• NHibernate and MySql is inserting and Selecting, not updating

  Something strange is going on with NHibernate for me. I can select, and I can insert. But I can't do and update against MySql. • How to clone a model's attributes easily?

  I have these models: class Address < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :event attr_accessible :street, :city validates :street, :city, :presence => true end class Event < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :address accepts_nested_attributes_for :address end If I do the below assignment in the Events create action and save the event I get an error: #Use the current user's address for the event @event.address_attributes = current_user.address.attributes #Error occurs at the above mentioned line ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Address with ID=1 for Event with ID=) I think what's happening is that all the address's attributes (including the primary key) is getting assigned in the @event.address_attributes = line. But all I really want is the "real data" (street, city), not the primary keys or created_at etc to get copied over. I suppose I could write a small method to do this sort of selective copy but I can't help but feel there must be some built-in method for this? What's the best/right way to do this?

• Trying to understand the Zend_Auth OpenId

  I'm using a slightly modified version of the Zend_Auth_OpenId classes to get openid logins from google apps. The results are very positive, as I seem to be getting successful results from Google. I cannot get successful results passed to Zend_Auth, though. For example, Zend_Auth_Adapter_OpenId on line 241: if (!$consumer->login($id, $this->_returnTo, $this->_root, $this->_extensions, $this->_response)) { return new Zend_Auth_Result( Zend_Auth_Result::FAILURE, $id, array("Authentication failed", $consumer->getError())); } The consumer calls login() which in turn calls the private method _checkId() in Zend_OpenId_Consumer. _checkId() always ends in redirecting to the openid server. How is this ever supposed to return a valid Zend_Auth_Result object? I'm pretty close to giving up and trying to implement another OpenId library, but I'm so close to just making this work. I must be missing something so obvious! Maybe I don't understand how openid works exactly, but if someone could help me understand I would really appreciate it.

  I am trying to relate 2 items. I have a table that is simply an Id field, and then 2 columns for the Item Id's to relate. I want it to be a 2 way relationship - that is, if the items appear twice in the table, I only want one relationship connection back. EDIT: I think question was misunderstood. There is a drawable inside the Toggle Button (flame_icon) and it is set as background. I want it to be centered. There is no Text, just an image. I need a Toggle Button because I need to have an Active State when selected. There is only drawableLeft, drawableRight, drawableTop, etc. I want a draweableMiddle that doesn't seem to exisit.

• Reset JPA generated value between tests

  I'm running spring + hibernate + JUnit with springJunit4runner and transactional set to default rollback I'm using in-memory derbydb as Database. Hibernate is used as a JPA Provider and I am successfully testing CRUD kinds of stuff. However, I have a problem with JPA and the behaviour of @GeneratedValue If I run one of my tests in isolation, two entitys are persisted with id 1 and 2. If i run the whole test suite the ids are instead 6 and 7. Spring does rollbacks just fine so there are only these two entitys in the database after addition and of course zero before. But behaviour of @GeneratedValue doesn't allow me to reliable findById unless I would return the Id from the dao.add(Entity e) //method I don't feel like doing that for the sake of testing, or is it a good practise to return the entity that was persisted so I should be doing it anyway?

• Uniquely identifying mobile devices over a network for webforms

  I'm designing a system for mobile devices that can be assigned only to one job at a time. So I need to be able to know which mobile device is being used by accessing it's own unique static IP address or its device ID. I don't want to assign an ID myself for every machine that comes in which is why a static IP would work great. However, in trying to retrieve the client ip address I'm retrieving the wireless router's ip or some other ip which is not the mobile device's ip. I want to store that ip in a table and control which jobs are assigned to it. How can I accomplish this? I've tried the following but I'm getting the wireless ip: var hostEntry = Dns.GetHostEntry(Dns.GetHostName()); var ip = ( from addr in hostEntry.AddressList where addr.AddressFamily.ToString() == "InterNetwork" select addr.ToString() ).FirstOrDefault(); I'd rather not set a cookie if there exists a better alternative.   Concept: Lets say we have table Properties with columns id and name (lets say with some predefined values: "Good" "Better" "Best"). Another table Users has column property_id with many to one relation on Properties (property_id = id). Users has default value on property_id, lets say 1 which means "Good". We might have another table analogue to Users however with default property, lets say "Better". What I need is ability to change default value for Users or other tables in administrator's panel. In mysql I can set default value for column like this: ALTER TABLE <Table> CHANGE <Column> DEFAULT <NEW_DEFAULT_VALUE> I can retrieve default value: SELECT DEFAULT(<Column>) FROM <Table> LIMIT 1 Is it possible to achieve this concept with Doctrine? • PHP: Display comma after each element except the last. Using 'for' statement and no 'implode/explode

  hi, so I have this simple for loop to echo an array: for ($i = 0; $i < count($director); $i++) { echo '<a href="person.php?id='.$director[$i]["id"].'">'.$director[$i]["name"].'</a>'; } The problem here is that when more than one element is in the array then I get everything echoed without any space between. I want to separate each element with a comma except the last one. I cant use 'implode' so I'm looking for another solution... Anyone?

  I am trying to write a PHP-MySQL database processor that is somewhat intelligent. When this processor decides it needs to make an update, I want to report if it was really successful or not. I thought I could use mysql_affected_rows... // Example: // After running query "UPDATE mytable SET name='Test' WHERE ID=1" $result = mysql_affected_rows(); if ($result >= 1) { /* Success */ } If, for example, there was no row with ID=1, then $result would be 0. However, it turns out that PHP's mysql_affected_rows is the actual affected rows, and may be still be 0 if the row exists but name was already "Test". (The PHP docs even say this is the case). If I run this in the command line, I get the following meta information about the query: Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec) Rows matched: 1 Changed: 0 Warnings: 0 Is there any way for me to get that "Rows matched" value in PHP instead of the affected rows?

• select subquery cause mysql server to be unresponsive

  DELETE FROM item_measurement WHERE measurement_id IN ( SELECT (-id) AS measurement_id FROM invoice_item WHERE invoice_id = 'A3722' ) I've really tried hard to find what's wrong with the code. I tried to run this in a php page, which doesn't respond. I also tried the same line in phpmyadmin, infinite spinning circle and I had to restart the server(MAMP on Mac 10.9). No error was given in browser/ If I run the delete and select separately, they both finish very quickly. I don't think it's a performance issue because the separate run took < 0.1 sec each. Thanks for any help in advance. Edit: I also found that a simple select statement will also suspend mysql: select * from item_measurement where measurement_id in (select -id from invoice_item where invoice_id='A3722')

  Hi I am trying to get a better understanding of relational databases and there is something that I keep bumping into and don't understand.Let's take this two tables: In this case Login.ID is the primary key with auto_increment set and Profile.ID_LOGIN is the Foreign KEY.When a user is created and it's username and password is stored in the login database does the ID coresponding to the curesnt username and password get automaticly added into ID_LOGIN or do I have to create an SQL statement to do this? If I have to create a SQL statement how should I aproach adding the ID_LOGIN to make sure I am adding it corectly?

• Google Cloud Messaging

  I downloaded the GCM project from git and i was able to start the server (app engine for java) and also compile the client apk on the device. On startup the device successfully registers with the server and I can see the registration id when i go to http://myserverip:8080/_ah/admin/. The problem is when i hit the 'Send Message' button there is a message 'Single message queued for registration id ' and it doesn't do anything. Below is a screenshot of the error i noticed on the terminal. Am i missing something. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. .

• Storing Values in colunms alphabetic?

  Is there any benefit to storing content alphabetic in columns? Maybe make lookups faster? If yes then when i add new lookup values to my tables do i need to rebuild the PK for the looup values to fit in the new text? Say a table like this: City_tbl city_id: example: 1120 City_name: example: New York. If I need to add Chicago to it, do i add it at the bottom of the list with the next ID which may be 2000 or do i inset it after the city in alphabetic order which would mean I need to update the PK Id of all following IDs by 1. Only benefit I know about is when I have to manually add lookup values without quering the database I can quickly check the lookup value list for exiting items with ease. But not sure if it may make lookups faster or something if the system knows the text is in aplhabetic order.
