ignoring dataType parameter in Firefox

  I'm trying to use jQuery.ajax() to fetch some html, but Firefox is giving me a "junk after document element" error message. As explained here and here the problem seems to be that Firefox is expecting XML from the server, and when it doesn't parse correctly it throws the error. Here's my ajax code: jQuery.ajax({ url: name, dataType: "html", success: function(result) { console.log(result); }, error: function (jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { console.log(errorThrown); } }); The server returns the html with these response headers: Accept-Ranges bytes Content-Length 2957 Last-Modified Tue, 02 Jul 2013 16:16:59 GMT Note that there's no content-type header. I'm sure that adding one would solve the problem, but that's not an option. The real problem is that Firefox appears to be ignoring the dataType: parameter in the ajax call. I've also tried adding contentType: and accepts: parameters, but it doesn't help. What am I missing here? How do I force Firefox to process the response as plain text?

• ASP.Net MVC2 Client and Server Validation sharing the same code - is it possible?

  With the excellent XVal by Steve Sanderson, it is possible to tell the client side validation to post the value being validated to the server using jquery. A method on the server then uses the same server side code you use for your server side validation, and returns simply a true or false to determine if the field is valid. The advantage of this method is that you write your complex validation logic once in C# code and then put some JQuery plumbing in to tell your client page where to go to access your server validation. I have been reading some blogs on MVC2 but no one seems to mention this functionality. Is it possible to tell the Microsoft MVC validation javascript to call a url validate data? Or do you have to write your own client side validation routines. I should note that using the xVal method a custom validation to say if an email address is in use or not can be run from the client via a JQuery post which accesses the server side validation logic.

  I was wondering how to develop a secure form post through AJAX. For example, i have: My HTML form. My JavaScript handling the submit. The submit url is "post_data.php" The posted data is: id=8&name=Denis The PHP verifies if variables id and name are POSTED and their data type. If this is ok it proceed to do some stuff on a database. My question is, how can i prevent someone from creating his own html form, outside my web site, or whatever, and posting false data to my PHP script? Imagine that data realy exists on my database, this could be bad. Thanks

  Hi People, The problem if someone types into the search box a location it goes through to that location page but if they type in a location thats not found or they dont type anything in I need it to redirect back to the homepage (index.asp) and display "whoops we couldnt find that" in the search box (input field) This is the vb Case Else response.redirect "index.asp?whoops=whoops we couldnt find that" End Select Then in the value of the input field I have value="<% =whoops %>" This doesnt work by the way, first is this the best way of doing it because id rather not have the error message in the url. This there away of posting the error as a variable and then calling it into the input field like, <% =whoops %>

  I have a some draggables in a list of droppables (1 draggable per droppable li). When I move a draggable from one droppable to another free droppable, I want to diable the receiving droppable, and enable the droppable it is leaving from. In firebug the droppable class gets removed – but the functionality of the droppable remains. • Selectively configuring Apache 2 mod_headers for Google Chrome Frame

  I am currently evaluating Google Chrome Frame and so far i'm happy with it, but what i'd like to do is selectively use it for certain sections of my website. Some sections require ActiveX so need to be viewed in native IE, whereas others benefit greatly, and may end up requiring, Chrome Frame. I've currently got the following configured in my apache httpd.conf file - <IfModule mod_setenvif.c> <IfModule mod_headers.c> BrowserMatch chromeframe gcf Header append X-UA-Compatible "chrome=1" env=gcf </IfModule> </IfModule> This causes anything coming in via Apache to get the chrome frame stuff added to the headers. What I need is to make this only happen when a user visits particular URL's / particular pages, which i'm currently controlling via RewriteRules. Could anybody explain how I would go about this, as my understanding of the Apache config files isn't brilliant. Thanks.

• Bulk import 301 redirects in IIS 6.0

  Is there a mechanism, or any additional tools that I can make use of to bulk import 301 redirect rules into an IIS6.0 web application? I want to be able to 301 redirect some old .htm pages to their new home on a CMS to ensure the current search index entries resolve OK and don't 404, but there are roughly ~50 pages. The only way I've found to achieve this is to create dummy .htm files and then right click on the file-File tab-Redirect to a URL radio button within the IIS MMC snapin, which is a little laborious over the number of pages.   I'm loading an external script (that creates a new window component) into a panel, which works fine. Now, I want to access the created window from a callback function to register a closed event handler. I've tried the following: panel.load({ scripts: true, url: '/createWindow', callback: function(el, success, response, options) { panel.findByType("window")[0].on("close", function { alert("Closed"); }); } }); However, the panel seems to be empty all the time, the findByType method keeps returning an empty collection. I've tried adding events handlers for events like added to the panel but none of them got fired. So the question is: how do I access the window in the panel to register my close event handler on it?

So users of the application who control a website can: FTP text and XML files onto their website put a clientaccesspolicy.xml in their root directory enter their URL in the silverlight application at which point the silverlight application then begins reading data from their site. I would like to extend this to less technical users who do not control a website, aren't adept with FTP, etc. What is the best service on the web that: allows users to publish different kinds of data, e.g. put out text files on web allows Silverlight client access (has clientaccesspolicy.xml set up) Some ideas are: free blog services (although then they are limited to a RSS feed, or the silverlight app would have to do some screen scraping) Google Docs? free cloud services? What free services allow easy publishing of any kind of data on the web and allow Silverlight client access?

  I am new to jQuery and I have the following problem. My project has say 2 pages, 1.JSP and 2.html. Now I want to pick selected data from 2.html and use it on 1.JSP. Now this was achieved very easily using .load but I want the data to be present in a JavaScript variable rather than put it on the page (div tags, etc.), so that I can work upon that data (modify or add to database).   geonames.org got a web api you can use to get all the hierarchy for a city. you just enter the id and you will get the data back in xml. http://ws.geonames.org/hierarchy?geonameId=2657896 i wonder how you fetch the url with php and javascript, and which one should i use. cause the id's are in the mysql database. i will get them with php. should i use file_get_contents, curl or fopen? and what function in javascript? jquery $.post? heard that it can only access localhost. would be great with some guidance here and even better with some code examples. thanks!

• Embedding PDF documents into websites

  I need to embed some PDF documents into a website. The last time I did this, I used a jQuery lightbox to popup an iFrame with the PDF document as the URL. The client's PDF viewer would then take care of the rest. Apparently though, that was a bit buggy on some other peoples browsers. I guess it was due to the large PDF file sizes and the effort it took for their computers to fire up Adobe. So I'm after ideas on how to go about this. How do you guys embed your PDF's into websites? Or do you just stick to adding a download link?
