  • Passenger not booting Rails App

    - by firecall
I'm at the end of ability, so time to ask for help. My hosting company are moving me to a new server. I've got my own VPS. It's a fresh CentOS 5 install with Plesk 9.5.2 Essentially Passenger just doesnt seem to be booting the Rails app. It's like it doesnt see it's a Rails app to be booted. I've got Rails 3.0 install with Ruby 1.9.2 built from source. I can run Bundle Install and that works. I've currently got Passenger 3 RC1 installed as per here, but have tried v2 as well. My conf/vhost.conf file looks like this: DocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/foosite.com.au/httpdocs/public/ RackEnv development #Options Indexes I've got a /etc/httpd/conf.d/passenger.conf file which looks like this: LoadModule passenger_module /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-3.0.0.pre4/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-3.0.0.pre4 PassengerRuby /usr/local/bin/ruby PassengerLogLevel 2 and all I get is a 403 forbidden or the directory listing if I enable Indexes. I dont know what else to do! Yikes. There's nothing in the Apache error log that I can see. The new server admin isnt much help as I think he's a bit junior and says he doesnt know about Rails... sigh :/ I'm a programmer and server admin isnt my bag :(

  • Is something infecting my Google searches?

    - by hippietrail
I starting doing some experimentation toward making a browser userscript for Google searches and when opening the JavaScript console noticed something that strikes me as very fishy: The page at https://www.google.com.au/search?oq=XYZ&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=XYZ displayed insecure content from http://50.116.62.47/js/chromeServerV45.js. The page at about:blank displayed insecure content from http://96.126.107.154/amz/google.php?callback=a&q=XYZ&country=US. (XYZ is a placeholder for whatever the search terms really was.) Is it likely that I've picked something like a drive-by browser infection? I've tried all kinds of searches for these URLs and other keywords but I've had no luck finding anything conclusive about whether they're malicious or what they are: 50.116.62.47 chromeServerV45.js 96.126.107.154 amz/google.php The only extensions I have installed are either widely used or written by myself. But something else is strange and I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence. I updated my Windows Chrome browser today to version 23.0.1271.64 m and now my Extensions tab as well as my settings tab are blank, so I can't try disabling my extesions. Here's some discussion I've been able to find so far but not really understand and make sense of: for 96.126.107.154 : "anomalous-javascript-pt2"

  • VPN Error 691 but server says authenticated on server

    - by Andy
Hello all, I have a problem with a vpn connection on Windows XP SP3 that appears to be related to an account (maybe privilleges or an option that I have missed). When connecting using my account, which is a domain administrator account it will connect to through the vpn fine. However, using an account created for another person they receive Error 691: Username or Password is not valid for this domain. On the domain controller (windows 2003) I see a logon successful message: User DOMAIN\user was granted access. Fully-Qualified-User-Name = int.company.net.au/People/Management/User NAS-IP-Address = 10.30.0.3 NAS-Identifier = not present Client-Friendly-Name = MelbourneCore Client-IP-Address = Router-ip Calling-Station-Identifier = not present NAS-Port-Type = Virtual NAS-Port = 77 Proxy-Policy-Name = Use Windows authentication for all users Authentication-Provider = Windows Authentication-Server = undetermined Policy-Name = Remote VPN Access Authentication-Type = MS-CHAPv1 EAP-Type = Does anyone have any ideas as to where else I should look for finding a solution? If i use the wrong password it gives a logon failure error in the event viewer. Also removing them from the remote access group gives a logon failure error. Nothing appears in the event viewer on the local machine. In the past all that is required is to add them into our Remote Access Users group. Any help?

  • Advance DNS - Redirecting Emails to new webhost

    - by Martin
I am not to sure if this question belongs here but I will surely find out soon enough. I have two web hosts (Not sure why it has been setup this way but it has). I do not want to use the original web host to handle the emails as the Data that we get from them is 500 mb which is already full with hosting the website. The second web host has an unlimited data plan and was created so we could use this host for the email accounts. Now the problem is I have reset the Advance DNS Zone records on both accounts and I am not sure what they were before. (Silly me should have taken a backup of how it was setup before hand I know) Emails were working before and going to the second hosts server now they are going to the first host but it has no email addresses setup for use so all emails are bouncing saying that the address does not exist. Host 1 IP: 192.185.96.110 Host 2 IP: 27.54.88.66 So far I have changed the Advanced DNS Zone record on Host 1 with the following: A Record: mail.australisinstitute.qld.edu.au - 27.54.88.66 I have not made any changes on Host 2 and both hosts have the default MX Records. If I need to provide any more information I can but I just hope someone can decipher what I have said haha. Cheers in advance!

  • Can't connect to research.microsoft.com on home Qwest DSL connection

    - by rakingleaves
I have a puzzling issue regarding accessing research.microsoft.com from my home Qwest DSL connection. By default, I frequently get timeouts when accessing research.microsoft.com from Firefox, Safari, or Chrome on my Mac. I also cannot access the site from Internet Explorer in a Windows VM. However, I am able to access the site through proxify.com, so I know the site is not down. Furthermore, I haven't noticed problems accessing other sites (in particular, www.microsoft.com works fine). Also, I can access research.microsoft.com when I'm connected to networks other than my home Qwest DSL connection. Together, the above make me suspect a problem with either my router (Airport Express) or, more likely, my ISP. Anyone have any thoughts on how I can narrow down the problem further? I could call my ISP and tell them the above, but my feeling is that probably won't get me very far. I can get by browsing research.microsoft.com through a proxy, but it would be nice to figure out what's going on here and fix the problem. Oh, the only relevant discussion I found via Google was here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1311734.html Update: Thanks to those who have tried to help! I found one other thing while Googling that may be vaguely relevant: http://thedaneshproject.com/posts/supportmicrosoftcom-not-working-behind-squid/ Disabling the Accept-Encoding headers in Firefox actually didn't make a difference for me. I just thought the above might spark some other ideas about how mishandling of HTTP headers somewhere might be causing this problem. Thanks again! Another update: In case anyone is still thinking about this; I've found that I can't surf research.microsoft.com using the links text-based browser, but I can reliably download individual files with wget. Maybe that helps?

  • Macbook Pro - 15" with i7 processor - Any problems with heat?

    - by webworm
You may have already heard about the review done by the folks at PC Authority in Australia, where they had an i7 MacBook Pro that got up to 100 degrees Celsius during benchmarking. Here is the URL in case you have not read it. http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/172791,macbook-pro-helps-core-i7-hit-100-degrees.aspx In any case, I was considering purchasing a 15" Macbook Pro with the i7 processor and the NVIDIA GeForce GT330M with 512 video memory. Having read how hot the computer got I started to become hesitant about purchasing. My main concern is long term damage to the computer due to excessive heat. I plan to use the MacBook Pro as a development machine where I will be running Windows 7 within VMWare Fusion or Virtual Box. Within the VM I will be running IIS, SQL Server, Visual Studio and SharePoint Server. Hence why I would like to have the power of the i7 processor. That is why I wanted to check with actually owners of the MacBooks with the i7 processor and see what their experiences have been. Have you noticed excessive heat? How does your Macbook handle process intensive apps over long periods of time? Thank you!

  • Performance monitoring on Linux/Unix

    - by ervingsb
I run a few Windows servers and (Debian and Ubuntu) Linux and AIX servers. I would like to continously monitor performance on these systems in order to easily identify bottlenecks as well as to have an overview of the general activity on the servers. On Windows, I use Windows Performance Monitor (perfmon) for this. I set up these counters: For bottlenecks: Processor utilization : System\Processor Queue Length Memory utilization : Memory\Pages Input/Sec Disk Utilization : PhysicalDisk\Current Disk Queue Length\driveletter Network problems: Network Interface\Output Queue Length\nic name For general activity: Processor utilization : Processor\% Processor Time_Total Memory utilization : Process\Working Set_Total (or per specific process) Memory utilization : Memory\Available MBytes Disk Utilization : PhysicalDisk\Bytes/sec_Total (or per process) Network Utilization : Network Interface\Bytes Total/Sec\nic name (More information on the choice of these counters on: http://itcookbook.net/blog/windows-perfmon-top-ten-counters ) This works really well. It allows me to look in one place and identify most common bottlenecks. So my question is, how can I do something equivalent (or just very similar) on Linux servers? I have looked a bit on nmon (http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/aix/library/au-analyze_aix/) which is a free performance monitoring tool developed for AIX but also availble for Linux. However, I am not sure if nmon allows me to set up the above counters. Maybe it is because Linux and AIX does not allow monitoring these exact same measures. Is so, which ones should I choose and why? If nmon is not the tool to use for this, then what do you recommend?

  • postfix and iRedMail- Relaying Denied

    - by Lock
I am trying to setup iRedMail and am way over my head here. I have installed it, and can send emails internally, but not externally. When I send an email from outside, I get the following return email: The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.7.1 <[email protected]>... Relaying denied (state 13). Now I have no idea where to start looking! Any ideas? I have really only just installed iRedMail so I am unsure what else I need to do to get it working. I've pointed my MX records to that server, so that shouldnt be the problem. Also- if i stop postfix (so nothing is listening on port 25) and send a test email, I get the same reply back. Why would I get the same reply back even if postfix is stopped? I have run tcpdump over 25 and can see the packets coming in/out, so its definitely a configuration issue! I suppose my question is not really "what is my problem", but more "What configuration needs to be completed on postfix and iRedMail?"

  • ports only available from the outside network

    - by ChrisJ
This is a counter-intuitive problem for me. I have a new Win 2003 server on a static IP address w.x.y.z. Tomcat 7, PostgreSQL 9.1, and Subversion are installed. All of it appears to be working fine from the server itself. We can also access the Tomcat manager, web applications, and run "svn ls svn://w.x.y.z/" from outside our network. However, when I try from another machine in the office, phpPgAdmin and svn cannot establish connections with the server. http://w.x.y.z:5432/phppgadmin cannot connect. The svn command from above returns: svn: E730061: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn://w.x.y.z/' svn: E730061: Can't connect to host 'w.x.y.z': No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Tomcat manager and the other web apps we have deployed work fine. Netstat -a from the server shows this: Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP SERVERNAME:3690 SERVERNAME:0 LISTENING TCP SERVERNAME:5432 SERVERNAME:0 LISTENING Windows Firewall was off, but just in case I also tried to enable it and open ports 3690 (svn) and 5432 (postgres). No change. I don't have access to the router/switch because it just doesn't work that way in Port-au-Prince and our sysadmin is on R&R. Is there anything that might be causing the problem from the server side?

  • Is there any way for ME to improve routing to an overseas server? [migrated]

Since I think it will be unlikely that my ISP will do anything, are there any ways to improve my routing to the server without them having to intervene? NB. The game runs predominately over UDP, so I believe most low ping services are out of the question, as they rely on TCP traffic.

  • College network - can I point non-domain student computers to our SUS server?

    - by Joel Coel
Since I started here 3 months ago, one of the things that's really bothered me about the way this network is setup is something that shows up on the daily bandwidth consumption report. I get a list of top-visited sites by hits and by size, and invariably the top site (to the point that it's bigger than all the other top sites combined) is au.download.windowsupdate.com. We're pulling in ~30GB/day in windows updates. This is every day, not just after a patch Tuesday. After a patch day, it jumps closer to 40GB for a couple days. The key here is that almost none if it is by machines that I'm responsible for. My machines are for the most part fully patched, and when they're not they'll pull from a SUS server, so new updates are downloaded only once. It used to be closer to 50GB/day because most of the machines in our computer labs use DeepFreeze and weren't applying updates correctly, but that's fixed now. So the problem is definitely student-owned machines in the dorms, some of which are re-downloading the same updates in background each day, over and over. I'd love to have these machines start pulling from our SUS server. Then, if they don't ever actually install them at least they're not leeching bandwidth from our public internet connection. Any ideas on how to resolve the situation?

  • Upstart Script on Centos 6

    - by MarcusMaximus
I'm trying to create an upstart script to run a python script on startup. In theory it looks simple enough but I just can't seem to get it to work. • Is there a command to change primary group for a new user in Cygwin?

    - by Rob Gilliam
Is there a way to set a (new) user's primary group in Cygwin's /etc/passwd file without hand-editing the file? I have a local group set up for members of the Dev Team on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box so that we can all modify a particular group files, but the regular users can only read them. As some of the work we do uses scripts that rely on Cygwin tools, this group is also in the /etc/group file. When I need to add a new user to the "Dev Team" group, I add them in Server Manager, and then use mkpasswd to add that user to Cygwin's /etc/passwd file. Unfortunately, they get the regular Domain Users group assigned as their primary group and I then have to go in and edit the passwd file to change the group. I now need to write some instructions for someone else who is not au fait with UNIX/Linux/Cygwin so that they can set up new Dev Team users and obviously "hand editing" /etc/passwd is a recipe for disaster if you don't know what you're doing. So, is there a way of getting mkpasswd to set a different primary group, or another tool like Linux's usermod which can be used for the purpose of changing the group in a more controlled manner?

  • REMOTE_USER not getting set?

    - by landed
I am trying to setup LDAP Authentication in Joomla using a plugin called JMapMyLDAP (in fact 4 plugins each doing a different job). I need to pull a part of a string out of the server variable REMOTE_USER and this should be visible (we see here http://timplummer.com.au/4-how-to-integrate-joomla-3-with-active-directory-using-ldap.html) in phpinfo(); The issue is that REMOTE_USER is not set or at least not appearing. A few things to note (if you don't mind) here- conceptually I am not really understanding authentication as a whole subject it appears to be vast despite my years working in websites. Yes I used asp and built php pages to check a user is who they say they are with a token(/session?) that was given to just them and then they are identified when a stateless request is made to the server. Thats my level of understanding. This sounds different to the basic authentication in apache where a password sits in a file and a username and the user needs to login to a basic form to get access to the folder/docs this is via an .htaccess file. Ok so with the LDAP to work I need to get REMOTE_USER this sounds very reasonable as how else do we know is making the request. Thank you.

  • WSUS registry file: NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers entry being ignored

    - by the_pete
We are using a registry entry to connect our internal workstations to our WSUS server and everything seems to be working except the NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers entry. Without fail, over the last few weeks, our lab setup as well as our users have been prompted to restart their machines with a 15 minute time out and there's nothing they can do about it. They can't postpone or cancel the restart, all options in the prompt are greyed out. Below is the registry file we are using to connect our workstations to our WSUS server: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate] "AcceptTrustedPublisherCerts"=dword:00000001 "ElevateNonAdmins"=dword:00000000 "WUServer"="http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8530" "WUStatusServer"="http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8530" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU] "AUOptions"=dword:00000004 "AutoInstallMinorUpdates"=dword:00000001 "DetectionFrequencyEnabled"=dword:00000001 "DetectionFrequency"=dword:00000002 "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000 "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001 "RebootRelaunchTimeout"=dword:00000030 "RebootRelaunchTimeoutEnabled"=dword:00000001 "RescheduleWaitTime"=dword:00000020 "RescheduleWaitTimeEnabled"=dword:00000001 "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000 "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003 "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001 There is a bit of redundancy, if you want to call it that, having both the NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers entry as well as the entries for RebootRelaunchTimeout but we wanted to see if we could either disable the restart, or give our users a larger window within which they could wrap up their work, etc. before restarting. Neither of these entries seems to work, but our priority is getting NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers working and any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Making a Job Change That's Easy Why Not Try a Career Change

    - by david.talamelli
A few nights ago I received a comment on one of our blog posts that reminded me of a statistic that I heard a while back. The statistic reflected the change in our views towards work and showed how while people in past generations would stay in one role for their working career - now with so much choice people not only change jobs often but also change careers 4-5 times in their working life. To differentiate between a job change and a career change: when I say job change this could be an IT Sales person moving from one IT Sales role to another IT Sales role. A Career change for example would be that same IT Sales person moving from IT Sales to something outside the scope of their industry - maybe to something like an Engineer or Scuba Dive Instructor. The reason for Career changes can be as varied as the people who make them. Someone's motivation could be to pursue a passion or maybe there is a change in their personal circumstances forcing the change or it could be any other number of reasons. I think it takes courage to make a Career change - it can be easy to stay in your comfort zone and do what you know, but to really push yourself sometimes you need to try something new, it is a matter of making that career transition as smooth as possible for yourself. The comment that was posted is here below (thanks Dean for the kind words they are appreciated). Hi David, I just wanted to let you know that I work for a company called Milestone Search in Melbourne, Victoria Australia. (www.mstone.com.au) We subscribe to your feed on a daily basis and find your blogs both interesting and insightful. Not to mention extremely entertaining. I wonder if you have missed out on getting in journalism as this seems to be something you'd be great at ?: ) Anyways back to my point about changing careers. This could be anything from going from I.T. to Journalism, Engineering to Teaching or any combination of career you can think of. I don't think there ever has been a time where we have had so many opportunities to do so many different things in our working life. While this idea sounds great in theory, putting it into practice would be much harder to do I think. First, in an increasingly competitive job market, employers tend to look for specialists in their field. You may want to make a change but your options may be limited by the number of employers willing to take a chance on someone new to an industry that will likely require a significant investment in time to get brought up to speed. Also, using myself as an example if I was given the opportunity to move into Journalism/Communication/Marketing career from my career as an IT Recruiter - realistically I would have to take a significant pay cut to make this change as my current salary reflects the expertise I have in my current career. I would not immediately be up to speed moving into a new career and would not be able to justify a similar salary. Yes there are transferable skills in any career change, but even though you may have transferable skills you must realise that you will also have a large amount of learning to do which would take time. These are two initial hurdles that I immediately think of, there may be more but nothing is insurmountable. If you work out what you want to do with your working career whatever that may be, you then need to just need to work out the steps to get to your end goal. This is where utilising the power of your networks and using Social Media can come in handy. If you are interested in working somewhere why not proactively take the opportunity to research the industry or company - find out who it is you need to speak to and get in touch with them. We spend so much time working, we should enjoy the work we do and not be afraid to try new things. Waiting for your dream job to fall into your lap or be handed to you on a silver platter is not likely going to happen, so if there is something you do want to do, work out a plan to make it happen and chase after it. • Nested table height in TCPDF

    - by Kuroki Kaze
    Is it possible to make nested table fit height of its parent cell in TCPDF? My code: <?php require_once('tcpdf/config/lang/eng.php'); require_once('tcpdf/tcpdf.php'); $pdf = new TCPDF(PDF_PAGE_ORIENTATION, PDF_UNIT, PDF_PAGE_FORMAT, true, 'UTF-8', false); $pdf->setPrintHeader(false); $pdf->setPrintFooter(false); $pdf->SetFont('times', 'BI', 8); $pdf->AddPage(); $pdf->writeHTML('<table> <tr><td bgcolor="gray"> Angoisse et vif espoir, sans humeur factieuse.<br/> Plus allait se vidant le fatal sablier,<br/> Plus ma torture était âpre et délicieuse;<br/> Tout mon coeur s’arrachait au monde familier</td> <td bgcolor="lightgray">Second</td> <td bgcolor="gray">Third</td> <td> <table style="height: 100%"> <tr bgcolor="blue" style="height: 30%"><td bgcolor="yellow" style="height: 30%">Ichi</td></tr> <tr bgcolor="white" style="height: 30%"><td bgcolor="cyan" style="height: 30%">Ni</td></tr> <tr bgcolor="blue" style="height: 30%"><td bgcolor="yellow" style="height: 30%">San</td></tr> </table> </td></tr> </table>'); $pdf->Output('example_002.pdf', 'I'); ?> I want table in last cell to fill it entirely. Is there any way to do this?
