• Python and App Engine project structure

  Hello, I am relatively new to python and app engine, and I just finished my first project. It consists of several *.py files (usually py file for every page on the site) and respectively temple files for each py file. In addition, I have one big PY file that has many functions that are common to a lot of pages, in I also declared the classes of db.Model (that is the datastore kinds). My question is what is the convention (if there is one) of arranging these files. If I create a model.py with the datastore classes, should it be in different package? Where should I put my template files and all of the py files that handle every page (should they be in the same directory as the one big common PY file)? I have tried to look for MVC and such implementations online but there are very few. Thanks, Joel

  i have the video gallery in my database, which has over 200 000 videos. in my home page in the site i show exactly some videos, which must satisfy to some criteria. and so, what is the question. is it a good way to sort videos every time the home page opene, or i must save the sort results somewhere in the database, and refresh them only if something change. i think it can save me a lot of time. what you think about it. thanks in advance.

• Drupal: How can one use Context to trigger a reaction for a Taxonomy Term condition caused by a Vie

  What I would like to do is use the Context module to insert $body_classes of my choosing based on a Taxonomy Term condition. Fine, that's what the Context module is for. Seems simple enough IF your content/page source is a node that is involved with the appropriate Terms. However, I have a page generated by Views that has the appropriate Taxonomy Term id that SHOULD trigger the condition but it doesn't. Now I could set my $body_classes in a "preprocess" in template.php but I'd rather avoid that. Is this even possible in Context? Or am I just doing something wrong?

• How to change id value when using Html.DropDownListFor helper in asp.net mvc 2.0?

  Hi I have a partial view that has something like this <%= Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.SelectedProductName, Model.ProductList, "Select a Product") %> Now you can create a new product and edit a existing product. Both editing and creating use the same form. The create is on the main page on load up. Edit popus up in a jquery u.i model dialog and renders a new partial view. So as far as the page is concerned is that I have 2 dropdown boxes with the same "id" which is bad since they should be unique. So how do I change the id? So when the edit loads it might have a id of "editSelectedProductName"? I tried to do this in the view model public string SelectedProductName{ get; set; } ViewModelConstructor() { SelectedProductName = "EditSelectedProductName"; } But it seems to not care and keeps using "SelectedProductName" as the product name. • jQuery-Facebox - Popup is not working after repaint from AJAX

  Hi I am having a set of Links in my page and I have attached the facebox jQuery functionality so that whenever a link is pressed, it will get a nice popup <a href="coach_selector_popup?day=<%= day %>&hour=<%= hour %>" rel="facebox"> Below is the script that I use for 'facebox'ing. <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function($) { jQuery('a[rel*=facebox]').facebox() }) </script> The above is working fine. But when I render it again on response to some AJAX call, the functionality is getting lost, meaning when I click on the link I am redirected to a page instead of a facebox popup. I know that I need to do something when I repaint, can someone point me to the right direction?

• Modifying listbox values with jQuery in WebForm not posting back

  When hitting a button, an error would occur: System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. --- System.ArgumentException: Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. I then added EnableEventValidation="false" into my @Page directive, which fixed the error. Now after manipulating the listbox, the new values in the listbox are not posted back to the server. How can I solve this?

Apparantly it's very similar to the session id, but I've never seen it before. EDIT: It is sent in IE but not in FF.

  I have multiple custom controls used on a ASPX (and C#) page registered from within the page rather than in Web.Config. On the first build (or rebuild), build fails with error messages for wherever I've used the custom controls. Subsequent builds are successful. The error message: Unknown server tag 'prefix:ExampleControl'. What might cause this, and how can I fix it?   Hello all I am trying to include css sprites in my webapp. The thing is I have arranged my website background vertically in sprite image. Now, one portion of the sprite needs to be repeated vertically. • Why "alt" attribute for <img> tag has been considered mandatory by the HTML validator .. ?

  Is there any logical or technical reason (with the W3C validation) for making alt as required attribute .. This is my actual problem:though my page is perfect enough with respect to W3C validation rules .. Only error I am getting is line XX column YY - Error: required attribute "ALT" not specified I know the significance of "alt" attribute and I have omitted that where it is unnecessary .. (to be more elaborate .. I have added the image to increase the beauty of my page and I don't want alt attribute to show irrelevant message to the viewer) getting rid of the error is secondary .. rather I am curious to know whether is it a flaw with validation rules .. ?? • What is the easiest way to get an embedded upload progress bar using Ruby/Sinatra/Haml/Passenger/ngi

  I have a website where people can upload 30+mb of data in a single block, and I want to be able to show them the progress of their upload without causing the web page to become unresponsive, similar to how flash uploads work in gmail. There's this question here, but I don't know if that progress bar is embedded in the page or if it's using the browser's progress bar. I'm also a bit of a web newb, so I'm not sure if it's the 'easiest'. I asked the swfupload guys how to do this here, and the answer I got is 'this tool requires some knowledge to use it' without giving me much help in figuring out where to get started. I also asked this question on ServerFault, and got no response, so maybe that was the wrong place to ask. I'm all for learning new things and so forth, but there are a lot of potential pathways to take here. Where should I start, and what do I need to know to make everything work with sinatra, haml, ruby, passenger, and nginx? Thanks!

  i have small problem.... i have one content type say cars with various fields, say more than 30 , user can create the content types... now i would like to show only few fields in different phases,is there any possibility to do that. more explantaion:- user may enter the car model and car details in the first page and upload images in second page.(say a popup in the block) is this is possible ? i m newbie to drupal, i would like to do this kind of data updation, i though with designing a one more content type with the existing fields, can any one explain this issue... what if i design a content type car1 with same fields say(file uplaod) in car content type.

• Architecture of an image hosting site

  I'm sure many here are aware of image hosting sites, like imgur, min.us, photobucket etc. Not that I want to develop one, but besides just uploading the file, organising it in some directory somewhere, what architectural considerations are involved in these sites? Especially when there's millions of page views a day (like imgur, I'd imagine) I'm curious about this because it seems that a lot of sites (say, dating websites etc) would be pretty image intensive. Even if it's not for millions of page views, what are some basic architectural requirements of efficient image deliveries online?

• When creating a dialog with jquery, how do I hide the dialog div?

  I am creating a dialog like in this page: http://jqueryui.com/demos/dialog/#modal-confirmation (click view source) on the bottom is the div that gets placed in the dialog. The dialog works perfect when called by the javascript but the dialog is apparent at the bottom of the page when it loads. (minus all the styling that gets applied when it is called by the javascript function) How can I hide the div and still allow the dialog to use it? I have tried setting style="visibility:hidden" but that prevents it from being shown when called by the javascript.

  I am using JQuery Date picker, but it is too much heavy, the minified version of ui.datepicker.min.js is of 44 KB. the images of datepicker have their own weigh. the jquery framework is of 59 KB. and total images on page are of around 80 KB the total html of page is around 70 KB and the css file size is around 72 KB. and much more, and all the things go upto 600 KB. which is 0.6 MB. do you think user will wait for 600 KB to be downloaded in the browser? it may take upto 8 - 10 secs. and I dont think that user will wait for such long time. I want to keep my website light weight. is there any light weight javascript date picker.

  Hi, I am storing images in SQL Server 2000 database (BLOB type). There is a web page in my ASP.NET application which need to show a lot images to the end user and i want to handle browser's requests for images through a IHttpAsyncHandler. I found a similer post on codeproject "Asynchronous HTTP Handler for Asynchronous BLOB DataReader." But for some reasons, page get freeze upon completion of "BeginProcessRequest" method and "EndProcessRequest" method never get call. Can anyone look at this post and let me know whats wrong in that post? OR what i need to do to complete this task (BLOB Reading via IHttpAsyncHandler)?

• making apache and django add a trailing slash

  Hello. My /train directory is aliased to a script in httpd.conf by: WSGIScriptAlias /train /some-path/../django.wsgi And it works well, except for one problem. If a user goes to /train (with no trailing slash) it will not redirect him to /train/, but will just give him the right page. This is a problem because this way the relative links on this page lead to the wrong place when no trailing slash was used to access it. How can this be worked out? Thanks.

  I could not find a Stack Overflow notifier Android app so I am planning on making one. I hope that my app will serve a similar purpose as the Stack Overflow Notifier Chrome extension. This will be my first Android app so I am still unfamiliar with the platform. My main concern when creating this app is, what is the proper way to access the user's Recent Activity page? I thought of two different approaches but I'm not sure how to implement either one: Make the user login to Stack Overflow through the Browser application or an embedded browser and scrape their recent activity page occasionally for updates. Ask the user for their username and password and forward this information to Stack Overflow for authentication, storing cookies somehow to keep the session active. I think Astrid uses something similar to the first approach, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet from skimming their code. What is the correct way to handle a notification application like this that requires session management?

  I have created a simple blog application using Ruby on Rails, both of which I am new to. I am trying to get my most 'voted' posts to display in my /views/posts/index.html.erb view. Here are the basics. I have created a votes table and successfully allow a user to 'vote' for a post on the /views/posts/show.html.erb page. When they vote, it passes '1' to the votes table and I return the vote count via ajax to the same show page. Vote belongs_to :post and Post has_many :votes. I would like to display in /views/posts/index.html.erb the post title and the amount of times it has been voted for, ordered by posts with the highest vote count. Any ideas on how to do this?

• Thin, Sinatra, and intercepting static file request to do CAS authentication

  I'm using the casrack-the-authenticator gem for CAS authentication. My server is running Thin on top of Sinatra. I've gotten the CAS authentication bit working, but I'm not sure how to tell Rack to intercept "/index.html" requests to confirm the CAS login, and if the user is not allowed to view the page, return a HTTP 403 response instead of serving the actual page.   Consider a link to a page for a user's profile. A page is creating that URL like this: //Model.Name has value "<bad guy>" Html.ActionLink("foo, "ViewUser", new { id=5, title=Url.Encode(Model.Name) }) The actual outcome was http://mysite/Users/5/%253cbad%2guy%253e When navigating to that URL, the server generates a HTTP Error 400 - Bad Request. Question: Given that the Model.Name may contain Unicode characters, or characters otherwise illegal in URLs, what's the best way to strip out illegal characters, or otherwise encode them? The problem surfaces when testing out 'interesting' user inputs with < and >, but anything could come from the user, and therefore be put in a URL by way of Model.Name.

• How to secure access to SWF file using ASP.NET?

  hi guys, We have a swf file that we want to secure and make available only to authorized users. I embedded the file in an aspx page and that works fine, since ASP.NET handles the aspx page, I can use ASP.NET authorization features and in the web.config restrict the access to roles="AllowedUsers" for example. However smart users could still get to the file by accessing directly for example www.mysite/flash.swf. We want to make that kind of access secure. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
