  I need to define a data structure recursively in Javascript. Here is a simple example of a circular linked list: // List a very simplified example of what the actual (non list) code does. function List(f, r) { return function(){ return [f, r]; }; } var head = List('a', List('b', List('c', head))); When this is executed, head in List 'c' is resolved to undefined, not List 'a' as I need. List is an example function that returns a function (It is not an Javascript list that I can append to). I tried to wrap the definition of head is a self executing named function, but that blew the stack when head was resolved. What is the Javascript style solution that I am overlooking?

  I read the Wikipedia articles on FactoryMethod and AbstractFactory but the following code doesn't seem to fit anywhere.   I have a MySQL table containing data on product features: feature_id feature_product_id feature_finder_id feature_text feature_status_yn 1 1 1 Webcam y 2 1 1 Speakers y 3 1 1 Bluray n I want to write a MySQL query that allows me to search for all products that have a 'y' feature_status_yn value for a given feature_product_id and return the feature_product_id. The aim is to use this as a search tool to allow me to filter results to product IDs only matching the requested feature set. A query of SELECT feature_id FROM product_features WHERE feature_finder_id = '1' AND feature_status_yn = 'y' will return all of the features of a given product. But how can I select all products (feature_product_id) that have a 'y' value when they are on separate lines? Multiple queries might be one way to do it, but I'm wondering whether there's a more elegant solution based purely in SQL.

• "set -e" in shell and command substitution

  In shell scripts set -e is often used to make them more robust by stopping the script when some of the commands executed from the script exits with non-zero exit code. It's usually easy to specify that you don't care about some of the commands succeeding by adding || true at the end. The problem appears when you actually care about the return value, but don't want the script to stop on non-zero return code, for example: output=$(possibly-failing-command) if [ 0 == $? -a -n "$output" ]; then ... else ... fi Here we want to both check the exit code (thus we can't use || true inside of command substitution expression) and get the output. However, if the command in command substitution fails, the whole script stops due to set -e. Is there a clean way to prevent the script from stopping here without unsetting -e and setting it back afterwards?

  Currently I have this: function parse_string($string, $variables){ extract($variables); return eval('return "'. addcslashes($string, '"') .'";'); } So I can input this string: 'Hi {$name}, my name is {$own_name}' Together with this array: array('name' => 'John', 'own_name' => 'Tom') And get this back: 'Hi John, my name is Tom'   I've never liked this eval() approach but it works and it's fast (faster than regex at least). Question: Is there a more elegant way to do this (faster than using regex) in PHP5?

• Get controller method caller (3rd party webservice)

  Is it possible to retrieve the URL of a 3rd party webservice calling my controller method? Things like Request.Current.Url refer to my own URL (/someController/someAction/). The 3rd party webservice is sending HTTP POST data to my /someController/someAction and I wish to send back a HTTP POST message to the caller of the method, the 3rd party webservice, without using return Content["some response"] which will force me to exit the method. Since the answer is plain text I would like to send it using HTTP Post. What I actually try to do is respond to the calling webservice without exiting my method (return Content() will exit) so I can call other methods to process the data send to me by the webservice. I want to first tell the webservice I received their stuff and than process, in this way when a processing error occurs the webservice at least will not resend old data. Is there another way to do this than building your own HTTP post?

• JQuery Datepicker Date highlight Issue

  I have an in-line date picker in which I want to highlight some dates based on array of strings from the server side. I found out the on load of the page with the datepicker, events the matches in the current month will not be highlighted. when I click the next month button the events on the next moth will be highlighted. What I discovered that i the matching only get highlighted when I click to the next month and not when I click back to the previous month. • WPF - Dynamically access a specific item of a collection in XAML

  Hi, I have a data source ('SampleAppearanceDefinitions'), which holds a single collection ('Definitions'). Each item in the collection has several properties, including Color, which is what I'm interested in here. I want, in XAML, to display the Color of a particular item in the collection as text. I can do this just fine using this code below... Text="{Binding Source={StaticResource SampleAppearanceDefinitions}, Path=Definitions[0].Color}" The only problem is, this requires me to hard-code the index of the item in the Definitions collection (I've used 0 in the example above). What I want to do in fact is to get that value from a property in my current DataContext ('AppearanceID'). One might imagine the correct code to look like this.... Text="{Binding Source={StaticResource SampleAppearanceDefinitions}, Path=Definitions[{Binding AppearanceID}].Color}" ...but of course, this is wrong. Can anyone tell me what the correct way to do this is? Is it possible in XAML only? It feels like it ought to be, but I can't work out or find how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!   I have a Jersey resource that access the database. Basically it opens a database connection in the initialization of the resource. Performs queries on the resource's methods. I have observed that when I do not use @Singleton, the database is being open at each request. And we know opening a connection is really expensive right? So my question is, should I specify that the resource be singleton or is it really better to keep it at per request especially when the resource is connecting to the database?   When run through javac on the cmd line Sun JVM 1.6.0_20, this code produces 6 .class files OuterClass.class OuterClass$1.class OuterClass$InnerClass.class OuterClass$InnerClass2.class OuterClass$InnerClass$InnerInnerClass.class OuterClass$PrivateInnerClass.class When run through JDT in eclipse, it produces only 5 classes. OuterClass.class OuterClass$1.class OuterClass$InnerClass.class OuterClass$InnerClass2.class OuterClass$InnerClass$InnerInnerClass.class OuterClass$PrivateInnerClass.class When decompiled, OuterClass$1.class contains nothing. • Auto pointer for unsigned char array?

  I'd need a class like std::auto_ptr for an array of unsigned char*, allocated with new[]. But auto_ptr only calls delete and not delete[], so i can't use it. I also need to have a function which creates and returns the array. • SDK Platform Tools component missing - Similar to Android Eve below

  Ubuntu Linux 10.04//Eclipse 3.5.2 I'm new to Eclipse and Android. Eclipse is up and running simple Jave apps OK. I moved on to downloading the Android SDK starter package, which seemed to go OK. Ran the SDK manager and downladed Platforms 7,8 & 9. Installed the ADT package in Eclipse. I've tried to load the SDK path into the Eclipse Preferences, but it won't retain the path. After restart, Elipse says it can't find SDK package. Also,one message said that the (revision?) number of the ADT couldn't be found. I've reinstalled Eclipse a couple of times, and then gone through the SDK & ADT download procedures a couple of times and am stuck. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Hertfordkc Stupid question caused by not thoroughly reading the Android Developers Guide and the tutorials before trying to start a project. Don't know why I didn't get a message about a missing XML file.

  Hi everybody. I'm trying to make a tabbed menu for the asp.net website I'm working on. One of the pre-requisite is obviously to color the current tab differently, so the user can know on which tab is currently is. To do this, I made this method in my code-behind: Protected Function GetCssClass(ByVal ctrl As LinkButton) As String If ctrl.ID = currentLink Then Return "current" Else Return String.Empty End If End Function and I call the method like this in my aspx page: <asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" PostBackUrl="/Default.aspx" CssClass="<%#GetCssClass(LinkButton1) %>" >Home</asp:LinkButton> <asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton2" runat="server" PostBackUrl="/Directory/page1.aspx" CssClass="<%#GetCssClass(LinkButton2) %>" >Page1</asp:LinkButton> But the method is never hit... As I understand, the method should be called each time the LinkButton is drawn... Does someone have an idea why? Thanks in advance !

  I need to implement an "autosuggest" feature on our site but it needs to re-query the on every keystroke after a certain number of keys (like every character after 2 it would need to query again). So the result isn't a limiting search. For example, the autocomplete plugins I've seen work like the following: [looking for a county] 1. customer types 'CA' and the first result would return 'Canada', 'Cambodia', and 'Camaroon' 2. customer continues to type and hits 'M' the new results would query within the only the existing 3 results (producing results of just 'Cambodia' and 'Camaroon') I need a solution that would be the equivalent of querying my datasource on each keystroke. I already have the ajax call that will return my results based on the "typed" params. For example (in the above example), it would need to make an ajax call passing 'ca' first and if the customer kept typing passing 'can' on the 3 character and so forth. Thanks.

Is an ArrayList as an instance variable automatically declared static?
