[…] A Reference is a resolved name binding. Function calls are permitted to return references. This possibility is admitted purely for the sake of host objects. No built-in ECMAScript function defined by this specification returns a reference and there is no provision for a user-defined function to return a reference. Those last two sentences impressed me. With this, you could do things like coolHostFn() = value (valid syntax, btw). So my question is: Are there any EcmaScript implementations that define host function objects which result in Reference values?

  • WPF: How do I bind a Control to a formula composed of several dependency properties?

    Hi all, I'm working on Expression Blend and I'm currently designing a custom control which has a Grid with 5 rows inside, and also has two Dependency properties: "Value", and "Maximum". Three of the rows have fixed height, and what I'm trying to do is set the remaining rows height to "Value/Maximum" and "1-Value/Maximum" respectively. How do I go and do that? When I set the height to "Value" it seems to react, but when I go and set it to "Value/Maximum" it stops working. I'm still a bit new around WPF, so there must be another way to achieve what I'm intending, but after searching I couln't find my problem elsewhere.   • In Python, are there builtin functions for elementwise boolean operators over boolean lists?

    For example, if you have n lists of bools of the same length, then elementwise boolean AND should return another list of that length that has True in those positions where all the input lists have True, and False everywhere else. It's pretty easy to write, i just would prefer to use a builtin if one exists (for the sake of standardization/readability).   • Why is FF on OS X loosing jQuery-UI in click event handler?

    In a web page using jQUery 1.7.1 and jQUery-UI 1.8.18, if I output $.ui in an alert box when the document is ready, I get [object Object]. However when using Firefox, if I output $.ui in a click event handler, I get 'undefined' as result. With other browsers (latest versions of IE, Chrome and Safari), the result is still [object Object] when clicking on the link.     Hi I am looking to return a PDF from a webservice call. (ATM, a custom proxy is required at the client-side) AFAICS, there are 2 ways of doing it a) Return the link to a web-accessible location b) Encode the PDF and include it in the XML In my circumstance, a) will require 2 trips from the client, the first to get the path and the second to get the file. However, wrt b), this link (http://www.coderanch.com/t/279020/Streams/java/wrting-bytearray-xml-file#1283263) suggests that it isn't a good idea to encode a PDF, though without explanation. I'd be grateful if someone would offer recommendations of the above (and potentially, other alternatives). Many thx Simon

    Is there a way to return the users location as a string from a model? I have a model thats job is to download same JSON data from a web service. When sending in my request I need to add ?lat=LAT_HERE&lng=LNG_HERE to the end of the string. I have seen tons of examples using the map or constantly updating a label. But I cant find out how to explicitly return the lat and lng values. Im only 2 days into iPhone dev so go easy on me :)

    I want to be able to check if I can edit a cell in a database with a new object Example method declaration: something.isValid(Object newObject, row, column); Example cases: If the editing cell stores an Number and I give it a String, the method will return false... If the editing cell has to be different than every other entry and the new object is the same as something else, the method will also return false.... My main goal... I want to check a whole row, and if everything is valid, I will edit the whole row. Right now, the only way I can find out if I can actually edit something is by actually editing it and seeing if I get an error.

  • JavaScript doesn't parse when mod-rewrited through a PHP file?

    If I do the following (this is the actual/direct path to the JavaScript file): <script href="http://localhost/tpl/blue/js/functions.js" type="text/javascript"></script> It works fine, and the JavaScript parses - as its meant too. However I'm wanting to shorten the path to the JavaScript file (aswell as do some caching) which is why I'm rewriting all JavaScript files via .htaccess to cache.php (which handles the caching). The .htaccess contains the following: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^js/(.+?\.js)$ cache.php?file=$1 [NC] </IfModule> cache.php contains the following PHP code: <?php if (extension_loaded('zlib')) { ob_start('ob_gzhandler'); } $file = basename($_GET['file']); if (file_exists("tpl/blue/js/".$file)) { header("Content-Type: application/javascript"); header('Cache-Control: must-revalidate'); header('Expires: ' . gmdate('D, d M Y H:i:s', time() + 3600) . If I access the rewrited file- http://localhost/js/functions.js directly it prints the JavaScript code, as any JavaScript file would - so I'm confused as to what I'm doing wrong... All help is appreciated! :)

If a row in EmployeeInfo has no related row in LeaveApplications, i want to return its SUM(dbo.LeaveApplications.DaysAuthorised) AS DaysTaken column as NULL or may be even put a 0. With the above query, if i remove the where condition, am able to achieve what i want, but problem is i also want to return related rows from LeaveApplication only if ApplicationDate is in the current year. Now with the where condition added, am only able to get rows from EmployeeInfo only if they have corresponding rows in LeaveApplications yet i just wanted rows all in EmployeeInfo

    I want to apply the same decorator to every method in a given class, other than those that start and end with __. It seems to me it should be doable using a class decorator. Are there any pitfalls to be aware of?   • Determining if a coordinate is on a line

    I´m coding a little app that allows the user to draw multiple shapes and then remove or resize them. It´s working perfectly on rectangles and ovals, but I´m having issues with lines. Here´s a method that I wrote to find if the clicked spot on the screen is part of a specific line: public boolean containsLocation(int x, int y) { int m = (getY2() - getY()) / (getX2() - getX()); int b = getY() - (m * getX()); if (y == (m * x) + b) { return true; } return false; I´m using the famous y = mx + b formula and replacing y and x to find if the clicked spot is part of the line. The problem is when I click on the screen to remove the line, it only works if I click on the very fist coordinate (x,y) where the line starts. Nothing happens when I click anywhere else along the line. Can anyone shed a light on what I´m doing wrong? Thanks a lot.

  • wxPython: MainLoop() seems to hang

    Hi all, my problem stems from the use of wxApp as far as I can tell. Inside a litte subroutine I call a wx.MessageDialog to ask for a yes or no. I retrieve the answer an process some stuff acordingly. My example code below actually works (though it might be ugly) except that the Dialog box stays open after hitting one of the buttons... import wx from os import path def HasFile(filename): if path.isfile(filename ): app = wx.App() dial = wx.MessageDialog(None, 'Die Datei "'+filename+'" wurde gefunden.\nSoll sie eingelesen werden?', 'Bitte antworten', wx.YES_NO | wx.YES_DEFAULT | wx.ICON_QUESTION) result = dial.ShowModal() dial.EndModal(retCode=0) dial.Destroy() app.MainLoop() return result == wx.ID_YES else: return False So while the rest of the program does whatever is expected, the box just sits there. It also seems like my calls to matplotlib later on are producing errors (a Tkinter error to be precise), maybe because of the wx stuff? Edit: I tried to end the app with a call to app.Destroy(). This doesn't change the fact that the box is still there. When I issue a app.IsActive() afterwards the whole program exits (almost like a sys.exit())! How come? Edit 2: Adding a wxApp like this isn't a good idea since the other scripts get affected as well. Subsequent plotting commands don't get displayed and I don't know how to fix this. Thus I decided to remove the DialogBox alltogether.

    I'm trying to build a database of urls(links). I have a Category model that has and belongs to many Links. I then set the inheritance modifier for "id" property in the dbml file o/r designer to "overrides" Public MustInherit Class EntityBase MustOverride Property id() As Integer End Class Public MustInherit Class RepositoryBase(Of T As EntityBase) Protected _Db As New DataClasses1DataContext Public Function GetById(ByVal Id As Integer) As T Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault End Function End Class Partial Public Class Entity1 Inherits EntityBase End Class Public Class TestRepository Inherits RepositoryBase(Of Entity1) End Class the line Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault however produces the error "Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped" when i use VS 2010 using the 4.0 framework but I never received that error with the old one.
