  Hello! Is there any way in PostgreSQL to convert UTF-8 characters to "similar" ASCII characters? String glažškunu rukiši would have to be converted to glazskunu rukisi. UTF-8 text is not in some specific language, it might be in Latvian, Russian, English, Italian or any other language. This is needed for using in where clause, so it might be just "comparing strings" rather than "converting strings". I tried using convert, but it does not give desired results (e.g., select convert('A', 'utf8', 'sql_ascii') gives \304\200, not A). Database is created with: ENCODING = 'UTF8' LC_COLLATE = 'Latvian_Latvia.1257' LC_CTYPE = 'Latvian_Latvia.1257' These params may be changed, if necessary.

• Line break and also getting space in HL7 message

  My BizTalk receive XML message as a input message. I am converting that message to HL7 message using Transform in orchestration. Now if input message consists of any empty field in any of the node, the HL7 message breaks up at that postion and also include space in that message. • How to override HTML <FONT SIZE="2"> with CSS

  I was given the task of doing a facelift to our current site. I am moderately well versed in CSS so I am converting the bazillion tags to CSS styles and deleting about 2 times that many that were simply not necessary. It's all going well until I run into a certain product page that is only a wrapper into which other HTML files are pulled by a server.execute(filename) command. (we're using aspx for the wrapper page.) There are almost 700 of these pages and they all are cursed with this and that. Past editors with FrontPage that only know how to drag pretty things on the screen. Anyway, I am wondering if there is a way to use CSS in the wrapper page to override the tag behavior so I can make it something sane that fits with the rest of my pages. I'd even be open to something JavaScript that would remove the tags, but that's my less preferred solution. Thanks!

  we are using EJB3 in our application. Our design aim is to separate persistence layer from Business Layer. So we have developed XXXbean classes to be used as SLSB and XXXRepository classes to be used as persistence classes. We also have POJO that implement reusable NON business logic(get list of countries etc) and we call then service/helper Classes. We use EJB3 JPA (using Hibernate provider) and Repository classes has all the methods for CRUD operation and the get methods for data access. Currently XXXRepository classes are all POJO and we instantiate these classes directly from the bean XXXClasses or from the service Objects. Should the XXXRepository classes be SLSB ? what would be the benefits and pitfalls of converting them to SLSB?

• Html combo box to database record Id

  I'm fairly sure there has to be a simple solution to my problem, but I am a new web developer and can't quite figure it out. On my page I have a combo box whose values are filled from my database. When the user submits the form, how to I go about converting those values back to the record numbers in the database? Up to now I have been just doing a sort of reversed lookup in my database to try to get the record's ID. This has quite a few obvious flaws and I am sure that there has to be a better way. I am used to MS Forms combo boxes where the record data and ID are never separated. But in the case of a web form, I have no way to do multiple columns in the combo box like I am used to. Thanks!   I'm making a request from a java webapp to an Oracle' stored procedure which happens to have a Timestamp IN parameter. In the testing environment, it works sending: SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yyyy hh:mm:ss a"); input.setTimestampField(dateFormat.format(new Date())); But in the production environment, it raises an exception ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string. I know the testing environment should be a replica of the production site, but it is not in my hands to set them properly. And I need to send the Timestamp field despite the way they setup the database. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  I am looking for something like TRYCAST in TSQL or an equivalent method / hack. In my case I am extracting some date data from an xml column. The following query throws "Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime." if the piece of data found in the xml cannot be converted to datetime (in this specific case, the date is "0001-01-01" in some cases). • Why won't this SQL CAST work?

  I have a nvarchar(50) column in a SQL Server 2000 table defined as follows: TaskID nvarchar(50) NULL I need to fill this column with some random SQL Unique Identifiers (I am unable to change the column type to uniqueidentifier). I tried this: UPDATE TaskData SET TaskID = CAST(NEWID() AS nvarchar) but I got the following error: Msg 8115, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type nvarchar. I also tried: UPDATE TaskData SET TaskID = CAST(NEWID() AS nvarchar(50)) but then got this error: Msg 8152, Level 16, State 6, Line 1 String or binary data would be truncated. I don't understand why this doesn't work but this does: DECLARE @TaskID nvarchar(50) SET @TaskID = CAST(NEW() AS nvarchar(50)) I also tried CONVERT(nvarchar, NEWID()) and CONVERT(nvarchar(50), NEWID()) but got the same errors.

• MinGW and "delcaration does not declare anything"

  I'm working on converting a Linux project of mine to compile on Windows using MinGW. It compiles and runs just fine on Linux, but when I attempt to compile it with MinGW it bombs out with the following error message: camera.h:11: error: declaration does not declare anything camera.h:12: error: declaration does not declare anything I'm kind of baffled why this is happening, because I'm using the same version of g++ (4.4) on both Linux and Windows (via MinGW). The contents of camera.h is absurdly simple. Here's the code. • A compiler for automata theory

  I'm designing a programming language for automata theory. My goal is to allow programmers to use machines (DFA, NFA, etc...) as units in expressions. I'm confused whether the language should be compiled, interpreted, or jit-compiled! My intuition is that compilation is a good choice, for some operations might take too much time (converting NFA's to equivalent DFA's can be expensive). Translating to x86 seems good. There is one issue however: I want the user to be able to plot machines. Any ideas?

• Convert void* representation of a dword to wstring

  I am having dumb monday so my apologies for posting such a newbie-like question. I am using CRegKey.QueryValue to return a dword value from the registry. QueryValue writes the value into void* pData and the length into ULONG* pnBytes. Now there is a way of getting it from pData into a wstring probably via stringstream. The closest I came was getting the result as a hex string. I was about to work on converting the hex representation to a dword and then from there to a wstring when I decided that was just dumb and ask on here instead of wasting another hour of my life on the problem.

I can't convert the string into integer because it's resulting me into a boolean (when I'm using var_dump). I can convert the other integer in string, but I'm unable to multiply it.   Converting a C++ lib to ANSI C and it seems like though ANSI C doesn't support default values for function variables or am I mistaken? What I want is something like int funcName(int foo, bar* = NULL); Also, is function overloading possible in ANSI C? Would need const char* foo_property(foo_t* /* this */, int /* property_number*/); const char* foo_property(foo_t* /* this */, const char* /* key */, int /* iter */); Could of course just name them differently but being used to C++ I kinda used to function overloading.

• flex checkbox value not selected from database

  Hi, I have a small flex datagrid. The dataProvider is an xmlList. I have two columns, userList and user permissions. The user permissions column as checkboxes. The values for the checkbox are stored as 0 and 1 in mySQL. While returning it from PHP, I am converting them to true or false. Its returning the values correctly to the frontend. But inside the itemrenderer, the checkbox is not being set to true or false. Either everything is true or everything is false.   Our company is looking to integrate invoices into a new system we are developing. We require some a solution to create a layout of the invoice and then convert to pdf. We have considered just laying out the invoice in html/css then converting to pdf. We have also considered using SVG-PDf conversion. Both of these solutions integrate well into our existing templating language used for our web application. Historically we have been a Microsoft based business and used Crystal Reports for such a task but we are looking an open source Linux solution for this project. Does any one have any suggestions of an approach or technology we could use for such a task?

  Hey guys, I am grabbing a JSON array and storing it in a NSArray, however it includes JSON encoded UTF-8 strings, for example pass\u00e9 represents passé. I need a way of converting all of these different types of strings into the actual character. I have an entire NSArray to convert. Or I can convert it when it is being displayed, which ever is easiest. • How do you go from an abstract project description to actual code?

  Maybe its because I've been coding around two semesters now, but the major stumbling block that I'm having at this point is converting the professor's project description and requirements to actual code. Since I'm currently in Algorithms 101, I basically do a bottom-up process, starting with a blank whiteboard and draw out the object and method interactions, then translate that into classes and code. But now the prof has tossed interfaces and abstract classes into the mix. Intellectually, I can recognize how they work, but am stubbing my toes figuring out how to use these new tools with the current project (simulating a web server). In my professors own words, mapping the abstract description to Java code is the real trick. So what steps are best used to go from English (or whatever your language is) to computer code? How do you decide where and when to create an interface, or use an abstract class?

  I start to use Java annotations heavily. One example is taking method with annotations and converting them into 'telnet'-based command-line command. I do this by parsing annotations and hook into jopt option parser. However, I do a lot of these manually. For example, Method parameter annotation processing.. • How do I convert a windows forms app from C# to VB ?

  I've been converting all kinds of other things, classes, interfaces, ASP.NET MVC apps, and WPF applications, but I am stumped as to how to convert a windows forms application, as the whole structure seems to be different. Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle this problem? I see essentially that you have two files, Form1.cs and Form1.Designer.cs. Literally translating them from C# to VB doesn't work because of some intricacies or other of how Visual Basic works. I think you /might/ be able to convert Form1.cs in this way, as it's just a constructor plus event handlers, but the designer contains the references to the controls etc. and I am not sure how to go about doing that. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2.
