• Are there references discussing the use parallel programming as a development methodology? [closed]

  I work on a team which employs many of the extreme programming practices. We've gone to great lengths to utilize paired programming as much as possible. Unfortunately the practice sometimes breaks down and becomes ineffective. In looking for ways to tweak our process I came across two articles describing parallel pair programming: Parallel Pair Programming Death of paired programming. Its 2008 move on to parallel pairing While these are good resources I wanted to read a bit more on the topic. As you can imagine Googling for variations on parallel pair programming nets mostly results which relate to parallel programming. What I'm after is additional discussion on the topic of parallel pair programming. Do additional references exist that my Google-fu is unable to discern? Has anyone used the practice and care to share here (thus creating a reference)?

• My Favourite Two Buttons in Denali CTP1 SSIS

  In SSIS for SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 when you delete something from the design surface it is gone.  The only real way of getting the deleted item(s) back is to revert to a previous version of the package or to redo the deleted items manually.  Neither of these options is particularly great.  I have made this mistake before and cursed not having CTL+Z and CTL+Y.  Denali changes this.  We can now undo and redo.  Very very welcome.  Well done, finally, the SSIS team.

  I was a Java developer in the early 2000s, switched to Python in 2008 and now Iäm working in Java again. Is there anything special you think I should keep in mind when going back to a Java environment? I used to work with EJB 1.0, I didn't work with EJB 2.0 and now we have JPA instead. I'm comfortable programming in Java and my new job with Java is much better than my Python job even though Python is my favorite language the tools and others things about my Java job makes it much better. • Booting Ubuntu shows only cursor, no desktop features

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu and have been trying since 2010 on my Win XP (2006-2008 I don't know which year's version exactly). I'm trying to get rid of XP and every time I install Ubuntu it doesn't work. I've tried all the options on the install list from Wubi and from inside the installer. I've tried a lot of different stuff and all it will load is a mouse cursor and a black screen. Please do help out with suggestions/advice. Thanks in advance.

• Are there statistics or time series of open bugs in Ubuntu?

  I would like to know how the number of bugs in Ubuntu (open, closed, critical, etc) has evolved with time. It's a sort of scientific curiosity I have, but it would also give me a feeling how the community has changed over time, how it has coped with the challenges (I think of Unity in particular) and what's its status now. Has anyone collected these data over the years? If yes, are they publicly available? I know this information can be gathered from Launchpad itself and actually I found a website that had data from mid 2008 to early 2009. I found Ubuntu live stats, which shows live messages related to Ubuntu, but does not aggregate bug statistics. Finally there are some stats on the Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter but they only show diffs of bugs closed during the last week.

• Running an Application on a Different Domain

  Were I am contracting at right now has a new development domain.  Because of IT security rules it is fairly isolated from the domain my computer normally logs into (for e-mail and such).  I do use a VM to log directly into the domain but one of my co-workers found this command to run things on your box but in the other domain.  Pretty cool. For example this runs SQL Server Management Tool for SQL Server 2008: runas /netonly /user:{domain}\{username} "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\ssms.exe" And this runs visual studios: runas /netonly /user:{domain}\{username} "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" It does not solve the problem I wanted to solve which would be to be able to assign Users/Groups in Team Explorer.  It instead still uses the domain I am logged into's groups.

• Is the June 2010 DX SDK really the latest?

  I have not been involved in game development, using the DirectX SDK, since around 2008. From the looks of it, the June 2010 release, of the DirectX SDK, is still the latest release. This release is more than two years ago, based on the name. Is this still the latest release, or has there been a naming convention change and I am missing something newer? I've seen mention of it being rolled into a Windows SDK, so I am confused and figured I would come here to ask. Thanks

• FTP won't open a connection to client

  I am running Windows server 2008 on Ubuntu server 12.04.1 via devstack and I am trying to download a file from an ftp server using the windows command line ftp client. When I run the ftp get command I get the following error message: 500 I won't open a connection to 10.0.0.2 (only to XX.XX.XX.XX) 425 No data connection 10.0.0.2 is the internal IP address of the instance, whereas XX.XX.XX.XX is the external address. Is there anyway to make the ftp client use the external address for the data connection, or alternatively have the client establish the connection? Thanks

• Getting wireless to work on Ubuntu 11.10 (on a mac machine)

  I have a 2008 white 13.3 inch macbook that now solely runs ubuntu. However, I cannot get wifi or cable to work on it. Regarding the cable, it atleast tries to connect but eventually disconnects from the wired network. Here is the output for lspci (pastebin) I tried installing b43-fwcutter and firmware-b43 but get errors. (I loaded them from a thumb drive and tried sudo dpkg -i). I cannot understand these instructions from the documentation, as I cannot locate the pool directory. b43-fwcutter is located on the Ubuntu install media under ../pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter/ and patch is located under ../pool/main/p/patch/ or both in the official repositories online. Note: In some versions (10.04 and 11.04 at least) there is not a /pool/main/p/patch/ If this file is missing then you don't need it. In this case you only need to install /pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter by following the instructions below.

• Unable to boot OS X after installing Ubuntu 12.04

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my MB (aluminium late 2008). After installing Ubuntu I am unable to boot into OS X. Sequence of events: Install reFit on OS X Install Ubuntu on a partitioned drive. I also installed grub. Now when I boot my MB only the grub menu shows up. When I select OS X under grub I see a black screen for a while and the machine restarts (when selecting OS X 64 bit) or it hangs indefinitely(OS X 32 bit). Could you please help?   I'm a beginner .NET programmer (C# and IronPython). I've come across WatiN .NET library which will show handy for what I'm trying to do. The website claims that it is compatible with any .NET language, so I assume it's compatible with IronPython as well. How do I go about installing it? Their website only has some instructions, using NUget in Visual Studio. I neither use Visual Studio nor am I interested in it. How and where would I put the downloaded files in order to make it work with IronPython?

  Hi All,   Sysprep creates a snapshot of a virtual machine with BizTalk Server 2010 installed for quick deployment on other virtual machines   Prerequisites Before using Sysprep, you should have some knowledge of using virtual machines with Hyper-V. You should also have a virtual machine with a clean, typical installation of BizTalk Server and all of its prerequisites. Sysprep will run on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista with SP1. Description Sysprep creates a VHD of a BizTalk Server 2010 installation (including the operating system and all prerequisites) for quick deployment on other virtual machines. An image created using Sysprep will choose a new computer name in order to join the domain the first time it starts.
