If i rename the same file to have it extension to some other ie. ".dll" or ".txt", then i am able to see all the information (file/version info, copyright info). Is it expected for Win2k8-R2. Is it documented somewhere?? Any help will be appreciated

  • Shakin' things up

    - by j-t-s
Hi All I have a little app here, and I would love to be able to do my own stuff in Vista/Win7 when I shake the form. Currently, when a form is shaken, it will restore/minimize everything else. But I want to change that behavior in my app only. So when my form is shaken, I could, for example, shuffle the playlist, or Clear the contents of a Canvas etc... Is this possible? Thank you

  • How to do a Translate Animation for both axis(X, Y) at the same time?

    - by user1235555
    I am doing something like this in my Storyboard method but not able to achieve the desired result. This animation I want to be played after the page is loaded. private void PhoneApplicationPage_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { CreateTranslateAnimation(image1); } private void CreateTranslateAnimation(UIElement source) { Storyboard sb = new Storyboard(); DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames animationFirstX = new DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames(); source.RenderTransform = new CompositeTransform(); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(animationFirstX, new PropertyPath(CompositeTransform.TranslateXProperty)); Storyboard.SetTarget(animationFirstX, source.RenderTransform); animationFirstX.KeyFrames.Add(new EasingDoubleKeyFrame() { KeyTime = kt1, Value = 20 }); DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames animationFirstY = new DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames(); source.RenderTransform = new CompositeTransform(); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(animationFirstY, new PropertyPath(CompositeTransform.TranslateYProperty)); Storyboard.SetTarget(animationFirstY, source.RenderTransform); animationFirstY.KeyFrames.Add(new EasingDoubleKeyFrame() { KeyTime = kt1, Value = 30 }); sb.Children.Add(animationFirstX); sb.Children.Add(animationFirstY); sb.Begin(); } Too cut it short... I want to write .cs code equivalent to this code <Storyboard x:Name="Storyboard1"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(CompositeTransform.TranslateX)" Storyboard.TargetName="image1"> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:0.5" Value="20"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(CompositeTransform.TranslateY)" Storyboard.TargetName="image1"> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:0.5" Value="30"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard>

  • Open default browser as standard user (C++)

    - by Disco
I'm currently using ShellExecute "open" to open a URL in the user's browser, but running into a bit of trouble in Win7 and Vista because the program runs elevated as a service. When ShellExecute opens the browser, it seems to read the "Local Admin" profile instead of the user's. So for example, if the user at the keyboard has Firefox as his default browser, it may open IE (which is the admin's default). I know that the "runas" verb can be used to elevate, but how do you do it the other way around? Is there a way to open a URL in the default browser on a standard user's desktop from a service?

  • Prevent monitor from powering on

    - by concretemixer
I'm turning off the monitor using SendMessage(HWND_BROUADCART, WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_MONITORRPOWER, 2). That works, but the monitor turns back on when someone touches the keyboard or mouse. I tried to get rid of this using the DevicePowerSetDeviceState function with DEVICEPOWER_CLEAR_WAKEENABLED for the keyboard and mouse: it returns no error, but has no effect either. How can I prevent the monitor from powering back on in Vista and Windows7?

  • Color difference between vista and Win7

    - by MSGrimpeur
Have an indicator in the form of an image which is displayed in a graphics viewport. The indicator can be any colour the user selects so we created a single image with a pallette and change a specific color in the pallette to the one the user picks using the following code. /// <summary> /// Copies the image and sets transparency and fill colour of the copy. The image is intended to be a simple filled shape such as a square /// with the inside all in one colour. /// </summary> /// <remarks>Assumes the fill colour to be changed is Red, /// black is the boundary colour and off white (RGB 233,233,233) is the colour to be made transparent</remarks> /// <param name="image"></param> /// <param name="fillColour"></param> /// <returns></returns> protected Bitmap CopyWithStyle(Bitmap image, Color fillColour) { ColorPalette selectionIndicatorPalette = image.Palette; int fillColourIndex = selectionIndicatorPalette.IndexOf(Color.Red); selectionIndicatorPalette.Entries[fillColourIndex] = fillColour; image.Palette = selectionIndicatorPalette; Bitmap tempImage = image; tempImage.MakeTransparent(transparentColour); return tempImage; } To be honest I'm not sure if this is a bit cludgy and there is some smarter approach or not, so any thoughts there would help. However the main issue is that this appears to work fine on Win7 but in vista and XP the color does not change. Has any one seen this before. I've found one or two articles that suggest there are some differences in ARGB between them but nothing particularly concrete. Any help greatfully accepted.

  • How to Recover that Photo, Picture or File You Deleted Accidentally

    - by The Geek
Have you ever accidentally deleted a photo on your camera, computer, USB drive, or anywhere else? What you might not know is that you can usually restore those pictures—even from your camera’s memory stick. Windows tries to prevent you from making a big mistake by providing the Recycle Bin, where deleted files hang around for a while—but unfortunately it doesn’t work for external USB drives, USB flash drives, memory sticks, or mapped drives. Luckily there’s another way to recover deleted files. Note: we originally wrote this article a year ago, but we’ve received this question so many times from readers, friends, and families that we’ve polished it up and are republishing it for everybody. • Operating System not Found after installing Ubuntu in a Sony Vaio

    - by diego8arock
I just bought a Sony Vaio SVS15115FLB that came with Windows 7, after enjoying the PC graphic power for a little, I decided it was time to install Ubuntu 12.04. First, I inserted a USB stick, reboot, press F11 but a message saying that no OS was found on the USB, so then I used a live CD. It booted fine and I installed Ubuntu, then when it was time to restart the PC, it didn't boot to GRUB but it went straight to Windows and it began an startup error and was looking for a solution, after it was done, it restarted and then it booted again to Windows and to the same start up error solution thing. I freaked out, so I booted again the Ubuntu live CD, and installed Ubuntu over everything, after it installed I rebooted and then a message appeared saying Operating system Not Found, and I have no idea why. So I Googled again and found this post on Boot Partition, I did everything exactly on that post, but it didn't work (by the way, this was the message): The boot files of [Ubuntu 12.04 LTS] are far from the start of the disk. Your BIOS may not detect them. You may want to retry after creating a /boot partition (EXT4, >200MB, start of the disk). This can be performed via tools such as gParted. Then select this partition via the [Separate /boot partition:] option of [Boot Repair]. It appeared the first time, then I did it all again and then it was gone. I rebooted and nothing, the same Operating System not found message appeared. So I decided to create a partition for Windows, hoping for something, but the message still appears. I really have no idea what to do, but there is something odd, if I insert the USB stick containing Ubuntu 11.10, the message that says that there is no OS in the PendDrive flashes for a fraction of a second and the boot straight to Ubuntu 12.04 without problems (and booted to Windows when I installed it, ignoring Ubuntu), right now I'm using it like that, but its pretty annoying. Can anyone advise me how to fix this? I'm no expert on this kind of things (boot, GRUB, recovery and stuff like that).

  • External hard drive becomes unwriteable after awhile

    - by Brandon
I have an external USB hard drive mounted in Ubuntu 9.10 with full read/write abilities over SMB. If it stays on for awhile though, I lose the ability to write to it. I end up having to ssh in and unmount, mount, reboot in order to have write ability again. Any reason on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

  • Unattended Fedora kickstart that works as CD/DVD *and* USB

    - by hapalibashi
Is it possible to create one ISO with one kickstart file that will work correctly when written to CD/DVD and as a USB? As far as I can tell I need two separate versions as modifications are needed in isolinux.cfg (ks=) and ks.cfg (because I access the install media in %post) It seems odd isolinux.cfg doesn't default to the root of the installation media and that kickstart doesn't have a global define for the source media device. Or is there an alternative to kickstart?

  • Windows Server 2012 Migration (DNS/AD DS Standard Eval to Essentials OEM) P2V -> Do I need a Secondary Domain Controller during migration?

    - by Aubrey Robertson
This is my first post on this exchange (although not my first on stack exchange), so please have patience. I am a 3rd year student intern, and I have been tasked with virtualizing the server systems at the company I work for. I have come a long way, and I am almost ready to install the VM Server in migration mode. Here is some information: Source Server: Windows Server 2012 Standard Evaluation DNS Server (local only) Advanced Directory Domain Services File and Storage stuff A few other server roles Destination Server: Windows Server 2012 Essentials OEM (Hyper-V client) Running under a temporary Hyper-V host (will migrate the Hyper-V host back to the old machine after the original server is virtualized as a client). Sitting currently at the "Select Installation Mode" screen. I have been following the guides on Microsoft tech net, and today I spent most of the day getting rid of issues in the Best Practices Analyser on the source machine. I have 3 remaining issues (which are all related): ERROR: DNS: DNS servers on Ethernet (adapter name) should include the loopback address, but not as the first entry (flavour text indicates that, during migration, the DNS server may not be found) WARNING: All domains should have at least two domain controllers for redundancy. WARNING: DNS: Ethernet should be configured to use both a preferred and an alternate DNS Server. All of these issues can be resolved by deploying a secondary domain controller, but I have never done that before (see my concerns below). The main issue here that I am concerned with for installing in migration mode is the FIRST one (the error). If I try and set-up the new server deployment, and the adapter domain controller is listed as localhost, then this may cause the installation to fail. (at least, this is what the Microsoft documentation suggests). But I do not have another IP address to enter here as I have no other local domain controllers. So I did the first obvious thing that came to my mind, and tried to use Google DNS servers as my alternates. That did not work because they couldn't recognize other computers in the "forest". Now I'm no expert when it comes to DNS, so please forgive my ignorance. This DNS server is concerned only with Active Directory stuffs for the local network. If I go ahead with migration, and it fails, then I will just have to go ahead and install a secondary DNS server I suppose. The problem I have here is that I am limited by the amount of Windows Server keys I have available (I have 2); however, I do have access to a Linux box running Debian Wheezy that I set-up two weeks ago as a Mantis server. I could install Windows Server 2012 as a secondary DNS (I think) in a VM and use that, but then it seems like I will be wasting time, and probably the Windows key too, and if there's another way to do it with Linux that would be much better. Even better still, do I even need a secondary DNS server for migration at all? The hints said that during migration the original machine "might" not be found. Thank you for your time and consideration.

  • Self-Charging, USB Portable Speaker Recommendations

    - by Koobz
There are lots of strictly usb powered speakers, but I don't imagine they're that good. I'd like something that I can plug in at home, have the speakers charge and when I go to the park with my friends, I'm not compromising sound quality or battery life. Does anything like this exist?

  • SQL Server database on an external hard disk drive

    - by Achilles
Due to some security problems, My boss has asked me to store all sensitive data in external/removable storages like USB stick or external HDD and this specially includes the MDF/NDF/LDF files of SQL Server 2008 we're running. I've been reading for these last three days with no luck to find a solution. Is there any solution at all? Has ever anybody done such thing?

  • Arch linux as a wireless router with a USB modem

    - by orlox
I'm trying to act as an access point to share the internet I get from a USB modem on arch linux. From what I've seen so far, most of what I've found deals with installing particular distributions like DD-WRT to this purpose, but I haven't been able to find any particular and comprehensive solution. Has anyone done this before? I don't know how relevant it might be, but my wireless card is a broadcom device.
