• Create cross platform Java SWT Application

  I have written a Java GUI using SWT. I package the application using an ANT script (fragment below). <jar destfile="./build/jars/swtgui.jar" filesetmanifest="mergewithoutmain"> <manifest> <attribute name="Main-Class" value="org.swtgui.MainGui" /> <attribute name="Class-Path" value="." /> </manifest> <fileset dir="./build/classes" includes="**/*.class" /> <zipfileset excludes="META-INF/*.SF" src="lib/org.eclipse.swt.win32.win32.x86_3.5.2.v3557f.jar" /> </jar> This produces a single jar which on Windows I can just double click to run my GUI. The downside is that I have had to explicitly package the windows SWT package into my jar. I would like to be able to run my application on other platforms (primarily Linux and OS X). The simplest way to do it would be to create platform specific jars which packaged the appropriate SWT files into separate JARs. Is there a better way to do this? Is it possible to create a single JAR which would run on multiple platforms?

  I have an existing XML file that I would like to append without changing the format. Existing File looks like this: <Clients> <User username="farstucker"> <UserID>1</UserID> <DOB /> <FirstName>Steve</FirstName> <LastName>Lawrence</LastName> <Location>NYC</Location> </User> </Clients> How can I add another user using this format? • Why is only one wget command working in my crontab?

  I wish to fetch content from a PHP script on my server two times a day, altering a query variable lang to set what language we want, and save this content in two language specific files. This is my crontab: */15 * * * * ~root/apache.sh > /var/log/checkapache.log 10 0 * * * wget -O /path/to/file-sv.sql "http://mydomain.com/path/?lang=sv" 11 0 * * * wget -O /path/to/file-en.sql "http://mydomain.com/path/?lang=en" The problem is that only the first wget command line is being executed (or to be precise: the only file that is being written is /path/to/file-sv.sql). If I switch the second and the third row, /path/to/file-en.sql gets written instead. The first line always runs as expected, no matter where it is. I then tried using lynx -dump "http://mydomain.com/path/?lang=xx" > /path/to/file-xx.sql to no avail; still only the first lynx line executed successfully. Even mixing wget and lynx did not change this! Getting kinda desperate! Am I missing something? There are thousands of articles on crontab (combined with) wget or lynx, but all seems to cover basic setups and syntax. Does anyone got a clue of what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Alexander

I now have a webmail service I set up on another server, under another domain name, however I only have one incoming public IP address. So I'm trying to have any incoming requests for the second domain to be proxied to the other server to access the webmail, whether its port 80 or 443. IMAP and POP3 are no problems, I can just forward the ports directly to the correct server. The results of the above configuration is that requests to domain2.com.au (port 80 or 443) are forwarded to https://domain1.com.au. Am I headed in the right direction?

• Limit access on Apache 2.4 to ldap group

  I've upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS, and suddenly, my Apache 2.4 (previous: Apache 2.2) now lets everybody in to my virtual host, which is unfortunate :-). What am I doing wrong? Anything with the Order/Allow lines? Any help is greatly appreciated! • Specify default group and permissions for new files in a certain directory

  I have a certain directory in which there is a project shared by multiple users. These users use SSH to gain access to this directory and modify/create files. This project should only be writeable to a certain group of users: lets call it "mygroup". During an SSH session, all files/directories created by the current user should by default be owned by group "mygroup" and have group-writeable permissions. I can solve the permissions problem with umask: $ cd project $ umask 002 $ touch test.txt File "test.txt" is now group-writeable, but still belongs to my default group ("mislav", same as my username) and not to "mygroup". I can chgrp recursively to set the desired group, but I wanted to know is there a way to set some group implicitly like umask changes default permissions during a session. This specific directory is a shared git repo with a working copy and I want git checkout and git reset operations to set the correct mask and group for new files created in the working copy. The OS is Ubuntu Linux. Update: a colleague suggests I should look into getfacl/setfacl of POSIX ACL but the solution below combined with umask 002 in the current session is good enough for me and is much more simple.

If I just do a very classical log and I use the system's "logrotate" program couldn't this be a good deal? How would/do you deal with that? Thank you!

In my logs I found nothing logged in errors.log, and only that it delivered a 403 in access.log. All the appropriate users are members of www-data.

• The same C# code produces different output in Visio Professional and Premium

  I have built a simple conversion Add In, but its behavior is unfortunately different with the different Visio Editions (Visio 2010 Professional and Visio 2010 Premium). The Add In takes a Process-Diagram created with Shapes from Stencil_1.vss and creates a new slightly different Process-Diagram with Shapes from Stencil_2.vsd. It loops through a Visio page and for each shape founded creates a new shapes from new master shape (from Stencil_2.vsd) and drop it into the new page. Geometry, captions etc. are the same, only the shape-appearance is changed. Below is the source diagram: When I run the code into Visio 2010 Professional the swimlane shapes are drawn correctly. When I run the same code from Visio Premium the swimlane appearance and layout are mismatched: Both times i drop the SAME Shape("Swimlane" from the same stencil) into the Page with the SAME Code fragment: Visio.Master vm = swimlane_stencil.Masters.get_ItemU(@"Swimlane"); Visio.Shape TargetShape = targetPage.Drop(vm, shape_x, shape_y); How could I ensure, that the code produces any time the same (correct) output? Must I disable any (premium)features in the swimlane-shapesheet?

• nextSibling difference between IE and FF?

  Hi fellows, I just wrote a javascript code for layering in raphaeljs it works perfectly on FF. But it doesn't on IE. The problem is IE returns null for nextSibling for any object. How does one use it correctly, or is there a nextElementSibling call in IE? • 403 Forbiden on Apache (CentOS) Server

  These are my VM setup: HOST: windows 7 ultimate 32bit GUEST: CentOs 6.3 i386 Virtualization soft: Oracle virtualBox 4.1.22 Networking: NAT -> (PORT FORWARD: HOST:8080 => GUEST:80) Shared Folder: centos all the project files goes into shared folder and for each project file a virtualhost conf file is created in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ like /etc/httpd/conf.d/$domain I wasn't able to see anything in my browser before disabling both windows firewall and iptables in centos after that if i type for example: http://www.$domain:8080/ all i see is: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. • Exchange 2010 SP2 database size

  I have a single Exchange 2010 sp2 environment with 3 DB stores. I am trying to reduce the sizes by moving the mailboxes to a spare DB and then deleting the empty database. I cleaned up the users mailboxes to reduce the sizes and set the retention periods to 1 day each and waited several days before moving mailboxes. The databases are backing up fine and clearing logs files but when I move the mailboxes I noticed they were taking a long time, even though some were less than 100MB. When I checked the new database size it seems like the orginal mailbox size might be moving (1GB instead of 100MB). Exchange is showing the expected smaller mailbox sizes when I run get-mailbox statistics against the DB. So if I have 5 mailboxes 100MB each it is showing like 3GB instead of around 500MB, and no whitespace. I keep waiting thinking mailby the retention period is not expired yet but it is much longer than 1 day already. I am setting them both to 0 today to see if that works. What am I missing to get the combined mailbox sizes to match the DB size minus whitespace?

• Why do browsers encode special characters differently with ajax requests?

  I have a web application that reads the values of a few input fields (alphanumeric) and constructs a very simple xml that is passes to the server, using jQuery's $.ajax() method. The template for that xml is: <request> <session>[some-string]</session> <space>[some-string]</space> <plot>[some-string]</plot> ... </request> Sending such requests to the server when the inputs contain Finnish diacritical characters (such as ä or ö) raises a problem in terms of character encoding with different browsers. For instance, if I add the word Käyttötarkoitus" in one of the inputs, here's how Chrome and Firefox send EXACTLY the same request to the server: Chrome: <request> <session>{string-hidden}</session> <space>2080874</space> <plot>Käyttötarkoitus</plot> ... </request> FF 12.0: <request> <session>{string-hidden}</session> <space>2080874</space> <plot>Käyttötarkoitus</plot> ... </request> And here is the code fragment that I use to send the requests: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: url, dataType: 'xml;charset=UTF-8', data: xml, success: function(xml) { // }, error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { // } }); Why do I get different encodings and how do I get rid of this difference? • How best to handle end user notification in the event of system failure incl. email?

  I've been asked to research ways of handling end user notifications when systems such as email are experiencing problems. Perhaps an example will make this a little clearer. We have a number of sites in different countries. Recently email was impacted at one of the sites, but it could have been a complete network outage. Information was provided by phone to local IT managers at the site but onward communication was slower than some would have liked. It seems like almost everyone at the site has a personal mobile phone which could receive text messages, and perhaps access a remote website with postings on the situation. However managing and supporting a system to text people on these relatively infrequent occasions would be very costly to do internally. What are other people doing to handle situations like this? Some things I've thought of include: Database of phone numbers to text. Seems costly and not very easy to maintain for an already stretched IT group. Is there an external service that would let you do this policies? Send voicemail message to all phones on site. Maintain an external website. This would not work in all situations (network failure), and there is a limit on the amount of info that can be posted externally. A site outage could be sensitive information in some situations. How could the site be password protected? Maybe OpenId/Facebook connect would work. Use a site like Yammer.com which is publicly accessible but only by people with a company email address. Anyone using this for IT outage notifications? To me it looks like there is no clear answer, and that there are solutions for some subsets of users. To be comprehensive a number of solutions would need to be combined. Any additional thoughts or recommendations? What worked or didn't work for your organization?

It was all working fine until I asked my server admin to help me set up allow all access to one particular file. Now the entire folder is just giving me a 403 error.   Unobtrusive JS suggests that we don't have any onclick attributes in our HTML templates. <a href="/controller/foo/1">View Foo 1</a> A most basic progressive enhancement is to convert an that anchor tag to use XHR to retrieve a DOM fragment. So, I write JS to add an event listener for a."click" then make an XHR to a.href. Alas, the browser still wants to navigate to "/controller/foo". So, I write JS to dynamically inject a.onclick = "return false;". Still unobtrusive (I guess), but now I'm paying the the cost of an extra event handler. To avoid the cost of 2 event listeners, I could shove my function call into the onclick attribute <a href="/controller/foo/1" onclick="myXHRFcn(); return false;"> But that's grodo for all sorts of reasons. To make it more interesting, I might have 100 anchor tags that I want to enhance. A better pattern is a single listener on a parent node that relies on event bubbling. That's cool, but how do I short circuit the browser from navigating to the URL without this on every anchor node? onclick="return false;" Manipulating the href is not an option. It must stay intact so the context menu options to copy or open in new page work as expected.

Now i want to change my code so that my program asks user for names, price and quantity (using the Scanner class). After user enter data, program keep this in three different arrays.   Hi I got a Raspberry Pi at A.A.A.B in my local network and I have set up a DMZ on my router so that any incoming traffic that comes to my router gets redirected to my raspberry pi wich I can connect via NO-IP adress. The problem is that I want to set up portforwarding since i got several services running on my Pi like SSH, torrent webgui, webalbum, etc. I had this already done before long time ago, but I forgot a bit the syntax and cant get to set it up. Router Help says: The Application allows you to do port forwarding, but only have the ports open when data flowing out of the trigger ports. When a program sends data out on outgoing ports called trigger ports, the device then allows incoming data on the open ports specified in your port triggering configuration. 1.Trigger Port Start Trigger Port Start Specify the start port on the device that would trigger the device to open ports for incoming data. 2.Trigger Port End Specify the end port on the device that would trigger the device to open ports for incoming data. You can enter a port number the same as the trigger port start or enter a larger port number to specify a port range. 3.Trigger Traffic Protocol Type Select the trigger traffic type. Open Port Specify all the ports to be opened. It's content could be: A single port only. A port range only. Start open port number and end port number should be separated by "-" . Combined several single port and several port ranges. Each single port or port range should be separated by "," . Open Traffic Protocol Type Select the open traffic type.
