• Convert local time (10 digit number) to a readable datetime format

  Hey all, I'm working with pbx for voip calls. One aspect of pbx is that you can choose to receive CDR packages. Those packages have 2 timestamps : "utc" and "local", but both seem to always be the same. Here's an example of a timestamp : "1268927156". At first sight, there seems to be no logic in it. So i tried converting it several ways, but with no good result. That value should provide a time around 11am (+1GMT) today. Things i tried: Datetime dt = new Datetime(number); Timespan ts = new Timespan(number); DateTime utc = new DateTime(number + 504911232000000000, DateTimeKind.Utc) and some others i can't remember right now. Am i missing something stupid here? Thanks in advance

• Can I flip the coordinate system without flipping text in iTextSharp?

  I have some chart-creating code written for a coordinate system in which a y-coordinate of 0 is the top of the page. We are now converting to iTextSharp, which uses the conventional system from mathematics where a y-coordinate of 0 is the bottom of the page. There are many calculations involved in producing the chart and I'd like to not mess with those calculations. I can partially "fix" the problem by transforming iTextSharp's coordinate system like this: pdfContentByte.ConcatCTM(1f, 0f, 0f, -1f, 0f, pdfDoc.PageSize.Height); This works great for lines, rectangles, and circles, but the text is now upside down! Is there a way to remedy this, using SetTextMatrix or otherwise?

• How can I Convert XML to an Object using Spring 3.0 mvc while making RESTful request

  Hi, I'm using the Spring 3.0 RC1 framework and I'm currently testing out Spring mvc. I wanted to use Spring mvc to handle restful requests. I have set up my controller to handle the URI request. I am passing in xml with the request. So on the controller I have a method like follows: public void request(RequestObject request) { doSomething(); } I am having a hard time converting the xml to the RequestObject. I haven't seen much documentation on this and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I'm guess that you would have to annotate the RequestObject using JAXB or something in order to tell Spring to convert the xml file to RequestObject but I'm not sure. Thanks for all of your help!!

• XSLT: Is there a way to "inherit" canned functionality?

  i am once again having to cobble together a bit of XSLT into order to turn generated XML into (rather than simply generating HTML). i'm having huge deja-vu this time again. i'm once again having to solve again basic problems, e.g.: how to convert characters into valid html entity references how to preserve whitespace/carriage returns when converting to html how to convert to HTML as opposed to xhtml how to convert dates from xml format into presentable format how to tear apart strings with substring This is all stuff that i've solved many times before. But every time i come back to XSLT i have to start from scratch, re-inventing the wheel every time. If it were a programming language i would have a library of canned functions and procedures i can call. i would have subroutines to perform the commonly repeated tasks. i would inherit from a base class that already implements the ugly boilerplate stuff. Is there any way in XSLT to grow, expand and improve the ecosystem with canned code?

• MVC DateTime binding with incorrect date format

  Asp.net-MVC now allows for implicit binding of DateTime objects. I have an action along the lines of public ActionResult DoSomething(DateTime startDate) { ... } This successfully converts a string from an ajax call into a DateTime. However, we use the date format dd/MM/yyyy; MVC is converting to MM/dd/yyyy. For example, submitting a call to the action with a string '09/02/2009' results in a DateTime of '02/09/2009 00:00:00', or September 2nd in our local settings. I don't want to roll my own model binder for the sake of a date format. But it seems needless to have to change the action to accept a string and then use DateTime.Parse if MVC is capable of doing this for me. Is there any way to alter the date format used in the default model binder for DateTime? Shouldn't the default model binder use your localisation settings anyway?

  I am looking for some SQL varchar comparison function like C# string.compare (we can ignore case for now, should return zero when the character expression are same and a non zero expression when they are different) Basically I have some alphanumeric column in one table which needs to be verified in another table. I cannot do select A.col1 - B.col1 from (query) as "-" operator cannot be applied on character expressions I cannot cast my expression as int (and then do a difference/subtraction) as it fails select cast ('ASXT000R' as int) Conversion failed when converting varchar 'ASXT000R' to int Soundex would not do it as soundex is same for 2 similar strings Difference would not do it as select difference('abc','ABC') = 4 (as per msdn, difference is the difference in the soundex of 2 character expressions and difference =4 implies least different) Is there any other way of doing it ?

  Hi, I'm very new to Git and I've been following this online tutorial for converting my existing SVN repository to a Git repository and am stuck at the final hurdle. http://www.jonmaddox.com/2008/03/05/cleanly-migrate-your-subversion-repository-to-a-git-repository/ On the last step of the tutorial it says to do this: git clone my_blog_tmp my_blog However, when I do, I get the following error: fatal: 'my_blog_tmp' does not appear to be a git repository fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly Some points: 1) I'm entering the above command from within the "my_blog_tmp" directory 2) I've tried entering "git init" to make sure Git is initialised inside the "my_blog_tmp" folder but no joy. They will be safe before parsing so I just need to make sure that no vulnerabilities are introduced through parsing the URLs.

• Pros and cons of ways of storing an unsigned int without an unsigned int data type

  I have values that are 64-bit unsigned ints, and I need to store them in mongodb, which has no unsigned int type. I see three main possibilities for storing them in other field types, and converting on going in and out: Using a signed int is probably easiest and most space efficient, but has the disadvantage that they're not human readable and if someone forgets to do the conversion, some of them will work, which may obscure errors. Raw binary is probably most difficult for inexperienced programmers to deal with, and also suffers from non-human-readability. A string representation is the least space efficient (~40 bytes in unicode vs 8 bytes per field), but then at least all of the possible values will map properly, and for querying only a conversion to string is required instead of a more complicated conversion. I need these values to be available from different platforms, so a single driver-specific solution isn't an option. Any major pros and cons I've missed? Which one would you use?

  I have a Javascript array. I want to pass it's data to a servlet using the ajax() method of jQuery. What is the easiest way to do this. The index values i.e. the i in array[i] are not in order, they are numbers that have meaning themselves, hence I cannot simply loop through and create a GET queryString, or so I believe. Maybe I should be converting the JavaScript array to a JSON Object and sending that to the server ?? I am stumped on this one.

  I am trying to pass a value from C++ to TCL. As I cannot pass pointers without the use of some complicated modules, I was thinking of converting a vector to a char array and then passing this as a null terminated string (which is relatively easy). I have a vector as follows: 12, 32, 42, 84 which I want to convert into something like: "12 32 42 48" The approach I am thinking of is to use an iterator to iterate through the vector and then convert each integer into its string representation and then add it into a char array (which is dynamically created initially by passing the size of the vector). Is this the right way or is there a function that already does this?

• Mac OS date command - getting higher temporal resolution

  Hey all, I am trying to use the date command in Terminal on multiple Mac OS X machines that are synced via NTP to synchronize some code in a program. Essentially I am running a program... MyProgram with arguments[date] I can get date to give me the seconds since the Unix epoch with the %M specifier. When I try to use %N to get nanosecond resolution, date just returns N. Is there anyway to get date to give me finer then second resolution? I wouldn't even mind passing two arguments such as (date +%M):arg2 And then converting units in the program.   I'm using HttpRequest to download several pages from a website (in a loop). Simplifying it looks like this: HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create( "http://sub.domain.com/something/" + someString ); HttpWebResponse resp = (HttpWebResponse)req.GetResponse(); //do something I'm not quite sure actually but every request seems to resolve the address again (I don't know how to test if I'm right). I would like to boost it a little and resolve the address once and then reuse it for all requests. I can't work out how to force HttpRequest into using it, though. I have tried using Dns.GetHostAddresses, converting the result to a string and passing it as the address to HttpWebRequest.Create. Unfortunately, server returns error 404 then. I managed to google that's probably because the "Host" header of the http query doesn't match what the server expects. Is there a simple way to solve this?

But what would you call it when you wish to keep the various parts of an application separate at the presentation layer as well? My first thought was "Facade" but it turns out that's something entirely different. In my particular case, I'm converting an application from a sprawling procedural mess to a clean MVC architecture, but it's a long-term process -- we need to keep things separated as much as possible to facilitate a slow integration with the rest of the system. Our application is web-based, built in PHP, so for instance, we have an "index.php" and an IndexController, a "account.php" and an AccountController, a "dashboard.php" and DashboardController, and so on.

  I am working on an online portal, where researchers can upload their research papers. One requirement is, that all PDFs are stored in PDF/A-format. As I can't rely on the users to generate PDF/A conforming documents, I need a tool to check and convert standard PDFs into PDF/A format. What is the best tool you know of? Price Quality Speed Available APIs Open-source tools would be prefered, but a search revealed none. iText can create PDF/a, but converting isn't easy to do, as you have to read every page and copy it to a new document, losing all bookmarks and annotations in this process. (At least as far as I know, if you know of an easy solution, let me know). APIs should be available for either PHP, Java or a command-line-tool should be provided. Please do not list either GUI-only or Online-only solutions.

• Fast, lightweight XML parser

  I have a specific format XML document that I will get pushed. This document will always be the same type so it's very strict. I need to parse this so that I can convert it into JSON (well, a slightly bastardized version so someone else can use it with DOJO). My question is, shall I use a very fast lightweight (no need for SAX, etc.) XML parser (any ideas?) or write my own, basically converting into a StringBuffer and spinning through the array? Basically, under the covers I assume all HTML parsers will spin thru the string (or memory buffer) and parse, producing output on the way through.   I used 'package.skeleton()' to generate .Rd help files a few months ago. I have edited these files, and I have also changed the functions, removed some functions, added others. Is there a function that automates updating the Rd files? update A nice package was just released called Rd2roxygen, it is described by the author Yihui Xie on his blog. As the name implies, this package allows one to retroactively insert documentation currently contained in .Rd into .R files. Sounds like a promising approach for both learning roxygen and for converting packages currently in development to R packages. Woo hoo. Thanks Yihui!

The canned kCFNumberFormatterPercentStyle automatically x100 which I don't want. For example, converting 5.0 to 5.0% versus 500%.
