• Symfony2 Entity to array

  I'm trying to migrate my flat php project to Symfony2, but its coming to be very hard. For instance, I have a table of Products specification that have several specifications and are distinguishables by its "cat" attribute in that Extraspecs DB table. Therefore I've created a Entity for that table and want to make an array of just the specifications with "cat" = 0... I supose the code is this one.. right? $typeavailable = $this->getDoctrine() ->getRepository('LabsCatalogBundle:ProductExtraspecsSpecs') ->findBy(array('cat' => '0')); Now how can i put this in an array to work with a form like this?: form = $this ->createFormBuilder($product) ->add('specs', 'choice', array('choices' => $typeavailableArray), 'multiple' => true) Thank you in advance :) # Thank you all..   Hi, In my simple db I use SqlCe and I cannot figure out how to correctly find out whether the query has rows or not. HasRows does not work.   I posted a question about a thread pattern today, and almost everyone suggested that I look into the ExecutorService. While I was looking into the ExecutorService, I think I am missing something. What happens if the service has a running or blocked threads, and someone calls ExecutorService.shutdown(). What happens to threads that are running or blocked? Does the ExecutorService wait for those threads to complete before it terminates? The reason I ask this is because a long time ago when I used to dabble in Java, they deprecated Thread.stop(), and I remember the right way of stopping a thread was to use sempahores and extend Thread when necessary: public void run () { while (!this.exit) { try { block(); //do something } catch (InterruptedException ie) { } } } public void stop () { this.exit = true; if (this.thread != null) { this.thread.interrupt(); this.thread = null; } } How does ExecutorService handle running threads?

• C++ adding friend to a template class in order to typecast

  I'm currently reading "Effective C++" and there is a chapter that contains code similiar to this: template <typename T> class Num { public: Num(int n) { ... } }; template <typename T> Num<T> operator*(const Num<T>& lhs, const Num<T>& rhs) { ... } Num<int> n = 5 * Num<int>(10); The book says that this won't work (and indeed it doesn't) because you can't expect the compiler to use implicit typecasting to specialize a template. As a soluting it is suggested to use the "friend" syntax to define the function inside the class. //It works template <typename T> class Num { public: Num(int n) { ... } friend Num operator*(const Num& lhs, const Num& rhs) { ... } }; Num<int> n = 5 * Num<int>(10); And the book suggests to use this friend-declaration thing whenever I need implicit conversion to a template class type. And it all seems to make sense. But why can't I get the same example working with a common function, not an operator? template <typename T> class Num { public: Num(int n) { ... } friend void doFoo(const Num& lhs) { ... } }; doFoo(5); This time the compiler complaints that he can't find any 'doFoo' at all. And if i declare the doFoo outside the class, i get the reasonable mismatched types error. Seems like the "friend ..." part is just being ignored. So is there a problem with my understanding? What is the difference between a function and an operator in this case?

• How to load secure S3 images into Flex with temporary URLs

  I have some secure images on S3 that I need to load into Flex. I was expecting to be able to do this using signed temporary URLs but can't get it working. I know the URLs I'm generating are correct, because they load fine in my browsers' address bar. Moreover, Flex has no problem loading my images with a non-signed url when they are public, but as soon as I try signing the urls all the images fail, whether public or not. I've tried image.source = signedURL, image.load(signedURL), etc. If I try loading the file with URLLoader/URLStream, it looks like I'm getting the data OK, but I'm not sure how to translate those results to an Image control. Is this just an issue with the Image control not being able to recognize signed urls? Do I have to load the image from a byte array? What would that look like?

• Components are not longer resizable after moving

I want to enlarge a component (component x) by removing it from its parent panel (component a) and adding it in one of component a's parent (component b). Before that, I call setVisible(false) on all components in b. After that I want to make this back by removing it from b and adding on a. After that all components are not longer resizable. Why that?   I'm wondering how you'd recommend designin a class, given the fact that XNA Framework uses Struct all over the place? For example, a spite class, which may require a Vector2 and a Rectangle (both defined as Struct) to be accessed outside of the class. The issue come in when you try to write code like this: class Item { public Vetor2 Position {get; set;} public Item() { Position = new Vector2(5,5); } } Item i = new Item(); i.Positon.X = 20; // fails with error 'Cannot modify the return value of Item because it is not a variable.' // you must write code like this var pos = i.Position; pos.X++; i.Position = pos; The second option compiles and works, but it is just butt ugly. • Are there any nasty side affects if i lock the HttpContext.Current.Cache.Insert method

  Apart from blocking other threads reading from the cache what other problems should I be thinking about when locking the cache insert method for a public facing website. The actual data retrieval and insert into the cache should take no more than 1 second, which we can live with. More importantly i don't want multiple thread potentially all hitting the Insert method at the same time.   Hi guys, I have this piece of code in javascript: var catId = $.getURLParam("category"); In my asp.net and c# code for "category" query string i use a public const: public const string CATEGORY = "category"; so if i want to change the query string parameter to be "categoryTest" i only change this const and all the code is updated. Now the question is: how can i do something similar for the javascript i have in the same application (so i want to use the same constant)? I mean i want something like this: var catId = $.getURLParam(CQueryStringParameters.CATEGORY); but because there are none asp.net tags, my const is not interpreted... Any workaround?

  In Scala I would write an abstract class with an abstract attribute path: abstract class Base { val path: String } class Sub extends Base { override val path = "/demo/" } Java doesn't know abstract attributes and I wonder what would be the best way to work around this limitation. Map<Object,Object> params = new HashMap<Object,Object>(); params.put("objA",ObjA) ; ...... public void doSomething(Map<Object,Object> params) { // extracting params Object objA = (Object)params.get("objA"); ...... } This is not a good practice , encapsulate params into a map is totally a waste of efficiency. The good thing is , the clean signature , easy to add other params with fewest modification . what's the best practice for this kind of problem ?
