• Generate xml containing animation information from ms ppt 2003/07 file

  I am planning to write an application which has UI from MS ppt.Here is where all the animation will be configured. My application will just read xmls containing animation configuration and run it on a target device(Cannot mention details w.r.t device right now ,apologies for that) Not necessary that i want xmls it self but if there is a way to get animation details directly from the ppt file i will be more than happy. I will be going ahead with C#.Net 3.0 with windows XP as my OS.MY office will be either 2003 or 07.Can switch to any of these versions Please give suggestions as what will be the starting point for the same.Thanks in advance Please Let me know if any more details are needed

  I'm currently trying to write inside a log file the total number of failed tests from a JUnite Suite. My testsuite is defined as follows: @RunWith(Suite.class) @SuiteClasses({Class1.class, Class2.class etc.}) public class SimpleTestSuite {} I tried to define a rule which would increase the total number of errors when a test fails, but apparently my rule is never called. @Rule public MethodRule logWatchRule = new TestWatchman() { public void failed(Throwable e, FrameworkMethod method) { errors += 1; } public void succeeded(FrameworkMethod method) { } }; Any ideas on what I should to do to achieve this behaviour?

  I need a function to change the appearance of some elements in my html page "on the fly", but I am not able to do. The problem is that I cannot use a command like document.write ('body {background-color: #cccccc;}'); because I need to make the changes effective when the page is already loaded, using a link like <a onmouseclick="Clicker(1)" href="#">clic</a> and I cannot use a command like document.body.style.background='#cccccc'; because I do not know if it can be applied to other not so easy cases, because I need to change the appearance of elements such as td.myclass or sibling elements such as th[scope=col]+th[scope=col]+th[scope=col]. How can I do it? Thanks!

  Hi, I'm writing an extension method called ToPhoneFormat that formats a string of digits to phone numbers. Is it possible to add a parameter to the method that would enable me to call it like this: MyPhoneString.ToPhoneFormat(international code) That way, I could write MyPhoneString.ToPhoneFormat(1); to format a US phone number and MyPhoneString.ToPhoneFormat(33) to format a French phone number. I already wrote the method that does the formatting but I'm wondering how to build the constructor so that it works with a parameter when I'm calling it. Thanks.

  using ASP.NET 3.5 WebForm using C# 3.0, is it possible to setup a RS 232 communication with a device? I need the WebForm to be able to read and write data to the serial port. I would appreciate if there are some good examples, thanks. I understand that under Components, there is a SerialPort .NET Component, but it seems to me that it can only be used in a Windows application (WinForm).   For a project, I have to convert a binary string into (an array of) bytes and write it out to a file in binary. Say that I have a sentence converted into a code string using a huffman encoding. For example, if the sentence was: "hello" h = 00 e = 01, l = 10, o = 11 Then the string representation would be 0001101011. How would I convert that into a byte? <-- If that question doesn't make sense it's because I know little about bits/byte bitwise shifting and all that has to do with manipulating 1's and 0's.

• iPhone simple commercial barcode reader via camera

  Hey all, I've done some iPhone programming (safely midlevel) and now a requirement has come up for us to write a barcode reader that uses the iPhone camera. This is not for shopping or the general public but will be for internal use. My first thought was to simply programatically take a picture, upload it to server, and have a web service or something similar handle the heavy lifting of extracting the numbers out of the bar code. However I recently installed some apps already available on the iPhone that read bar codes, refer you to shopping sites, etc. and they seem to use the video camera to identify barcodes and extract the numbers. Does anyone know how this is being done or could point me to some open source or sample code?

  I want to have a return_empty_set class method in Ruby, similar to the attr_reader methods. My proposed implementation is class Class def return_empty_set *list list.each do |x| class_eval "def #{x}; Set.new; end" end end end and example usage: class Foo return_empty_set :one end Foo.new.one # returns #<Set: {}> but resorting to a string seems like quite a hack. Is there a cleaner or better way to write this, perhaps avoiding class_eval? Or is this the best way to go?

My background is in imperative/object-oriented programming languages, and therefore, I am used to use case analysis and the use of UML to document the design of program. And I am intrigued about what would be the best way to develop documentation and define software designs for a system that is going to be developed using functional programming. What do you show to you clients or to new developers when you are supposed to present a design of the solution? How do you document a picture of the whole thing without having first to write it all?   I have this code in my gwt client side: String out = result.getConsoleOutput().replaceAll("\n", "<br/>"); transOut.getElement().setInnerText(out); Basically what comes out of consoleoutput() is text from a telnet client and transOut is a HTMLPanel in a UiBinder. I want it to show up pretty so I tried to change all the \n to html , but when it shows up in firefox it looks like this on screen blah blahblah blah.... I am guessing gwt escapes the text somewhere how can I get it to write the real tag.

  Hi all, I´m trying to write a function what detect this relation between the variables I have got in the workspace: v1 - fft(v2) = 0 Where v1, v2 are variables of my workspace. Sometimes I need to know which variables have a certain numerical relation. If I have thirty, I don´t want to be looking for this relation in "manual way", just itroducing a sentence for each pair of different variables. I would like a function in which I introuce (or I modify this function every time I need it) the sentence (for instance what I wrote before) and the function show me the pair of variables a I am looking for. • Constructor type not found

  Hello, What I am doing: I am taking the Microsoft Enterprise Library 4.1 and attempting to expand upon it using a few derived classes. I have created a MyLogEntry, MyFormatter, and MyTraceListener which derive from their respective base classes when you remove the "My" from their names. What my problem is: Everything compiles fine. When I go to run a test using Logger.Write(logEntry) it errors right after it initializes MyTraceListener with an error message: "The current build operation (... EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.LogWriter, null]) failed: Constructor on type 'MyLogging.MyFormatter' not found. (Strategy type ConfiguredObjectStrategy, index 2) I figured it was something to do with the constructor so I tried removing it, add it, and adding a call to the base class LogFormatter. Nothing has worked. Does anyone have insight into this problem? Is it maybe a reference issue? Bad App.config configuration? Thank you in advance

  I'm distributing a C++ program with a makefile for the Unix version, and I'm wondering what compiler options I should use to get the fastest possible code (it falls into the category of programs that can use all the computing power they can get and still come back for more), given that I don't know in advance what hardware, operating system or gcc version the user will have, and I want above all else to make sure it at least works correctly on every major Unix-like operating system. Thus far, I have g++ -O3 -Wno-write-strings, are there any other options I should add? On Windows, the Microsoft compiler has options for things like fast calling convention and link time code generation that are worth using, are there any equivalents on gcc? (I'm assuming it will default to 64-bit on a 64-bit platform, please correct me if that's not the case.)

  I'm struggling to grasp why MVVM is really a good pattern to implement in riaserivces, To me there's nothing but trouble to it, it just add's another tier that I have to code. I Get that I could change the UI, but really I don't need to. Instead i won't be able to user out of the box functionality with riaservices, datagrid, dataform all controls require some implementation. Why can't it just be simple? Is there really no way to get MVVM to automatically set "IsBusy" and all the dataform edit functionality. It's like reinventing the wheel to me, and it seems that I'd be able to write code much faster just using riaservices

• C++ Urban Myths

  I'm starting to write an article on what I'm calling "C++ Urban Myths" - that is, ideas and conceptions about C++ that are common but have no actual roots in reality. Some that I've come up with so far are: TR1 is part of standard C++ TR1 (technical Report #1) proposed a whole bunch of changes to C++. Unfortunately, it was never accepted. It is faster to use iterators to access a vector than operator[] Or vice versa. All tests I've carried out indicate the two are nearly identical in performance. The C++ Standard contains something called the STL It doesn't - neither "STL" nor "Standard Template Library" appear in the Standard. I'm wondering if the SO C++ community can come up with any better ones? Ideally, they should be expressible in a single sentence, and not involve any code. Edit: I guess I didn't make it clear enough that I was interested in myths believed by C++ developers, not misconceptions held by non-C++users. Oh well...
