  • How is counting sort a stable sort?

    - by eSKay
Suppose my input is (a,b and c to distinguish between equal keys) 1 6a 8 3 6b 0 6c 4 My counting sort will save as (discarding the a,b and c info!!) 0(1) 1(1) 3(1) 4(1) 6(3) 8(1) which will give me the result 0 1 3 4 6 6 6 8 So, how is this stable sort? I am not sure how it is "maintaining the relative order of records with equal keys." Please explain.

  • Floating point inaccuracy examples

    - by David Rutten
How do you explain floating point inaccuracy to fresh programmers and laymen who still think computers are infinitely wise and accurate? Do you have a favourite example or anecdote which seems to get the idea across much better than an precise, but dry, explanation? How is this taught in Computer Science classes?

  • Singleton design pattern vs Singleton beans in Spring container

    - by Peeyush
As we all know we have beans as singleton by default in Spring container and if we have a web application based on Spring framework then in that case do we really need to implement Singleton design pattern to hold global data rather than just creating a bean through spring. Please bear with me if I'm not able to explain what I actually meant to ask.

  • Why sometimes Windows cannot kill a process?

    - by Néstor Sánchez A.
Right now I'm trying to Run/Debung my app on VisualStudio, but it cannot create it because the las instance of the app.vshost.exe is still running. Then, by using the Task Manager i'm trying to kill it, but it just remains there with no signal of activity. Beyond that particular case (maybe a VS bug), i'm very curious about the technical reasons why sometimes Windows cannot kill a process??? Can, an enlighted OS related developer, please try to explain? (And please don't start a Unix/Linux/Mac battle against Windows)

  • C# - Hook/Overlay a DirectX game?

    - by Dodi300
Hello. Can anyone tell me how to hook/overlay a DirectX game in C#? I've tried getting a fullscreen C# window to overlap a game, however it wont. After researching a little, I found out that I need to hook the game and then display the C# window. Can anyone explain how I would do this? Would I be able to display a C# form over a DirectX game?

  • Java Program Specialization - What is it? I don't understand it..

    - by KP65
I'm reading about program specialization - specifically java and I don't think I quite understand it to be honest. So far what I understand is that it is a method for optimizing efficiency of programs by constraining parameters or inputs? How is that actually done? Can someone maybe explain to me how it helps, and maybe an example of what it actually does and how its done? Thanks

  • Nested Row problem

    - by Patrick
Hi, I'm using the 1kb css grid framework for a site, and although nested rows are apparently supported by the framework, when I try to drop in a nested row it doesn't work! Sorry not to explain it better - the site's here, may be easier to just look at the source: http://2605.co.uk/saf/build/ the grid: /grid.css the stylesheet: /style.css I'm a graphic designer hacking his way through a site he shouldn't be having to build but there's no budget to speak of! Cheers for any help, Patrick
