• D-Link DWA-125 constantly disconnecting in winXP, but works fine on ubuntu..

  Hey there, I'm dual booting winXp and ubuntu 10.10. I'm using a DWA-125 usb adapter to connect to my home wifi connection and I'm having this odd issue. First off, in ubuntu the adapter works fine and I have no trouble at all, but when I boot back in XP I get a dlink connetion wizard and the connection times out after every 2 minutes. It's odd because I can actually load up web pages and use the internet for 2 minutes, and then it would disconnect and the whole thing would repeat. I did a system restore on xp and this stopped the whole connect-disconnect thing but once I booted into ubuntu and came back to xp it started all over again!(?). Any ideas as to how I would go about fixing this?

• Can't connect Alienware M11x wireless to internet thru families router

  Morning All, Have an Alienware M11x loaded with Win 7 Premium with the Dell half card wifi. Also have a Netgear and Belkin USB external adapters (b/g and N to include dual radios. No joy either. Families Internet is served thru Charter and they use a Motorola Router. No matter if we reset the router, I cannot connect to the Net but can talk to the router. BTW... my brother only uses WEP as a number of connected items are old and my folks are not in a high threat area for attacks. Frustrated, as I know what I'm doing but this really has me stumped. Any thoughts? Much appreciated, Jim

• Cannot delete podcast from iPod Touch

  I am having a problem with my iPod/iTunes where an episode of a single podcast cannot be deleted. The episode in question does not show up in iTunes or as being on the iPod when I drill down and look at the podcasts on the iPod in iTunes. It also does not play if I try to play it on the iPod; it just waits a second and skips to the next podcast. I have iTunes 9.2.0.61, my iPod has OS version 4 (although I was having this problem before I upgraded), and Windows 7 64bit. I would really prefer a solution that does not require me to completely wipe the iPod because I have a bunch of WiFi keys stored that I don't want to have to dig up again.

• Facebook doesn't work on computer, but work on mobile device, both use the same router

  I have a very strange problem and I'm thinking that can be problem with dns or something similar, but not sure and don't know how to solve. My computer is connected to router and every site works fine except facebook (Chrome and Firefox). Chrome shows "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset." But, on mobile device witch is connected to the same router facebook works fine (Fb application and Delphin browser). Pinging facebook works fine. Clearing cookies and cache didn't help. Also, I performed antivirus and antimalware scan and there is nothing. What can be a problem?   Possible Duplicate: Power Supply Capacity Formula How can I check if my system needs more PSU power? I'm not sure if it's OK or not to ask a hardware question here. If not please let me know a good place but I've always got good info here so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm custom building a new workstation for coding (Linux/Eclipse). How do I determine how much power the power supply needs? I'm building a mini ITX system on a budget and so I need to get as small as possible that is sufficient. I'll have a mini itx mobo with on board wifi and bluetooth, 8 GB RAM, an Intel i3 3.1 Ghz processor, 64 GB SSD and a slim optical drive. In the future I might add a descrete GPU, 16 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD. What is the minimum power I need and how do I calculate that?

  Background: My fiancée needs a Mac Pro for movie editing and rendering. I need a web server and a backup solution for my MacBook Pro. Idea We thought we could split the costs of the Mac Pro and set it up to act as both a web server and a backup device. Question Is this a good idea? Specifically: Is it easy to set it up to incrementally backup one or several laptops over wifi? And what software would you recommend? Is it silent and stable enough to run a web server continuously? • Location Services are always disabled in Mac OS X Lion

  A simple location services program was working fine on my machine and suddenly stopped working. Upon further exploring the problem, I realized that some process has disabled location services in System Preferences » Security & Privacy » Privacy. I checked Enable Location Services, but again it got disabled automatically. After some research I found that it's not just my program, even built-in system functions are also failing because of this problem for example System Preferences » Date & Time » Time Zone failed to get the current location. • Browsing not working in Windows 8

  I'm using Windows 8 Professional installed on Windows 7 using the "Save my preferences and apps" installation option. The Windows works great, apps are downloading and I can listen to online radio stations using the TuneIn radio app meaning the internet connection is alive, however, when I open a browser (either Chrome or IE10) and try to browse the internet, I'm getting an "Unable to resolve DNS" error message. Prior to installing the internet browsing worked flawlessly I must say. I'm using ESET NOD32 Antivirus so I suspect that it might interfere with the web connection now, but I'm not so sure. Internet options show that the PC is set to resolve the DNS automatically. I don't know what to do. My other Win7 PCs in my wifi home network are connecting to the internet without any issues. If anyone can help me resolve this I'll be grateful :) Thanks

• Router loses connection to internet randomly

  I have a Belkin wireless G plus Mimo router and it randomly loses the connection to the internet. It seems to happen for a second or two, not enough to impact day to day browsing. But enough to disconnect games, or stall videos I am watching. It happens whether I am plugged into the router or connecting via wifi. I am unsure if it is my router or Comcast that is causing this issue. If I connect a computer directly to the modem the problem never occurs, so that tells me it is probably the router. But I also had a Netgear wireless router WGR614, and it had the same problem. I don't know where to start looking for the source of the problem. What logs should I be combing through? All my machines are win 7 of varying versions.

• Connected to internet but can't browse after trying to remove Covenant Eyes

  I recently got a MacBook Pro. It connects to ethernet\wifi and has internet but when I open Safari or Firefox, nothing happens. I get a timeout for all websites. I had Covenant Eyes on my Mac before and tried to remove it. My friends who work with computers have tried everything (ping, nslookup etc). Network diagnostics show no problems I can see I'm connected through ifconfig because I get an IP. I also get a response pinging www.google.gr. There are no proxies set in my Network preferences. Any ideas?

  In Windows 8 Professional, Metro Apps and Windows Update do not work with static IP settings behind authenticated proxy server. They work with DHCP on the same proxy settings (we have DHCP for wifi and static IP for LAN, both using the same proxy server). IE, Chrome and other desktop apps work nicely with both. Metro apps worked with an auth proxy (DHCP only), when I changed their proxy settings from the "edit group policy" option: Start → Settings → Edit Group Policy → Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Network Isolation → Internet Proxy for Apps How can I fix this?

  I am on Windows 7 and using Firefox browser. I am using WiFi, but since the morning I cannot access the Internet via the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, or IE). The laptop shows there is Internet connection, Skype is online, but I can't reach the Internet. Then I launched Tor application which creates secure channel and provides its Firefox browser. Well, I can now access the Internet over that browser. So, what might be the problem causing this malfunction? • Advise on a 240,000 sqft outdoor wireless network

  I would be very appreciative of some advice in the purchase of equipment to provide a wireless network that covers the entire area of an outdoor arena. The area is rectangular-ish in shape. 400ft wide and 600ft long. It has 6 light towers, 1 on each of the 400 foot ends and 2 on each of the 600 foot ends. I can mount on anything and spend as much money as needed. The needs of the network would be to provide access for, up to 15 wireless HD cameras with audio, and a public-wifi network. Can someone point me in the right direction as far as equipment and antennas ? I can provide any additional information that you may need.

• new ubuntu server installation - java server not receiving packets

  I have developed a Java server which listens for UDP packets which come from mobile devices. At the moment, it works correctly if I run my Server on my windows PC. I can receive and respond to the UDP packets sent from my phone (over 3g, not wifi). However, I am trying to run the Server on a different computer which I found lying around my house. I have basically done a clean install of Ubuntu Server edition, updated it, installed the java run time environment and configured port forwarding to allow connections on the appropriate port. I have also tried to disable the firewall. The problem is, it doesn't appear as if the server is receiving any packets and I've exhausted my brain thinking on how to solve/debug the problem. Can anyone suggest to me what the problem might be? or more likely something I can do to help me find out more information about what is going wrong.

• DSL-504T as dumb ADSL modem

  I am trying to setup an existing DSL-504T ADSL router to work as a dumb modem for a DIR-825 wifi router. I am assuming I should try and move as much of the control to the DIR-825 as possible. It's a PPPoA connection so I don't think I can use bridge mode. Does anyone have any guidance on this? Should I have 2 subnets? Should I set the DIR-825 as the DMZ on the DSL-504T? Do I need to keep NAT and firewall enabled on DSL-504T? Basically I have it working but want to know if I have set it up correctly as I really want the QoS to work on the DIR-825.

Are there any life-hack tricks to increase signal/range of my repeater without buying the new more powerful repeater? I've tried already to move my repeater closer to the ceiling or putting the aluminium foil underneath, but it didn't help. • Networking conflict - What is the most common default computer name?

  I recently had to change the name of my computer to log onto a public wi-fi spot, because a computer with my name was already logged on. (I asked a guy there what to do after it said there was already a computer named "Dell(omitted)" logged on.) I've never been at a wifi spot that you had to log into before. I didn't even notice what the computer's name was before. My question is what are the most common default computer names. I'm curious. How often does this sort of problem happen? (I read via Google that Redhat linux default to "localhost" and Toshiba laptops default to "Toshiba.") Somebody probably keeps statistics. (I was referred here from serverfault.com) Thanks

• Wireless bridge between two prolink adsl modem/router

  Allright, so i've got 2 prolink hurricane h5004n. Its a broadband adsl modem and router. My Pc is connected to the first one via ethernet. What i want to do is a wireless bridge to make the 2 routers "talk". I've tried hooking up the dsl cable (as they are modems) in both to try but when one disconnects as the other connects. I don't really know about the configurations to be done of all the DCHP or RIP and NAT forwarding stuffs. (i'm just writing what i saw) In short i want the second router to act as a wifi repeater but i don't see any repeater option and i also do not want to connect them via ethernet. So is it possible to do something? Apart from buying another repeater i don't want to spend anymore i'm done :S

  Description of project- I have a test tool to which DUT connects. The test tool has an access point in it and once DUT get connected to it via mac address we check RSSI and some other features of WiFi of DUT. Now I am wondering is there is any way I can measure throughput of Device under test via mac address of DUT from server side. Test-tool has LINUX fedora 11 in it and major coding is done in c/C++ and json command. Previously, I have tried to install ftp server on test-tool and DUT can connect to it and we can measure the throughput or data transfer rate, but this is not feasible solution as it requires lot of intervention from DUT. What I am interested in is 1) To run some script on server side /test tool and it gives me throughput of bandwidth of connected device may be via mac address of DUT OR 2) Server script transfer some files/packets to DUT and we can measure the throughput. Coding is not a major challenge at this stage , I just need some tool which requires minimum intervention from DUT.

• Significant OS X Finder lag when listing directories/files

  I'm experiencing some significant OS X finder lag, that seems to be purely an issue with Finder itself, and not the HD or any other part of OS X (I'll explain below). The lag only appears to be when listing directories/files, where I'm seeing up to twelve or so seconds of lag (the folder opens with a blank list and the spinner going in the bottom right). This happens with both the local SSD and network drives (connected via ethernet or wifi) Browsing both local and network drives in terminal and listing directories is instant I can actually browse files on my NAS from my phone over a 3G connection from the other side of the country faster than Finder can when connected to the local network (madness!)   It seems that all the wireless laptops in the office have disconnected and are unable to reconnect to the wifi after a terrible storm caused some power interruptions. Troubleshooting actions Verify wireless broadcasting is up With each laptop i ended up flushing their dns cache on Win 7 (ipconfig /flush ) Performed an ipconfig /all to see what the new ip is Made sure password was correct Reset the router (multiple times) restarted each laptop. Tried connecting wirelessly Am i missing some small detail ? Network information The router is a linksys/cisco WRVS4400N router. Supports a lot of fancy features i don't know how to use. • Software to cache a web application for use offline

  My boss quite regularly has to demo our web application to clients in a situation with no wifi available and sketchy 3G access, quite often the 3G lets him down. I have considered setting a copy of our server up in a virtual machine on his laptop so he could demo it offline, but I fear this will just introduce more headaches when he forgets how to boot the VM up. What I'd ideally like is an app that records you logging into a web app, saves copies of all the pages and ties the links and buttons you click up to offline copies of the pages it saves. So you could run through the demonstration you're going to give and have it cache the pages. When you then click the same buttons and links in offline mode it will present the relevant offline pages. Does such a thing exist? Can anyone recommend any alternative solutions to this problem? Thanks, Anthony

• Dell Latitude E6400 power button and wireless not working or only working intermittently

  The power button on the laptop stopped working randomly as of a day or two ago. I can only power the laptop on if its attached to a docking station, on which I can use the power button to turn on/off the laptop. Today the wireless card stopped working (the wifi light does not turn on, even after I turn on the wireless switch). What is the problem and how can I fix it? The laptop is about 1 year old. I have not dropped it, but do carry it around a good amount, including docking it/undocking it frequently.
