• Form Elements in ASP.NET Master Pages and Content Pages

  OK, another road bump in my current project. I have never had form elements in both my master and content pages, I tend to have all the forms in the content where relevant. In the current project however, we have a page where they want both. A login form at the top right, and a questions form in the content. Having tried to get this in, I have run in to the issue of ASP.NET moaning about the need for a single form element in a master page. TBH, I really dont get why this is a requirement on ASP.NET's part, but hey ho. Does anyone know if/how I can get the master and content pages to contain form elements that work independantly? If not, can you offer advice on how to proceed to get the desired look/functionality?

• Remote desktop is slow when connecting to a computer which is part of a domain

  Hey all, We have two windows 2003 machines, one is a DC and another is joined to the domain of the DC. These machines are not locally available to us so we have to remote desktop into them. When we first got the machines remote desktop was blazing as the machines are only a couple of miles away. I then installed AD and setup routing and remote access, I also setup DNS on the DC. Now when I try remote Desktop into the machine which is part of the domain (not the DC) it is painfully slow! Remote Desktop onto the DC is also noticeably slower! Another problem is that our FTP to the DC has also become slow. I don't know what other information I can provide, as I am new to Sys Admin (moving over from development). The speed should be fast as these machines are only a couple of miles away. Any help / suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thanks Peuge

• JMeter to grab full querystring into a variable for future use

  Someone provided me the regex to parse out a query string: (?<=\?)[^?]+$ I am trying to use that in JMeter with no luck (although I am successful in pulling out individual query string parameter values based on various example postings on the web). I created a regular expression extractor called "Grab QueryString". I selected the URL response field to check. For the reference name, I typed "myQueryString". For the regular expression, I entered your text. For template, I entered $1$ Match no = 1 Default Value = ERROR Unfortunately, "myQueryString" is getting populated with ERROR and not the URL query string as hoped when I try and use it as a parameter in a future GET. Thus, I see this in the "View Results Tree": https:/www.website.com/folder/page.aspx?ERROR Instead of: https:/www.website.com/folder/page.aspx?jfhjHSDjgdjhsjhsdhjSJHWed Did I do something wrong? Anyone have any suggestions?

  I have two different version of AjaxControlToolkit dll and I have added reference of both dll in my web application. I also set up control tagprefix in web.config. Now one of the page is using 1.0 version and I want to use 3.0 version in another page. I am getting following error. "The server tag 'ajaxToolkit:SliderExtender' is ambiguous. Please modify the associated registration that is causing ambiguity and pick a new tag prefix." Any idea where I am doing wrong?

• Paging through records (json data) using jQuery...

  I have a JSON result that contains numerous records. I'd like to show the first five records in one page and create pager links which have to move to that page with five record so on. I don't want the page to refresh which is why I'm hoping for a combination of JavaScript and jQuery. • How to set post parameters in WebClient class in a Silverlight app.

  First of all, I wrote a simple php page, that picks up some variables from the POST parameters such as a query and a authentication string, and returns the result as xml. I intend to call this page with the WebClient class from a Silverlight application. I'm using POST because we are querying the database with any valid sql statement, not only select statements. The WebClient class uses the UploadDataAsync method to post to a http server, however it requires the post parameters be passed as a NameValueCollection. This class is missing in the Silverlight runtime. How do I proceed???

  I want to upload some files of size 35MB on to the blob container. I have coded for splitting the data into blocks and upload it on to the blob container and form a blob using PUT. I tested the code for some files of Size 2MB or something... It worked well. But When I tried it for a large MB file, its giving me this error Server Error 404 - File or directory not found. The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. when I tried it for files of size 6MB, it gives me this error.. Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. • Downloading file from server (asp.net) to IE8 Content-Disposition problem with file name

  I am downloading a file from the server/database via aspx page. When using the content-disposition inline the document opens in correct application but the file name is the same as the web page. I want the document to open in say MS Word but with the correct file name.   I am trying to run a local DNS server on my home computer so that I can both increase DNS lookups speed and reduce bandwidth use, so that both my laptop and my PC can do lookups faster. I have got BIND 9 running very smoothly, there is only one simple problem, and that being the fact that BIND is not a persistent DNS cache, and if I restart its service, the whole cash would be wiped out. So, is there a way that I could make BIND9 keep its cache after system restart? Also, which one is better Unbound or BIND? Which one would you suggest? Does Unbound DNS have a persistent cache or can it be enabled?

• Can iTextSharp rasterize/export to JPEG or other image format?

  I need to be able to export PDF's that I am creating to JPEG, so that users can have a screenshot/thumbnail of the end product, which is faster than opening the whole PDF. I am running this on an ASP.NET website running in Medium Trust in the Rackspace Mosso Cloud. I have yet to find a library that will either work in Medium trust, or in the case of ABC PDF, which works great locally, wont load in Mosso. Maybe Mosso has a custom trust level? I know that iTextSharp works on Mosso, but I haven't been able to figure how to "screenshot" a single page of a PDF, or export a page to JPEG. Is there anyone out there who has done this before?

• Javascript Back Button - Stop back from closing window

  How do I get the "back" button seen in my demo to NOT close the browser window? If this can't be prevented, then at least provide them with a confirmation box alerting them the window is trying to close and ask them if they want to continue. I'm using a javascript back button link and forward button link to control the user's history inside a modal/lightbox window. Here's a demo of what is happening... When you begin, the second page will have a link to the modal window, so click that, then click the "back" button in the window as it will take you BACK to the start page. • OpenVPN slow with Firewall enabled on Zyxel ZyWall USG-100

  I have an OpenVPN server on a Linux machine, after installing a ZyWall USG-100 I'm experiencing extremely slowness navigating web servers on my remote LAN through the VPN connection, while accessing the web interface of the ZyWall is fast. I have configured everything : the Virtual Server for the OpenVPN Server, the static route as with the replaced router that I had before installing the ZyWall Today. I even added a rule to the firewall that allows connection to the OpenVPN Server machine : but navigation on the LAN through the VPN still slow, it seems that the Firewall is blocking packages, since if I disable the firewall on the USG-100 everything works fast as usual, while with the firewall enabled it is extremely slow. Why ? Do I need to add some other rule to the firewall to speed up ?

• Re-Calibrate Toshiba battery meter with Windows 7

  I have a Toshiba U300 laptop. Back in the olden days (circa-2000) you could re-calibrate the battery meter from the BIOS when your battery was no longer reading accurately. My battery was shot, so I bought a brand new one, however Windows 7 still seems to count down the battery life in at the same speed as the old one did. This time, when it alleged 0%, I turned the laptop back on and got another 90 minutes of life out of it, at 0%. Is there a tool or utility for Toshiba laptops that can fix it back to being accurate? I've read the other threads on SU about cycling the battery but that just doesn't seem to do it in this case. Update: After the last cycle, the battery meter now reads 100% but the indicator on the front of the laptop is still orange (indicating not fully charged)

  I'm trying to create an html table for order logs for customers. But the problem is evaluating ViewData.Model.Orders.Count() literally takes about 10 minutes. I've tried with the ViewData.Model.Orders.Count property instead, and the results are the same - takes forever. I've also tried calling _repository.GetOrders().ByCustomerID(custID).Count() directly from the view and that executes perfectly within a few ms. Can anybody see any reason why using the LazyList to get a simple count would take so long? It seems like its trying to iterate through the list when getting a simple count.

• Ajaxing a link in a table

  I have a table of results in an ASP.Net MVC page where the last column is an View Details link. I want to have the user click the View Details link and an AJAX method be called to open the results in floating dialog. What I am struggling with is how to link the AJAX call to the link in the results table. I was using a link which embedded the ~/ControllerName/ViewDetails/InstanceId link directly in it. Clicking it took the user to a new page and it is this behaviour I want to replace with an AJAX call and a dialog window. Now I want to attach a jQuery handler to the link to trigger the AJAX call and I can't see how to do this other than write an jQuery handler for each row in the results table. There must be a way to mark the link as an ViewDetails link (using a class?) and attach the jQuery click handler to all instances of type class ViewDetails.

• jQuery Thickbox and Google Maps Extinfowindow

  I am trying to place a link into an Extinfowindow that obtains its content through an Ajax call. So, I click on a push pin marker, up pops the Extinfowindow with my ThickBox link in it, and when I inspect the DOM for the entire page at that point, I can see the element correctly showing up with the "thickbox" class. The link looks like this <A class="thickbox" title="" href="http://localhost:1293/Popup.aspx? height=200&width=300&modal=true">Modal Popup</A> However, when I click on it, it does a full refresh and the target page loads in the browser, not in a popup. It seems that when the <A> for the Thickbox control is injected into the DOM after the initial load, jQuery is no longer able to do its magic and intercept the anchor link request. Does anybody have thoughts about how to do this better?

  I'm planning on deploying my ASP.NET Web app in the production environment using a Windows Server 2003 machine. But I know nothing about the CPU brand names and what's best. I know 4 GB RAM, with anything over 3 GHz clock speed will be a good bet and will serve a large number of users. But tell me what's the latest and greatest processor brand-names for running a Windows Server 2003 OS today? And what edition of the Windows 2003 Server do I need out of the following, if I have to run a website to support about 100,000 (a hundred thousand) users, 60% of who are expected to be online at all times? Web Edition Standard Enterprise Datacenter source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Server_2003 The article says that the Web edition can only support up to 2 GB of RAM. Will that be sufficient for the above user population?

• Failed to load viewstate

  OK have just started getting this error and I'm not sure why. I have a hosting page which has listview and a panel with a usercontrol. The listview loads up records with a linkbutton. You click the link button to edit that particular record - which gets loaded up in the formview (within the usercontrol) which goes to edit mode. After an update occurs in the formview I'm triggering an event which my hosting page is listening for. The hosting page then rebinds the listview to show the updated data.   Hello, how can I use the same UI template (*.ui.xml file) with multiple Java objects extending from Composite? I need to build several pages that should display basically the same information with the same layout, but on one page some fields will be editable, and on a different page other fields will be editable. I would like to specify layout only once in ui.xml, and create different behaviors in different *.java classes. • Error when using mailto: link in Mobile Safari in app-capable mode

  I've got a form in a web page with an action that is "mailto:email" (where email is a real email address). When I load this page in Mobile Safari in regular mode (ie, not launched from home screen with app-capable mode), this works fine - after I submit the form, the email app comes up. However, when I'm in app-capable mode and have launched from the home screen (so, no Safari chrome), and submit the form I get the error "URL can't be shown". However, a regular mailto: link (ie, not in a form) does work when in app-capable mode. Has anyone else noticed this? Any workarounds? Are forms disallowed in app-capable mode? Thanks, Elisabeth

• Access JavaScript variables with Selenium IDE

  I'm wondering if it's possible to access page JavaScript variables with Selenium. I have an application that's using a variable attached to the window object. It has a global scope and I can access it either with window._myvar, window['_myvar'], _myvar, this['_myvar'], this._myvar depending on the context. So I tried to get Selenium to echo it. As far as I understand, in Selenium IDE the context in which everything runs is selenium. I get bumped with the following error Unexpected Exception: message -> eval(match[1]) is undefined. Anyone managed to access their page's JavaScript?

So, I use: ActionLink("Back to Index", "index") However, because there's an ambient order ID, this results in the URL: /Customer/123/Order/456/Item/789/Index ...whereas I want it to "forget" the order ID and just use: /Customer/123/Order/456/Item/Index I've tried overriding the order ID like so: ActionLink("Back to Index", "index", new { orderId=string.empty }) ...but that doesn't work. How can I persuade ActionLink to "forget" the order ID?

• Sharepoint - connectable receiving, XSLT editable web part?

  You can use the "Data View" webpart to take data from a database call, then you can edit the XSLT manually to make it look and do whatever you want, within the scope of that data and XSLT capabilities. Is there a web part that allows me to do the same thing, but with data that is received by a connected webpart source rather than a database set? For example: I'd like to be able to pull in a Data View webpart that queries a bunch of data and makes it available all over the page. Then, I would like to hide that Data View. Once it is hidden, I'd like to be able to take another customizable webpart and pull a field (or multiple fields if possible) from the Data View webpart via a webpart connection. This would allow me to display various fields in creative formats without having to call the same query multiple times on the same page by different webparts. Is there an in house webpart that will allow me to do this?
