    I have a WCF service deployed in a server machine. We are using claims based authentication to authenticate the WCF service caller. The WCF service is restricted by using IIS Authorization rules. How do I programmatically invoke the WCF service using .NET? The client app uses a proxy generated using SVCUtil. calling the service reads the credentials from a configuration file (not the app.config file, in fact the client application does not have a *.config file).

  • Best practice stock management when payment of customer failed using SQL Server and ASP.NET

    Hi there, I am currently building a webshop for my own where I want to increment the product-stock when the user fails to complete payment within 10 minutes after the customer placed the order. I want to gather information from this thread to make a design decision. I am using SQL Server 2008 and ASP.NET 3.5. Suppose I am creating a service in IIS localhost. example localhost\TestService\Service.svc (WCFService Website). and my client is in d:\demo\client (windows form) Does it mean client is running on different AppDomian and Service is running on different Appdomain? How can i have client and service both running on same AppDomain?

    Hi, I'm creating an SSRS report which contains a table of orders, grouped by day. Now I can easily get the max order value for the day and put it in the group header by using the SSRS MAX() function. However, I also want to get the corresponding customer name who placed this order, and place this in the group header too. We can assume my result set simply contains date, name and order value. Is there any way to do this in SSRS 2008? Thanks

  • Asp.net web service: Problems accessing without www

    I have a Asp.net web service running on www.domain.com/Service.svc that I connect to using jQuery from my asp.net website. Everything works perfect if the user access my website with www.domain.com. But if the user uses only domain.com I get error: There was no channel actively listening at 'http://domain.com/Service.svc/get?date=2010-10-09'. This is often caused by an incorrect address URI. Ensure that the address to which the message is sent matches an address on which a service is listening. In my web.config I use the serviceHostingEnvironment tag to get the service running on my webhost (it doesn't work otherwise). Maybe this is what causes the error?   • Should windows services be created with custom users, or should I use one of LocalSystem/LocalServic

    I'm asking the question in general for the average custom developed NT service or unix OSS daemon ported to windows with SCM support. However, at the moment my immediate concern is for mongodb. From my experience with UNIX I like all my services to run as different unprivileged users. The way this has translated to windows is as follows: Create a local (or domain if it has to talk to SQL server) windows user with a long random password (lately an ASCII85 encoded guid generated from a different machine). Set it to next expire and forbid it from changing its password. Remove that user from the "Users Group". Grant that user "Login as a Service" permission. Give it read permission to the folder where the app resides, and write permission to the logs and data files the applications use. Assign the user to the service. Troubleshoot until the service starts. My feeling is that the unprivileged users are less powerful than the 3 special service users. I also feel that by isolating which users run which services, I would limit collateral damage if a way to compromise one service was found.

    We know the optimal situation of negotiating corrections of specifications with the customer, getting the specs to do what the client wanted, not what they said or thought they wanted. That's negotiating, explaining. Sometimes, we're unable to convince the client. We're forced to produce broken as designed. This, called "demonology" by merit of mages summoning demons and demons fulfilling their wishes very literally, causing the mage's demise as result, is another approach that will leave the customer very dissatisfied once they realize their error, and of course try to pin the blame on the developer. Now I just faced a very different approach: the customer created simple specs that fail to account for some critical caveat, and is completely unwilling to fix them, admit the obvious errors and accept suggested corrections. The product made to these specs will be critically broken, and possibly might cost human lives. Still, it's too late to drop the contract entirely. The contract has punitive clauses for that, ones we can't really accept. The boss' decision? We do the work right and lie to the customer that we did it according to the specs. The algorithms in question are hidden deep enough under the surface, the product will do the work just fine, won't fail in the caveat situation, and unless someone digs too deep, they will never discover we didn't break it as requested. Is there some common name for this tactics of execution of specs?
