• System Center 2012 Service Manager change request status stuck at new

  The guy that built and setup this system left rather abruptly and I've taken over. My current issues are I have several change requests that are stuck at New. They do not move to Pending or In Progress. The system is not sending emails when incidents are getting assigned to people. This used to work on this system. I have done a lot of searching and the usual solution to this of stopping and restarting the system center services does not help. Can anyone give me any ideas of where else to look? Update: From all the searching I have done it seemed like I was at the point of re-installing. My initial installation of SCSM 2012 was on a machine that was upgraded from SCSM 2010 and also hosted SCCM 2007 and WSUS. We decided to give it a fresh start on a new server by installing a second instance of the SCSM server on a brand new 2008 R2 server then promoting the new server to the workflow master using the procedures outlined in this article - Dealing with Multiple management Servers. I've gotten to the point where we have both the old and the new server up and the new server has been promoted. I had hopped to get spammed by emails all the sudden due to the workflow taking off, but no such luck. Once all the clients are reconfigured to point to the new server we still plan to decommission the old server but at this point it seems to be that the problem is in the database. Short of any other input from the community, my next plan is to install a 180 day trial on a test server, complete with a separate database so that I can do a side by side comparison between a completely fresh install and what I have now and see if I can find any differences. While that install is running I also plan on investigating the event logs to see if there is anything in there that can shed some light on what is happening on the new server. Update 2: So I've now got a test SCSM server up with a completely fresh install including Database and it seems to be able to transition Change Requests from New to In Progress. I'm attempting to find differences between the two. Stay Tuned! Update 3: In looking through the event log on the new SCSM machine i discovered: Log Name: Operations Manager Source: OpsMgr Root Connector Date: 10/9/2013 3:48:18 PM Event ID: 28000 Task Category: None Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: scsm02 Description: The Root connector received an exception from the SDK Service while submitting task status: Cannot set availability on a health service that doesn't exist. This lead me to Event ID 2800 logged after installing secondary server for System Center 2012 Service Manager SP1. I contacted MS to obtain the hotfix, BIG warning here, turns out the hotfix is not so "hot". In order to apply this hotfix, you have to uninstall then reinstall using the files they supply. :( This is where I am at now ... Update 4: Not much luck after the re-install. The errors in the event log have gone away on the new server but the workflows still aren't running and neither the event log nor the workflow status screen seem to indicate why. I've done a comparison of the Activity and the Change Request Event Workflows and I've removed everything from the production system that is not in my fresh test system (which is everything), shut down the services, cleared out the cache folders and restarted the services and still no joy. At the moment the only thing I can think to do is either a)nuke the entire system including the database and start over, losing all of our data in the process or b)contact MS (which is probably going to cost us a butt load of money and time in the end to only advise us to do the same thing. Maybe more idea's will come after coffee ... No answers came after coffee. Attempting to contact MS. Managed to get to their first line of defense, gave them our SA number and someone is supposed to call me back. I am trying to log into my incident on their site to update my ticket with the link to this thread but when i click on the link in the email they sent me it goes to a "Sorry, the page you requested is not available" page ... Linux is looking better and better all the time.

• How to improve Varnish performance?

  We're experiencing a strange problem with our current Varnish configuration. 4x Web Servers (IIS 6.5 on Windows 2003 Server, each installed on a Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5450 @ 3.00GHz Quad Core, 4GB RAM) 3x Varnish Servers (varnish-3.0.3 revision 9e6a70f on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS - 64 bit/precise, Kernel Linux 3.2.0-29-generic, each installed on a Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5450 @ 3.00GHz Quad Core, 4GB RAM) The Varnish Servers performance are awfully bad in general, to the point that if we shut down one of them the other two are unable to fullfill all the requests and start to skip beats resulting in pending requests, timeouts, 404, etc. What can we do to improve our Varnish performance? Considering that we're getting less than 5k request per seconds during our max peak, we should be able to serve our pages even with a single one of them without any problem. If those numbers from fseek (48404774912) represent bytes, that would be something like 45 gigabytes, with this beeing a 3 terrabyte disk, which would give me 134 days to go, if the speed stays constant, and he scans the disk like this completly and only once. Do you have some advice for me? I have most of the data on that disk elsewhere, but I've put a lot of hours into sorting and merging it to this disk, so I would prefer to getting this disk up and running again, without formatting it anew. I don't think that the hardware is damaged since the disk is only a few months and since I can't see any I/O errors in the dmesg output. • DNS works only with ip but does not work with NS CentOS + Bind9

  I am having a headache with DNS. Lets say my public IP is 1.2.3.4, my local IP is 192.168.0.10 and my domain is example.com I am running CentOS on a virtual machine (Parallels Desktop for Mac) with a LAN card reserved for it, so it gets Ip directly from the router. I have ports 80,443,53 forwarded to 192.168.0.10. Both Mac OS and CentOs firewalls are Off.   I have a Mac mini that I use as a media server running XBMC and serves media from my NAS to my stereo and TV (which has been color calibrated with a Spyder3Express, happy). I believe my anonymous VPN provider pushes "redirect_gateway" to OpenVPN/Tunnelblick because when on it effectively tunnels all non-LAN traffic in- and outbound. As an unwanted side effect that also opens the boxes server ports unprotected to the outside world and bypasses my firewall-router (Netgear SRX5308). I have run nmap from outside the LAN on the VPN IP and the server ports on the mini are clearly visible and connectable. The mini has the following ports open: ssh/22, ARD/5900 and 8080+9090 for the XBMC iOS client Constellation. I also have Synology NAS which apart from LAN file serving over AFP and WebDAV only serves up an OpenVPN/1194 and a PPTP/1732 server. When outside of the LAN I connect to this from my laptop over OpenVPN and over PPTP from my iPhone. I only want to connect through AFP/548 from the mini to the NAS. The border firewall (SRX5308) just works excellently, stable and with a very high throughput when streaming from various VOD services. My connection is a 100/10 with a close to theoretical max throughput. The ruleset is as follows Inbound: PPTP/1723 Allow always to 10.0.0.40 (NAS/VPN server) from a restricted IP range >corresponding to possible cell provider range OpenVPN/1194 Allow always to 10.0.0.40 (NAS/VPN server) from any Outbound: Default outbound policy: Allow Always OpenVPN/1194 TCP Allow always from 10.0.0.40 (NAS) to a.b.8.1-a.b.8.254 (VPN provider) OpenVPN/1194 UDP Allow always to 10.0.0.40 (NAS) to a.b.8.1-a.b.8.254 (VPN provider) Block always from NAS to any On the Mini I have disabled the OSX Application Level Firewall because it throws popups which don't remember my choices from one time to another and that's annoying on a media server. Instead I run Little Snitch which controls outgoing connections nicely on an application level. (until you tell me otherwise :) 1) Full LAN access to the above ports on the mini/media server (including through my own VPN server) 2) All internet traffic from the mini/media server is anonymized and tunneled over VPN 3) If OpenVPN/Tunnelblick on the mini drops the connection, nothing is leaked both because of pf and the router outgoing ruleset. It can't even do a DNS lookup through the router. So what do I have to hide with all this? Nothing much really, I just got carried away trying to stop port scans through the VPN tunnel :) In any case this setup works perfectly and it is very stable. The Problem at last! I want to run a minecraft server and I installed that on a separate user account on the mini server (user=mc) to keep things partitioned. I don't want this server accessible through the anonymized VPN tunnel because there are lots more port scans and hacking attempts through that than over my regular IP and I don't trust java in general. So I added the following pf rule on the mini: ### Allow Minecraft public through user mc pass in on $eth_if proto {tcp,udp} from any to any port 24983 user mc pass out on $eth_if proto {tcp, udp} from any to any user mc And these additions on the border firewall: Inbound: Allow always TCP/UDP from any to 10.0.0.40 (NAS) Outbound: Allow always TCP port 80 from 10.0.0.40 to any (needed for online account checkups) This works fine but only when the OpenVPN/Tunnelblick tunnel is down. When up no connection is possbile to the minecraft server from outside of LAN. inside LAN is always OK. Everything else functions as intended. I believe the redirect_gateway push is close to the root of the problem, but I want to keep that specific VPN provider because of the fantastic throughput, price and service. The Solution? How can I open up the minecraft server port outside of the tunnel so it's only available over en0 not the VPN tunnel? Should I a static route? But I don't know which IPs will be connecting...stumbles How secure would to estimate this setup to be and do you have other improvements to share? I've searched extensively in the last few days to no avail...If you've read this far I bet you know the answer :)

• EF4 POCO WCF Serialization problems (no lazy loading, proxy/no proxy, circular references, etc)

  OK, I want to make sure I cover my situation and everything I've tried thoroughly. I'm pretty sure what I need/want can be done, but I haven't quite found the perfect combination for success. I'm utilizing Entity Framework 4 RTM and its POCO support. I'm looking to query for an entity (Config) that contains a many-to-many relationship with another entity (App). I turn off lazy loading and disable proxy creation for the context and explicitly load the navigation property (either through .Include() or .LoadProperty()). However, when the navigation property is loaded (that is, Apps is loaded for a given Config), the App objects that were loaded already contain references to the Configs that have been brought to memory. This creates a circular reference. Now I know the DataContractSerializer that WCF uses can handle circular references, by setting the preserveObjectReferences parameter to true. I've tried this with a couple of different attribute implementations I've found online. It is needed to prevent the "the object graph contains circular references and cannot be serialized" error. However, it doesn't prevent the serialization of the entire graph, back and forth between Config and App. If I invoke it via WcfTestClient.exe, I get a stackoverflow (ha!) exception from the client and I'm hosed. I get different results from different invocation environments (C# unit test with a local reference to the web service appears to work ok though I still can drill back and forth between Configs and Apps endlessly, but calling it from a coldfusion environment only returns the first Config in the list and errors out on the others.) My main goal is to have a serialized representation of the graph I explicitly load from EF (ie: list of Configs, each with their Apps, but no App back to Config navigation.) NOTE: I've also tried using the ProxyDataContractResolver technique and keeping the proxy creation enabled from my context. This blows up complaining about unknown types encountered. I read that the ProxyDataContractResolver didn't fully work in Beta2, but should work in RTM. This in turn hoses up the WCF serialization, despite every effort made to properly handle circular references. I know it's a lot of information, but it's really standing in my way of going forward with EF4/POCO in our system. I've found several articles and blogs touching upon these subjects, but for the life of me, I cannot resolve this issue. Feel free to simply ask questions and help me brainstorm this situation. PS: For the sake of being thorough, I am injecting the WCF services using the HEAD build of Spring.NET for the fix to Spring.ServiceModel.Activation.ServiceHostFactory. However I don't think this is the source of the problem.

  I have updated our projects (Java EE based running on Websphere 8.5) to use a new release of a company internal framework (and Ejb 3.x deployment descriptors rather than the 2.x ones). Since then my integration Tests fail with the following exception: [java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory] I can build the application with the previous framework release and everything works fine. While debugging i noticed that within the ContextFinder (javax.xml.bind) there are two different behaviours: Previous Version (Everything works just fine): None of the different places brings up a factory class so the default factory class gets loaded which is com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.ContextFactory (defined as String constant within the class). Upgraded Version (ClassNotFound): There is a resource "META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext" beeing loaded successfully and the first line read makes the ContextFinder attempt to load "com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory" which causes the error. I now have two questions: What sort is that resource? Because inside our EAR there is two WARs and none of those two contains a folder services in its META-INF directory. Where could that value be from otherwise? Because a filediff showed me no new or changed properties files. No need to say i am going to read all about the JAXB configuration possibilities but if you have first insights on what could have gone wrong or help me out with that resource (is it a real file i have to look for?) id appreciate a lot. Many Thanks! EDIT (according to comments Input/Questions): Out of curiosity, does your framework include JAXB JARs? Did the old version of your framework include jaxb.properties? Indeed (i am a bit surprised) the framework has a customized eclipselink-2.4.1-.jar inside the EAR that includes both a JAXB implementation and a jaxb.properties file that shows the following entry in both versions (the one that finds the factory as well as in the one that throws the exception): javax.xml.bind.context.factory=org.eclipse.persistence.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory I think this is has nothing to do with the current issue since the jar stayed exactly the same in both EARs (the one that runs/ the one with the expection) It's also not clear to me why the old version of the framework was ever selecting the com.sun implementation There is a class javax.xml.bind.ContextFinder which is responsible for initializing the JAXBContextFactory. This class searches various placess for the existance of a jaxb.properties file or a "javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext" resource. If ALL of those places dont show up which Context Factory to use there is a deault factory loaded which is hardcoded in the class itself: private static final String PLATFORM_DEFAULT_FACTORY_CLASS = "com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.ContextFactory"; Now back to my problem: Building with the previous version of the framework (and EJB 2.x deployment descriptors) everything works fine). While debugging i can see that there is no configuration found and thatfore above mentioned default factory is loaded. Building with the new version of the framework (and EJB 3.x deployment descriptors so i can deploy) ONLY A TESTCASE fails but the rest of the functionality works (like i can send requests to our webservice and they dont trigger any errors). While debugging i can see that there is a configuration found. This resource is named "META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext". Here are the most important lines of how this resource leads to the attempt to load 'com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory' which then throws the ClassNotFoundException.   Whenever I use a RatingBar view in my layout, I suddenly get all kinds of compile errors. I'm using Android 2.0, but I've also tried 2.0.1, and 2.1, without joy. I also get a message: Shader 'android.graphics.BitmapShader' is not supported in Layout Editor, and an odd warning which may or maynot be related: warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute. I've tried using the RatingBar both within a tablelayout and outside it, but it behaves the same way. This is very puzzling and frustrating. Please help if you can.   I have this annoying mistake in some of my builds. There is no error in the project, because if I build again, then the problem disappears. The message only appears, when the site is deployed to a Windows 2008 Server. I first thought that it might be an issue with temporary files, but thats not the case. I deployed the build to a different web and the error still appears. The error appears on random actions of the site. Most of the time builds are ok, but each 3rd or 4th build produces runtime errors. I build using a WebdeploymentProject in release mode. Views are precompiled. It's not http://stackoverflow.com/questions/178194/in-asp-net-mvc-i-encounter-an-incorrect-type-error-when-rendering-a-page-with-the, because views have totally different names. How I can debug this problem or how I can get help for this? • Does the ulkJSON library have limitations when dealing with base64 in Delphi 7?

  I'm working on a project that is using Delphi 7 to consume RESTful services. We are creating and decoding JSON with the ulkJSON library. Up to this point I've been able to successfully build and send JSON containing a base64 string that exceed 5,160kb. I can verify that the base64 is being received by the services and verify the integrity of the base64 once its there. In addition to sending, I can also receive and successfully decode JSON with a smaller (~ 256KB or less) base64. However I am experiencing some issues on the return trip when larger (~1,024KB+) base64 is involved for some reason. But for some reason if the received JSON is larger than say 1,024kb the following line seems to just stop in its tracks: jsonObject := TlkJSON.ParseText(JSONFormattedString) as TlkJSONobject; No errors, no results. Following the debugger, I can go into the library, and see that the JSON string being passed is not considered to be JSON despite being in the format listed above. The only difference I can find between calls that work as expected and calls that do not work as expect appears to be the size of base64 being transmitted. Am I missing something completely obvious and should be shot for my code implementation (very possible)? Have I missed some notation regarding the limitations of the ulkJSON library? I'm questioning my sanity regarding the fundamental schema design (frazzled brain syndrome). Please feel free to suggest the 'idealized' schema. Alternatively, if the database design is correct, then is EF unable to match the keys because it perceives these foreign keys as a potential mis-configured 1:1 relationships (incorrectly)? In which case, is this an EF bug and how can I work around it?

• jQuery Validate - require at least one field in a group to be filled

  I'm using the excellent jQuery Validate Plugin to validate some forms. On one form, I need to ensure that the user fills in at least one of a group of fields. I think I've got a pretty good solution, and wanted to share it. Please suggest any improvements you can think of. Finding no built-in way to do this, I searched and found Rebecca Murphey's custom validation method, which was very helpful. I improved this in three ways: To let you pass in a selector for the group of fields To let you specify how many of that group must be filled for validation to pass To show all inputs in the group as passing validation as soon as one of them passes validation. So you can say "at least X inputs that match selector Y must be filled." The end result is a rule like this: partnumber: { require_from_group: [2,".productinfo"] } //The partnumber input will validate if //at least 2 `.productinfo` inputs are filled For best results, put this rule AFTER any formatting rules for that field (like "must contain only numbers", etc). This way, if the user gets an error from this rule and starts filling out one of the fields, they will get immediate feedback about the formatting required without having to fill another field first. Item #3 assumes that you're adding a class of .checked to your error messages upon successful validation. You can do this as follows, as demonstrated here. success: function(label) { label.html(" ").addClass("checked"); } As in the demo linked above, I use CSS to give each span.error an X image as its background, unless it has the class .checked, in which case it gets a check mark image. • MVC2 and MVC Futures causing RedirectToAction issues

  I've been trying to get the strongly typed version of RedirectToAction from the MVC Futures project to work, but I've been getting no where. Below are the steps I've followed, and the errors I've encountered. Any help is much appreciated. I created a new MVC2 app and changed the About action on the HomeController to redirect to the Index page. Return RedirectToAction("Index") However, I wanted to use the strongly typed extensions, so I downloaded the MVC Futures from CodePlex and added a reference to Microsoft.Web.Mvc to my project. I addded the following "import" statement to the top of HomeContoller.vb Imports Microsoft.Web.Mvc I commented out the above RedirectToAction and added the following line: Return RedirectToAction(Of HomeController)(Function(c) c.Index()) So far, so good. However, I noticed if I uncomment out the first (non Generic) RedirectToAction, it was now causing the following compile error: Error 1 Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'RedirectToAction' can be called with these arguments: Extension method 'Public Function RedirectToAction(Of TController)(action As System.Linq.Expressions.Expression(Of System.Action(Of TController))) As System.Web.Mvc.RedirectToRouteResult' defined in 'Microsoft.Web.Mvc.ControllerExtensions': Data type(s) of the type parameter(s) cannot be inferred from these arguments. Specifying the data type(s) explicitly might correct this error. Becuase I thought this might be some VB issue, I created a new MVC2 project using C# and tried the same as above. I added the following "using" statement to the top of HomeController.cs using Microsoft.Web.Mvc; This time, in the About action method, I could only manage to call the non-generic RedirectToAction by typing the full commmand as follows: return Microsoft.Web.Mvc.ControllerExtensions.RedirectToAction<HomeController>(this, c => c.Index()); Even though I had a "using" statement at the top of the class, if I tried to call the non-generic RedirectToAction as follows: return RedirectToAction<HomeController>(c => c.Index()); I would get the following compile error: Error 1 The non-generic method 'System.Web.Mvc.Controller.RedirectToAction(string)' cannot be used with type arguments What gives? It's not like I'm trying to do anything out of the ordinary. It's a simple vanilla MVC2 project with only a reference to the Futures assembly. I'm hoping that I've missed out something obvious, but I've been scratching my head for too long, so I figured I'd seek some assisstance. If anyone's managed to get this simple scenario working (in VB and/or C#) could they please let me know what, if anything, they did differently? Thanks!

  I am trying to use log4Net with Asp.net MVC and I cannot get anything to happen with it. i created a config that is in my web project root. My first progressbar is hidden but the second one is not displayed. I think I've done somthing wrong using the threads and handlers but I dont' know why. I was first using handler.sendMessage in place of handler.handleMessage but when I had several task in my connectionManager, the progressbar was updated only at the end of all tasks.   When trying to import shared definitions from a XML Schema, I can properly reference shared types, but referencing shared elements causes validation errors. • Installshield Development Error durring the Installation process

  Hey guys, I've been stuck by a problem for the past couple days that makes no sense to me. My installer builds fine in the Installshiled IDE but when it is about to finish the installation, int gets two errors then rollbacks: installation failure. Right when the install bar is at about 100%, an error box pops up that states this: "Error 1001.Exception occurred while initializing the installation: System.IO.FileLoadException: Attempt to load an unverifiable executable with fixups (IAT with more than 2 sections or a TLS section.) (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131019)." The box pops up once, then the installer flashes its status to "rollback" then pops up another error box, then once 'ok'ed it procedes to rollback as usual. Is this a registering command system that makes it attemp or what? I've been scouring the web all day and I've found some ideas, but I havent seen any solutions as of yet. The installers that I've tried(and failed) have always needed to be Setup.exes, when i try to build a .msi only setup I get this error message. It may help someone who knows more about this system than I do. Your project contains InstallShield prerequisites. A Setup.exe setup launcher is required if you are build a release that includes InstallShield prerequisites. Change your release settings to build Setup.exe, or remove the prerequisites from your project. -7076 There's nothing on the site that has anything from the error code, so I'm at a loss. • WCF Data Service BeginSaveChanges not saving changes in Silverlight app

  I'm having a hell of a time getting WCF Data Services to work within Silverlight. I'm using the VS2010 RC. I've struggled with the cross domain issue requiring the use of clientaccesspolicy.xml & crossdomain.xml files in the web server root folder, but I just couldn't get this to work. I've resorted to putting both the Silverlight Web App & the WCF Data Service in the same project to get past this issue, but any advice here would be good. But now that I can actually see my data coming from the database and being displayed in a data grid within Silverlight I thought my troubles were over - but no. I can edit the data and the in-memory entity is changing, but when I call BeginSaveChanges (with the appropriate async EndSaveChangescall) I get no errors, but no data updates in the database.   I have started to play around with boost python a bit and ran into a problem. I tried to expose a C++ class to python which posed no problems. But I can't seem to manage to implement the __str__ functionality for the class without getting build errors I don't understand. I'm using boost 1_42 prebuild by boostpro. I build the library using cmake and the vs2010 compiler. I have a very simple setup.   I'm trying to understand what is going on in the decorator @not_authenticated.
