• Visual Studio debugger problem

  In Visual Studio 2008, after debugging about 1-2 minutes, when I press F10 (Step Over), the debugger hangs and Visual Studio freezes for 5-10 seconds and then go to the next line. Then whatever I do (F10, F5, F11, etc), the debugger continues the execution as if i pressed F5 and all my forms that I was debugging close. I always have to restart the application. It is very hard to reproduce and it does not occurs every time I want to debug something. Does anyone has a solution ?

• Save UITextView content in NSString.

  Hi, I'm trying to save the contents of an UITextView into a NSString which I will somehow persist later. The problem is that the UITextView "text" property doesn't save all the rows in the textView (after touching "return"). I tried print the TextView object and the textView.text, and they're different. Does anybody know how (after editing the textView) I can save its content into a String (or something else that I can later access and share through different views and persist in the database)? Thanks a lot. Pretty sure it is simple, but I'm honestly not finding the solution.

  I've added a proxy to a webservice to a VS2008/.NET 3.5 solution. When constructing the client .NET throws this error: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'IMySOAPWebService' in the service model client configuaration section. This might be because no configuaration file was found for your application or because no end point element matching this contract could be found in the client element Searching for this error tells me to use the full namespace in the contract. Here's my app.config with full namespace: <client> <endpoint address="http://192.168.100.87:7001/soap/IMySOAPWebService" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="IMySOAPWebServicebinding" contract="Fusion.DataExchange.Workflows.IMySOAPWebService" name="IMySOAPWebServicePort" /> </client> I'm running XP local (I mention this because a number of Google hits mention win2k3) The app.config is copied to app.exe.config, so that is also not the problem. Any clues?

• How do you assign a variable with the result of a if..else block?

  I had an argument with a colleague about the best way to assign a variable in an if..else block. His orignal code was : @products = if params[:category] Category.find(params[:category]).products else Product.all end I rewrote it this way : if params[:category] @products = Category.find(params[:category]).products else @products = Product.all end This could also be rewritten with a one-liner using a ternery operator (? :) but let's pretend that product assignment was longer than a 100 character and couldn't fit in one line. Which of the two is clearer to you? The first solution takes a little less space but I thought that declaring a variable and assigning it three lines after can be more error prone. I also like to see my if and else aligned, makes it easier for my brain to parse it!

• can't see the result after i update a row in a table in a gridview

  Peace! i created a gridview and ive bended the data using a ObjectDataSource, for some reasons i created the CRUD methods to do the work instead of using the CRUD method generated by the LINQDataSource; everything is just working fine but the update method, when i update a row in my gridview everything become as if there isnt any update! but when i check the database i can see that the rows is been updated! i can't find a solution (yet) to this issue. i'am using the updatepanel to have the autopostback without refreshing the page. thank you

  What's the recommended way to deploy a website created with ASP.NET 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010? I've previously always added a web setup project to my solution, and used that to create an MSI, even for small applications. But when I build a web setup project in VS2010 it kind of works but some stuff still seems broken: 1. I need to turn on IIS 6 Compatibility on a Win 2008 R2 box to get the msi to run. 2. The msi includes web.config, web.debug.config, and web.release.config. I thought VS's web.config transformations was supposed to take care of that. -Matt

• What build param(s) to use so VS 2010 can gen .obj & link .objs but NOT create an .exe?

  Question title pretty much asks it all. I know I could set the project to be a .lib build and have it fail to build/link a .lib .... and the .objs tend to be in the appropriate config dir That seems like a shi*-a** backdoor way to get VS to gen objs Is there a flag/param I can set somewhere in the property sheet properties/options for Visual Studio so it links what it needs to & gens the respective objs for each source file? It's so freaking easy to just gen object files using gcc (and link in appropriate lib routines WITHOUT creating an executable) ... I'm sure I could also hack up a custom build rule but that seems like overkill [and since I'm not up to speed on the build rules for whatever version of make VS 2010 is using it's easier to ask someone else here for the simple solution]

  I'm stumped! We have a user control for managing account information. We use this particular control on two pages. On one page, everything works perfectly and meets our expectation. • How can I fix the scroll bug when using Windows rich edit controls in wxpython?

  When using wx.TextCtl with the wx.TE_RICH2 option in windows, I get this strange bug with the auto-scroll when using the AppendText function. It scrolls so that all the text is above the visible area, which isn't very useful behaviour. I tried just adding a call to ScrollLines(-1) after appending the text - which does scroll it to the correct position - but this can lead to the window flashing when it auto-scrolls. So I'm looking for another way to automatically scroll to the bottom. So far, my solution is to bypass the AppendText functions auto-scroll and implement my own, like this: def append_text(textctrl, text): before_number_of_lines = textctrl.GetNumberOfLines() textctrl.SetInsertionPointEnd() textctrl.WriteText(text) after_number_of_lines = textctrl.GetNumberOfLines() textctrl.ScrollLines(before_number_of_lines - after_number_of_lines + 1) Is there a better way?

• Good way to make Authentication and Authorization information available between application layers

  I have a web application running on Google App Engine (GAE) for JAVA. I'm authenticating the client at the Servlet layer but would like to make the client information available to my business and data layers without having to pass the client object through the arguments of every single function. I'm considering setting up a "session" type object using ThreadLocal. That way any function can just say something like: CurrentUser.getRoles(); Is this a good way to do this or is there something else that is a more accepted solution? Thanks!

• SQL Server 2005 Fail: Return Dates As Strings

  Hello all, I am using the SQL Server PHP Driver, I think this question can be answered without knowing what this is. I have come across this many times, what does it mean by NAMES? Column names?: SET NAMES utf8 Is there a query similar to the above that will get my dates to be returned as a string? For some reason on my SQL Sever 2008 on Vista, this works: $connectionInfo = array('Database' => $dbname, 'ReturnDatesAsStrings' => true) But the above 'ReturnDatesAsStrings' does not work on my SQL Server 2005 on a windows server machine? I can't execute any queries after setting the above! Does SQL Server 2005 support ReturnDatesAsStrings? Is there some other parameter I can pass to do the same? Thanks all for any help EDIT I should of mentioned this but if there is a solution I am hoping for one that is in the form of a setting that can be set before any queries can be executed as I do not have control on what queries will be executed.

My understanding is that simply having APC installed means that all PHP code is being cached. If that is untrue, please point me to the direction where I can configure WP to take advantage of APC.   I want to divide business layer (BLL) of an asp.net application into multiple components. Each component is a .NET class library which is compiled as a standalone DLL. These components should have their own configuration files. For example "MyNameSpace.Users.dll" contains classes about users of the website and there's a password policy to check if password length is at least x characters. When webmaster edits the config file of this DLL and set x to y then component (DLL) should use new value (y) in the future and enforce passwords to be at least y characters. I want each component as a single project and compile them separaely (and not to put all projects in a solution in Visual Studio), and put the DLLs of these libraries into the "Bin" folder of my ASP.NET application. Is it possible ? Where should I put these config files ?

• Typed Arrays in Gecko 2: Float32Array concatenation and expansion.

  Hi all, I'm a bit confused with Javascript Typed Arrays. What I have several *Float32Array*s, that have no concat method. I'd like to concatenate them all inside another Float32Array, but: as I said before, there is no concatenation method if I try to write past the array length, the array is not expanded (aka this won't work - please note that event.frameBuffer and buffer are both Float32Array and that I don't know what the final length of my buffer will be): var length_now = buffer.length; for (var i = 0; i < event.frameBuffer.length; i += 1) { buffer [length_now + i] = event.frameBuffer[i]; } The only solution I found is to copy the Float32Array in a regular array, that's definitely not what I want. How would you do, stackoverflowers?

• Speech recognition with Flash or Silverlight

  I'm developing a web user interface to enter some information that is not very complex but needs to be loaded in real time. I think that the application could make use of speech recognition to facilitate the task. Te core of the interface is being built with Javascript and jQuery, but can easily include a flash or silverlight component. I believe that´s probably the way to go... I don't need to recognize everything that the user says, but only a few prerecorded commands. Also, I don't want the user to click on a button to specify the begining and the end of the spoken command. It should be detected live. Is there anything that does this? I would be grateful if anyone tells me about a complete solution, free or commercial, as well as any advice on capturing a sound stream from the mic and process it with flash or sliverlight.   Greetings, I have some control which display bunch of textblocks and image. I would like the image to be surrounded by text. I have already implemented some functionality by using FlowDocument and custom bindable run control. (These controls are included inside user control). When I generate lots of these controls in treeview, application goes into infinite loop. I asked on forums before about this problem and the answer was that it can be WPF issue. Howver when I removed bindable run from my user control, problem dissappeared. Now I am trying to implement other solution where image will be surrounded by text. Can someone please help me? • Static Website - Converting to Dynamic, need to import information from database on different host

  This seems really complicated to ask about so I hope someone can help: We have a long time running static website held with a hosting company that provide PHP, Ruby-on-Rails and Drupal/Joomla support. A little limited I know but we got reasonably decent search engine rankings and didn't want them to drop. We have two much more recently created sites on another host written in Python/Django. The original site is now too big to handle statically and we want to create a more dynamic site in its place without changing servers/webhosts. The data we want to provide the 'new' dynamic site is from the same database providing the Django sites. What is the best solution to build the new site with? Is it better to create PHP pages that connect to the database on the other host? Ruby-on-rails seems like a very fast development environment not too dissimilar to Django, would we be able to fetch data from the existing databases into a rails site and use similar urls to our old static pages?

Some of these are websites like websnapshots, windows libraries such as PHP's imagegrabscreen (only works on windows), and KDE's wkhtml. Many more do exist. However, I'm looking for a GUI-less solution. Something I can create an API around and link it to php or python. I'm comfortable with python, php, C, and shell. This is a personal project, so I'm not interested in commercial applications as I'm aware of their existence. Any ideas?
