    What I'm trying to do is set up a udev rule for my HP headphones (usb) with the aid of several tutorials out there. Created a file ( 90-local.rules ) in /etc/udev/rules.d and added the following: ACTION="add",SUBSYSTEM="usb", ATTR{vendor}=="Hewlett-Packard", RUN+="sh /home/alex/Scripts/usb.sh" The problem is nothing happens when I connect the headphones! What am I doing wrong? note: I did restart udev and the script works also, so it's not that

  • Make Chrome browser prefer DNS over searching

    Is it possible to let the Chrome browser prefer all DNS resolvable URLs over a search? Everytime I use a local name not matching a usual domain scheme, I got search results for it. I first thought that no nonsense DNS lookup is made if the URL seems to be a search keyword, however Chrome always detect this condition and asks me if I like to go to my domain instead. So the DNS lookup is made anyway.

    People who use OpenDNS and go to a non-existing domain are getting a nice fancy search page telling them that the domain doesn't exists instead of the browser error page. here in my home network we have a win 2008-r2 server with the dns role enabled. Is there any way to make my own fancy looking error page to show up at all computers when they enter a domain not found by the local dns server and the Forwarders / root hints servers? -- David,

    Can anyone recommend a linux command line tool to monitor the number of bytes transferred between the local server and a specified IP address/port. The equivalent tcpdump command would be: tcpdump -s 0 -i any -w mycapture.trc port 80 host google.com which outputs : 46 packets captured 131 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel I'd like something similar that outputs: 54 bytes out, 176 bytes in I'd like it to work on RHEL and be free/open-source. It would be good if there was an existing tool which I was just missing too!

What I would like to do is to execute this script for every user every time they login. I found many articles talking about the execution of batch files on startup but I would like to know how to do the same on each login. I've a written a batch file and copied it in : C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\User\Scripts\Logon But it does not seem to be working.

I want to avoid users bypassing Internet access policies by concurently connect to LAN and 3G/Hotspot. We have many developers and they have local administrator rights on workstations. Developers should be able to connect virutual networks (VMware/VirutalPC/Hyper-V/VirutalBox). Other users should be able to use only one network connection concurently.

  • Sharing www folder breaks IIS sites

    I would like to share my www folder on my local machine with others in my office but when I do this and try navigate back to my localhost sites, I get the error HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized. Now I have done a search already and found this http://forums.iis.net/t/1048841.aspx but it's a bit too technical for my skill level and was hoping someone here might be able to give me an easier way to understand this?

  • SSHFS on startup CentOS 6.3

    I edited the file /etc/rc.d/rc.local and added the following lines in order to mount a remote directory through sshfs at boot time: su user -c "/usr/bin/sshfs -o idmap=user -o reconnect -o allow_other -o uid=500 -o gid=500 user@remote:/home/shares/allusers /home/user/mnt" The problem is that is not mounting the directory on startup but when I execute this command manually after logging in everything works as expected an the directory is mounted. Any suggestions?

    I would like to have one of my PCs available to the rest of my home network for file sharing and VNC access, but I want to block any Internet traffic going to and from the PC. In other words, I want all local PCs I have connected to the router functioning as any normal LAN would, but when it comes to the Internet I want one particular PC to be "safe" from the Internet. My guess is that this is some sort of port blocking or some other router function, but I'm not quite sure.

  • netbook intel GMA 3150 external monitor 1920x1080 flicker problem

    Dear all, i recently purchased a acer netbook (apsire one d260). It runs flawlessly. Yesterday I bought a samsung 23" TFT with a native resolution of 1920x1080. According to the information found in the internet and my local computer dealer, the intel chipset can handle the native resolution of the monitor. However, this is only partly the case. I use the VGA cabel to connect, the monitor instantly switches to the native resolution and now the problem: Occasionaly, especially the first 2 hours after booting up, I have a flickering all over the screen, sometimes the entire screen is shaking and spinning around like crazy. I figured out, that lowering the resolution avoids the flicker but this helps only for some time. I can rule out that it's the monitor's problem since I found no issues with another notebook. Right now, I have no problems with the netbook, for about 30 minutes I didn't experience any issues... But I don't know for how long, it occurs without warning :-) I'm worried that if I would bring the netbook back to the dealer and explain my problem, after testing it on an external screen in the local shop, everything works just fine... And I won't get helped with the problem because I can't prove it. (I'm currently in Thailand and over here, customer service is nothing like back home in Germany) What can I do? Is this a driver related issue? (I installed the latest GPU driver) Is it because of the VGA cable? (But why does it work sometimes without any problems and with no issues on the other notebook) I monitored the GPU/CPU temperature, nothing changes really over time..Can it simply be a faulty GPU and is a replacement justifiable? I'm really stressed now because for the time I'm writing, the flickering didn't occur...but for sure, soon or later it will happen again.. I Forgot to mention, the problem also happens if the netbook runs on battery, unplugged. So the only hardware that is plugged is the TFT screen. ...........and here it comes again, flickering has just begun. NEED HELP!     I ssh to a ubuntu sever, start a web project(Rails), then I can visit this project. I close the the ssh terminal, then the project says can not find files(view pages,css files and so on). I put the project in the home folder(/home/byht). why? When closing the ssh terminal, the user's folder can not be visited ? You know, when I put the project in another folder(/usr/local), everything goes well.

  • How do I restore a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop to facotry defaults

    I got a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop from the local computer store, it is obviously a used machine. When I got it the data from the previous user was on it they did not do a wipe. Anyhow Dell was not being any help to me on wiping the data. Does anyone know how I get the machine to restore Windows to the factory settings. Also I do not have the system disc that come with the computer, I just have the computer and the power cord.

  • How do I install Skype on computer so that anyone who logs in does NOT have to go through the initial config?

    I installed Skype when logged on to the (local) admin account. Now, when I log off that, and log on as myname on the domain, I have to click through the intial setup steps (after you've already run the installer) of Skype. So, I have to click next to get through the mic setup/test, and it asks me if I want to take a pic. How do I get it so that any person who logs in can just open Skype and go straight to the login screen? Windows 7 64 bit, 2008R2

  • How do I preserve ownership permissions when copying to an external volume?

    When I upgrade or reinstall linux I backup my home folder by running sudo cp -pr /home/users/yitzchak /media/externalHDD/backups. When I do this I get errors saying that permissions could not be preserved and when I copy the folder back onto my local disk I see that ownership has been changed to root and I have to chown all of them back, which has to be done manually piecemeal because not all files have the same group. Is there any way around that?

    I am copying a 4.7 GB dvd contents into my local drive but the total size of DVD is being shown as 415 GB!. How is that possible? Because of which it is showing less space (as my drive is of 150 GB) and thus cannot be copied? I am surprised that how a 4.7 GB dvd contains 415 GB data?
