• Quick way to do data lookup in PHP

  I have a data table with 600,000 records that is around 25 megabytes large. It is indexed by a 4 byte key. Is there a way to find a row in such dataset quickly with PHP without resorting to MySQL? The website in question is mostly static with minor PHP code and no database dependencies and therefore fast. I would like to add this data without having to use MySQL if possible. In C++ I would memory map the file and do a binary search in it. Is there a way to do something similar in PHP?

• Change the contents of a UITableView via a swipe?

  Im currently using a UITableView like any other, and I am researching into the ability to perform a swipe gesture on the screen, which will then shift the contents of the visible table over to display new content for example: swiping right-to-left on the screen would change (via animation) the contents within each of the cells on screen to show new data. What I can do is detect a swipe on the cells, or perhaps on the UITableViewController, but what I dont know how to do two fold: 1) Change data in all cells (could you have a set of hidden views within a custom table cell that animate in and out of each cell per swipe?) 2) How can you do this to all cells? • What is the 'noreq' Filter Type an Alias for?

  I'm looking in to Magento's filtering options (Ecommerce System and PHP Framekwork with an expansive ORM system). Specifically the addFieldToFilter method. In this method, you specify a SQLish filter by passing in a single element array, with the key indicating the type of filter. For example, array('eq'=>'bar') //eq means equal array('neq'=>'bar') //neq means not equal would each give you a where clause that looks like where field = 'bar'; where field != 'bar'; So, deep in the bowels of the source, I found a comparison type named 'moreq' that maps to a = comparison operator array('moreq'=>'27') where field >= 27 The weird thing is, there's already a 'gteq' comparision type array('gteq'=>'27') where field >= 27 So, my question is, what does moreq stand for? Is is some special SQL concept that's supported in other databases that the Magento guys wants to map to MySQL, or is it just "more required" and an example what happens when you're doing rapid agile and trying to maintain backwards compatibility.

  Is there a way to display User fields under a form that adds/edits a UserProfile model? I am extending default Django User model like this: class UserProfile(models.Model): user = models.OneToOneField(User, unique=True) about = models.TextField(blank=True) I know that it is possible to make a: class UserProfileInlineAdmin(admin.TabularInline): and then inline this in User ModelAdmin but I want to achieve the opposite effect, something like inverse inlining, displaying the fields of the model pointed by the OneToOne Relationship (User) in the page of the model defining the relationship (UserProfile). I don't care if it would be in the admin or in a custom view/template. I just need to know how to achieve this. I've been struggling with ModelForms and Formsets, I know the answer is somewhere there, but my little experience in Django doesn't allow me to come up with the solution yet. A little example would be really helpful!

  I am using System.Linq.Dynamic to do custom where clauses from an ajax call in .Net MVC 1.0. It works fine for strings, int etc but not for DateTime, I get the exception cannot compare String to DateTime. The very simple test code is items = items.Where(string.Format(@" {0} {1}{2}{1} ", searchField, delimiter, searchString)); Where searchField will be for example start_date and the data type is DateTime, delimiter is " (tried with nothing as well) and searchString will be 01-Jan-2009 (tried with 01/01/2009 as well) and items is an IQueryable from LinqToSql. Is there a way of specifying the data type in a dynamic where, or is there a better approach. It is currently already using some reflection to work out what type of delimiter is required.

The user then click on a different club from the UI and I call a method on a service that gets the new list of authorities for this club.   We have a multiclient system where the client is written in Flash and the server is written in Java. Currently, communication is done in Flash by usage of flash.net.Socket and the protocol is written in JSON. The server uses a custom port to receive connections and then proceed to talk with each client. As expected, data is sent and received on both fronts as raw bytes, which are then decoded as needed. We would like to encrypt the communication between clients and server. I have some basic understanding about public/private key encryption, but I do not know what is the best way to exchange keys or what libraries are available (on both languages) to do this. What would be the best strategy to attack this problem and where should I start looking for libraries/methods to implement this encryption?

  According to the C++ ISO spec, §26.2/2: The effect of instantiating the template complex for any type other than float, double or long double is unspecified. Why would the standard authors explicitly add this restriction? This makes it unspecified, for example, what happens if you make complex<int> or a complex<MyCustomFixedPointType> and seems like an artificial restriction. Is there a reason for this limitation? Is there a workaround if you want to instantiate complex with your own custom type? I'm primarily asking this question because of this earlier question, in which the OP was confused as to why abs was giving bizarre outputs for complex<int>. That said, this still doesn't quite make sense given that we also might want to make complex numbers out of fixed-points types, higher-precision real numbers, etc. Thanks!

  In the Google Maps application, when you open the menu and click on "Directions", it pops up a dialog that is unique to Google Maps. It keeps the MapView in the background, but displays the search dialog from the top (or bottom, if you're on an old version of Android). I was curious if anyone knew how they achieved this effect. I'm willing to create a custom Dialog, but it seems that Dialogs are designed to pop into the middle of the screen (any other types of dialogs are denied permission as system dialogs).   I currently have my web.xml configured to catch 404s and send them to my spring controller which will perform a search given the original URL request. The problem lies in resolving the view's path to the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Using a logger in my JBoss setup, I can see that when I test this search controller by going to a non-existent page, the following occurs: Server can't find the request Request is sent to 404 error page (in this case my search controller) Search controller performs search Search controller returns view name (for this illustration, we'll assume test.jsp is returned) Based off of server logger, I can see that org.springframework.web.servlet.view.JstlView is initialized once my search controller returns the view name (so I can assume it is being picked up correctly by the InternalResourceViewResolver) Server attempts to return content to browser resulting in a 404! A couple things confuse me about this: I'm not 100% sure why this isn't resolving when test.jsp clearly exists under the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Even if there was some other problem, why would this result in a 404? Shouldn't a 404 error page that results in another 404 theoretically create an infinite loop? Thanks for any help or pointers! I couldn’t figure out how to bind to a table at all. I have built the inline sql that would do this for me but it would destroy my shared pool (not using binds). So a General question how do I bind to complex/composite types using Nhibernate?

  I'm fairly sure this is possible, but what I want to do is have a generic method where I can pass in an object along with a Expression that will tell the method which Property to use in it's logic. Can anyone get me started on the syntax for something like this? • MapReduce results seem limited to 100?

  I'm playing around with Map Reduce in MongoDB and python and I've run into a strange limitation. I'm just trying to count the number of "book" records. It works when there are less than 100 records but when it goes over 100 records the count resets for some reason.   So here's the deal I'm working on a project that I had originally focused on Zend Framework, But now I want to get into ASP.NET MVC and boy lets just say it's good and a great start though i'm still at the beginning stage of it. But I am having issues with passing Data From My Controller to the Master / Layout Page. Now in Zend I am able to determine which controller and which action I am in through a helper I created. Now I want to implement the same functionality in this ASP.NET MVC application. So my Master Layout Page knows which Controller I am in and hence highilighting the navigation for it. I am using a straight custom html li a structure navigation. Any help on this specific topic would be greatly appreciated.

  Can I pass events like key strokes to another control in Silverlight? Imagine I'm in a custom control that contains a Textbox and a Treeview. I'm listening to a Key event for the TextBox. When the user pushes the Arrow Up or Arrow Down key, I want the Treeview to behave as if it's itself who received that event, i.e. it should move the current selection up or down. The user shouldn't lose focus on the TextBox though so that they can continue typing. Is this possible? I don't want to set the selection manually on the Treeview because it has no easy MoveSelectionUp() or MoveSelectionDown() method, so I would have to duplicate that functionality which is not so trivial especially when the tree is databound and loads nodes on demand.

• Monitoring .NET ASP.NET Applications

  I have a number of applications running on top of ASP.NET I want to monitor. The main things I care about are: Exceptions: We currently some custom code which will email us when an exception occurs. If the application is failing hard it will crash our outlook... I know (and use) elmah which partly solves the problem however it is still just a big table of exceptions with a pretty(ish) UI. I want something that makes sense of all of these exceptions (e.g. groups exceptions, alerts when new ones occur, tells me what the common ones are that I should fix, etc) Logging: We currently log to files which are then accessible via a shared folder which dev's grep & tail. Does anyone know of better ways of presenting this information. In an ideal world I want to associate it with exceptions. Performance: Request times, memory usage, cpu, etc. whatever stats I can get I'm guessing this is probably going to be solved by a number of tools, has anyone got any suggestions?

  Hi, We've a Spring JMS message listener container for receiving messages asynchronously. Using DefaultMessageListenerContainer and in sessionTransacted mode. I understand being in sessionTransacted mode means in case of an exception the message will be put back into the queue. But how can I make sure the message won't be deleted from the queue even if the receiver (which is picked the message) crashes or just the machine running it looses power? At first I thought CLIENT_ACKNOWLEDGE acknowledge mode should save me, but apparently it's not the case, Spring calls .acknowledge() no matter what. So here's my question, how can I guarantee the delivery? Using a custom MessageListenerContainer? Using a transaction manager?

  Basically, I like default theme widgets. However, I need to change font size on DecoratedStackPanel widget. I think it should be possible with something like this: decoratedStackPanel.getElement().getStyle().setProperty("fontSize", "12pt"); However, "fontSize" is not valid name for property and I didn't find way how to get all element's properties. Therefore, I don't know correct property name. Any ideas? Please, don't post about inheriting widget or writing custom CSS. I like default one but the font size. This should be possible afaik.

• asp.net mvc route clashing with physical path in IIS7

  I'm messing about with controller organisation and I've hit a problem. If I have the following physical structure /Home/HomeController.cs /Home/Index.aspx /Home/About.aspx and I request the URI: /Home/Index I get a 403 Directory Listing Denied :( (im using a custom IControllerFactory and IViewEngine to look in this non-default path) Why is this happening? (I know the 403 is because its hitting the /Home folder, but why is it hitting the folder?) Why doesn't the UrlRoutingModule rewrite the route and let the controller pick up the request? Application_BeginRequest fires, but then it seems to pass control back to IIS to try and serve from the filesystem. Is it the UrlRoutingModule that defaults to a physical path if it exists before rewriting? Is there a way to make this work? N.B.
