• Encoding in python with lxml - complex solution

  Hi, I need to download and parse webpage with lxml and build UTF-8 xml output. I thing schema in pseudocode is more illustrative: from lxml import etree webfile = urllib2.urlopen(url) root = etree.parse(webfile.read(), parser=etree.HTMLParser(recover=True)) txt = my_process_text(etree.tostring(root.xpath('/html/body'), encoding=utf8)) output = etree.Element("out") output.text = txt outputfile.write(etree.tostring(output, encoding=utf8)) So webfile can be in any encoding (lxml should handle this). Outputfile have to be in utf-8. I'm not sure where to use encoding/coding. Is this schema ok? (I cant find good tutorial about lxml and encoding, but I can find many problems with this...)   My code currently looks like this: <div style="position: fixed; width: 35.25%; height: 6.75%; left: 0%; top: 4.625%; right: 64.75%; bottom: 88.625%; color: #D1E231; text-align: center; background-color: #666666; background-image: url('FleurTR.png'); background-position: right top;"> <div> The <div> shows up just fine, with the grey background color, but the background image won't show up at all. What am I missing here? There's no reason I should have to specify background-attachment or background-repeat, right? (I don't want it to repeat.)

  I am trying to write a "Hello World" web application using Tomcat and Eclipse, in order to familiarize myself with building Tomcat projects. So far I've gleaned from Google searches that I need to install Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP) to go ahead with it. But when I go to Help-Install New Software I can't find any software update site that is hosting WTP. My default "Available Software Sites" are Helios, Mylyn for Eclipse Helios, and the Eclipse Project Updates. Do I need to add a new software update site to install WTP? If so, what is the URL? If not, where can I find WTP? Thanks in advance.

• International Assist on iPhone

  Does anyone know if the International Assist feature on the iPhone works when dialing a number using the tel:// URL scheme from an application? For those unfamiliar, IA automatically prefixes the "+1" to US numbers when using the iPhone internationally. I know that this works when dialing from either the built-in Contacts or Phone apps, but can't find anything stating that it works when dialing numbers from an application. Also, is there any documentation as to whether this feature is included on Canadian (Rogers) or European iPhones (or is it only used by AT&T)? If IA does not work when dialing with a custom app, can someone point to the API that would allow me to detect that the use is roaming on a foreign network so I can essentially duplicate IA's functionality? Any help greatly appreciated!

  I'd like to use this method to create user-friendly URL. Because my site is in Croatian, there are characters that I wouldn't like to strip but replace them with another. Fore example, this string: ŠÐCŽ šdccž needs to be: sdccz-sdccz So, I would like to make two arrays, one that will contain characters that are to be replaced and other array with replacement characters: string[] character = { "Š", "Ð", "C", "C", "Ž", "š", "d", "c", "c", "ž" }; string[] characterReplace = { "s", "d", "c", "c", "z", "s", "d", "c", "c", "z" }; Finally, this two arrays should be use in some method that will take string, find matches and replace them. In php I used preg_replace function to deal with this. In C# this doesn't work: s = Regex.Replace(s, character, characterReplace); Would appreciate if someone could help. Thanks

I'm a little dumbfounded on how this happened, the client mentioned a couple e-mails of this, so I don't think it is a random glitch. Also, the e-mail address was formatted like an e-mail address, so someone or some program was interpreting the labels next to each text box. I also noticed that the first and last names entered are the same word, even though they were in different text boxes, I'm thinking its some spam program, but wouldn't they try to advertise something and make money, rather than just spouting out random text? Also, the comments section makes no sense to me at all, the links goto nowhere and they're all perfectly formatted, a random person just screwing around wouldn't know those tags, and a programmer doing it wouldn't bother with it, but also neither would a program. I have no idea what caused this or how to fix it, I'm drawing a blank here. Anyone have any ideas?

  I am newbie to Java. I have some design questions. Say I have a crawler application, that does the following: 1. Crawls a url and gets its content 2. Parses the contents 3. Displays the contents How do you decide between implementing a function or a class? -- Should the parser be a function of the crawler class, or should it be a class in itself, so it can be used by other applications as well? -- If it should be a class, should it be protected or public class? How do you decide between implementing a public or protected class? -- If I had to create a class to generate stats from the parsed contents for eg, should that class be protected (so only the crawler class can access it) or should it be public?   Hello, Im using Eclipse Galileo and have installed Subclipse. I looked at the svn repo url at http://www.liferay.com/web/brian.chan/blog/-/blogs/changes-to-anonymous-access-to-liferay-s-svn and then tried to get Liferay from their SVN repository in Eclipse, using svn://svn.liferay.com/repos/public --username guest,but i get the following error message: Error validating location: "org.tigris.subversion.javahl.ClientException:No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. svn: Cant connect to host 'svn.liferay.com':No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it Any way to fix this ?   History: I created a key and pem file on Amazon. I created a private bucket I created a public distribution and used origin id to connect to the private bucket: works I created a private distribution and connected it the same as #3 - now I get access denied: expected I'm having a really hard time generating a url that will work. • Ajax call from Bookmarklet

  I am trying to create a bookmarklet that, upon clicking, would request some information from the user (a url and a couple other fields in this case) and then send that data to a php page on my server and then display the result. I would like to do an Ajax call for this so that I don't actually redirect to the new page, just get the data but I assume I would run into the "Same Origin Policy" limitation of Ajax.... is there any known way of basically doing the same thing? Also, what would be the best way to pass the parameters? I already have a mechanism in place to recieve the parameters as a post message from a form...is there any way I could just reuse this?

• missing event when using modules with requirejs

  I had javascript code in a single JS file that was working fine (using XHR/AJAX). When I split it up into separate modules in a requirejs application, I do not seem to get a handle on the event object & it shows up as undefined (testing in firefox 29.0.1). When I run this, firebug gets a 200 OK, but the data received is null. I've tried a lot of different approaches, like having the data in text (wish grants me "(an empty string)" instead of just "null") or returning string in the server method... • Facebook RESTful API require_login() callback

  Hi, I'm trying to authenticate a user through the RESTful API (not Connect) but I can't since the callback system does not work for me. I have a local app that creates the Facebook API object with my key and secret, then calls the Facebook API require_login() method; I am sent to Facebook login, I login, and then I am sent to http://www.facebook.com/login.php?auth_token=<...>, where there's another login with just a field for password (not username), I write it again, and after that I am redirected to normal Facebook home. What am I doing wrong? I have set the callback URL in the Facebook app proprieties. Does it have anything to do with the fact that it's localhost? Thanks!

  I have a form that lets users upload a photo of themselves. This seems to work. The photo does exist on the server once uploaded. When I try to access the file I get a "403 forbidden - you don't have permission to access this url on this sever" and also I get "Additionally, a 410 Gone error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."
